What's a POA in this circumstance? do you mean agent or landlord's rep? Power of Attorney? A POA would be working on your behalf wouldn't they? Anyway probably best to ask how long it will take aft...
Sorry, I meant the landlords POA, she does all the dealings, we have no contact with the landlord as they are abroad. She often never answers the phone and we have no address for her. My fear is that when we hand over the keys she says she will contact us in a few days about deposit and then we never hear from her again, I have a feeling she won’t answer calls and we jus lose the money or worse she tells the landlord she’s returned the money and keeps it herself - I’d hate her to benefit after being so unprofessional! . My husband thinks we could just refuse to move out u til we get it. It I don’t think we can, legally. Anyone any advise?

Very interested in this post! Lots of good advise on remedies. I too seem to have a fungal infection, presumably from continuous pedicures and also guilty of leaving nail polish on too long :( I have been using 100% tea tree oil on the nail twice a day each day as I read that is a good solution to help try clear it. Fairy Dust, for the Apply Cider Vinegar Soak, how much should you use to dilute, 1 cup Vinegar to 1 cup Water? Does anyone know if you should you also use a Nail Lacquer or just stick with the naturals like the Tea Tree, Vapo Rub, Apple Cider? I'm also pregnant so don't want to go to a Podiatrist who will recommend medication.....hoping to get rid of it naturally - thanks Ladies :)

Thank you ladies - does it matter if you give chilled water from the fridge or should it always be room temperature? Yes, she's already a fan of the cups with straws, not so much the sippy cup! I'll definitely stop sterilising this weekend - one less job to do ?

I had my first baby with Dr. Elsa, but she's left city hospital and her new clinic is pay and claim. I'm planning my second pregnancy now and want to decide upon the dr beforehand. Who's the best at City hospital?? Hi - I would advise Dr Anne Philipps in City, I was also with Dr Elsa in City and think Anne would be the best one to consider - good luck!

Thanks MasCar, so then really she is 900 per visit as she always does a scan - so much more expensive than when she was at City!

Hi Mommypie, I recommend Dr Anwar in City Hospital. I had something very similar during pregnancy and he sorted it all out with safe antibiotics. If you ring they will tell you there is a two week waiting list so just tell them you want a walk in appointment and just turn up, he will see you.....you can ask to be triple booked over the phone or as I said ask for a walk in, good luck! Thank you for the reply Daquiri. I tried to call for appt but no luck. I guess walk-in and will beg as my itching is now unbearable. I'm like a mad woman with this situation. As per my OB my baby is unharmed with this itching but I want to see a specialist to be safe than sorry. Thanks again. You're welcome, hope you got to see him, let us know how you got on. ;-)

Hi Ladies - just a query for anyone that might be currently with Dr Elsa? Previously in City it used to cost approv 400 dhs per visit, now in her new clinic it seems to be approx 800 dhs.....is that for each visit? Seems to be a big price difference, are consultants on their own normally more expensive than the hospitals?

Hi Sunshinegirl, just wondering was your baby born with her head very flat or did it develop? Our son has been flat at the back of his head for a good few months, the doctor didn't seem too concerned but advised sleeping on alternate sides and not having him lying on the floor too much which he doesn't anymore. I wasn't too concerned thinking it would all just eventually come right but maybe it's something I should be more concerned with after seeing your post. Does it always need treatment or do the bones eventually get back into shape? Thanks ?

Hello - just thought someone might be able to advise - my husband has a reoccurring cyst in his inner ear. Who is the best person to see for this - the GP or an ENT specialist? Been previously to the doctor and antibiotics cleared it up but it's come back again, am just unsure whether I am wasting time and money again with GP when really it's an ENT we should see? Thanks ladies!

We sponsored our nanny on my husband's Abu Dhabi when living in Dubai :) Hi Gingercat - so how did you organise medical cover for your maid? Does it mean she is only covered for Abu Dhabi hospitals/doctors? We are hiring a maid and husbands visa is Abu Dhabi but not sure how to get medical cover for Dubai (standard government medical cover)? Thanks!

Hi - if your visa is Abu Dhabi but live and work in Dubai can you still go to the government hospital in Dubai and buy the health insurance card for any medical treatments in Dubai - or does the Abu Dhabi visa mean you are not eligible? Thanks!

Thanks Touimi. Good point on the two tickets....so if you get them to split their holidays into two you give them two flights.....what about if they only go home for one holiday and stay in Dubai for the other, do you still give the value of the flight for their vacation time in Dubai? Yes I'm hiring someone already here, they have left their old job now. We have to sponsor on an Abu Dhabi visa even though we live in Dubai as that is my husbands visa....does anyone know how that works with regard to health insurance.....will she only be covered for Abu Dhabi hospitals under the basic government scheme or would it cost an awful lot extra to get insurance through Dubai? Thanks for the help! X

Thanks, lovingthesun, will look there again :) Is there a particular branch you've seen them at? edited by Sam7 on 04/03/2015 Got mine from Dubai Mall (got some new ones last week in fact)...so far, so adept at holding everything in  Spanx sell their own brand of leggings and are supposed to be very good. I don't think we would get them here though Spanx leggings are on sale in Debenhams - I bought them. And really like them. Nice strong quality, not flimsy and the top comes up high and holds in everything!! ;)

Many thanks oopsiedaisy, that's all very helpful especially the contract link. With regard to the babysitting, I agree, if ever there was an occasion that it was a late night 1-2am) I would ensure she would have a full 2 days off following it - I was just curious to know if people would normally return by a certain time if out. Thank you :-)

Hi ladies, I'm about to hire my first live out nanny/maid and am unsure on a few things: 1. Is there a standard contract that's normally typed/printed and signed by both or where would I find this? 2. She has agreed to babysitting 1-2 evenings per week if required, we might not need her every week but would you consider being out until 1-2am the odd time too late or should you be home by let's say 12 if she can't stay over. (We would obviously pay her taxi home) Also, any evenings mid week I can let her go home early I will, I am happy to be flexible. 3. She did mention about being able to take one month holiday in one go but we explained as we both work it would be impossible for us to get that time off so the most she could take in one go would be 2 weeks - preferably while we are on vacation also, she seemed fine with this but is that normal with other maids, to take one month holiday all at once? I take the view I wouldn't get one month holiday from my job so I would look on this as the same. 4. How much is standard medical packages for maids or where would I go to get one, is there a particular company to use? 5. Is there such thing as probation on a contract, if it wasn't working after 6 months is it a case that you just have to live with the loss of the sponsorship costs and start again ? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just new to all this!

Daiquiri be sure to let us know what you think of the Bellybandit. I'm due my bambino in 8 weeks so think I may invest in a pair of the Spanx leggings too (possibly to wear on top of my spanx & whatever else I can find to suck me in!) ? Hi - only coming back to this now - I'm afraid my bellybandit story isn't successful! I bought a size small as advised in the shop but it never fitted so I never got to use it unfortunately. Bought spanx instead although I think the bellybandit would have been better as there seems to be a stronger support in it. Thankfully though my tummy went down pretty much straight away. I have actually advertised my unused bellybandit in the classifieds (baby section ) for anyone that is looking for a size small - as I said it was never used. Good luck to all with their recent/upcoming babies x

If you are travelling with an infant, these items can exceed 100ml and do not have to fit into the resealable bag. However, the amount must be sufficient for your trip only and you may be asked to open the containers and taste the contents. There are no limits for formula milk powder, and bottled water is available in shops after security. Your airline can provide water during the flight. This exemption to the 100ml liquid regulations can only apply when you are travelling with an infant. In other cases, excess liquids should be carried as hold luggage." That's great thanks, I need to use cooled bottled water that has been already boiled, I presume that will be allowed to bring though (buying bottled water after check in won't be any good until boiled)? Thanks for your replies ;-)

Daiquiri did you decide to get the Doppler Scan? My Dr at City just referred me for one but it's 1550 Dhs, I'm not particularly keen to have an unnecessary & expensive scan done that isn't covered. My pregnancy has been smooth so far & I'm fairly certain I didn't have one with DS1. Also does anyone know a more reasonably priced clinic that does Doppler scans? Is Genesis the same price? TIA Hi Gilly Yes I did end up doing it with Dr. George, contemplated many times cancelling it but then decided to just do it. Was glad I did it in the end as I got some lovely images of baby's face and everything looked good so it was reassuring but really, maybe if I was pregnant again and everything was fine at the 20 week I might not bother, it is expensive and if you're pregnancy is going smooth there probably is no need. Price was AED 1,550 with Dr. George (thankfully my insurance covered it). Good Luck :-)

Thanks for your replies! Well I ended up buying the Bellybandit at the weekend & I really hope it fits afterwards! The lady in the shop convinced me the medium would be too big after a few days and I needed small - I have just under 5 weeks until due date & am not that big so I really do hope it fits! I think the Spanx could be a great idea too - I saw Spanx Leggings in Debenhams at the weekend and think they could be really nice on - however I saw a good few reviews on them that said after two or three wears the seams in the crotch area splits - doesn't sound great as they are nearly 400AED to buy - if anyone has bought them let us know how you found them! The crotch on mine has never split or gone ( I have several pairs which are over a year old) . They are the best out of all the shape wear and I have tried many :-) Good to know SarahLou123 - I think I'll definitely invest in a pair - they do look great!

Glad to hear that, our guy seems good too and is quite senior & high up, not a young sales person. Don't suppose you use the Zurich Vista plan with them? We signed up, keep hoping it will pay off & we haven't been taken advantage of. I do understand they have to get their commission but hopefully there is not a lot of other hidden charges we don't know about and only find out at the very end.....ours is a 25 year plan... Does anyone have any experience with DeVerres? I can only say good things about our guy, but everyone else on here will just put them down. I think it depends on who you're working with.

I had the 32 week scan at Genesis with Dr. George - it checks the blood flow through the placenta to make sure the baby is growing properly - which all turned out to be fine. It also checks the length of the bones and general size to make sure it's on track. This is not a necessary scan, it's optional, I think they just advise you of it in case you want to do it. If nothing showed up on your earlier scans you wouldn't have had to do it :-)

I was told by the staff in Bateel that the Ministry have stopped all restaurants on the Marina having outdoor seating on the walk - to allow more space for people walking and running. I agree - it has ruined it, the seating wasn't taking up that much space - it now looks empty. I think it has caused a loss of business for the restaurants too as they now have less seating....

Thank you Ladies..:) Yes Daquiri, I was on epidural and I'm so glad I had it. I must say you are in safe hands with Dr Elsa my second stage of labour was very long but Dr Elsa kept on reassuring me that I can do it and have a normal delivery. She was extremely patient and positive. I was 4cms dilated and did not progress at all till late afternoon and then by 6pm was 6cms but frm 6cms to 10cms happened like magic with Dr. Elsa's guidance and help and then it was just a matter of 14 mins before I held my lil boy. I wish you the very best and hope you have a safe and smooth delivery. Xx Wow, that all sounds great, glad you got your natural birth and all went well. Good to hear Dr. Elsa was patient and positive about it all with you. Enjoy the rest of your summer with bubs xx

Hi Daquiri, I'm living here since 2003, it is not like Ramadan in Dubai. You can eat in the restaurants, you can drink water or eat some snacks while walking in the streets. Also you can drink alcohol in some of them for the dinner. Istanbul is so cosmopolite and crowded, they can't control everyone:) It won't be hard for you because of the fact that you're a guest in Turkey and it is a matter of culture that toleration and clemency is the main approach of us to our guests. But please bear in mind that there are rude/ bad people all over the world, you can see them everywhere. Eventhough we're an hospitable country someone may come up and say that things like you should respect Ramadan, you can't drink water in the streets during the day.. bla bla.. Say all right and move on.. This is just a possibility for the streets, but for the restaurants you won't face a difficulty. It is just like the other days for us. Considering that you'll be a tourist here, I can suggest you to be more moderate in your old town sightseeings. But for the rest of the places like: Bosphorus shore of the European Side, Levent, Besiktas, Nisantasi, Bagdat Street, Kadikoy you can enjoy yourself.. Hope this helps, if you need anything just let me know: [email protected] Many thanks - this is very helpful :-)

Hi Ladies, I was due to deliver on aug 10th but Bubs had other plans and I delivered 3 days ago! I was induced on 16th morn, 12 hr of labour and after 14 mins of pushing delivered my lil dude at 8.43pm. Dr Elsa did my delivery and if it were not for her I would have defo ended with a c-sec. She is just amazing, guided me perfectly and gave me the delivery I wanted. Baby is doing well and slowly adjusting. So in love with him:) I wish you all the very best and waiting to hear the good news from you all. Xx A big Congratulations to you! Great news :-) I also have Dr. Elsa so it's great to hear a positive story like this - 14 mins pushing sounds brilliant! Did you have an Epidural with Dr. Elsa? Enjoy your baby time :-)

Thanks everyone for the helpful comments :-) It's good to know that you found it easy to breastfeed/express, perhaps I should take a little more time to decide. I am going to be in the UK next week and thought it might be a good idea to buy the pump there as there are a lot cheaper there than here but wasn't sure if it would be a complete waste if I never used it. I have been looking at the Medela double electric pump, I hear it's the best (but of course the most expensive!) Maybe I'm better to try breastfeeding and if that isn't working just buy a pump - I just thought I'd be very tied to every feed if I did all the feeding myself (especially while travelling and on vacation), at least if I was pumping I can get some help with the feeds. I'm new to all this so maybe I'm stressing over nothing!

Do you have to have given your baby vaccines around the 7 or 8 week mark though, just wondering if that needs to be done before you fly? Also, are you allowed breastfeed in your seat on the flight or do you have to do it privately?

Hi, just wondering what people's opinions and experiences are about getting pregnancy massages - I see mixed reviews where people think it's not safe and can trigger contractions if the wrong areas are massaged and then others that say it's fine! I am 22 weeks, no aches or pains just feel like a treat! Which oil is the safest to use (I have recommendation of Almond, Olive or Sunflower)? Has anyone tried Angasana spa Marina for pregnancy Massage?

Thanks Kiwispers, I was prescribed since then Flucloxacillin capsules for 7 days from Dr. Elsa, she says it's fine to take while pregnant so I really hope it is. On day 3 of it now but only see a very slight improvement so far, still a long way to go. Surely she wouldn't prescribe something she didn't think would be safe? The joys of pregnancy!
