D-J, I feel your pain, really. Isn't mommy-guilt the worst? But hey, if you are expected to do everything and work your butt off outside the home, then of course sometimes something will slip. And I will echo what other posters said, your husband should be helping you. If you have a paid job and you are contributing to the household, in my opinion, this forfeits any notion of kids and home being a woman's job. If a woman is expected to do "a man's job" (ie. bringing home the bacon), then a man should do the woman's job too... That depends on whether DH is happy at all with OP working. You ladies are spot on. I don't bring bacon home, my money goes to my pocket. DH doesn't need it and "i work to satisfy my needs". Long conversation with DH about this a few days ago..

There is so much pressure these days to be super-mums and I am sorry you feel so guilty. The kids will survive and do just fine. Im sorry your Dh is not more understanding. Perhaps he doesnt realise that there are two parents equally capable of doing the homework and that its not a role exclusively for women. The thing is that i have never asked him to help

Ah yes, the guilt comes with the milk. Honestly D-J, give yourself a break. If trying to be 'perfect' is making you miserable then make some changes. Thanks for the advice. You sound like mom :) keeps telling me let your hubby help, maybe do the grocery, i tell her what if he picks bad apples!

Don't beat yourself up D-J. I'm a SAHM and I forgot all about homework this weekend too. The kids were about to head up to bed last night when I suddenly went 'argh, homework!' Cue a very hurried spelling and reading session! Sometimes we forget things and it's doesn't mean we are bad mums. If you work Saturdays can your husband not help with homework at the weekend? He could if i ask him to, but i am the DIY mom, have to make sure everything is perfect.. Well i guess it's better done anyhow than not done at all. ETA i still feel it's my fault, i could've helped him with it on Friday :( edited by D-J on 23/09/2012

Bottom line, he brings money and i do EVERYTHING else. This is my case right here. Except that I don't do everything else either ;) Sometimes I wish I were a man so that I didn't have to bother with all the daily life nuisance. I really don't enjoy domestic tasks, doing birthday parties and events, and all that. If I had my way, I'd go to work, go to the gym, watch some t.v. or read, then go to bed. That would be my ideal day. But instead I'm sort of expected to be the super-mom, and not only am I disinterested in this role, but I also find it robs me of any joy in life. I get no satisfaction from doing it all, instead, I feel that this does not allow me to take anything in. Wow, that was kind of a depressing post... Wow! u are "disinterested in this role", "it robs any joy in life", and u "get no satisfaction from doing it all"? Sorry to hear that, but my kids make life worth living even if i had to do everything by my self and be a super-mom.

[b'>If you trust your DH[/b'>, send him along. Call ahead of time regardless and make sure it's ok to have fathers there (culturally it may not be ok so better to confirm). Otherwise, just say you DS is unable to attend since you can't. you have to be very trusting, I mean all those mothers there could have their eyes on the really nice hubby who'll do the parties...;) :P lol, i am surprised he offered. Check the "are women more capable" thread.

Lighthearted thread here: I have done an informal survey of my lady friends and found that we all hold down full time, demanding jobs, keep the house clean and tidy, work out, maintain ourselves (hair, nails etc), have active social lives, are either pregnant / raise children, run businesses, do courses / further education on our weekends, organise the household, cook / bake, do charity work, buy birthday presents and a WHOLE host of other things. By comparison, our men go to work, come home, have dinner cooked for them, don't do much maintenance around the house, will only do chores with bribery / severe nagging, do nothing on their weekends, don't really do much sport and basically complain about every small request (eg can you please collect my prescription / drop off the dry cleaning / change the bin). Is it that women are just more capable and can get things done without demanding a medal? Or are men just more lazy? How can we redress this balance?!! I think they are also a bit blinkered to how much we do as they would likely happily sit in a messy house and eat instant noodles all day. Is it just me and my friends? Are there any ladies out there with helpful, gracious, smiling husbands?? you're meeting the wrong sort of men !! lol mine takes his turn with cooking, does all the DIY/maintenance etc without complaint, does as much housework as i do, and enjoys his hobby/sport... I believe you found the wrong sort of man PennyLane! well on the good side. I do everything OP says and DH does nothing, and when i dare to say we are out of milk he will furiously reply "if u want me to start doing your JOB i'll do it, provided u do mine and bring money home for the family". Bottom line, he brings money and i do EVERYTHING else.

I really can't see a 5 or 8 year old going into a purse to take money????? When I babysat for a 6 year old boy, he took a gold bracelet from me and hid it for a week. He thought it was a game! Yes, some children do take things. but only ONE 50 dirham note? how skilful is this child to pull out one note and return the others back neatly in the wallet then in the bag.

Not surprising. Generally speaking, it's the same buyers/sellers as you find on Dubizzle so it's really hit or miss. at least in Dubizzle you get to ask the seller questions and see the item before you decide to buy if you are in doubt. In Souq you are not allowed to contact the seller, and there is often only one photo for the item with no description at all. I wouldn't buy something more than a 100 dirhams from Souq.

i didnt read all three pages, but, i once went to the UK for 3 days and had only my pyjama and laptop on my back. I actually carried a medium sized suitcase to the UK and the same back. I have to admit, it didnt feel awful, but not as good as travelling light with no luggage. I know its bad to say that because "u r making ppl feel happy", but if one day i needed such a favour, will i find someone to do the same for me? My mother would happily carry a big suitcase for a total stranger, i would do it only for a family member.

Hello I have found out im 8 weekss pregnant and would like recommendations on what doctors to register with and what the procedure is here in abu dhabi thanks for any advice No procedure, just choose a hospital/centre and book an appointment. Check if they take your insurance. If you are a high risk patient, your doctor would probably refer you to Corniche hospital when you are in your last trimester or before according to your situation. Recommendations are Dr. Tank at swedish medical, German Centre, Noor Hospital at airport, Dr Sawsan at Cure.. Good luck.

atlanta_gal any updates? we are thinking of doing the same, getting a maid from Indonesia directly. Did you have to contact an agency there or did the maid do that? because as mentioned below i heard maids cannot fly individually from Indonesia, their papers have to processed through an agency there. And the 2000 dirhams for the passport sounds reasonable provided they have to pay for the agency (part of the 10 000 dirhams you pay for the agency here goes to the agency there). Please update us. Thanks in advance.

Okay, not aimed at EW but just so frustated with this issue at work. People are always spelling definitely as definately. Oh my God, like ALL the time. We're an advertising agency, and today my client called me and said "Hey, I think you've not spelt DEFINATELY right." And then I politely corrected him and he's like "Are you sure? Maybe it's a UK/US spelling thing?" Someone shoot me. send this to your client: http://www.d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y.com LOL!

Thank you ladies. I don't have bad acne, well, they start bad then they become tiny in a couple of weeks. The thing is my face breaks when i am stressed, which means whenever i have an important occasion i have acne. I remember some long time ago i bought a clear and clear cleanser which was so harsh i would want to cry after each wash. I remembered that while standing in front of all these products yesterday, this is why i bought sebamed cleansing foam. Despite being so mild (as all sebamed products), it tingles while on my face and i cant leave it for the recommended 5 minutes. However, i like it initially. I didn't go with any of the recommendations because it was only "pro-active" last time i checked and this wasn't readily available, but thank you all anyway.

Mentioning MAC. I have just passed by their shop and had a look. The lady there said i had "beautiful skin" and dont need to conceal much (apart from the tiny acne on my forehead that are stress-related). She said only powder foundation will do in my case without concealer but if i want extra coverage and heavier makeup i'd go for liquid then powder. She said i cant apply liquid alone then i will look all greasy. I then had a look in life style. They have these max factor liquid foundation for 75 dirhams only which i thought were light and matched my colour. Although i havent asked what the price was at MAC, i guess 75 is a fraction of the price there (i only saw the price on a brush that was 230 at MAC).

Thank you for all the replies. I have a few questions: 1- Is "Bare Minerals" a brand or is it actually bare minerals i can find from any brand? 2- If i can't get bare minerals, what other foundation do you recommend? 3- If i want to conceal the darkness under my eyes, do i apply concealer under the foundation? 4- Do all brushes have the same names/numbers or do they differ from brand to brand? edited by D-J on 31/07/2012

Call clarks and ask them what sizing they use. Alternatively, draw your daughters feet on a piece of paper, drag a line from tip of toe to heel and measure, see how many cm (the bigger foot) and use any conversion tool on the web to get the size.

I recently ordered some items from one retailer through SnS and another directly with "free international shipping". The SnS order arrived promptly within a matter of days and I was able to track its entire progress. The "direct" delivery still has not arrived after 2 weeks and I've just been informed that I should "expect" an extra 11 day wait due to the Olympics! (ordering from the UK). Also - I cannot track it, just been told it's been "shipped" but no further info. SnS messages you the entire time - eg your shipment is getting on a plane tonight, your shipment is with Aramex etc. SnS is so easy and the additional charges are really not much at all - I paid 73aed for 6 items of clothing. I will avoid ordering directly in future when international shipping is involved. Actually i got this reply from M&S yesterday: Thanks for your email about placing an order for delivery to the United Arab Emirates. At this time we don't have an online delivery service to the UAE. For an order to be delivered to your home address it would need to be placed [u'>in person[/u'> in one of our participating UK stores. Are u sure you'll get your items? :)

We have a problem... This week we visited orthopedic doctor, he informed us that our little one has flat foot, he highly recommended orthopedic shoes. We went around a lot of shoe shops but couldn't find any shoes like this, does anybody know a shop where they have these kind of shoes? Child is 4 years old. Thank you! Hi anamar. Can i ask you why is it a problem to have flat feet? i have taken my child to several orthopaedics and i was told there is no cure for the condition. An insole can help give your child a better posture, or simply a good pair of pablosky or start rite shoes (these were recommended by the orthopaedic). Other recommendations are to walk on the beach and ride a bike barefoot.

Hi Ladies. M&S ships to the UAE for 15 GBP and takes 10 - 14 days. Do you think it would be better if i order directly or open a shop & ship account (which i still cannot understand despite reading many threads over here). What do you think? Thank you. You have to order in store though dont you? ( In the UK i mean) i dont think you can order online and have it shipped here unless you use SnS You could order from a "participating UK store" to get it delivered internationally without SnS, i guess http://www.marksandspencer.com/International-Delivery/b/183243031
