In Abu Dhabi it is very difficult. I know of a friend's colleague who is a doctor and they rejected her request to sponsor her child because the child's father is in the UAE, despite the fact that female doctors should be allowed to. Then I know of a divorced lady (not in the category you've mentioned) who sponsors her daughter. But she has such a hard time renewing the visa every year and has to get an approval each time. So my conclusion is that there is no fixed rule. Best thing is to ask the company's PR to go to the immigration department and inquire about your specific case.

Hi Ladies. Although I've done the many times, i seem i have forgotten! I am applying to renew my son's passport. I am signing in place of the "applicant to sign" as he is a child. Does that make me the applicant? because later it says "Relationship of applicant to intended passport holder", and "Name of applicant applying on their behalf". Is it "Mother" and my name? or "son" and his name? it makes more sense to write down my name as the application is already printed out by my son's name. Sorry for the silly question! *feeling dumb* Thank you

My husband has looked round one school and it looks like it will be ok to get my eldest into it but it will be more difficult for my 8 year old. Has anyone got any advice on which good British curriculum schools it would be easier to get my youngest into? Thanks Look at Al Dar Academies. You may have a chance at Al Mamoora since it has just opened September this year.

Speak to Anand from lightfoot. He planned our friend's holiday to the Maldives which they thoroughly enjoyed. He'll customise something to fit your budget. I asked for his contact details as we too are looking at a holiday there soon.

Hi Noor. I had a problem and I needed urgent advice. I called the lawyer in the link below and he was very helpful and spent time explaining the options I have. Of course since it was on telephone it was free, but if I had to take the case further and meet him up there would be payment then http://www.awf.ae/mr_mohamad_elhaies.html Good luck. We went for umrah also few years back and the only place I was not in an abaya was on my flight to saudia. Would recommend an abaya for your entire visit including airport transit. If you have a daughter consider some abaya or prayer clothes for her in the Holy cities as my friend's daughter was only 4 and she was harassed by other ladies for dressing her up in half-sleeve tops and pants. My daughter is 4 and only has/wears shorts  *running to get her some conservative clothes*

Hello Ladies. Can someone please suggest a good taxi company to book a taxi (7-seater) from Mecca to Madinah? By good i mean a decent car that arrives on time with a mature driver, as i have read many horror stories on bad drivers! Thank you.

I don't know any place close to Al Reef, but we've used Dr Sachi Kumar (pediatric surgeon) in NMC downtown. I would recommend him. I don't know the price as we used our insurance. Good luck.

Hello Ladies, A colleague of mine is applying for Schengen Visa. Travel medical insurance is on the list of required documents. He called the visa centre and asked if he actually needs to buy the insurance, he was told "please follow the requirements" :S. He is quite confused, what if the visa gets rejected after buying the insurance? I volunteered to ask here, since I'm sure there must be ladies who've gone through the same. Thank you in advance.

There is a shop behind Zayed University on Delma 13th, opposite to My first Gym. Very good quality and a big variety. Sorry i can't remember the name, but if you google My first gym, open it in google maps and look at the satellite view. You can easily see the line of buildings behind Zayed University. I think its the one in the corner. Sorry I am rubbish in giving directions but i hope this helps :)

Hi ladies. I need an idea about the average fee for a private school in London, and, are state schools there any good? here is the story.. My sister-in-law is a single mum in London. She keeps calling my husband (her brother) for money. Today my husband asked her to send him details of her boy's school fees because he wanted to know where all her money goes. It turned out that she sends him to a private school with termly fee of £2900 (for year two, then £3900 for years three to six). My husband and i felt that was too much, especially that this was more than we pay for our kids here. However, we did not want to judge since we do not know the average fees in London. My husband in particular felt exploited, because he thinks she has an option to send her child to a state school but she opts not to, because state schools are "rubbish" as she claims. In our attempts not to be unjust to her, hubby asked me to research school fees in the UK. I tried and found articles that give a wide range, from FS to high school, so i thought i'd ask mummies here. I appreciate your replies!

My children have always co-slept and i would kick them out a month or so shy of FS1. They know they will be going to school and it is time to sleep in their own beds. Never had a problem with that and it worked extremely well for everybody. Do whatever suits you.

http://lifeofastrangerwhostolemyphone.tumblr.com/Sorry but I didn't like this. The guy bought a stolen phone. He clearly can't afford to go to Ibiza as a professional thief. He's a single Arab bachelor, lower middle class. I want to find that masjid he loves to pose in front of. The woman writing the blog is clearly more educated and far wealthier than this guy could hope to be, shame on her for ridiculing those with less material opportunities. Don't share your opinion. He is a thief, shame on him.. He is a thief, no doubt. But the way the educated lady is dealing with the theft is uneducated. She should have reported him to the police so that he, and others would stop stealing half-naked drunk tourists (no offence), but she is obviously having fun. Just my opinion that i am free to share.

There is nothing much you can do now as schools are closed for the summer holiday. This could be an advantage as all schools would have full waiting lists at the end of the academic year, however, places arise at the beginning of the year due to drop outs. I would advise you to start calling schools first week of new academic year (first week of September i guess). Good luck.

D-J - till when did your kids sleep in the travel cot? I don't want this to be a permanent option and I'd like to put her back in her proper cot. My LOs co-slept until they were about 2. Travel cot was only when they napped during the day because obviously i could not leave them on our bed unattended.

she's one of those babies.. i couldn't use the cot with any of my three, they would also bang their heads or stick their arms out and get them stuck. And bumpers aren't that good, an eight months old would easily push the bumper down. I don't know how wooden cots work with others, but i found the travel cot better. The mesh is safe and the cot can be easily moved between rooms.

Yes then the one you used was the correct size. We must all be sweet tooths!! I would add an extra croissant and some milk to balance it out. I've never tried the low fat condensed milk, I dont think going low fat would be suited to this recipe, but it would be great to find out! Thanks G

I wish I'd gone to New York. Now by the time I will be able to make it there without children I will be so much older and my capacity for partying by night and shopping by day will be greatly diminished :D Thanks for the suggestion Daza, but my chances for doing so diminished some long time ago. I am planning for the 4th - but for some reason i feel it's my first (excuse my amnesia).

As Daza said - travel! Holidays consist of family friendly resorts and dragging huge amounts of luggage when you have kids. I wish I had seen Japan, USA road trip, Africa, safari etc. We had in fact booked a trip to Zanzibar last year but on a whim went to Singapore instead - I regret we didn't go then as Singers is a very child-friendly place. Apart from that, enjoy lie-ins, date nights, wearing short / tight clothes, sunbathing, partying, yacht parties, desert bashing...umm I think that's it. posted same time.. same answer given to Daza lol

Thank you for the recipe Ginnee. I have tried it, its good but i have one comment. I found it too sweet for my taste. I might have done something wrong. I bought the bigger can of the condensed sweetened milk because there were only two sizes from Maraei, and the smaller one looked tiny. What do you think i should do to make it less sweet, Umm Ali expert? :) oh and by the way, i also forgot it in the oven and it turned out like a bread pudding lol How big is a big can and how small is a small one? Hmm I don't know. will check which size/weight I use when I get home. I guess you could use 2/3rds of the can you used to make it less sweet. Or add an extra croissant and maybe 3/4 cup of milk extra? No no it was Nestle, just googled it now (im at work). The one i used is the 395g, the smaller is the 90 g. Huge difference between the two cans. And another question, has anybody tried the fat free version? i'd love to use it but afraid it wont cook as good as the full fat.

Im sure you're going to hate me next time you go out to eat and try Umm Ali from a restaurant. I'm always sorely disappointed when I try this dish out, as it's just no match for this recipe! Pink sushi, just buy any cream. Puck is always good, though if you can find a runny cream, its better. Btw ladies, what cream are you using? I can never find a runny cream that you can whip. Not like back home :/ I have a box of Al Marai Chef's Choice Cooking Cream in a tetra pack with sealable lid, it lasts for 3 days once opened. I have the 500ml box though it also comes in litre as well. Its runny but dont think it can be whipped. Its meant to give a "superior texture and flavour to hot dishes such as sauces, soups and casseroles" so it sounds about right for this infamous Umm Ali. Am going to try this too, its my husband's favourite desert, just have to buy the croissants. Marai has the same cream for sweets (has a strawberry on the box instead of chicken). I wondered which to select so i got Puck.

There is also the GEMS American Academy, which is also very new. I am very interested in personal accounts or reviews of each of the American Schools. We are moving to Abu Dhabi from Dubai very soon. RoseLAC My youngest child started Foundation Stage 1 at a UK curriculum school because he was very excited to join his "bigger" siblings. I was very apprehensive about this, as my other children did not start school so young. I have been absolutely happy that he has been so successful and excited to attend school everyday. Albeit, he comes home daily at 12:30pm (not a full day like the others), he is delighted from the moment I drop him and the smile remains until I pick him up. Just a thought. Encore i'd be interested to know which UK curriculum school finishes FS1 at 12.30. Thanks.

Why don't you just tell him exactly how you feel? like how you did here. From his response you will know what to do next. If he continues to disrespect you and makes fun of what you say, dump him on spot.
