anyway HRC should open soon, cannot wait either! Yeah they said that when they closed the last one a few years ago now and then they said that in October last year when the billboards were up announcing opening soon!!!!!!....... hey ho - it took over 2 years for the Pan Emirates furniture shop to open after the coming soon posters went up!!!!!

I had a really nice pedicure last week in Nstyle in Mcc. I had one of the worst ones ever in NStyle at MOE but promised the girls in MCC that I would give them a chance to get me back and it was very nice!

It's so sad......they should have stayed open on the original site. we just loved it there and the staff were fabulous. It's madness that a city like Dubai does not have a Hard Rock Cafe - come on - my kids have grown out of all their t shirts we need some more!!!!! Isn't there one at wafi? Thats Planet Hollywood. Yeah and not a patch on the Hard Rock. we got our Hard Rock fix in London but the Dubai one was special.....

Hi This is my first post, so I hope someone can help please.... I am moving to Dubai in July with my husband and 2 children. At the moment in the UK I run a business selling personalised Invitations, for Birthday parties, Religious events and Weddings, I would like to continue this over in Dubai. Do you think this would be of interest in Dubai and also can anyone reccomend a good printing company, we are looking at living in Jumeirah. My friend relocated back to the UK last summer with allied pickfords and has only recently finalised the claim for the damage to her goods......she was serioulsy unhappy with them.

Just an update in case any of are also thinking of renting bar tables. I found a great place in Al Barsha (behind Marina Home furnishings) called WORLD TENT TRADING. Incredible! You can get anything here...tables, tents, chairs, fans, AC...anything you could possibly need. I hired the bar tables for 50dhs each! Bargain. Ikea definitely have them we got them from there. They also have loads in Dragonmart in the furniture section there are quite a few office furniture shops.

Ooooooh......you're lucky if you've not had them before..... they are small reddish and they blister and then pop and scab over. The Fenestil helps stop them itching and the calamine helps to dry them out. Poor little E. Let's see what tomorrow brings! Hope you don't have an awful night..... xx

Thanks Cliare I knew you would know the best ones! Your envelope will be on its way tomorrow morning! I am doubting the address though, its very short! The name is only initials. What about yalumba? Traiteur? DD is fine now. Back to school tomorrow! thanks soooo much! The address is correct - it's a strange one! Traiteur is supposed to be beautiful - I've never been but know many who have and they rave about it. Yalumba is more of a boozy younger crowd and not that child friendly in my opinion.

Oh... and if I do have another, I really want another little girl, I would be devastated if it was either a boy or twins (which run in DH's family!)... I want my DD to have a sister as I did and who I love very much but on the other hand they won't necessarily have the great relationship we have... Ho hum, what to do...? I have sisters who I love dearly but always wondered what it would be like to have had a brother. I now have 2 kids of my own - a boy when I was 41 and a girl when I was 43 - both conceived naturally - just very late! I now watch them together and their bond together is really special. I would have been happy with 2 boys or 2 girls but I feel truly blessed to have one of each and my little boy is the most amazing big brother to my little girl - she's lucky to have him and he's equally lucky to have her. If you want to have another baby don't put it off and if it's a little boy please don't be devastated they're great and I wish now I could have had a brother like my little girl has.

If they want steakhouse - Prime at the Meydan hotel is (IMO) the best steak restaurant in Dubai - superb! Grand Grill at the Habtoor Grand is a great place.

Need to know the labour law re hiring new maids. We are letting current maid go in 2 weeks at end of her contract and hiring a new one. Does the new maid's previous employer have to give her a flight home or paid holiday or do we take on the cost when she starts with us next week? Obviously she wants to take her summer holiday - but who covers the cost us or previous employer? She is finishing with them a month early as they are leaving. HELP .... Be careful - they have changed the rules in the Philippines just recently and it's really difficult for the girls to get back in unless they have all their right papers. If she is taking her holiday after her family leave will she already be on your sponsorship - if so - fine as long as you get the exit pass from the POLO office here. If she is taking holiday when her family leave and is intending to return to work for you - it could all go horribly wrong.....

I have 4 children and LOVE having 4. I have no home help and I don't think that this is really that inspiring since at "home" I wouldn't have help so why would I have here? My DH and I continue to do as we did at "home", everything by ourselves with our 4 beautiful children. I wouldn't have it any other way. Hats off to you Juzzrach - what a lovely post.

I too am in awe of people with 3,4 and 5 children - I just can't imagine how they do everything. 2 is enough for me - I can just about split myself into 2 at homework time! My husband always said only have the number of children you have hands to grab collars - as I have 2 hands - that's 2 kids for me!

if you can leave most of your hand luggage at the airport I would hop on the underground and head to the Natural History Museum and the Science museum in Kensington. Both are very child friendly and have cafe's etc. The kids would love it. Ooooh yes - that's a great idea. they also usually put in an iceskaing rink by the natural history museum around xmas time so you mght be able to go ice skating too!

Take them to Hamleys and then walk along Oxford Street all wrapped up against the cold to see all the amazing Christmas windows. End up at Harrods to see their windows and lights. Have a meal at the Hard Rock Cafe - stock up on some great t shirts and go back to Heathrow for your flight.

You can get nice silver chains at Cara's and choose a silver charm to put on it - I've seen silver palm trees and silver camels - that would work and won't be expensive but will be soooo lovely and get them to put it in one of their black presentation boxes and it will look a million dollars! What a lovely present idea.

I thought that most of the summer camps start at age 4. One you might like to check out - not sure if they run through the whole of the summer though is The Children's Garden in the Green Community - they run a lovely summer school both mine went there when they were younger and it was fantastic. english/french and english/german. Dubaikidz website usually lists lots of the summer camp info.

We're booked in for the 16th, only phoned late last week but managed to get booking though is just for 2 of us so maybe that helped! Am looking forward to it and DH is just hoping the shepherds pie is on the menu and as good as London ;) According to their website the shepherds pie IS on the menu! that's what I had when I was last in London - delicious! enjoy SL13!

Our friends did similar for us - when we walked in we had all table confetti scattered up our hall - the glitter one with hearts and congratulations in it - it was soooo lovely. they also put a cute bridge and groom teddy set on our bed - and champagne in the fridge - such a lovely touch we were very suprised and loved it.

Thanks for the information, folks. Just thinking, as I never went there when I lived in London, would I want to go to the one in Dubai? Why not! My Dad always said that variety was the spice of life..... try it simpleasabc - it's fabulous. Always enjoy good food, hence my 35kilo overweight problem.. Should I wait till before or after I've gone down from obese to mere "overweight", do you think? ;) I'd just go for it! Nothing like an amazing meal to make you feel fantastic!

When I took my kids to our dentist in the UK I mentioned to her that I hear so much about filling of baby teeth and even root canal work on baby teeth - she was horrified. I now just take my kids for their check ups when we are in the UK on our holidays. My little girl is 6 and I would not put her through root canal treatment on her baby teeth - they are falling out by the day anyway!

I completely agree with Quizzme - it was absolutely stunning. Couldn't fault anything. Stunning food, superb service - the staff are all beautifully turned out - worked very well as a new team and I can't wait to go back. the frozen berries with the hot white chocolate sauce were as good - if not better - than the ones we had in The Ivy in London last month! Dubai has been waiting a long time for such a restaurant. I wish them all much success - based on last night I think this restaurant will be here for a very very long time!

I'd get a tailor in Satwa to knock one up for me - I have no sewing skills like janesul who whipped up the most amazing roman outfit for her little girl - some of us have it - some don't! I think I've seen a mermaid outfit at Mr Bens that you can buy too.

How absolutley awful for everyone. Sending you a big big hug - it's really hard to lose a friend but knowing you I'm sure you will be there for her family and be able to share lovely stories with her children as they grow up so they know more about their mummy from her friends. A great friend of our family passed away a few years ago around the same age - she came to Dubai for a final holiday and it was so hard knowing when I said goodbye to her that it would be the last time I ever saw her. She was so upbeat and at her funeral there were pictures of her in a boat out at sea in Dubai - sitting on the back of a camel in the desert - sipping champagne at her Burj Al Arab afternoon tea - it was something she wanted to do to spend her last holiday surrounded by her family and friends and I was honoured to have been able to organise it for her with the help of many lovely ladies on here. My sister now spends lots of time with her daughter who wants to know so much about her Mum and my sister can fill in the gaps as they were friends for so many years. Having been through this I would say that you need to allow yourself to greive for the loss of your lovely friend and then think of the nice ways you can help the family live their lives without her there but with so many lovely memories. A tough few weeks ahead for everyone but I hope that with time you will all be able to remember her with a smile on your face and know that she chose you as her friend and she will know that you will be there for her children when they need love/help/support/memories. xxxxx

I'd wait unless you are putting in auto irrigation and you have someone who will make sure that it's well looked after - you've got much more chance of everything doing better in October once the heat calms down.

Just got back from Tony Romas at Ibn Batuta. Yes, their BBQ ribs were yummylicious but .......perhaps not today :( Surprisingly the food we ordered weren't that great anymore. We are their regular customer at both outlets (Shk Zayed Road & Ibn Batuta Mall) and usually we will order almost the same food each time. We had Onion loaf for appetiser, Full slab BBQ spare ribs(turn out to be very salty), Shrimp scampi pasta(taste different), Alfredo Chicken pasta(very dry), Kids meal etc. The service was very slow, ineffecient considering there were less than 10 tables occupied. There were six of us, 2 adults. We were only given two side plates & cutleries, nothing for the kids. They only got their colouring paper & crayons. There were no nachos on the table (used to have bread rolls before), asked for it....but never received. The food arrived but yet no cutleries for the kids. We had to asked 2-3 times as they only bring a set each time. DH was not happy with the service, so he asked for the manager. After waited for about 10 mins, finally a lady came to our table and introduced herself as the Restaurant Supervisor. Cut the story short.... Just before we leave.....I ask for some wet tissues. But guess what.....we got 2 small bowls of water with a slice of lemon as they have no more tissues. Sorry all......just need to vent out as it was actually DH's birthday today & never thought their service were that bad. Just hoping they'll improve !! Sounds like things have not improved - we have been a couple of times and this is exactly our experience at tony romas.....no cutlery and you have to ask time and time again for stuff that should be on the table....after a couple of times we just accepted that tony romas at Ibn Battuta is not the place for us......

I've heard from several sources that Takemyjunk is very much his own charity. I've heard what he doesn't want he sells and keeps the money. Be careful. I've met Faisal a number of times and he works very very hard for the labor camps in Ajman. It's a thankless task loading up a lorry with people's junk especially in the summer months. I found him to be very polite and a thoroughly nice guy. His son came with him when he last came to our villa and between them they worked really hard to get our stuff onto the trailer. Some items he will sell if he can get good money for them and he converts this money to food supplies for the workers in Ajman. there are running costs of his vehicle which have to be covered. I think it's sad that someone who works so hard and gives so much gets a bashing on here. For those who have not used takemyjunk before - make your own minds up. I will be using him again soon as it's great to get the stuff picked up in one hit - I don't care if what he sells it for goes to service his van so he can continue doing this work or paying for a big bag of rice - all I know is that someone somewhere less fortunate than me is benefitting. Take a look at his website as there are volunteer opportunities to help him - they are looking for men to go into the camps on a Friday to help teach English and give these guys a chance to better themselves for the workplace.
