when you say you took him to court - do you mean the rent committee? How long have you been in the property? He can't evict you if you hve a signed tenancy contract. He can only give you notice for the end of your contract. I think a return trip to the rent committee sounds like a good plan. perhaps they will call him and point this out to him if yuo hve already won a case against him.

Thank you ladies. THey are on their honeymoon so for the 'wow I am in Dubai' factor, think may go with Al Qasr - it will be their wedding gift from us! x Ooooh I think I'd do Burj Al Arab brunch then - only a tiny bit more money but you're guaranteed the wow I'm in Dubai factor! they have a promo at the mo if go to brunch by 11 am you get free voucher to wild wadi valid for 6 months!

We used Global pack and were really really happy with them. Not one thing broken. The team really seemed to know what they were doing. I have friends who have used them many times and have always been very happy with them. Got them recommended on here ages ago and was very happy to use them.

Why shouldn't our one family holiday this year be about us and the kids? edited by meals on 06/06/2011 It should be about you and the kids too......so......deep breath but you need to let them all know that before plans are cast in stone. Book yourself a week in the middle of your holiday somewhere nice and let everyone know that that is your family holiday time and you will see everyone else before or after. I'd do one family group before (the one that winds you up so much so you can chill out after) and then the other family group after...... Don't let them boss you around. That way everyone wins - you get your break too. Deep breath and make that call.

You should be able to take it to any of the immigration offices and get them to cancel the visa. He will then have 30 days after cancellation to leave the country.

So my question for class reps is: Does the teacher know who joined in on the collective gift? I can only say how I do it....... if a mum has put into the class collection she gets the card to sign. If they don't put in they don't sign the card - isn't that how it works? that's how I do it. so the teacher knows who to thank for what....... remember I give all the mums the opportunity to do their own thing in which case why would they sign the card that goes with the group gift.

I'm a class rep and I always send a note out asking if people would like to join together to give a gift. I say it's not compulsory - it's entirely up to the individual as to whether they would like to contribute. I make a suggestion of how much (not OTT) and, from the past 5 years of doing this with different classes/mums and schools - I have had on average 2 mums who reply saying they are going to do their own thing - the rest reply pretty quickly saying yes they want to join in and.......on collecting many put in more than the suggested amount. I have been able to buy the teachers and TAs some fantastic gifts ranging from a manicure/pedicure voucher to a new digital camera. There's no competition - I have no idea what other classes do - I just know what I could get for the teacher for the amount I put in to a class collection and I would have to spend far, far more for a reasonable gift so for me, with 2 kids - I would far rather put into a class collection. This has just reminded me to get the cards so I can get the mums who are putting into the collection to sign the card!

Has anyone heard of any good deals on hotels for June? I'm looking for a weekend break either in Dubai or within an hour or so drive. Summer deals have had to have started, right? TIA. yes the summer deals are now on - just check the websites of the hotels you fancy or sometimes phoning them and asking for their GCC summer deal gets you a better deal.

umm - they lost an item of yours and then managed to find it... Not sure well done is that apt.... They shouldn't have lost it or misrecorded in teh first place!!! Yeah I thought exactly that too. well done champion - try not to lose stuff in the first place and then loads more people would be really really happy!!! To the OP - I know what you mean though - it's very unusual here to get good after care.

Not 100% sure of exactly what you are looking for but they do have loads of different table decorations in Falcon Gallery in Al Quoz. Would be worth having a wander around there - it's a treasure trove.

The same happened with me and although I was at least 6 weeks there was no visible heartbeat - I was booked in for another scan 10 days later and there it was for all to see and hear!

I can answer the question about toyota servicing. I have had a Toyota car here for 5 years and have only ever had superb service. You can go in for a service and it's usually done and ready to drive off in an hour (unless the car needs more work but they call you as soon as they know and you can then decide to either stay or come back). Can't help you with any other answers but I would highly recommend having a toyota over here.

I know people who have no kids and have a full time live in housemaid. It's up to you what her duties are. If you need someone to keep your house clean and tidy and do your laundry but also have a meal ready for you then that's what you should put into her job description. Better to be planned and have a good idea of exactly what she is required to do before you start interviewing - you may well interview and then find that the girl can't cook.

I think the Nail Spa is one of the better salons. All the equipment is in sealed steralised packs - so you should have noticed that they had a new pack of kit for you. I have been to other salons and one in particular I ended up with an infected finger - I never went back . I have used the Nail Spa for quite a few years and have never had a problem.

I think your clause is pretty clear - it states 2 months if vacating BEFORE the end of the contract - he's trying it on but he may well have not really realised that this is what you meant when putting the clause in...... so he's clutching at straws. The rent committee is alive and kicking - my friends won their case there the other week so best thing is to pop in and have a chat with someone there taking your contract with you. remember though that it costs to file a case. Why don't you see if you can get someone yourself to take over your lease - advertise it on here and Dubizzle with some nice pictures and you may well be able to provide him with new tenants yourself which will get you out when you want to get out.

Difficult question to answer really as I think it depends on how serious your illness is. I have known a number of friends who have had to return to their home countries for specialist treatment as it was not available here.

I've been clearing out all our gadgets - like a fax machine - the fax didn't work but the printer bit did, a hoover that sort of worked but not well etc etc - if you put them by the side of your bin you would be amazed at how quickly they are picked over and taken. My feeling is that my DH does not have the time or the know-how to fix these things but if there's someone out there who can put them right and either use them or sell them on for gain for themselves - power to them. You may well find that just because the chargers are old - they can be used by someone over here with an older model phone..... it's recycling at its best!

our LL hasn't said anything, but I seem to recall it was in the tennancy contract ... would have to check on that though. When we lived in Ranches the LL was responsible for all the community charges. Am interested to confirm about the commnity charges on The Villa ... now you've got me worried! I think - like maintenance - that community charges should be the responsibility of the LL. I'm sure RERA will tell you that - if it's in your contract and you've signed it I suppose there's not much you can do. My understanding though is that the LL pays those charges - I know that they try it on but I'm pretty sure it would stand up at the rent committee that they must pay it - not you....

Thanks for the suggestions :) Will look into building a bigger room as well and seeing if the space can be used with the bed above, except I don't think the room is actually long enough to fit one of those either :S Just interested - are you referring to the maids rooms at The Villa? - I was shocked at the size of them - huge huge villas and apalling maid space...... Hope you find a solution and a very very small bed!

Claire, the lady who owns it has moved up with us somewhere, did meet her at a coffee morning I held can't remember her name but Quizzme probably will. If I bump into her I will ask if there has been a change in chef... but sounds like all back to normal from the below posts, maybe just a temporary blip. Let's hope so - if you see her piont her at this thread - I'm sure she'd want to know and perhaps she can come on and reassure her regulars that all will be back to normal! thanks!

So sorry to hear the diagnosis. I was reading a fascinating article the other day written by a professor, Dr Jane Plant who had breast cancer and she was determined to fight it. I think the book is called your life in your hands. I know it's specific to breast cancer but it was very interesting. The rates of cancer in china are a fraction of the rates in the Western world......she believes this is linked to the fact that the Chinese do not eat dairy. She cut out all dairy and her tumours started to shrink pretty dramatically...... If I was in your friends situation and was determined to fight I would most definitley read this as I found it very interesting and thought provoking.

Thank you for that, very helpful. One is 3 and the other is 15 months. So far, the younger has it the worst, it is quite bad really. I will duck out to the chemist now. ;) Oh good luck! the 15 month can definitely take fenistil - I'm pretty sure it's from 1 year old but check with the chesmist or the box. Its fast acting and relieves the itchyness so quickly. xx

Le Meridien al Aqah usually do great summer deals. superb breakfasts and take your entertainer book as there are vouchers for the restaurants in there too. my fav is the thai there and I love sitting on the end of the beach inthe Gonu bar - fab relaxing place and great service with swim up bar.

Hi! You can buy it as a gel ( it's amazing for insect bites) or a syrup. For chickenpox use the syrup following the doses on the box. I now take fenestil with me when I travel home and the friends who have used it here on holiday all take some back with them it's great for itching and allergic reactions. It's a fast acting antihistamine and as a mum who has a child who is allergic to stuff it's absolutely amazing. Follow the doses. You don't say how old your children are but if they are really young I think they do a paediatric drop version. I now have it in the house here and the Uk all the time in gel form and syrup. A tip I got from my mum is keep calamine in the fridge so when you plaster it on when the spots come it's really soothing. So get you bottle of calamine lotion too. Both mine had chickenpox after giving the fenestil I would dab all over with cotton wool balls soaked in the cool calamine and it was fine. We had no scarring lucky. I also let them run around the house just in their pants so no waistbands rubbed on the spots. Good luck hope my advice helps you get through it without too many problems . Xx

If it's a special celebration I'd check out some of the hotels - the One and Only Royal Mirage is lovely for afternoon tea - I'm sure they would serve a celebratory breakfast - how about the Ritz Carlton or The Westin. I would also try the new Jumeirah hotel on the Plam as that looks stunning and it would be lovely to go somewhere new for a celebration brekkie! oooooo just thought of another one - Bab Al Shams Oooooh and another - there's a gorgeous deli-style restaurant at Desert Palm Hotel - they do delicious breakfasts. <em>edited by Clairehdp on 26/05/2011</em>

can you get family members to share photos with you from over the years - even from their wedding pictures and get them scanned in - then produce one of the really nice coffee table books with photos from everyone capturing so many special times over their 60 years together - wow what an amazing achievement. I did one for my DH's granny for her 90th birthday - I did it from here on my Mac and it was delievered to our address in the UK - she loves looking at it when she's having a quiet sit down and cup of tea according to family members. <em>edited by Clairehdp on 26/05/2011</em>

we had the same issue with a printer/fax - we put it out next to our bin and within a nano second it had been recycled!!!!!!! Someone - somewhere will be mending it and making use of it - so I'm happy. Same with the hoover that wasn't working too well and other stuff that sort of works but needs attention - there's always someone here that will take it and put it right and benefit from it.
