So now if someone puts a thumbs down on my post does that mean that they don't like the post in general or that they don't like thumbs down? Thumbs down to thumbs down or thumbs down to the post? If you have put a thumbs down please enlighten us as to why you did so.

I agree. I would have been lost when I moved here had it not been for this forum. You could get the scoop on anything instantly. It has changed so much in the last year. :(

Try BabiesRus.ca It is part of toysRus but just for baby items. They have everything under the sun and are very inexpensive. Make sure you are on the the .ca website as opposed to the .com as babiesrus.com is the American site. edited by daisydai on 20/04/2015

DT - You are right to be concerned. Your instincts are correct. You should tell the Mother. Anyone posting anything about someone's children online needs to have that Parent's permission. If she does than so be it. Nobody should post pictures of children online without a Parents' concern regardless of wether they are a coach, teacher or housekeeper - simple. I can appreciate you being concerned about what is fair and unfair to the account holder but we are talking about children and an online presence. I for one am fanatical about my children's online presence. I know I would appreciate the opportunity to properly address the situation if someone were to post photos of my children online without my permission. ;) What about other parents? I post photos of my children's teams at sports tournaments etc and have never asked permission of the other parents. I've never had permission asked of me either but know others have posted similar photos with my children in them. I agree that if someone is employed in a role that brings them in to contact with children they should not put photos of them online without permission but where do you draw the line? Daza I really don't know where and if we even can draw the line. There is only so much we can control so we really should control what we can. I attended a workshop on this topic and it was an eye opener for me. The presenter used my Daughter for his example. He googled her name in images and up she came. He followed the image back to another Parent's unsecured FB account. It was a group photo of her in her gymnastic club leotard at a competition. From the photo and the Parent's post he was easily able to ascertain the club's name and even what group/ level she was in. He then googled the Club. With the information on the club's webpage he was able to see the location of the club and their schedule. There he had it. What my Daughter looked like along with exactly where she was going to be and when she was going to be there. He did this in approx two mins. I felt physically ill. I know I can't prevent an online presence for my kids. All I can do is try to control as much of it as possible. Hopeless perhaps but better than nothing. I'm sorry but this is hardly rocket science! It's well documented that many employers and further academic institutions check social media prior to acceptance. The information has been out there for years. So what do you think is going to happen to your child? This is the bottom line. Of course it is not rocket science. I honestly find that comment a bit rude. I was simply sharing an experience. Everyone is fully aware that organizations and institutions have been checking out what they can about people online. Everyone does it. It is in fact the action that started this whole thread - ? I don't think anything specific is going to happen to my children from having photos online. I do however believe that if it makes me feel uncomfortable as a Parent I am going to listen to my instincts and keep their online presence as non existent as possible. At the end of the day we will all do what we are comfortable with and should certainly not be judged. edited by daisydai on 22/03/2015

DVD's are always an option too. Virgin has a Fitness section in their DVD area. You can also find tons of free networks on youtube. Nothing can take the place of a good instructor but if you are experienced in yoga DVDs are always nice because you can press pause and take that extra time to practice a particular pose.

Appletiser , have you shared the lady's info who distributes Lampe Berger ? I would love some .. I usually get my stock from Canada but I'm out:( I usually try to buy mine in Canada also. I have been buying the oil at GL and it is so overpriced. Would love to be able to find another distributor here in DXB.

I am in need of a new catalytic burner for my Lamp Berger. Apparently they need to be replaced from time to time. GL in Dubai Mall is currently no stock Mam. Does anyone know the name of the store in MOE that carries Lamp Berger or know of anywhere else in Dubai that carries it? I have noticed that this thread is quite old and was hoping perhaps someone had seen it somewhere else since.

We live in Cedre Villas in DSO and there are TONS of kids out and about. At first I thought DSO was a bit too far out but am now realizing that it really is not. We are always having kids ringing the doorbell for a play and if not my Daughters can head to one of the many fields or playgrounds that are swarming with kids. It has worked out wonderfully for us. Good luck in finding a new place. edited by daisydai on 15/04/2013

No worries, Daisy, Beachcombers is v family oriented and has a special corner with a kids' menu. It's right on the beach, so children can play there. It is a self-service buffet, so quite casual anyhow, as you say. Enjoy! Great Vdella! Thank you!

Never mind the cats - some of the kids on skateboards in the compounds are on a death wish! I know! They are crazy. Not only are they not wearing helmets but they don't even where shoes!!! They all ride around ripping down the hills barefooted! It always makes me laugh how different things are here. In Vancouver the kids in my neighbourhood would be wearing a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and probably an inch of bubble wrap! Ha ha! Thanks for the heads up emlsnre. Will keep an eye out for the kitty too!

It is really hard to say. We had a horrible experience at a GEMS school. We moved our DD to a different school and it was a great decision for our Dd and our family. I do however have many friends who love GEMS and their children are happy and thriving there. There are too many GEMS schools and each child and family is unique. It is impossible to paint it all with the same brush.

Third Friday and Saturday are both discount days now. I headed down to the new location on SZR last Friday eager to check it out. I usually shopped at the DM location so I was very excited about the move. Buying groceries with two kids at the Dubai mall is massively inconvenient. I must say I was very disappointed with the new store and cafe. It was not busy at all and parking was a breeze which was great but other than that it was horrible. Dinner at the cafe was lacking in every aspect. The play area is gone. The menu is smaller. It is not cozy like the old cafe. The service and the food was horrible. The store is set up poorly. It is smaller than DM. They were out of stock for most of the things I needed and they had no idea when they were receiving new stock. Prices were not only not lowered but it seemed as though some had even gone up. I used to look forward to my big monthly shop and trip to the cafe. Sad I know but it is the little things. I was so excited for the new location - perhaps why I was so disappointed. This was just my review but hopefully not everyone has such a bad experience. Is it at the old Capri Sun place on SZR edited by daisydai on 20/03/2013 Yes, right beside the RIDE Bike shop. edited by daisydai on 20/03/2013

You are right to be concerned. You can not take this issue seriously enough. BB are a very serious issue. Once in your your home they are almost impossible to get rid of. In North America and Asia they are a nightmare right now. We had a flat in Hong Kong that my Husband used for work. We had to pretty much walk away from it due to a BB infestation that was traced back to the binding of a sailing book borrowed from a wine bar. Similarly my cousin left a rental flat in Vancouver due to infestation from the neighbours. When I say leave behind I mean furniture and everything. BB will infest everything including wallpaper. In the greater Vancouver area there have been entire libraries temporarily closed due to BB infestation. Restaurants you name it. Arm yourself with knowledge on BB, learn your rights if anti and speak to your employer. Do not take this lightly or you will be sorry.

Plans for this weekend include a visit to Miracle Garden. I am going to stop at the store enroute and buy both of my kids whistles. Kids will be told to blow their whistle and point at any guards that blow their whistles. Ha ha ha! Very mature but thanks for the warning. We'll visit another weekend then as I don't want to be deafened by whistles... Get a sense of humour. Like I would really do something like that. Really.....

When I travelled with my girls on a 14 hour flight, I brought old and new toys. Small enough to fit in our handcarry of course. The new toys I would wrap in wrapping paper. I got them a book, colouring book/crayons, and a cheap mini doll (similar to Polly Pocket but a lot less expensive). They had a lot of fun unwrapping and they were kept entertained all through their waking hours. They opened a new gift every 2 or 3 hours. My advice is similar. I used to travel between Vancouver and Taipei on a regular basis with my then 2 yr old. I would bring small toys and wrap them. I would buy enough to space them out every hour or two. Besides the portable DVD player one thing that was a huge hit was Aquadoodle toys. You can get bears of different sizes, small mats etc and I have seen them here at Toys R Us. Honestly the most helpful thing on longhaul flights with small children is baileys and coffee. For myself of course. After 9 years of traveling with kids I have found it is the perfect mixture of alcohol, sugar and caffeine!

The Farm is in Al Barari. It is a beautiful area off of Emirates Rd around Global Village. The restaurant is nice and the food is great but the service is sometimes slow. I believe they even have yoga mornings there now. I love it there. Enjoy your breakie but like I mentioned bring your patience and good company.

Yes, thanks it was Destination Maternity. If you love them treat yourself to the real ones as they will last forever. Don't worry about them going out of style because uggs are clearly not about style. I always joke that Ugg is short for ugly. That being said until moving to Dubai from Vancouver I lived in mine for probably 10 yrs. Last winter we headed to Amsterdam for Christmas. I left all of mine at home thinking I would want to be a bit dressier for the trip. I cried when I arrived because my feet were soooo cold and everyone and their dog were wearing them! I was so jealous I had to buy a new pair. BTW in my experience Emus are almost as expensive as Uggs but do not even compare in quality.

I don't think there is a reasonable time for party music. It can go on all night if it is inside or at a decent level outside. This music was so loud that it was 3 villas down and a row up and I could hear it to the point that it kept us awake with all of our doors and sliders closed. Seriously blaring! I don't expect people to coordinate when they are having parties. That is just silly. Most people know to turn the music down a bit or move the party inside once it gets late. I hear neighbours all the time and I am sure they hear us. But this was just too much. Honestly I have to admit I don't mind it's raining men too much and taste in music does thankfully differ but this was like being forced to listen to a cheap cable radio station called the worst of the 90's! edited by daisydai on 02/02/2013 If you read MY thread you would see I was replying to Oopsie. It did not have anything to do with anything you wrote :) If you re read my thread I wasn't complaining about the time of the party but the noise level........ Apparently one of the other neighbours thought so too and called the security to politely as them to turn it down which they did :) edited by daisydai on 03/02/2013
