Yes, sick chickens, even though there were lovely times when they were chicks under the heat lamp....now they are big and stopped laying a few days ago, have paralyzed legs & wings and are making me panic. I am waiting to see what to do, but in all of the chickens I have had, never seen anything like this. I also do not agree that they just drop dead without a reason. I have only had weak chicks die (those born under 20g just don't seem to make it). Makes your heart ache... Hope you get to the bottom of this problem quickly, Al Quwatain!

I thought it was Bavarian food :) @KKS: South Germany (both states of Bavaria & Baden-Wuertenberg) are bordering Austria and Switzerland. There are quite a number of similar/same dishes with minor variations, spaetzle being one of them (quite often eaten just with salad ad a complete main course). Spaetzle itself are a side with meat and the usual heavy German gravies. edited by crystalsindubai on 13/01/2012

The roads are fine, dual carriage thru the tunnel to Kalba and partly thereafter; just careful driving over there to watch out for some "very individualistic driving" practices. There is an alternative route, if you like, i.e. continuing from the border inland Oman; then, at the T-junction where you would turn right (south) towards Muscat, take the left (northern) route and drive up to the small Oman/UAE border post leading into Kalba along the coast. It's been a long time since I travelled there, so I can't tell you about the roads, or whether this drive would be more scenic.e Just on piece of advice: if you decide to u-turn at the Hatta/Oman border and go via the tunnel, do go on any day BUT Friday. Last month we stood/waited over 2 hours at the UAE office.

In a previous thread someone mentioned that one could buy the spaetzle here - perhaps you wish to research? Mmmmhhhh, mouth's watering just at the thought of Kaesspaetzle! edited by crystalsindubai on 13/01/2012

If you are in easy reach of Bur Dubai, there is a business service shop (can't remember the name) on Khaled Bin Al Waleed Street right opposite Bur Juman/Union Bank / next to "And So To Bed" - they provide all kinds of services such as lamination, etc.

It's subject to negotiation. So far as I understand it if your LL can demonstrate that a rental increase is due according to the calculator (which is being updated at the moment) then it can be increased after only one year. However, if no increase is due & you have a renewable contract then you may only insist on the same terms. HTH. And, as I do understand it, a three months notice period applies prior to expiry/renewal term (as per RERA) for any proposed changes.

I know this sequence of action is quite common - but it really makes no sense. Having previously been involved in the real estate business, it has been my experience that fully maintained/painted properties are usually the ones that go first. Properties that have not been prepared very often make such a unfavorable impression.

oh dear, is that a fish market? It is at the beginning of the central shopping street with six parking "pockets" left and right, and Wicker is located on your left in the second or third "pocket" as you walk/drive down from the market. Sorry for this confusion... hope this helps!

Hi Exile, The Holistic Institute is in Jumeirah Business Center in Cluster V (which is almost exactly opposite the Damas Gold Building), as you drive up the access ramp it's the building on the left, 30th or 31st floor. They do have a large selection, but nevertheless I would suggest you give them a prior call at 04-450 3525 to ensure they have what you are looking for. edited by crystalsindubai on 19/12/2011

Absolutely loved the place! One of my favorite memories of the desert: it was a full-moon night, doors wide open... about 3 am there was a sound tap, tap, tap - as if someone's walking on the wooden deck halfway surrounding the bungalow (!)... so decided to 'catch the thief" and walked out onto the deck... to a just beautiful scene .... two gazelles locking horns / caressing on the lawn just in front! Quetly, quietly, sat down and watched them until they just sauntered off into the fully lit desert. Magical... edited by crystalsindubai on 18/12/2011

I desperately seek any advice on our unfortunate situation. It has come to our attention that the villa we have lived in for the past 2 years has been repossessed by the bank as the landlord was apparently in dispute with them for increasing the rates on his loan with them. Subsequently the villa was sold at auction last week. We have until the end of January on our contract and the landlord does not respond to any phone calls or emails that we send him. He owes us monies for work done on the villa amounting to 6000DHS and we will also require the deposit back of 6500DHS. I know the chances of recovering this money back are probably non existant but is there anything I can do legally to get this money back. I'm so annoyed I could scream. How are these landlords able to get away with this? Hence we are forced to move out at the end of Jan and are now on the look out for a 3 bed villa for 130k. I would approach Rera and seek to negotiate to remain in the villa until the outstanding is recouped in way of rent.

I agree, the majority of Britain has never wanted to be part of the whole Europe thing. We are an island economy and cannot afford to be bailing others out. I'm glad someone finally stood up. During the bank crisis within the last few years, it was actually a lot of the now beleaguered Euro that bailed out these UK banks! Opions on both sides have merit. It seems, with Britain having sat on the fence for quite a number of years now, decision-making time has arrived, and they opted out. Decisions are better than interminable indecision - so now all parties can live with it and act accordingly. Only time will tell if his decision was spot on for the UK, or a disaster. edited by crystalsindubai on 10/12/2011

We have a documentary the BBC did in the 70's about the British chief of Dubai police and his relationship with the Sheik.. It's really interesting... That would be Brig Briggs... bet it's interesting! You know him ? We wrote to the BBC for it for our friend who is is son !! Yep, lovely man - like father like son lol I know of him; many in my circle at the time did know and respect him, receive advice. And, of course, in those early days of a new country (both before and after foundation) an experienced person like Brig Briggs was much needed as Chief od Police (or was he the Advisor to the new local Chief of Police, don't recall). He was known to be a true advocate of and for the local people who found themselves in unchartered waters after the British decided to leave this protectorate in 1968. I would love to see/or purchase this documentary. Would you please let me know the title? edited by crystalsindubai on 10/12/2011

I was looking through this website last night, it's a great insight to how Dubai used to be . I came across this page which I found funny :) http://www.dubaiasitusedtobe.com/pages/people/dubaisjumeirahjane.shtm Loving it! And that's the JJ attitude I remember...! Years later, a film on Dubai expats was produced by some Brits... had everyone locally & abroad in uproar for its impertinence!

I first lived in Dubai as a child in 95 back in the days when Chicago Beach Villas stood where the Madinat is and Jebel Ali was way out in the sticks, and I absolutely loved it (but I do still love my time here now as well) and always knew I would come back. Hi Bella, did you live in CBV? People just loved to live there and cried when they had to vacate... I was part of the team building place starting from 1976 - 1979 and we had a ball. Cried when it was pulled down - but then, I love the Madinat as well! O M G We were the first family to move into CBV. Memories. Great memories! Gather your husband or father was then with one of the big companies that were "privileged" to be able to rent into CBV... then still "in the middle of nowhere"! Remember the parties and "high life" that was going on there...

I miss the old days ..... not sure if anyone mentioned it already but do you remember the old weekend was actually Thursday / Friday it was only in more recent times they changed it to Fri/Sat so it was easier for business. Ohhh yes and didn't you used to get your windscreen washed at the lights and you were always wondering if they could do it before the lights changed lol Miss the old days, too. And I remember when weekend was Friday. Full Stop. And if necessary you popped into office on Fridays as well... Now, wouldn't that provoke an absolute outcry from nowadays expat?
