I had contacted them yesterday on +971 800 5878 and they answered. There is a pre-recorded message first about opening times and location map but thereafter you have the option to speak to someone.

My intent was not to discourage you from the German School, I think you should give it a look. It has just not been my experience that it is as internationally oriented as the French School seems to be. But that being said I think our kids have the advantage that they are growing up in an English speaking environment, they speak an understand English. Which means that the time they spend in "English" class at an international school can be spent on reading and grammar. I think living in Dubai and sending your child to the German school you can absolutely expect that your child will be fully functional in both languages. Thanks Pish Posh, I just wish the German school was just a bit more internationally orientated...I shall definitely apply for entry. I guess next obstacle would be securing a space as these are always hard to find in the preferred schools.

Many thanks for your replies. We have registered at The Children's Garden but thereafter we are stuck. I just wish there was a school that would continue with the same concept. We had a look a the GCS but it is lacking something. Also, the reviews don't seem to be great and having spoken to quite a few people, most are looking to move their children from there. The German School sounds a good option, but on the other hand, are they teaching enough English to choose an English University thereafter? I just would like to give our son the option where he wants to be later on having 2 passports and for that he needs to be able to speak both languages. EmilyG - many thanks for your input, I appreciate any kind of help and will definitely get in touch with Silke. My thoughts are along the same lines as yours, but trying to convince an English man with boarding school background that the German School might be the better option, when in this school English is taught by a German proofs of great difficulty ;)

I thought if they had a contract then they should get a gratuity. Every other employee under the labour law receive one. Isn't a maid the same? Labour Law does not include domestic servants (maids/drivers), they have neither the rights nor responsibilities in it. That's why I said it's at the basis of the labour law and this it what some of us do pay as it is so far not compulsory.

If she has completed 4 years with you it would be 35 days of her basic pay. This is calculated at the basis of the labour law.

I understand that and we do as much as we can at home, but this does not teach reading and writing. And with additional languages like Arabic and French at schools I cannot see how one would be successful in learning a difficult language like German just at home. It takes Germans years to understand the Grammar therefore I would have loved if there was a school that would teach it as part of the curriculum.

What language do you speak at home? In today's english dominated world I would prefer my children taught in English. Even some Germany universities are now teaching in English. English and German, both in mother tongue therefore I have no doubts that he will be fluent in English but I also want him to be fluent in German.

Maids do not get gratuity by law just yet but this might soon be changed. Also there are many of us who do pay them the gratuity pay at the end of their service.

What i fail to understand is why are the poor animals made to suffer unnecessarily. If the authorities/ zoo owners don't have the funds to improve it then why don't they shut down the **** hole and relocate the animals to other zoos if not in the UAE then other countries in the region or any where else in the world??? The fault lies with people importing species of all sorts and then getting bored with them or can't handle them. Once this has happened, the Zoo is the first place to take them, even though animals do get moved about, other locations have to look at the animal ratio too therefore it is not as simple as that. Hopefully the proposed move to a create a Zoo in Barsha South will not be dismissed again!

@ Cleopatra : There is a big difference between people who, willingly and knowingly, participate in traffic, sports and what have you, and animals whose decisions are made for them @ Lolacat: I would say your comment is no more inaccurate, irresponsible, ignorant, naive and offensive then any of the other posters. You do not know anything about my lifestyle, let alone my clothes, food or handbags. We are talking about race horses - it is in their nature to run! You don't honestly believe that a horse would give that kind of performance if it didn't want to? e.g look at the horses in the Grand National, even if they haven't got a Jockey on them anymore they are still running along side the other riders jumping the hurdles, surely it has a choice now and still chooses to run and jump.

Accidents do happen and one can't stop everything because of this. Do you want to stop football as well because recently there have been some death? Or shall we all stop driving? As sad as it is, but this is part of life. edited by Cleopatra on 15/04/2012

The Taleem school cut-off dates are non-sensical and have created problems for almost every parent that has placed their chidlren in The Children's Garden. Having said that, I have checked with DIA and they said they would be willing to take my daughter directly in Year 2 rather than Year 1. The KG2 at Children's Garden is the equivalent of Year 1 at DIA and the Registrar has a list of all the equivalents. You should be fine if you explain it to them. HTH Thank you...I thought I would have to take My DS out of KG 1 year earlier.

I'm just trying to sort out schooling and find it strange that each and everyone seems to have a slight different system. My question is, if I have my child at the Children's garden with cut of time December and finishing KG2 at 6 years of age how do I go about putting him into DIA? Shall I take him out after KG1 into Year 1 or would this be to drastic? Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't know where you can buy them but you could ask at the Bistro in Irish Village. 'Not sure what the name of the restaurant is, it is in the middle and it's a French Bistro and they serve them there. Good luck

Well I think it looks like a great show and might take the kids That's what I thought but I just wanted to hear if there was any feedback of someone that actually had gone to see it. In regards to the animals, I'm sure they are very well taken care off as this Circus originates from Germany and they have very strict animal laws.

Please don't go to this, they use animals in their shows. It's backward and archaic and there is no excuse for that as entertainment these days. Have you been to see it? As far as I've been told there is only one tiger everything else is illusion and acrobatic.

Someone asked on Babies forum too where to get it, just wondering if anyone is selling theirs? I have seen them in IKEA and Carrefour I think so will get from there if need to, just wondering if anyone had a piece cut to size and fits. Thanks edited by Pingu on 11/03/2012 I wouldn't use those. Baby sheepskin is specially treated and the hair is cut short for the safety of the babies. I ordered mine from Natural Baby Shower in the UK. Great Service and excellent product. You could also try Bumble Bee in Dubai Mall.

There is a PINKY in Barsha too, its on the main street to access MOE. SAFITA is als o a good option as recommended here. If you got a good budget then opt for Marina furniture. IKEA has sure come a long way and their quality has improved and last a few moves locally. The Marina Tables seem to be all too long, but shall definitely give the others a try. Are the tables quite simplistic in those places or are they more Arabic style? I would prefer the contemporary look.

We also got ours at Pinky's in Sharjah but we have also bought loads of solid wood furniture at Luckys also in Sharjah and Safita which is in Al Quoz just down from Oasis Centre towards the Pepsi Factory. Where in Sharjah would I have to look? and is Safita on the Service Road next to SZR or further back?

Thanks Chocobella, I liked the first option of IKEA but my DH doesn't like to have IKEA furniture :( The table size we are looking for is about 2 x 1 meters and shouldn't really be more than AED 2500 I have a solid wood table that I need to sell. Not sure of the dimensions as I am not at home right now, but can let you know later on this evening. It does need to be refinished, but is a lovely solid (and heavy!) table. You've got mail HTH

Ladies, need your help please. I've been looking for months to find a kind of contemporary Dining Table that has a solid wooden top preferably stained in a dark brown colour. But the only ones I've seen seem to be extra long or well over my budget. Has anyone got any recommendations where to find one in Dubai. Even second hand is an option as proper would never really ages.

We finally did the Ballooning and it was great. The safety measures were excellent and our first trip even got cancelled due to strong winds. I guess accidents can happen and with a company like Balloon Adventures where they've been operating for 25 years, while it is sad that the accidents happened, it is still a very small percentage. At the end of the day you are taking on nature which is unpredictable.

They do work as long as they are the legitimates one. They not bribes but a steady income for the schools. The comoany pays for a school place every year, despite if it's being used or not. However if only one debenture was bought and 3 kids want to get in, it will not work.

You might try speaking to Shen Li at Juli Music Center on sheikh zayed road. I will never do business with this company again. Had some very bad experiences with them.
