I fed my DS baby porridge and the cereals from Hipp (starting from 4 months) from the age of 4 1/2 months because he screamed his head of every time I took a spoon to my mouth. He was like a little birdy and just wanted to eat. We initially introduced it in the evening around 5pm and he was absolutely fine. No digestive problems or anything. However my little girl is now close to 6 months and she is still on solely milk as she has shown no interest what so ever in anything else. I'm sure both my children will be just fine whether they start solids earlier or maybe even at 7 months. You will know what's best and most probably your child will have a way to show you too.

The other thing that never seems to get taken into consideration is the Pension scheme. One only ever looks at the here and now with the salary provided but I feel a private pension is of great importance too.

I second Dr Nicholl. We haven't had to use him for anything other than routine checkups but he has a lovely manner and he's very knowledgeable, quite academic in his approach which I like. He was recommended to me by a friend and when I saw his photo on his website it was a done deal! Oh and the nurses and receptionists at the clinic are lovely and professional. I agree, Dr. Nicholl is a great Doctor, but we changed as I couldn't deal with the "importance" of the admin staff. I'm not one for running to the doctors daily but I would like to see one, when I feel it's absolutely necessary, if I then have to argue with the staff about an emergency appointment I really don't have the time for. I am now with Dr. Kempf, a german doctor, who is very accessible and down to earth.

Many Congratulations! It's great to be a mum but very tough to let go and join the work force again. I did the same, twice now, and like you said the main priority during my absence was/is my little baby. However I did not want for my baby to be carried around all day. We bought a cradle and a playpen and they get moved around the house while the cleaning is being done. Of course there are days when the little one needs more cuddles but a lot of the time they want to just feel that there is someone around and our maid is brilliant at that. E.g. she does the mopping an keeps coming back to the playpen and talks to our little girl and then carries on. A list of chores is a good idea, it doesn't have to be followed strictly but the things listed need to be done within the day, week, month or so. Depending how long you will have your maid it will definitely help in the long run. At least they know and once your baby is going to nursery/school and you are still with the same help they know that this will be expected of them and that there won't be the excuse "but I didn't have to do this all before" edited by Cleopatra on 01/04/2014

This can't be good for Atlantis...another event not successful. This has NOT been cancelled due to not being popular, he was rushed to hospital to have his gall bladder and appendicitis removed. He also had to cancel his performance at the Bahrain GP. I wish him a speedy recovery too. edited by pollydxb1 on 31/03/2014 I wasn't referring to his health and of course I wish him a successful recovery. I just meant that having to return tickets and people getting their money back as this seems to have been an issue previously and most probably will be again.

I'm trying to organise a little party for about 15 people and wondered which options I have in regards to catering. Ideally I would like it to be a casual event with a BBQ or a Spit roast (a little suckling *** would be lovely, but guess am in the wrong place for this ;)) If I had the talent to BBQ, I would even do it myself, but guess the guests wouldn't get anything to eat. Any suggestions very welcome. Have you called Fibber McGees they do outside catering Oh, didn't know, will call them immediately. Thanks a lot ;)

Not sporty. He has no idea what he wants to do. He will finish school in May. He is a good communicator and not shy. Like I said earlier he would still require a visa. Would it be best to ring up some hotel chains and see if they can assist. Thanks for responses so far Have a look on this website, (http://www.catererglobal.com) it will give you an idea on which hotels are currently recruiting. I know from experience that one has to be quite on the ball and once the CV is with them, call on a regular basis in order to get your foot through the door. But for a sales role, one requires this termination trait anyways. A Guest relations agent position might also be a start. Good luck with your search. edited by Cleopatra on 31/03/2014

It depends which field he is in, but for example in hospitality young people do have a chance. The salaries aren't that good to start with, but it generally comes with quite a few perks. How about a sales executive position in a hotel?

There is also a Children's Garden in Al Barsha. As I'm not sure where you are living there is a Raffles and a Jebel Ali nursery in the Lakes which is not too far from TECOM either.

i used cmc to make me a fitted wardrobe and shelf out my laundry room - http://www.cmcenterdubai.com/contact.htm They're a bit cr&p on getting back to you but the work was good and reasonably priced. So tried them and after waiting for one week was told that they are no longer dealing with individual consignments... back to the search - any more carpenter recommendations?

louisemoulsdale - My DS was diagnosed with a Phimoses when he was the same age. We then got recommended Dr. Patricolo who is now in AUH and were extremely pleased. He is not pro or anti circumcision and will do what's best for the child. We have been given some cream which rectified the problem and didn't have to go the full nine yards which I'm very happy about. However, when it comes to circumcision, the services are probably much better in this part of the world due to the day to day nature of it than anywhere else.

Our absolute favorite was/is Ugly Duckling who did beautiful shots of our kids. But then, we have not used anyone else to compare. I have seen loads of recommendations previously on here. Do a search... I contacted Ugly Duckling and unfortunately they are relocating to the States and won't take any more bookings. :(

Looking at the places you want to see I would fly into Venice and hire a car. Stay in Venice for 2 nights and then travel on to Tuscany. In Tuscany are some very nice Vineyards with accommodation and from there one can do day trips to Pisa, Florence, Sienna etc.

Mamas & Papas in Mercato can sometimes have a good collection. Also Babyshop in MOE has just started to display some maternity clothes. Not sure what they are like but might be worth checking them out too. The choice in this country isn't too great and a lot of the stuff makes you look a bit frumpy. With my last pregnancy I bought larger sizes of the normal clothing which made me feel a lot more attractive.

We have been going there since it opened the first time but sadly no more. 48 Dhs for a 1/2 litre (less than a pint) of standard brew. All the food including fish and chips and burgers is now well over 100Dhs. I ordered steak pie and it was no longer pub food type steak pie, and was half the size it used to be. There was nothing wrong with it before so why didn't they just leave it alone! We will miss going there but I refuse to be ripped off. Exactly the way we felt...for a new venue ok, but for us oldies just a bit too much of a change :(

Are there an shops in Dubai that sell that type of furniture other than Ikea? I'm just not a huge fan of plywood. Pan Emirates Home Centre Home Centre always has a sale on and if you go onto the Mall of Emirates FB page there is an offer for Home Centre and 20% off Really? I've never seen solid pine furniture there? I shall have another look.

Has anyone been to the Dhow and Anchor at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel lately? We went there recently and where shocked. While it is looking nice it had nothing to do with the old place and the prices are just a rip off compared to what it was. I think it would have been better for the hotel to rebrand the outlet rather than call it a refurbishment.

There are lots of part-time jobs. Just in the last month, I could have had 4, alone. BUT, the competition is tough. You will have highly qualified people taking low qualified jobs just to get out of the house, so be prepared for that. Go to company websites and see what they have. Wages won't be great, but it is pocket money and a chance to get out, and fill your CV with something. Google part time jobs Dubai, and something will come up. Some kids get more pocket money than what's offered at most of those places ;) Sorry am a bit disgruntled, have been trying to give up my full-time job for quite some time to be with the family, but the part-time jobs salary hardly covers the maid's salary.

Many Congratulations! It is exciting being pregnant and having the first child but at the same time it is also stressful when one salary isn't enough to support the family. We are in the same boat and trying to find the right solution for baby, family and work can be quite difficult. The visa cost for a maid works out about Dhs 5,000 per year plus a Dhs. 2,000 deposit. In regards to the minimum wages, they are quite low and if you are looking for someone to look after your newborn baby you will probably have to spend a minimum of Dhs. 2,000 to 2,500 per months. I would not feel comfortable just paying the minimum wage and at the same time entrust the most precious gift given to me. Looking for a maid can be difficult but EW is of great help. It can take quite a long time to find the right person. For us it was always important that the person was already in country and could come with references to proof that she looked after babies before. Having just found new help I know that a lot of the applicants can do "everything" but when put to the test are unable to even hold a baby. Good luck with everything. edited by Cleopatra on 02/03/2014

I did mine through the Emirates Driving Institute and it was quite good. As a beginner you need to do 30 classes and most probably you will need some more as I think 4 of those are for Theory classes (I refused to take them as I have a car, but they were insisting to come for at least one hour to do a one on one...very accommodating) In order to not to have too many classes just make sure that you get your tests booked in well in advance as there can be some waiting periods. I will try and attach a document which outlines the procedure but not sure if it will work. Good luck http://www.edi-uae.com/uploads/docs/edi_doc_36.pdf

How hard did u have to push for it? At any point did u feel like the midwives were pressurizing you in doing a c section? Or was it as simple as i want a natural and they said fine? Just spoke to my Doctor and she fully supported my decission. The midwifes did try at the beginning though, but gave up quickly...my DH made sure of it. Btw the doctor was Dr. Rosalie Sant.

It's not racism, it's called having a healthy nationality mix. DIA wants to have a big variety of nationalities therefore has a cap on them.
