Hi Lewis, The beach park is beautiful. I think is't about 5dhs to get in then another 15dhs for lounger and umbrella. But, could be wrong. Can't compare it to Jumeriah Beach as I haven't been there. Can't help with taxis fares...sorry. Also, I think some days it's Ladies only ? Enjoy....wish it was on my doorstep.

Hi Karen, Don't know a great deal about cats but, is it *mating* season (sorry it that's the wrong term) for cats? My Husband said it sounded like he was doing other things ! If so, he might just stray for a while. No expert, just a thought. Good Luck

Apologies, I should have added...She hasn't asked for an increase and probably won't unless she really needs it for an extra evening out with friends. She goes out one evening a week and pays her own taxis/food/drinks out of her allowance. I only asked for advice as we are new here and was curious. Grateful for the replies. Many Thanks

Mine used to in the Uk, a bit of ironing, tidying their rooms helping with dishes etc. But, since moving here, they are so tired after School and homework that they just want to crawl into bed. The eldest does take her brother to the pool, which is a help. They do keep their rooms pretty tidy and still help with clearing up after dinner.

Hi Ladies, Thanks for your replies. Guess we're neither depriving or spoiling our kids...phew ! Have given pocket money ever since they were old enough to ask for things. It's taught them to save and think about what they're buying. Also worked wonders with my youngest upon *misbehaving*, we fined him x amount each week/month. Have got to say, this worked better than grounding him. Thanks again :)

Thank You Cherry ripe, We give 500 per month but is purely to blow on what she likes. Or save it for a *rainy* day. I suppose it's down to circumstances. But, it doesn't go far out here.

Karen, So sorry about your cat. I'm on Springs 12 and heard a cat crying really loudly last night. We went out after about 20 mins because we were concerned but it had gone. We're near the right turn for Springs 15 and 11. Good Luck

Also, if your daughters are School age, check what is required by their new School. Transfer letters, Medical history etc, also have spare passport photos. Good Luck.

My children also started School on Sunday (RIS). They both made friends and enjoyed it. Problem is after School, they are so tired to do afterschool stuff. They just need other kids the same ages to hang out with. Mine are aged 17 and 12 We're on Springs 12 and there doesn't seem to be many other children the same age. Also at RIS, there are only about a dozen *young adults* studying A Levels...year 12 ? I am hoping that people have been away for the holidays and haven't yet returned.

Not a happy bunny....hitches and Glitches said not to use tissue in any toilets !! There was tissue in small drain. They cleared the netting but can't remove it as it's made of steel. Definately need a second opinion.... Can anyone recommend another company ? Should my Landlady have a maintenace contract ? Is she liable, as we are liable for our house in the Uk Hope someone can help :( :( Debbie

Hi Norak, We got Hitches and Glitches out to sort the downstairs drain. The guy said not to put anything down the kitchen sink (which we wouldn't) or tissue in downstairs loo. The washer also empties down the same drain so, maybe fluff could block it ? My landlady just said ALL drains have netting so not to put tissue down any loos. Not an ideal situation, just wondered if I had misunderstood her. Not good if all drains do have netting ? Debbie

Many Thanks Simpleasabc, I meant Choithrams in my earlier post. Might test the water with just a trim first and see what they're like. :)

Hi, My husband has been there for 6 months now. I took the children out for a month in the summer. Even though it was Ramadan and very very hot, the kids fell in love with Dubai. Schools were a problem as my eldest had just started A Levels but, now that is sorted. When researching the Schools, like many things. There are good points and bad with all of them (in the UK as well as Dubai) The accommodation I have had to leave in his * capable * hands. But, the people out there are so helpful and have given good advice. Hope this helps a little Debbie

Thank you DubaiCat and Verdeque. We will be tied to the villa for a year but, heyho, it's all a learning curve. I'm sure it will be fine. BTW, should I get a notification by email when somebody replies to a post ? Debbie :)

Hi, We will be moving from the UK to Dubai in 3 weeks. We have a 17 year old Daughter and a 12 year old Son. They will be starting at Regent International School in January. Does anybody have views good or bad about Springs 12. Or, have similar aged children. Looking forward to hearing from you. Debbie

Thank you Lally, My 16 year old is hoping to study Law. Her predicted grades are all As' and A*s. My son is already in year 7. The School system seems so different out there. From reading other posts, it would seem sensible to sort the School out first, then accommodation. Problem is, we are coming over for a holiday to meet my Husband but, can't come until July...When all the Schools are closed. Stressed Debbie
