I like their cosmetics very much -- especially their lipsticks as well. I just think they were overpriced here to cover the expenses of opening in a mall etc., whereas, back home, they are sold usually sort of like Avon which keeps the prices lower. That said, I hope they have not closed all their shops and, if they did, hope they find a way to remarket to make them more competitive. Keep us posted on what you find. Don't you find them cheaper than others in malls? I think they were maybe underpriced here and couldnt manage the high expense of mall retail. That or they promoted themselves very poorly. Their products are awesome really. The lipsticks are very natural ...

http://demandeuphoria.blogspot.com/2011/05/when-am-i-allowed-to-hit-someone.html Research has shown that corporal (physical) punishment not only doesn’t stop the behavior it was intended to stop, it produces a host of negative consequences. These studies have linked corporal punishment to adverse physical, psychological and educational outcomes. Researcher Elizabeth Gershoff, Ph.D., in a 2002 meta-analytic study that combined 60 years of research on corporal punishment, found that the only positive outcome of corporal punishment was immediate compliance; however, corporal punishment was associated with less long-term compliance. Corporal punishment was linked with nine other negative outcomes, including increased rates of aggression, delinquency, mental health problems, problems in relationships with their parents, and likelihood of being physically abused. Time recently described a new study published in Pediatrics that confirms the results of many earlier studies, “As five-year-olds, the children who had been spanked were more likely than the non-spanked to be defiant, demand immediate satisfaction of their wants and needs, become frustrated easily, have temper tantrums and lash out physically against other people or animals.”

Children change very fast. A 2 year old is very young and immature and boys have a tougher time than girls sitting quietly and writing and coloring. Also, I imagine a more old fashioned and established nursery will be more fixed in their ways of doing things. Pulling him out of this nursery may be the best thing for him. As someone suggested, playgroups where you are around to keep and eye on him a couple of times a week should be enough to help him socialise at such a young age. My son is 3 and not yet at nursery but he pays wonderfully with other kids. Also consider a smaller and newer nursery the next time when you would like to send him again in a few months

Please don’t do this. It will be excruciatingly painful for your baby. Try tying a rubber band round your nipple until it falls off. God put foreskin there for a reason. Thank you for saying what I wanted to say but could'nt as I did'nt want to offend. I have 2 little boys and its hard for me to imagine a little baby boy going through this... Try to work on a daily gratitude journal- it really works. whenever i stop, i beacome more blah and complacent ..... http://attractingabundancehq.com/carol-look "Lesson #2: The power of the daily gratitude journal I’d heard about gratitude journals from at least a couple teachers before Carol. However, she really pointed about the power behind them and showed me real world results. That is what I needed to take the next step and start my own. Since then the results have been amazing and I highly recommend it to anyone. The basic idea is that you write down about 10 to 20 things for which you are grateful, every day. These could be small or big things. Something like: “I’m grateful for the great weather today!” works great. By writing these down, in your own handwriting, you re-affirm positive thoughts within your mind. Over time, this habit increases your vibration, making it more positive and more powerful. This in turn attracts more positive into your life! The best way to get into the habit of completing a gratitude journal is to set aside a specific time in which you will do it every day. Ideally, this should be in the morning before you start your day. This way, it’s much harder for you to get derailed or simply forget about the task. To take it a step further, you could set up a reward for yourself so that when you complete your journal, you’re allowed to have something you really enjoy.

Hi manu, yes, I do have an Indian passport. Even I heard from a friend recently that husband name is required for baby's passport. I never thought it shud have been a problem as the marriage certificate is attested and all. Am wondering if babysteps can get this done. If it is required, will need to get it done ASAP. its a simple procedure- you dont have to change your name. Its is just to attest the sposes name in both passports. Basically its a stamp on the passport saying your are married to xyz and he has a stamp saying he is married to you. I think you have to sign an undertaking that you are married and submit a copy of your attested marraige certificate

Oh yes and like you and your baby, we also co sleep en still bf, everybody says thats why she is like that. Dont know. Thanks Snowflake12. DH and I are thinking of putting DD in a nursery next year (maybe Jan or Feb) even for a couple of hours so she can see other people. When we were in England 2 weeks ago I somehow got offended / hurt when people were commenting that DD is a ''mummy girl'', ''she always wants her mummy'' and ''mummy syndrome''. But actually there were two people (out of 10) who cuddled DD for more than 30 mins and she didnt cry. I guess DD can sense those people whose intention is to give her affection and not just to cuddle her. :) Its the basic biology of babies to want to be close to their mothers- this is part of our evolutionary biology and completly normal. Do not let other people's completly unreasonable expectations of the normal attachement your baby has for you to make any descions. Both my DS were like this. I got all the comments when I had DS1 (who is now 3 yrs and 2 months old). My inlaws wouls always comment how he doesnt go to any one and how I'm too clingy with him-which i was not - i was just responding to his requirements. Once he became verbal, he became a lot more confident interacting with oter people. Now, he is totally confident and comforatble with new people and I always get comments the other way- wow what a confident child etc. Obviously a small baby will be only comfortable with her primary caregiver who understands her needs before she can voice them.

All of this (the clouds, explanation etc) was discussed and dusted but then just disappeared from the thread, hence my early remark to Appletiser and what I thought was her confusion re the disappearing conversation. I went through the same thing as you last year. Left a villa I loved to go to this **** villa- roots overgrown, A/c's never working- we called the service people every 5 days and still in summer it stopped working when i was sleeping in the night with my then 2 month old... Nobody tells you anything, everything is given to you under false pretenses- the boilers had rust, my kitchen light caught fire....and they would not return the cheques so we satyed out the whole year....I was eight months pregnant with a 21 month old DS when I moved. I totally lost it on the landlord's represntative and they threatened to call security on me.....(yeah right) It was a difficult year but we moved out and are now in a fab place....I wish I knew a way where we could hold these people responsibel for the shoddy **** they rent out under false pretenses to us. I really feel your pain.....What are the clauses in your contract- can you break the lease and move out early? <em>edited by designbabe on 23/08/2011</em>

And what about those poor girls who work in beauty salons? No days off for many of them- 10 to 10 working hours- many of them tell me sob stories and they get to go home once in 3years. As Anon said- there are many many people in the UAE who work long hours for a pitiful wage. My maid saves more than I did when I arrived here 11 years ago and got piad 3000 dhs all inclusives- from which I had to pay for my accomodation clothes food transport and work 6 days a week from 8 am to 8 pm and usually get paid late....I was lucky if I got 500 dhs a month saved after food and expenses.

Also the food they eat absolutely affects their mood. Milk is high in lactose- although it doesnt taste sweet per se- drinking milk all day does not give them the protien and healthy fats they require to regulate their moods and learn effectively. I have always noticed that eating a balanced, less sweet based diets results in less whiny moody kids with my 2. It might be time to cut quite a bit of the milk, let them whine for a day or 2 and they will eat real food. Hunger always wins... <em>edited by designbabe on 16/08/2011</em>

The only reason the opv is still used in India is due to the cost implications involved in providing the safer IPV for free to the entire country. The original oral polio vaccine is not as effective and also has a risk of transmission ( hence they give so many doses) All first world countries have discontinued the use of opv and IPV is much safer ( not a live virus) and regularly given in dubai. you need fewer doses to achive immunity and there is no risk of transmission. Your baby might achieve the required immunity from lower doses- so there is no need to give 7 doses ... You can always check titers before you leave for India to check if you baby has required immunity to be sure <em>edited by designbabe on 16/08/2011</em>

I Think it is legal if: 1. They are married.(Maid & her partner) 2. He (maid's partner) is her sponsor.(As husband and not as employee) 3. He (Maid's husband) gives her (maid) noc to work part time. 4. They(perspective employer) get labor card from min. of labor for her to work as a maid part time or otherwise. 5. In the contract they have to pay her consideration ( some money) & boarding as a perk. (In the contract they will have to mention husband is allowed to stay) Would be great except for the following points: Maid jobs are not governed by labour- so thoeretically anyone on a husband visa cannot work as a "maid" by designation on visa and an employed individual will not be able to hire them under any other designation. The maid's room should not be used by a "renting couple"- especially if the husband is on another company's sponsorship and the maid wanst to work part time in other houses....yikes 50 k fines all around.

You sound just like me after my first DS.... I too didnt get the latch right and was so unsure that I only used sheilds-absolutely the same story with the nurses pressuring and attaching the baby to already torn nipples- ouch. I think your problem is th sheild- it does'nt help in milk extraction properly. At around 2 months DS1 went on a nursing strike as he prefered bottles to the sheild with its poor flow. We did a amjor nurse in where - I was determined to b/f- i tried to latch him without sheilds and this time it worked like a charm. You can try to contact an LC beacuse it should not hurt. Alternatively fixing tongue tie is also a simple procedure. How often do your pump/express and how often do you feed? I would stop the alfalfa to increase milk- you do not seem to need to increase supply at this stage. In order to ensure effective emptying of the breast- it is better to feed without the sheild and i feel it will make your baby a better nurser. I too felt I would never have another kiddo but when the first turned one (and he was such a doll then) we thought we could try for number 2, and 4 weeks later i was preg and 2 years later ......well lets just say there won't be a number 3....

To each his own.. At the end of the day vaccines are there to protect our babies to improve their immunity against really bad diseases out there. People tend to forget what the effects of these diseases are. Most of us have grown up in a time that we didn't have friends with these diseases, so people tend to forget that these vaccine-preventable diseases can be really, really deadly. Oh and by the way designbabe, I also EBF my LO and only want the best for her. Dont we all? We might not always agree on what is the best, as we all have different views. I love that- to each his own and individual choice. Nobody has forgotten deadly diseases but i grew up in the '80's and babies were not dying like flies of epidemics of rotavirus then either and there was no vaccine for it.People laughed off chicken pox as there was no vax for that either. Most first world countries do not mandate rotavirus though there is lot of back end deal broking going on right now to try and include it - however it remains optional for a reason i.e that it is not one of the "deadly" diseases that i support wholeheartedly that everyone get vaccinated for. 27 of 29 first world countries besides the United States DO NOT think Rotavirus is an important enough disease that the children of their country should receive a vaccine for it, even though a vaccine has been available for over a decade. The only comment I have a probelem with is the assumption that a child not vaccinated for rotavirus is a potential danger to other children and can spread the disease....when even a child getting the vaccine can and usually does spread the disease and quite often gets rotavirus too, sometimes from the vaccine itself. All diseases are not equal and neither are all vaccines. Manufacturers produce them to sell them for profit. Parents use them to protect their children. It is our individual right to decide what we feel is important to be given to our children based on our unique circumstances and I don't think equating polio with rotavirus is right as it is not a fair comparison.

I would guess that exclusive breastfeeding PLUS the vaccine would give the most protection of all :), I am glad my EBF son had the vaccine as I've had a few friends with hospitalised little ones due to Rotavirus so I was pleased to be offered the option. There was a recall, I think the year before last, but not because the vaccines were found to be harmful in any way. It is personal choice though, and my son did get quite a high fever afterwards compared to any other vaccine, but still worth it in my mind and I would encourage others to consider it. I'm much more concerned about the recent measles epidemics back home, will definitely be giving my son the MMR vaccine before we go back for Xmas, breastfeeding won't help him with that one. :( I'm not critisizing your choice or anyones for that matter. However, the implication that if some parents choose after whatever research not to have one or more of the many optional vaccines on offer today fro our really young babies, that they are endangering other babies is not a nice assumption espcially since it is not true. Fecal shedding of vaccine virus was evaluated in a subset of persons enrolled in the phase III trials. Vaccine virus was shed by 9% of 360 infants after dose 1, but none of 249 and 385 infants after doses 2 and 3, respectively. Shedding was observed as early as 1 day and as late as 15 days after a dose. The potential for transmission of vaccine virus was not assessed. http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/downloads/rota.pdf from the cdc's own pink book on rotavirus vaccine- all live vaccines shed for upto 21 days sometimes, so vaccinated babies are very contagious and could potentially infect other children- it's not just the children who have not recieved the vaccine. Also in the case of the rotavirus vaccine- as it is live, the mother's anitbodies in milk prevented suitable formation of antibodies in vaccinated infants- but those same antibodies also prevent the infection iteslf. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20442687 It makes logical sense that very high IgA levels of rotavirus neutralizing antibodies in breast-milk, would result in babies not developing high levels of antibodies against an oral rotavirus vaccine, right? The conclusions of a recent study was that lots of studies should look at stopping mothers breastfeeding before and after vaccination, to overcome this "negative effect”. So actually exclusively b/f and the vaccine is not better. It is better to give the vaccine when you are not b/f and then ensure your child does not mix too much with oter babies for 21 days after to prevent transmission .

You are glad she didnt get the rotavirus vaccination? Lets hope your LO does not get Rotavirus and pass it on to other babies. You dont want to put any little baby through that. The rotavirus vaccine is a live oral vaccine which sheds (like the old oral polio vaccine) for upto 21 days - i.e the babies given the same have a greater chance of spreading it to other babies when vaccinated with it. Also, studies have shown that exclusive breastfeeding offers greater protection against rotavirus- a water borne virus - than any vaccine. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20617343 2. H.S. Maranhão, et al., “The epidemiological and clinical characteristics and nutritional development of infants with acute diarrhoea, in north-eastern Brazil,” Ann Trop Med Parasitol, 2008 Jun;102(4):357-65. Yet, a study of Brazilian children finds that exclusive breastfeeding cuts diarrhea cases in this similarly developing nation by a whopping 90% (1 / 9.41), versus a diet of formula and/or other foods.(2) FYI shaf is a strong b/f advocate and her DD is exlusively B/F. Both my DS's are B/f exclusively and my DS1 is 3 and DS2 is 15 months. neither has recieved the vax and neither has had rotavirus. Also the vax was recalled here last year as both strains were contaminated with *** virus http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2827126/glaxosmithkline_recalls_rotarix_rotavirus.html
