A similar incident also happened in Springs 5 about 4 years back only it involved 2 pakistani workers and a 4 year old girl. I am afraid this is common in Dubai

A life without children is one I caould never fathom. Once you give birth to your little gem, you will never look back and wish that you could live your former life. They are part of you and make life so much more fulfilled.

In any other part of the world, the seller would pay the commission. This is a fee from the seller to the agent for brining in clients, marketing the sale of the house and eventually selling it! On the subject of fees, usually in any other normal country, the owner would also pay the fee to the agency for renting the property. This is standard. However I think things are different here! It's always the other way around and it defys all logis as usual

Okay. well if another Mum has also told you that the teacher is saying things about your son, you should definitely confront her. If she doesn't stop, take it up with the principal. If that doesnt work, ask to have your son moveed to another class

My comments are not directed at the OP. As you can see, I tried to help her and my only comment was I bet you won;t do that again. I am not saying accidents don't happen but falls like that can be dangerous. That's why they tell you never to leave a baby on a change-table, bed or elsewhere unattended... ever! It's always those split second decisions, isn't it. I'm not saying I'm perfect either. Mine have had their fair share of accidents...( fingers caught in doors etc) All I am saying is that it is most often than not preventable

This has happened to me...hmmm with both kids I should say...OMG that sounds terrible and makes me sound like the worst mother ever. In both instances it was a complete accident, kids can just surprise you sometimes. Anyways. like you, they both just cried for a couple of minutes and then were completely fine. I wouldn't worry at all. I don't know how people can be so casual about a baby falling off the bed! Sorry... Because it happens! That's why god made them so durable. Yes but it is also preventable.

Go to their other branch -demand a refund. I agree. Go and sit at their other branch and demand a refund. Dont'tmove till they do refund you and make sure you let every customer who walks through the door know what's going on. Do you have the receipt? edited by derien on 30/01/2013

What do you actually forget? I am a working Mum with 2 active children and I also forget things all the time. Seriously, I am EXHAUSTED and I really think my absent mind comes from not enough sleep. My DH doesn't do half the things I do on top of his full time job. I am sure it's just that you have too much to juggle and some things slide. If you are really concerned, get a doctor's opinion :-)

It all depends on how you say it. Just tell her that when she is watching the kids, she needs to watch them like a hawk and that she shouldn't be distracted. I know a maid that almost let a baby drown in the bath because she was busy texting! She needs to understand how dangerous it is. I am sure she will understand. edited by derien on 29/01/2013

Why would you be scared to bring it up? Tell her that when she is working, she is not allowed to text or phone unless it's an absolute emergency. I am assuming she gets breaks etc during the day and goes off to her room at about 7pm. So she can call/text during these times. That's it!

We had an incident a couple of years ago with a Taxi Driver. He picked my FIL up in the Lakes and was supposed to take him to Emarat Atruim Building SZR. He took him to Sharjah and my FIL flipped out and called me. I spoke to the Taxi Driver to guide him back to SZR. He finally managed to do a U-turn in Sharjah and drive my FIL back to the Metropolitan hotel and then back to the Lakes. My FIL was in a state!!!! Didn't even reach his destination. Then the Taxi driver wanted almost 200 AED for the trip. I called the police and they told me to pay and get a receipt then lodge a complaint with the RTA. So I did but the RTA never did anything. Also theTaxi driver insulted me because I was a woman and I was challengng him. Next time, I won't blo*dy pay at ALL! edited by derien on 28/01/2013 edited by derien on 28/01/2013

Sure it wasn't true but funny nevertheless. Wish I could find it lol WHAT??????????????????

always amused by these sort of complaints ... an everage month has 30 days, 1 day per week off makes it 26 days work with working hours of at least 12 hours right ? 26 x 12 = 312 hours per month 2300 divided by 312 = 7.37 AED per hour thats around 1.5 EUR pay per hour ... and people expect them to be educated cleaners, chefs, nannies, servants and gardeners ... Not quite, it's more like 2300 per month in the pocket + accomodation + food + toilettries + clothes, + internet connection + phone card + visa costs + airline ticket home once a year + holiday pay ........ There plenty in Europe ( Greece, Spain, Poland etc) that would be more than happy with a deal like that! edited by derien on 23/01/2013

oh man, great advice!! I love the confidentiality clause aspect and I will sooooo use this in the future. unfortunately I already answered one job's requirement to know my current, but this was to the recruiter only, and its for my second choice position anyways. would it be appropriate to ask the recruiter not to share with the client? or its probably too late for this one? Perhaps ask them to divulge your expectation only, at least then you are being honest and transparent which will help them send/review your profile for the correct roles and the potential employer knows the correct information too A good recruitment agency would only divulge the candidate's expectations rather than the current salary anyway. Agencies are there to help both parties meet in the middle.

To be honest, a company insisting on knowing what I currently earn before making me an offer would set alarm bells ringing immediately, and I certainly would never show them a salary slip. They should be paying you what [i'>they [/i'>think you are worth, not what another company thinks you're worth. As such, your current salary shouldn't be of any interest to them whatsoever. I'd simply hide behind a confidentiality clause as mentioned below by marycatherine and insist on giving your expectations only. What you earned in the past is utterly irrelevant to their future employment of you. At the very least they should respect the fact that you are steadfastly honouring a commitment made to your existing employer. edited by HereComesTheSun on 22/01/2013 I absolutely agree. Alarm bells are already going off in my head. Any reputable company would know what the market rate is for a position andwould have established a range for that position ( Junior, Intermidate, Senior...) and a corresponding salary scale. It is really none of their business how much you earn currently. They are trying to low ball you. As MC said, hide behind the confidentialty clause. edited by derien on 22/01/2013

Also, I don't believe for one moment that the OW doesn't know he's married. Few phone calls in the evening, not being invited to his house... of course she knows. I agree. If she is the "professional woman" the OP mentioned, then she should have half a brain.

This would be my plan: 1. Wait until he is travelling. 2. Pack a suitcase for me & the kids. 3. File a police report against BOTH my husband and the other woman. 4. Go back home. 5. File for divorce. Not suggesting this is what you should do, but this is what I would do. This is the best advice on the board...... provided that the OP is returning to a country that actually treats women on equal footing. I dont want to jump to conclusions, but this couple sound like the are from a more traditional society.... maybe another ME country or Pakistan.... edited by derien on 21/01/2013

I would ask him to move out and start to get on with your lives ( you an baby). If he really loves you both and wants to build a life with you, he will make all the right moves. He sounds like he needs a good shock to the system. Start calling the shots. It's your life and you need to create some sense of stability for the baby too.

I doubt it's not thought through. They have to create 5000 new jobs this year as per yesterday's newspaper for nationals and I know many people including myself who will resign and rather go home than moving to Abu Dhabi, guess which nationality the new hires will be. At the end of the day the new rule only effects AD gov and semi gov entities and they just really don't care much about if the some expats find school places or not. The UAE government do not care about what Expats think. We have not rights here and that is made quite clear from the onset. They are focused on fast growth and promoting their own people. In a way, it makes sense. If Expats are annoyed about the new rule, I'm afraid it's either deal with it or pack up and leave. The mentality will never change. That's how I see it too. But we all know that we are only here for a limited time and have too muve on so yeah maybe it's time to do so. I am not really annoyed and deal with the situation calm as I find one year grace period a fair deal to make my mind of what I want to do now. Could have been worse. And seriously if my country would look out a bit more for their own people I would not complain either. I think they do it smart here eventhough it's a bit weird from time to time to be directly affected by new rules. edited by Nyranee on 15/01/2013 That's right. We are visitors passing through. We have to accept this fact in the same manner that the UAE government must accept that so long as expats are treated this way, a vast majority will not keep their money in banks here, nor invest in the long term infrastructure or get involved in environmental or social issues. The UAE will figure out this impasse soon enough...... But they do. People still invest money here, despite needing only possibly renewable visas, despite this country never counting them as anything more than a head through the revolving door, despite all factors people still can't get enough and simply don't want to leave. And before anyone says "wait, you'll see..." We did see, the crash was the "look, see what happened" moment, and still, people dig their heels in saying "no way we are leaving". Maybe if the neighboring ME countries sort themselves out things will change, but that'll be at least 20-30 years. Expats invest here purely for themselves out of need, not out of love for the country. You will find, even amongst house owners here that people keep their money offhsore, still spend their holidays abroad, don;' get too involved in the larger community, don't bother to learn Arabic etc etc. It is purely for selfish reasons. Money or temporary security. edited by derien on 15/01/2013
