I had my eyes lasered about 1 1/2 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I initially went to Atlanta had the consultation and everything but chickened out last minute. I then went to Moorfields and found the competences of the doctors amazing and decided to have it done there. They were extremely informative, professional, the after care was great and am very very pleased with the result. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks sarahlou, I tried that and the sound had disappeared and one of the devices showed only in black and white...I guess I'm not designed to set up TVs. ;)

This is one major difference in culture and many a times I stood there gobsmacked with the comments my colleagues made like "what's the matter with you, why do you have this big pimple?" or " "you are looking fat" followed a week later by "I don't think you are eating enough" and the list goes on and on and on.... sometime I just wish people would adapt the "How are you" way rather than say those kind of things. I am tough skinned but it sometimes annoys even me when having a bad day so I can only imagine what it might do to someone who is much more sensitive than me.

Don't be fooled - yes there is a lot of money here, but similarly, people live way beyond their means and have taken out many loans to pay for their lavish lifestyles. and I guess with this way of dealing with matters the house prices get pushed up even higher...what a mad circle.

If you are planning to bring your child up bi-lingual in the languages you speak then one of you should talk to your LO in German only and the other one in English only. It doesn't matter that you speak to your DH in English you just need to be strict in speaking your dedicated language with your child. I know it is hard, even harder when you are with other mums who don't really understand but at the end of your day, it is what you want for your child that's why it is important to stick with it. We are using the same method at home and so far it is working fine. In regards to Kindergarden/School, that is a tricky one and I guess only you can take the decision. The German school seems quite German and English is not taught by a native English speaker which was an issue for us. There are also other options to incorporate German. TCG in the Green Community is a bi-lingual Kindergarden. And the Greenfield Community School offers German as part of the Curriculum. The likes of DIA & Raffles also offer German but this comes as an additional cost and is organized by a parent initiative. Good luck with whatever you decide.

We get them at the border. But it is only a small form: name, birthdate, place of birth, passport nr, visa nr, place of entry. Thanks for the info...my DS is not very patient when it comes to waiting around that's why I'm trying to get as organized as possible ;)

I am not sure how much you want to speed up the border process? My husband crosses the border every week....takes about 5 min at the Omani site. I am crossing several times a year and also never stood more then 5 min. We both would leave around 8 in the morning. The form take 1 min to fill in, ok we do this at home as we have a pile of them:-). It sometimes takes me more time at the 2 checkpoints then the whole border process. Are the forms only available at the border or can one get these online?

Am encouraged by the positive comments on ''wearing'' ''grey highlights rather than colouring. I used to highlight my light brown hair but have to say these days my hair is totally highlighted grey/white to a streaky ash blonde colour which I always wanted anyway and it provides a soft frame to my less than wrinkle free face. Why not give your grey lights a chance to show - you might like the result?? I'm not quite that grey yet, hence I prefer to cover it up...I'm not willing to have the same hair color for the next 50 years yet ;)

Ah, ok. Don't where you are but I noticed a pet grooming place in Motor City the other night. The Shampooch van is always in the Ranches too. Not sure what nationality the staff are though. Ummm... perhaps it was a one off but my pooch got cut and came home highly traumatised after a visit to one of the groomers in MC. Prob not allowed to mention the name - there are two groomers there I think... so... Anyway I go to Woof in Al Quoz or Alice at Positive Paws, Umm Suqeem. No complaints at either of those. I personally wouldn't touch MC with a bargepole. Or any of the other groomers located within pet supplies shops. Those where the two groomers I had in mind, but Woof is currently one groomer short and have nothing available and Alice has left Positive Paws :(

Can you get some doggy shampoo and brush and do it yourself? Might be better than getting a stranger if she doesn't take too well to others. I tried that but she is too matted...a professional is definitely needed.

For framing I can recommend the shop within the old Park & Shop complex down Al Wasl Road. We'd tried many others before, but this one proofed to be the best one for our needs.

If you don't like the job, I would consider it ;) The commute sounds not bad at all as you are always going against traffic. I guess 20 to 30 minute commute within Dubai is a very reasonable time.

Stuart Marshall at Liquid Mortgages is excellent and should be able to help you. With regards to tax, you do have to pay tax on your rental income however you have a tax free allowance which is around 8,000 ie you can earn 8000 pounds profit from rental before having to pay tax. So basically if the rental income get's used for the mortgage payment and there is no other income there is no profit as such and there won't be any tax...did I understand that correctly. Thanks for the contact, I shall try them later on today.

pollydxb1 - i live in the marina so its not going to be possible to go boxing with you, such a shame ! does anyone go boxing in the marina area? i do allot of boxing with my PT and really enjoy it ! i downloaded the circuit factory diet plan yesterday but even that seems so extreme and boring ! how ever i will try it for a couple of weeks, does anyone go to the circuit factory classes, i would like to try them but i dont really want to go alone. Todays lunch - small brown bread tuna sandwich, no mayo a small scraping of low fat cream cheese with extra salad ! yummy !!! The circuit factory is amazing. They offer these challenges and I followed it twice for 2 weeks each and at the end of it I had lost a good stone, but even better was the way your body had shaped. It was very tough the first week, but then at least the pain disappeared. I managed to keep the weight off, and just kind off followed the diet, like the snack and breakfast part and much less sauces and carbohydrates in the evening. When I went there the first time I felt like you a bit apprehensive and didn't really want to go, but this is the only exercise class I've ever been to, where shape, age, fitness level doesn't matter and everyone is just in the same boat. Good luck to you ! edited by Cleopatra on 07/01/2013 edited by Cleopatra on 07/01/2013

I keep hearing of people who have "jet-setter" bosses with PA's working from home. I would love to do something like that, but any idea where one would look for a job like that? I am not an authority on this, but in my personal experience here with the economy the way it is now the opportunity to have a flexible from home job seems to be disappearing. Dh has always had a PA but in recent years their work load has increased as the pay has lowered and the options for flexibility are no longer there. I could be wrong (sounds like a good gig!) but I think its very hard to find good PA jobs nowadays and even more difficult to find one with that sort of perk :( Shouldn't stop you from looking though. Check financial companies that is where the bulk of those jobs will be - good luck! I think you might be right there fandrew :(

Most wooden train sets interlink and you can get additional pieces later on. It all depends how much money you would like to spend. You can get a set from IKEA and they are not bad really. The best ones around seem to be from the make Brio, but obviously they are a bit more costly, also Thomas has a nice selection.
