Hi Sassi I am turning 40 as well next month and have two boys 7 and brand new 9 :) we moved here last here and had an intense and very rough start to this first expat adventure...all I can say is hang in there..schools are the most horrific part of being in doha and all u can do is try your best on a daily basis. Would love to have a mini celebrate together :) if u r up for it pls do send me your email :) Hang in there..I nearly went home in May this year --- I did go home...but the plan was actually to go for good! Xxx

Lol Tamiwg love ur POSITIVE attitude! And shd we remind ourselves thT the now closed west bay roundabout which I forget the name of ...that junction is due to finished by a very pleasantly specific 2015... Which makes it even more scary....now that we have a goal ...to NOT strive to... :( edited by Dohadizzy on 12/11/2013

Thanks Dan Lou...the problem is these resume sand letters are read by HR people who I don't think have the same attitude as the person the role would report to...I know the skills that come as a byproduct would be hugely appreciated but generally as a rule I feel they look for buzz words right.. .neben though yes I do see tonnes of women here workin on lighter roles than they would back home. But thanks for reply. Will try and give it a shot :)

Today I was stuck for 15 minutes , right outside the gate of my compound . I wasnt even able to GET on the dirt road !!!! Grrrr Noobs this is our situation every morning! A 7 min drive and we thought cos the school is in west bay..we'd be avoiding the traffic from our home in Gharafa...but it takes 45-50 min..and if we (thank God this means my husband) leave earlier by another 20 min to make extra Time for being stuck inside our own gate very morning...he still gets stuck at another point..cos they keep changing the closed roads! We r car pooling..I do the afternoon pickups and alternate with a friend And the days that I don't drive..are days I feel I can actually breathe Which are only 2 by the way but still 2 that that I do not have to fight the mad insane nightmarish roads (what is with these *^#%# drivers????) I keep thinking I would take the no of these massive cars and report them to their owners but of course the owners drive the exact same way:( 2 days ago had a quick coffee with a friend at landmark argot groceries and was out by 10.30 but landmark was a gridlock...at 10.30 in the morning! The cars were at a complete standstill and I couldn't even get out of my parking bay! Makes me so nauseous the thought of stepping out...carpooling provides relief...however then comes the onslaught of constant arguing and shrieking all around the car while u r trying to dodge these manic drivers :) Sigh ladyD sadly as much as I'd love to hide...we have school runs and groceries we can't avoid :( edited by Dohadizzy on 25/09/2013

Hi DebK Half a cockroach??? Ewww eww eww w.and oh we don't get one odd one...we get one everyday...lucky us...and a few through the ac vents which I never beloved when I first read here before ewe moved here last year Freaks me out to switch on the ac now For the ant issue saw a disgusting method of curing the ant problem which I don't think I'd ever use...I am happy to sue the powder as u do...but if u do find it a problem look into this post I read on Facebook Disgusting! But effective they say...and logically it wld work.... There is always one thing you can be sure about with ants, they are forever hungry and are always carrying food back to their queen who hangs out way down in the anthill colony. Knowing that let's give them something that will take a little while to kill them so that they can carry enough back to help kill off the rest in the colony. I just sprinkle a mixture of about 50/50 baking soda and icing sugar around the entire anthill so they have easy access to it and can get it back down to the anthill colony quickly. Note: There may be a slight explosion just before they bother you no longer. Okay I made that last part up. I don't think they actually explode but it does kill them dead, quitely. It's the icing sugar the ants go for but because it's mixed with baking soda they really can't help getting even a little of it and that's all it takes to do them in. The fact they carry it back to the colony means you most likely won't see any ants, alive or dead, shortly after. We found it was best to put out the mixture during dry weather or it may just get washed into the ground. We did it a couple of times, even though it wasn't dry weather and after a couple of treatments the ants didn't bother us any longer. You can just take a small jar or bottle and make a shaker out of it by poking a few holes in the lid and you're ready to take action against the ants and all those in the anthill. So it's quick and easy. : Ants carry an acidic substance with them always for protection. I do a mix of baking soda and powdered sugar in a plastic lid set in strategic places. I think a little volcanic science experiment happens inside their bodies. Over the course of several days, it has made a huge difference. http://webmann.hubpages.com/hub/getridofanthills35

Thanks guys... yes I know how strict they r usually whenever we have gone anywhere across the world ...we haven't bothered bringing back food items for us no matter how much we loved them...but with Ramadan coming thought it would be nice to bring back a little bit of the Middle East for the rest of the family...(this is our first time living outside of Oz) Except how to get through and what to say in customs or did u buy those pre packaged items ..like bateel etc which then lose that charm... :( Will go with whatever I can guess..thanks guys..well this is the first of many trips home so its matter of trial and error :)
