They may surprise you - i doubt any family member would say that when you are asking for help. Maybe when you and the children are safe you may get it ;) I agree with Izzy. Call your Mum and tell her what has happened. You may be surprised. I suspect that your parents are in doubt over your intentions as you have stayed with him for so long. If you really want out, then your family will help you but you need to be prepared to leave with the kids

I can only see one reason why a Man would go behind his wife's back to get passports for his children! Think about it hard and assess your options. By the way - which country is here from?

Is your friend's daughter a little on the special side? I only ask this because children are usually aged 5-6 when entering Grade 1. A 9+ year old should be in year 4 or 5. Perhaps she should be assessed as it sounds like she has serious developmental issues. Young children do this but not 9 year olds. I think there is probably need for a chat with a therapist.

Yes , I would be livid. I don't hit my children and I certainly do not expect others to hot them, no matter how horrible they have been. My Dad smacked my son last year ( he was 8) and I was furious. My MIL has also done it and I have refused to send the children to her now. That is really overstepping the mark. There are other ways to punish kids without resorting to violence.

Wow is that true about Islamic loans not needed to be paid back if a house is sitting empty? Thanks you have taught me something today. Rents are going crazy at the moment. I feel that the market cannot sustain this. Our salaries haven't gone up in 3 years Demand drives prices up...we were looking to move and apartments and villas were snapped up at horrendously high prices, like people were 'buying bread'...We kept missing out as they just went so fast... And you really believed that they were actually being rented? Demand drives prices up in the real world, but this is the UAE, and Dubai in particular. Here, prices can be - and are - driven up by landlords just demanding that they will now only accept *this* much. If they have an Islamic mortgage, they don't have to pay it while the property is empty, so they can afford to wait. Estate agents here are famous for advertising properties at attractive rents just to get calls, at which point they pull the old bait-and-switch trick with "Oh, sorry, that one's just been rented, but I've got another one here that's X amount more..." edited by Madge_Gustard on 04/05/2014

If it is the commute that is worrying her why don't you ask her to live in? She can go and see her husband in Satwa on the weekends when you give her time off. I would honestly make this lady work out her contract ( in your home and not living outside) and then just cancel her visa and get someone else. I think she is trying it on with you.

Oh no one can help! I don't think you can switch insurance companies while pregnant unless the new one is willing to disregard existing conditions, including pregnancy. I think the bets solution would be to request that you ask that the provider transfers you onto an individual policy ( rather than corporate) and you pay the bill. If it's a really expensive insurance policy, then once you give birth, you can terminate and switch to a less expensive one

Basically, the OP said her last maid quit and went around the neighborhood tell everyone what a horrible employer she was. Then when she hired a new maid, the other maids in the neighborhood told the new maid what the old maid said - that she was a horrible employer. Now the new maid says she'll only work for the OP for two months while she looks for a new job. What is the OP to do? Oh dear......

derien sorry i did not add every single detail. as she was only with us for one week we barely begun paperwork so she is still currently under her previous employer to which my husband drove her all the way to al twar and let her employer know. he stated he will send her and deport her back... so no i am actually very considerate and wouldnt wish it on anyone.. Oh I see. Well at least you let her employer know. This happened to a friend of ours. Many maids send nude pictures of themselves to prospective clients with a price for whatever tricks they perform. It is a well known system and that is how they make extra money.

I'm afraid I agree with Sanddy_Dogg. People are holding out hope for their loved ones but the most probable outcome is that the wreckage will be found soon. It took 5 days to find the debris from the Air France flight that went down in 2009. It took a further 2 years to find the black box and main parts of the craft at 12,0000 ft below the ocean. It is a question of time.

It has never happened to me personally. But my best friend's Mom had a nasty fall down the stairs of her home while carrying her grandson who was at the time about 11 months old. She trips and feel down about 15 tiled steps. Somehow she miraculously protected the baby from all harm but she had a broken nose, fractured wrist and bruises that were blacker than the night. The baby was completely unharmed. I wish you a speedy recovery. Take care and make sure you see a doctor. edited by derien on 06/02/2014

I've asked around about that and people generally say around 8 although that still seems young to me. Honestly, I'd rather risk offending someone than risk some perv molesting my son. I still take mine in with me and have never had a problem - he'll be 10 in May. I did too. My son is 9 and he is still not allowed to enter the men's toilets. I just can't erase the terrible story of that young Pakistani boy that was violated and murdered in during Eid in the toilets behind a mosque.

I live in the Meadows 6. One afternoon, we were in the pool enjoying ourselves. Then some creepy guy with a long beard rocks up with three completely veiled ladies ( in Burkinis) and his kids. We get out of the pool ( as they were giving us bad looks and I was in my bikini and feeling really uncomfortable anyway) I take 3 year old son and 1 year old daughter to the showers to give them a wash before going home. I turned my back for two seconds and my son ( 3) had taken off his trunks because they were filling with soap. The man went on a tirade against me because my son's willy was showing. He started yelling and screaming that my son was indecent etc. I was so taken aback that I had nothing to say! Usually I am quick with come backs. I just couldn't fathom what this man was so offended about! [b'>What was he doing even looking at a 3 year old's willy in the first place[/b'>. ....... envy maybe? Haha yep probably

Another development that I have seen in action over the last 12 months is the introduction of a hypothetical tax on earnings. This basically means that the company will stop an amount from your salary equivalent to the tax that you would have paid if you had been assessed under you home tax regime. However, rather than this amount being paid to the tax authority, it is retained by the employer. Obviously the impact of this policy will vary from nationality to nationality. Interesting times to be an expat in Dubai... How can they possibly do that? Yes, this is called a Tax Sharing Agreement and many multinational companies are trying to implement this where they have offices in different regions.

My son contracted chicken pox a few days before his 1st birthday party. I phoned all the mums in the nursery to let them know that he had it as we were having a little birthday party for him. THEY ALL TURNED UP to the party in the hope that their children would be next. The teachers at the nursery were duly informed and they asked me to only keep him at home if he had fever. They never banned him from nursery. It is a well known fact that it is better to contract chicken pox as a child than as an adult. Most kids in Europe do have it by the age of 8. The vaccine is not required in Europe because it is not full-proof and cases have arisen where people vaccinated against chickenpox have actually caught it later in life. I think it is a bit unfair of the nursery to do this. They should have a record of vaccinations for all the students and the staff. That way they know what they are dealing with. Most parents I know in Europe would be happy to have their children catch it and would probably not mind an infected child attending. It is also the nursery's obligation to inform all parents that their is a case of chicken pox in the school so those at risk can be warned ( pregnant ladies etc...)

Maybe I'm being a pessimist but does anyone else find it a little suspicious that a man who seems quite actively against having a baby at the moment was OK with giving up birth control immediately after marriage? Does he know something that you don't? His words and his actions are not matching up - he's saying he doesn't want a baby but technically you could get pregnant any day, what would he do then? Hopefully it's because he's not as against it as he's making out, but there could be another reason Yes I agree - it is highly suspicious. Perhaps he has had the snip and just hasn't got around to telling the OP? edited by derien on 09/01/2014

I don't usually comment on these threads but I am shocked. I personally would call the police in a case such as this one. This woman is cold and calculating and has obviously planned the whole scenario. I feel she deserves to be taught a lesson. As for your husband, what a deadbeat! Take your son and start a new life far away from here. I hope you have family to support you.

Hi ladies, Derien, yes, I do have her passport, thank goodness, green but not entirely stupid, ha ha! :-) Horizon, we had no choice but to sponsor as a live out, our house isn't big enough to swing a cat, let alone house a maid, we only have a 2 bed. Because she has been here so long she knows so many maids that don't work at weekend, she definitely isn't working, she is doing a computer course in Deira at weekends (I have checked) which is why she wants the time off, fair enough and as I said it suits us but I certainly don't want to be dictated to regarding babysitting. She is completely playing you. make it clear that you expect X number of babysitting ( minimum) per month and it is up to you what time you come back. Maybe you could offer to pay her transport charges if you come home super late to make the pill easier to swallow. Other than that, if she doesn't like it, let her know that she will be on the first plane out of here..... not waltzing into a new better job... or so she thinks

Thanks so much for your advice Derien, I am so green at this, I am flabbergasted! I gave her 24th - 28th Dec off over Christmas, didn't ask her to babysit NYE (I wouldn't have dared, couldn't stand 'the face'!!) I was clock watching the last time we went out for a meal and was home at 10.30pm! :( Gutted, as DS adores her, she is trustworthy but we need her when we need her, that should be our call, not hers! Agreed. You have pampered her too much. Do you hold her passport? If you don't, you may have problems getting her back in line.

I feel for you. My maid who has been with us for four years also sulked at regular intervals ( in front of my parents in law mind you!) throughout the entire Xmas and New Season. We gave her 25,26,27th off and asked her to come back on the 28th which she did. We had big plans for the 31st so we told her that since my parents in law were here, she could go out around 6pm on the 31st and see the fireworks or attend a party etc, etc but that she had to sleep at the house and work on the 1st to take care of the kids, she went ballistic and has been sulking ever since. I really do feel for you! With regards to what she is asking, you are under no obligation to release her as you can call all the shots as her sponsor. If she wishes to break the contract, then you need to send her home to the Philippines or wherever she is from. Make it quite clear to her that she won't just be "walking out" of her contract easily and that she cannot work for someone else as long as you are the sponsor. Do you have her passport with you? Be strong - I have been hearing way too many stories like this at the moment. It must be the season!

In other countries if a tenant signs a contract for a year, the tenant can't just leave at any point and is responsible for paying the rent until a new tenant is found. This is not unique to Dubai. Of course it's not unique to Dubai but paying a year's rent upfront into the LL pocket is very very unique to Dubai. I have a flat in Switzerland and we signed a 3 year contract with the tenant. He pays his rent monthly and the bank holds a bond & security in the event of conflict which neither of us can touch unless a notary is involved. THAT IS FAIR!

No No No. They are the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with would you mind elaborating a bit? was it the coverage, was it the services? It was both. Their network is very weak in Dubai. They take forever to reimburse and are very fussy about documentation. Their approvals take forever and they cannot process anything outside the box. For some reason most Dubai pharmacies dont seem to deal with Daman And Zahra Hospital, a very well located hospital for most of South Dubai, does not deal with them till now. My husband and son were insured with them and spent half the time driving around different pharmacies in dubai trying to get the medicine ! most of the pharmacies wont dispense if you have Daman Insurance ! Agree. Actually you are treated like "sh*t" by the pharmacies and clinics when you even mention Daman

Before you go jumping in having your son tested for an outrageous sum of money and loaded with every *ia* under the sun, please go back to basics and think logically through the whole situation. What is the teacher like? Some kids just deteriorate with a bad/new/grumpy/uninspiring teacher. What has she done in class to help? Where is your child's self esteem since going up a year group? Is he left or right handed? Look at previous year's work, was it poor, what do the school reports say? Ask the school for a full tracking breakdown over the last few years of his assessment scores. Do you think he has any issues? Boys and handwriting...........notoriously an issue...........kicking a football around is far more fun! He has never been a star student and has sometimes struggled through the grades but he has always met expectations in core subjects and has always had a good rapport with his teachers. His teacher last year was fantastic and she really did wonders with him. I just don't know what it going on this year. To be honest, I am not mad on the teacher. She is a nice lady but I don't think that this was a match made in heaven between her and my son. It is really difficult to hear that your child needs extra help particularly as I thought he was doing quite well.
