I'm 99.9% certain that cos your husband was born in Britain to British parents you'll be OK. I would suggest you don't take my word for it though and check with embassy staff. The website is good. I'm sure i was told that my daughters would only have problems if they had non British parents. Thanks Feefmick, that was my understanding of it as well. I will research more thoroughly when the time comes to make sure. If DH was not British, I think that would be a problem, but as he is, hopefully all will be ok.

Sorry to hijack, but have been following this with interest. I am British, born to British parents in the UAE 30 something years ago. My fiancé iS British, born in UK to Brit parents. I was always led to believe that if I have a child born in the UAE, that's ok because of my husband (well he will be by then!). Now I'm not sure.... My experience of being born abroad has usually lead to more questions, more paper work etc. bit of a pain in the a** sometimes to be honest! I'm sure the situation would be worse if a second generation was then born out of the UK. On the other hand, when the time comes, I hate the thought of being separated from him at such an important time! Arrrgh! The trials and tribulations of being born an expat!!

I got married here under sharia law. I had my wedding cert translated into english then i went to my embassy here to get it attested/recognised. i then went back to my home country to get some legal things done and nothing was asked. But what is your religion and home country? The OP doesn't state hers either, and I think that is a major piece of info needed in this scenario.

How could a sharia law court marry 2 non muslims? Are you sure you've got that right?

Forgive my ignorance, but why on earth would you want to be married in the GCC, but not when you return to your home country?!

Here it is not acceptable, regardless of whether they are in a pool or on the beach. Snogging in public is not allowed. Lovely these 2 love each other and in other places it would be ok, but not here. I agree with OP And married or not, snogging in public is still not allowed. I agree with you Marroosh!:)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2147957/Abbey-Crouch-looks-royally-loved-Peter-holidays-Sophia-blue-bikini.html Really DM???!!! I dispair. So it's ok to be 'frolicking in the swimming pool', so long as you're a 'celebrity'. No wonder the rest of the world gets mixed messages on what goes on here! Grrr rant over. Sorry, needed to vent and there is no one else around to listen! They're married; in a hotel pool and not p1ssed up - i think that is where the big difference is I agree - also doing lots of loving in front of their little girl, I think it is lovely! Agreed - it's far better for children to be surrounded by a happy and loving environment, of course. My point was more directed at the double standards of the DM!

Get out of the country asap. If they don't recognise your marriage, you're in for a whole heap of trouble when you give birth. Stress you don't need!

Hi Inglesilla, I found your thread whilst searching 'China Visas'. I am in the same situation as you - i.e going to China but not on an organised tour. I've booked the flights and hotels for the entire stay. I was just wondering how you got on at the Chinese Embassy? Did they ask you for any letters or an invitation? I was hoping you could give me the 'heads up' before I embark on the embassy trip! Any help appreciated! TIA x

They do have a pool on the roof, and a restaurant/bar which is licensed. They also do shuttle buses into town, so you might not have to rely on taxis.

Hi Zara, I maybe able to help you. I recruit medical staff for hospitals here. If you'd like to send me your CV let me know and I'll put up my email for a bit. ETA - alternatively if you want to put your email up, I'll contact you. That way I'm not 'advertising' myself. <em>edited by coffee_mate on 14/05/2012</em>

I have the Gaggia Titanium and love it. You can adjust the bean grinder to your taste and I just love the smell! It also has a neat little space ontop to store (and heat!) your cups. Voila - a mini coffee shop in my kitchen!

I was in C4 MOE at the weekend and unfortunately picked up a pack of long life milk that didn't have a bar code on. Man on the till says 'there's no bar code madam' to which I replied jokingly 'is it free then?. So, one of the shop assistants goes off to the milk section to find out the price. In the meantime, we finish scanning my other items and the queue of people behind me gets longer and longer.....and longer. Still no sign of the 'milk man'. About 5 minutes (seemed like longer!) he returns.' No bar code madam and last piece'' Yes, I think we've established that! So he has to go to the stock room. For the next 10 minutes the till man becomes obsessed with registering the 'My Card' which I got ages ago but never registered. To cut a long story short, I ended up leaving without the milk because it was taking soooo long and the cashier was making such a fuss about this blaaaady card (must be on commission?!). Imagine the scene... Friday afternoon, loads of people waiting/tutting etc, me getting stressed! I simply could not spend anymore of my day stood in a supermarket and I don't need a loyalty card because I'm not coming back! AHHHHH. That feels so much better! Thanks ladies!

I converted from Asics to Saucony after being persuaded to try a pair whilst I was training for the London marathon. I now only run in Sauconys and the shop in Dubai Mall is great - they have a treadmill so you have a quick run in the different styles etc. It is on the top floor near Galeries Lafayette. If I were you, I would try a pair of Asics and a pair of Sauconys and alternate them to see which work best for you. I over-pronate a little and I find the cushioning of the Sauconys so much better for me. Depending on your running style, it might be worth looking at New Balance, as some of my runner friends swear by those, but I have never tried them. Good luck! I previously used to run in Brooks but now I'm also a Saucony convert!

Hi they are not expensive in Dubai, if you want a car cheaper to maintain you go for Ford. What offers are they doing on them with warranty and services etc ? No car is safe in Dubai, you don't need a big car to be safe. You just needed to drive safely. If I'm driving safely and some loony smacks into me, I'd certainly rather be driving a big heavy 4x4, rather than something like a Yaris! I think a big car makes you [i'>feel[/i'> safer at least.

I recently moved from Satwa to Arabian Ranches and am still looking for a new "go-to" curry delivery. Does anyone know if these people will deliver to AR? I'm guessing it might be a bit far for that? I used to live in the Springs and they delivered there, so I'm sure AR won't be a problem

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!! Lovely owners, they even sent me a Christmas card! (a sign that possibly I had a bit of an addiction?!). They are my 'go to' for a curry, without a doubt. Just be aware though that it is not called 'BRIT Balti' for nothing. They do 'british' style curries, therefore, a bit on the sweet side for some palates.

Are you sure they haven't moved it? I used to buy it from DSO spinneys. Then one day, I couldn't find any on the shelves. So.... I went to the drinks fridges to get a cold diet coke and low and behold, there they were! All the 6 packs of Dr Pepper Zero neatly stacked up at the bottom of the fridge!

i don't know if this is normal, or my DH is over reacting. actually the thing is that my DS is in nursery, and even if he is down with fever, infection or not feeling well my DH sends him nursery, until the nursery calls home and ask to pick him. my DH never allows him to take a day off, and if i advocate DS, he says this will do more harm than good. i don't think such a young kid will like to take off from school, and be happy at home. as he have friends at nursery, and really love and enjoys there. when he was 2, not in nursery, my DH had a training course at London Business School, so me n my DS also tagged along, and we went to Paris also in that trip. now i have 2 DS. and my DH has a training course coming up in September for Philadelphia. now he is saying that DS will be in FS1, and i don't want him to miss classes. so you guys will stay back and i'll be back after attending course. is he being reasonable or exaggerating the situation? so do you ladies also drop certain plans for the child in FS1? Regarding the bit where you said DS gets sent to nursery even when he has a fever/infection - I bet the other parents love you!

Its not contagious and there is no cure. It's a horrible, cruel, dispicable disease. My sympathies go out to your friend. She could be in for a very tough ride. We watched my grandfather suffer this for many years until he finally succumbed. Honestly, in the end it was a blessing. There are drugs that are meant to slow the progression if given in the early stages. This is so so sad. I pray this disease never touches my family again. Its heartbreaking to see them physically fit, but mentally gone (or going, over many years). Best of luck to your friend.
