Wow, thanks! I guess I'll just need to hunt around for FryLight or Pam Spray and find alternatives for the rest. I found Total fat free yoghurt but for some reason the Muller Light with vanilla and chocolate sprinkles just has the edge over it ;). I'd love to be able to set up the whole Slimming World thing over here but at the moment I think it'd just be too much effort, to put it bluntly. I do have the online app to check Syns but sadly it's all UK brands, so I'm relying on the basics info instead. I already meet up with a great group of fellow slimmers once a week but I'd be happy to host anyone who wants to follow Slimming World at my house on a weekly basis, too. I'm only just starting out so I have nowhere near enough knowledge to really teach anyone how to do it properly but I do have the books and can access the recipes etc online! I live in Al Waha, behind the Ranches.

I have found it so unbelievably easy it's untrue. Hence my sheer despair today in the supermarket! What's Pam Spray and where can I get it?! Thanks! I wonder if I should email SW about setting up over here...

DC - I've been umm'ing and amm'ing and SW for a while now, but DH is not convinced?! Convince me please so that I can convince him ;) And are the meals okay for a toddler? DD eats whatever we eat, so it needs to be nutritious for her too! Welcome back :) Thanks :). I wasn't convinced for ages, even though my sister lost so much weight doing it, because you get to eat pasta and potatoes and I just couldn't work out how you lose weight eating that kind of thing. I have all the stuff with me so let's meet up and I'll go over it with you. My two both eat everything I cook on it!

We got DD's British one in about three weeks back in February. You can't get it done in the UK unless the person applying for the passport is physically there when the application is made :(. But I'm sure I read on here someone was able to get an emergency travel document for their baby to leave the UAE and go to the UK then get their passport there.

I was 57kgs when I arrived in Dubai (granted, that was 11 years ago but still!) and about 67kgs just pre-pregnancy. I put on about 30kgs with DS thanks to stuffing my face, being an inactive lump and killer water retention from pre-eclampsia. I lost 21kgs in a few weeks after delivery and managed to get back down to 69kgs when DS was 8 months. Then I stopped breastfeeding and put on a few kilos. Then I got pregnant with DD at about 73kgs. I put on about 20kgs with her, same reasons as above. Got down to about 76kgs. Then Dad died and I went back to the UK and the local curry house became my best friend, along with the bakery section in Waitrose. Then I joined Slimming World back in the UK and lost 7kgs in six weeks. I've put a kilo back on in the past couple of weeks thanks to a bit of over-indulgence at weddings and the like, but I'm confident it'll come off again in no time. I feel totally in control of my weight loss and I know I can lose another 15kgs by Christmas, by which time I want to be at my target weight of 60kgs. I know different diets suit different people but I have the utmost faith in Slimming World and I'm so glad I started it. My sister has lost 42kgs following the plan so far, and is on track to lose another 15 to get to her target weight by Christmas. <em>edited by DubaiCat on 07/09/2012</em>

Thanks :). I just realised I didn't actually answer your question! Yes, when he woke in the night and it wasn't 4am we did the same - sat next to his cot and patted him/sang to him/whatever but didn't pick him up or feed him. Basically we were trying to break the association between feeding and getting back to sleep, so he could get back to sleep by himself. Good luck and I hope it continues like last night!

Hi! Sorry, I only just got back to Dubai after the summer and just saw this. Of course I don't mind, and I hope I can help! Because I'd been feeding DS every time he woke, so literally 10-15 times some nights, we were advised to keep going with at least one feed in the night for the first while. So we were to feed him at 4ish if he woke then, which he did for the first few nights. After a week max, he stopped waking at 4ish and just slept through till 7 from his dream feed. It all depends on how old your baby is, though, and whether he really needs feeding during the night. I'd say you'd probably be best to check this with your paediatrician before you make any decisions on this one. Ours in the UK said [i'>most[/i'> full-term, healthy babies don't need night feeds after six months but it really is individual to each one and they can't simply say a blanket 'no feeds after dream feed' for all babies. DD was a month early, and much smaller than her brother (not to mention later to start weaning) so we continued with night feeds much later for her than for him. I know Cecile is a bit like Marmite on here but I found her a Godsend with sleep - I was so sleep-deprived I was teetering on the edge of a complete breakdown - and she does tailor her advice completely to each individual so it might be worth a chat with her to see what she thinks.

A friend of mine was running around Safa Park a couple of years ago and was accosted by two local ladies who objected to her shorts and tank top (a proper fitness one with wide shoulders, not spaghetti straps). They herded her over to a nearby policeman, who promptly told them to stop being so ridiculous and leave her alone.

And one more thing (I was going to edit but I thought I might confuse myself, never mind anyone else). Don't overcompensate for your elder one having to share you! I made that mistake with DS and his behaviour went downhill literally overnight. He went from being a typical toddler - cheeky and a bit naughty but not awful - to being a horror, simply because I was letting him away with murder as I felt so bad he wasn't the only focus of my attention any more. Once I re-established firm boundaries and stopped thinking I had to somehow make it up to him for having his sister, he felt far more secure and his behaviour improved no end. If anyone has any suggestions about what to do now he's being a horror to get my attention because his sister is now 8 months and far more interactive, I'd love to hear them ;).

I've found having two tough as well and one thing that hasn't helped me, ever, is people telling me how much tougher our mothers and grandmothers had it ;). I know they did, and hats off to them - I can't imagine how they ever got through a day without either bashing their heads off the wall or resorting to the gin - but that really doesn't make it any easier for us when we're in the middle of it. And it doesn't make us feel any better, either. Every time I say anything about how hard it's been, my mother starts on about how she had three of us under four in a foreign country where she didn't speak the language and she had to drive everywhere because Dad's licence had been borrowed by the Queen and it was -25 outside and.. and... and... I think you'll get what I mean! All it does is trivialises how we're feeling and makes us feel worse; we ought to be supporting one another and sometimes, all that means is a little empathy. Sure, most of us have the life of Riley compared to 50 or 100 years ago. But if saying,"Jeez, I know - it's a killer!" makes another mum feel a tiny bit better, isn't it worth it? And we all know we're going to be fine. Because at the end of the day, we'll have to be - what's the alternative? Send them back for a refund?! I don't mean to offend anyone with this post at all and I hope it isn't taken as a moan! *slinks off to pretend she is coping admirably with a toddler and a newborn because h3ll, why wouldn't she be?! It's peanuts compared to what Mum had to deal with!*

Hi, and sorry it took me so long to see this - I'm home in the UK at the moment and solo parenting so I don't often get time to log in! I was very happy with BabyCare. They shipped the Bee+ to me in about two to three days, boxed up in the original Bugaboo packaging same as if I'd bought it myself, and it arrived in perfect shape. They use DHL (or something like that) so it's a proper courier service. All the parts were there and all the instructions. Highly recommended! :)

Thanks, SD and Marroosh. I haven't been on lately so apologies for the delay in getting back to you, Mmmmm. I saw Dr Delphine Dupuis at MediCentres Motor City initially. She's a GP/family medicine doctor with a particular interest in women's health and she's very, very kind and sympathetic. She can then refer your friend to a psychiatrist but I'm afraid I can't recommend the lady I saw, a Dr Hassan. Perhaps seeing Dr Delphine would at least be a start for your friend though. If she wants to talk to someone who's been there, I'm happy for her to email me on harpersdxb at gmail dot com. Dad's funeral is on Wednesday so I may not be able to get back to her straight away but I'll do my best.

Thank you all. Dad's life support was removed shortly after midnight - he struggled on for almost two hours but it was as peaceful as it could be in the end. I'm devastated. The only small comfort we have is that hopefully his kidneys can be used for others. The transplant team are going to let us know if they were able to remove them safely.

Hi all and as AP says, I'm so grateful for all your lovely messages. What a day. I think I might have been a bit confusing when I was messaging AP earlier. Dad's still on life support but when the doctors did their neuro function tests while we were with the organ donation co-ordinator, he showed some responses - whereas previously he'd shown none - so they decided to wait another 24 hours before they turn it off, just to see if his brain function improves at all. If it does then they will consider replacing the breathing tube with a tracheostomy. We're a bit in the dark about it all, though, because the consultant this morning said the best we could possibly hope for would be him living in a care institution with severe brain damage and due to that they didn't want to do the tracheostomy. Of course we were far too frazzled to ask any questions this evening so we'll have to wait until tomorrow to clarify things. I'm off to bed. I'm absolutely wiped out. Thanks again for all your good wishes. x

I took Seroxat while I was feeding DD. I saw Dr Delphine at MediCentres Motor City as she's a lactation consultant as well as a GP and she is a mine of information on such issues. I also saw Dr Hassan there, who made me feel like the worst mother in the world for continuing to feed once I began taking the medication. Ask away with any questions :). Or you can email me on harpersdxb at gmail dot com. Apologies if I don't get back to you either on here or on email straight away.

We just met with the ICU consultant. Not good news. He is too ill to survive without a ventilator but they don't want to do too much that's invasive as he will likely be severely brain damaged if he survives. So, they are going to put him on a ventilator for a few days just to give him a chance. If any other problems develop then they'll take him off it and let him go, and then after a few days they'll take him off it anyway and see how he goes but not do any more if he goes downhill. Just numb now and don't really know what to do.

Do check with your agent if they're charging a 'marketing fee', as this could be incorporated into your annual rent without your knowledge. This happened to us last year when we rented ours out - the tenant was told a higher rental amount than we were asking, and we were told the rent cheque was higher as she wanted her company to pay the commission so we would then have to give the agency the difference. What they actually meant was that they'd added an extra amount on top of the rent we were asking and were basically getting the tenant to pay commission twice. This happened with a British agency.

Thank you all. It means a lot. I spoke to his doctors yesterday and they were talking about 'if' he makes it through the next few days. Sadly his overall health hasn't been good for a long time and he has chronic lung disease, so this is hindering his recovery. The best they can say at the moment is that he's relatively stable under the circumstances. DH and the children are on their way from Heathrow, thank goodness. Thank you Claire, we're in Somerset so a bit away from you! But I do really appreciate the kind offer :). xx

No. It seems you're only allowed to have an emergency on a weekday, because if you have an emergency on the weekend you have to wait till Sunday to get an emergency travel document. And there's no emergency contact at the British Consulate/Embassy in the UAE - you get put straight through to the FCO in the UK. Some service that is. So I had to come back to the UK by myself, and DH is still in Dubai with our children (2 and 6 months). He's going to the Saudi embassy today to see if he can get hold of his passport, and if not will come tomorrow night once he's actually managed to get it back. Dad had a brain haemmorhage yesterday. He came through the surgery which is a miracle in itself, but we have to wait till Monday to speak to his surgeon and see what's next.

Hugs to you. Not an enviable position to be in. I've said before on here if I ever found myself in need of a doctor in this specialty, I'd be heading straight for Dr Houriya Kazim. Her clinic is above Allied Diagnostic on Diyafah Street and if she isn't the most understanding, empathetic woman you've ever met (doctor or otherwise) I'll eat my laptop. I interviewed her for work and I was blown away by her compassion for her patients.

Super, thanks! I emailed the landlord and offered him 120k for one cheque and 125k for two. His secretary emailed back and said they won't take less than 130k as 140k is the going rate (I guess he hasn't contacted RERA recently) so she'll 'try and negotiate' 130k for us but that'd be in one cheque. Er, no, sorry buster! Four cheques is the default if landlord and tenant can't agree, according to RERA.

Thankfully the last set of agency maids we had pretty much bashed it up, so I'll be getting a replacement - and a totally different brand - next time I'm near an electronics store. You need to send either your passport or your DH's along with the application, and it needs to be the original full-size A4 one (not the smaller A5 copy one). You also need to include copies of both your passports, and on the copy of the credit card holder's passport the card holder needs to sign it. We did ours in Feb for DD and it didn't take long to come back at all. You still have plenty of time if DS is only two weeks :).
