I now realise that hand washing is futile unless the cat is locked away. Just discovered a sock under the sofa bed, a trail/river of water from the kitchen sink to the sofa bed and a cat very pleased with his fishing expedition ;0) (Twice) For the avoidance of doubt it is not me that owns socks that require hand washing...

We've never done gifts or going out for Valentine's Day. Each to their own but in our view it's just a load of commercial tosh. Our wee Valentine's routine is a takeaway cuzaa and bottle of fizz on the sofa ;) Happy days.

I understand what you mean about the helpfulness etc of the staff in Craftland, however, I have done a number of sewing lessons there and the Russian lady who takes them is fantastic. She is also really good at advising about sewing machines and products generally.

There are no rules. If you want it then go for it, but if not then don't. My Mum has been alone since she was 48 and my Dad died- just no interest. Being happy is the main thing- either with or without an OH. ;)

Golly girls. Not going well is it?! Tubestrike- I am really sorry to hear your news :( How gutting for you. Are you going to give it another go? Big hugs. x Nicecupptea- No pressure but it's down to you now!! Everything crossed. x As for me- Today I feel more level headed despite the slight hangover ;) Just cannot understand it. Am going in tomorrow for final test though frankly don't know why I am bothering. Want to line up an appointment with Fakih ASAP to try and analyse why and what can be done.

We are still looking for a puppy, as company for our small dog who recently lost his friend. I feel the same as others though and have never and would never buy from a pet shop. That said, if the pup needs somewhere I am happy to take him on. I won't pay for him but would always pay for vet treatment. We are long term residents in a villa (currently moving house so not actively looking at present but there is no accounting for timing!!). I can be contacted on teabagdubai at hotmail dot co dot uk if you want. Teabag- You sound like a much more deserving cause than us. Hope you get him :)

Rachel- I am really interested in the wee chap and would love to meet him. We thought we'd do it at the end of the year when we move home but if someone needs love now... We have just had a p!ssy negative on an ivf journey so am pretty sure I could talk DH into anything to make me smile at the moment- plus he wants dogs anyway we were just not planning on them yet. SueB- You truly are our Johnny Morris and SO valuable for it :) Your further advice would be much appreciated... We live on the 21st floor (2 bed) and are thinking about returning to the UK in the next say 8 motnhs (so sufficent time to get the whole rabies thing sorted for any pet that came on board now). Never our intention to get pets here- know we want to move home and also the heat not always conducive here. Anyaway long story but we inherited a cheeky monkey of a street cat at the start of the summer last year (DH's first ever pet (they are inseperable)- I grew up on a farm and so just love animals). We want to get dogs whe we move back to the UK but I am moved by this little chap's plight. Are we being crazy thinking of introducing an ex-street cat and pup in an apartment? Walking is not an issue. MTIA ;) edited by dubai71 on 07/02/2011

If you think it might work, email me and I'll work on DH (am in a strong position at the moment!). Have no intention of paying the poor lady concerned (who in my opinion should not have bought from a pet shop here) but would happily give a donation to charity.... Hi girls! No night out for me either - having posted that chirpy 'post retrieval' message I then ended up in bed for four days with mild OHSS :( Anyway, am on the mend now but was supposed to have my transfer today but my embies are not growing quickly enough.. :( Am really sad and won't know until tomorrow (day 6) whether they will do the transfer or cancel it for this round. Trying to be really brave but feel really sad and having felt so ill the last few days just want to cry.. meeting doc first thing tomorrow so hopefully the lazy little embies have got a spurt on in the night! Otherwise i will definitely be having a large night out this weekend to commiserate! Gosh it's a bumpy road hey girls? x Dubai71, how did it go? Hope you got a BFP - sending hugs! xx Nicecuppatea, how you feeling? xx Hey Tubestrike Tis indeed a fu@cking rocky road!! Really hope your little embies pull their socks up. On a slightly separate but related note... does anyone what do they do to the chicken here? It's gross. Bought a 1.6kg bird at the organic supermarket at the weekend, it was delicious but it was AED 130! Finally is it possible to buy non-halal meat here at all (as I do not agree with the halal method)? Maybe I just ought to turn vegetarian whilst here..

I've got, and always have had, a rubbish relationship with my mother (she doesn't see it that way herself). She was 32 when she had me. I hope my daughter has, and will continue to have, a better relationship with me than I did with my mother and I was 7 years older than my ma was when she had me, when I had my daughter. I don't think it has anything to do with age, but with attitude. (Don't mean to be rude, Cyclone T.) edited by simpleasabc on 06/02/2011 That makes TOTAL sense to me :)

[b'>Dubai 71[/b'> - from one '71 babe to another, I think we should stay in touch!!!! What's all this re IVF? Once we're spliced if I don't fall within a few months I'll be looking into that route!! [b'>CT[/b'> - very wise words and very interesting. Look forward to hearing the responses. Just out of interest, how old were you when you delivered yours? (sorry if I missed something, got the age gap between you and your mum & wondering what the difference is between you and yours?). [b'> Laughin[/b'> - nice comment :-) I like :-) [b'>Simpleas[/b'> - hugs xxxx Loopy Lotti- DEFINITELY up for us '71 girls staying together and keeping in touch ;0) Really hope it all works for you naturally. IVF is a very tough road though, of course, if it works it will be worth every bit of it and more..... Think wise to crack on after say 6 months if no joy naturally (at our age and all that) but who knows your little eggs and the OHs little swimmers may just be dying to get together- fingers crossed!!! Please also keep everything crossed for me for tomorrow. x PS What are you doing for your birthday next week? Hope you have something lovely planned. Good evening everyone, I need to get a tourist visa for India - for those who have had it done what's the best time to go to Karama Post Office and were the queues long? Just trying to gauge how long I might need.... Any advice greatly appreciated! I have done it twice (once on a Saturday mid-afternoon and once mid week mid-morning), never had to wait for more than 5 minutes... Maybe I have been lucky but it seemed like a very efficient setup and queue-less.

By this time next week I will have just turned 40 (SOB SOB!!!) and am childless (another huge sob). Reason? Partially due to being a career/party girl throughout my 20's and a career girl/failed marriage throughout my early 30’s. I have since been with my dear other half for 5 years and fell pregnant at the end of 2008 (age 37) ....we were still in the UK and overjoyed!! (for any that recognise me on here I normally post DH as I have been ULTRA cautious from day one of arriving here – if you get what I’m saying?). Sadly I miscarried at 14 weeks back in Feb 2009. Utterly devastated, but finally accepted it's VERY common, especially at my age. Then just 2 months later I was made redundant, then 2 months after that my other half was made redundant (!!) and as a result our wedding plans were shelved due to lack of funds! Within 3 months of both our redundancies we had found good jobs here (wasn’t our first choice but hey, the jobs & financials made sense!!). Now having been here for 18 months (we love it here despite the usual frustrations) we are finally planning our wedding (in between our busy work schedules) for May 2011, and will be at it like rabbits thereafter in the hope of producing a child  So sorry to hijack this thread but the ‘when is too old’ bit really tugged my heartstrings having not yet produced one & rapidly approaching my 40’s . I hope and pray that once we’re married I can fall with no complications and not go through the heartache of another miscarriage  To answer the original OP’s question? My opinion is if you have a brood, no matter what age then enjoy life without nappies, potty training etc etc. If you’re 46 now chances are you’ll be 47 if not 48 by the time you deliver, the child would still be begging you for cash to see him/her through university when you are just about to start enjoying your pension!! Just my thoughts. Sorry this was so long and apologies again for hijacking the thread ……. Just feeling a little bit hard done by on the baby front and hope it’s my turn soon ……….. x Edits due to - making spaces between the para's! edited by Loopy Lotti on 06/02/2011 edited by Loopy Lotti on 06/02/2011 edited by Loopy Lotti on 06/02/2011 Loopy Lotti- you took the words right out of my mouth!! I am 40 in a few months and am in the same boat as you. Wishing you loads of luck with your rabbit activities :) I get pregnancy blood test tomorrow (following the endurance test this is a cycle of IVF) but sadly am not hopeful. Here's hoping 2011 bring us both what we so desperately want- even at the grand old age of 40!! x

Hi. I didn't use Dr Fakhi, but I would like to say good luck to everyone trying. I know exactly what you are all going through, I went through it 11 years ago. I am now a proud parent of twin boys (10 year old). It is a really hard process but think positive and will be thinking of you all. BTW I used Dr Pankesh (Dubai Gynaecolgy Centre, nr Rashid Hospital). I know he doesn't work there now but set up his own practice somewhere. Both Dr Pankesh and DGC were amazing. Good luck x :)

Lakeland (Mirdiff City Centre) had them last week-end. Thanks simpleasabc. Going to take a trip out there this week... only been once before and it took me hours due to wrong turns. Am hoping this time to get there without incident. Did you make it all right? Did Lakeland still have some? If not, you can have mine, I don't really do enough baking for them to be essential, and I've always happily used dried pulses up till now! that's really kind- thanks. i managed to get them at mcc earlier this week. thanks again :)

Sorry, but I just saw your post. Too late, but maybe bookmark this for next time. Since I hate using candy thermometeres n stuff like that, this is a go-to jam recipe that I keep on hand. 600 g fresh strawberries, quartered/pureed chunky if you like 200 g sugar 50 g lemon juice (from one lemon) Combine everything in a medium-size stockpot and bring to boil over high heat, about 5 minutes. Lower heat to a simmer. Cook for another 20 minutes, or until the jam thickens. Remove from heat and let cool completely. Keep in clean jar and refrigerate. This will keep for 2 weeks. I love flavouring it with a hint of thyme sometimes. thanks stovetop- will indeed use in future

Hi ladies, thought i'd let you know i had my retrieval today - it went really well and i produced 10 eggs woohoo! Have spent most of the day asleep and to be honest with you, the hardest thing about it was not having a glass of water.. the procedure was really quick and I knew nothing about it! Great to read your advice Mommy of twins and good luck Serendipity and Nicecuppatea with your retrievals xx Dubai71, how long left to wait now? And did you manage to squeeze in a night out between retrieval & transfer? :) Thinking of you all x Hello TubeStrike Get you, you little hen producing all those eggs. Now we just need them to get jiggy with DH's little chaps and fertilise :) Bloomin' right I managed to squeeze a night out in this stage!! I was on a 5 day transfer and my logic was loads of people would be far worse behaved (i.e. those not requiring scientific help to get up the duff) than we're being at the moment. Have one (or two!) for me! I'm not liking this 2 week wait at all. Nay happy. Getting blood test on Monday. Have done the home tests but got BFN- everyone keeps telling em too early (transfer was Saturday). I really, really hope so. x

or know of anyone that has used him and been successful??? If you use the search facility you'll see lots of relevant threads. I'm with him currently. i am about to use him again this month. this will be 2nd time and i suppose i just need a bit of reassurance that he does do the job for others and not everything is negative. how are you getting on? do you find him TOO positive? dare i ask how your previous experience was with him? successful?? i am currently in the 2ww... yuk!!! have found him to be good but never been anywhere else before (save a single consultation with dr. rima at eve in sharjah who i would not touch with a barge pole) so don't really have anything to compare it to. the hospital in abu dhabi is, as you no doubt know, no quite up to nice dubai standards but i think they are due to open in duabi this month which will be better

does it have to be satwa? i bought really amazing fabric, trendy - what you see in the malls type from Karama. Can't help you with driving instructions but I just said to the taxi driver to go to Meena Bazaar as advised by fellow EW's when I hit the search button. Lots of shops, latest trends. You can ask for 'English style' if you want to be more specific and they have it all. Excellent... no, doesn't have to be Satwa at all. Think a taxi best for Karama anyway so shall head there. Thank you very much!

As for toys, to my cash detriment, I've found (with my cats - your kitty may have more sophisticated tastes than mine ;) ) a box - any box, or a paper bag (the ones you can get when you buy at certain shops) are ALWAYS a big hit. Having said my cats are unsophisticated - I have had success with one of those strings with a toy at one end tied to a stick. My neighbour just bought a string of gold beads (like you might use on a Christmas tree) and her cat will play with that. One thing nearly all cats like is cat grass - you can buy a small container in the pet section at LULU and it is called cat grass, add water, and grow grass. I have one that I have to keep in a closed off room otherwise one cat would have it all over the room. In fact, I discard the container it comes in and actually plant it in a flower planter. They love it. My cat's "thing" is wine corks (cannot imagine how he has so many...!) and Tunnocks caramel wafer wrappers screwed into a ball. He will happily fetch them for hours. Just means I have to drink more wine and eat more Tunnocks- hard job...

Dubai71, do you mean the one that is very near to the Seaworld restaurant (my personal GPS is based on food)? Hmm not sure, think Seaworld is the other side of SZR. If you are going over SZR from the Madinat (ie going to Barsha), then MoE is on your right as is LuLu. Do a u at those lights and there is a pet shop in on the right. Not saying it's great but the best one I have found.

A quick update for you, puss was back at the vets this morning for a checkup and to see if she was well enough to have a general so they could dray her legs. Unfortunately the vet still isn't happy her lungs are perfectly clear so we've postponed it for a week to see if she improves enough to do it then. She's quite happy in hassle and as sweet and loving as ever she just needs some rest. We are knowing keeping her in or only allowig her out when we are here to watch her. SamD my evening involved a little too much vino but was much more than the previous one thanks :-) x Ps can anyone recommend a good place to get pet things pls (I'm new to all the pet care :-) ) edited by AndreaA on 02/02/2011 Gee whizz- poor wee thing. Please keep us posted. I cannot remember the name of the pet shop where we've got some stuff but.... if you're going east through Barsha from Safa Park (with MoE and LuLu on your right), it's on the opposite side of the road- ie do a u at the lights as if going to the traffic place and then in on the right. Sorry, directions are not my strongest point!

OK so I am 4dp 5dt and have just done a home test and got a negative- boo. Looking on the internet it seems there are 2 schools of thought: (1) lots of people say that this stage may be still too early for a positive result and so it doesn't necessarily mean I am not pregnant; (2) seems like a lot of people get positive results from home tests from today. Is school of thought (1) just trying to eek out some hope when realistically there is little chance? If there is any chance that I am pregnant, does it mean it's unlikely to be multiple given the negative response now?? Any input from you ladies out there with IVF experience would be most gratefully received. In the meantime, can someone please just knock me out until my clinic test! What I wouldn't do for a nice glass of anything alcoholic right now (even at this time in the morning!) :(
