What budget do you have? The 3 bed apartments here in Layan are 120k I believe. *Sheepishly types her budget*.... For a 2 bed plus maids or 3 bed were hoping to pay maximum 95k!

http://www.camelicious.ae/en.html This is the make that they stock in most supermarkets. This site should show you the correct calorie values :-) Exactly what I was looking for. You're a star thank you :)

lol yes MASSIVE change but were thinking of baby no 2 so savings are important right now! DH has his own car and I have my own but I dont think my TT will manage a hardpacked path very well but I could give it a go. On google maps it didn't look so bad in terms of its placement but from what I'm reading now it seems like a very long way away from anything! A part of me is against it but a 3 bed for those prices is just too good.

Thanks for the replies ladies. Its for 10 month old DS who has CMA. He's on neocate but I was considering something more natural if it can provide enough calories. I'll have a look in the supermarkets. They should give kcal info on the bottles.

Sorry no there is not! It is right out on the 611, nothing much out here apart from the odd Camel... Darn it! Thanks for getting back to me. The apartments look great for the price but its going to be total deal breaker for our maid who doesn't let one weekend by where she doesn't go AD. Maybe I could drop her off somewhere nearby where there may be busses? Hows remraam by the way? On google maps it shows you have to do a long youturn loop on the way out. Is this really the case?

I've done the SAHM thing and the working mum thing and the just working and being single thing. All are jobs and bl00dy hard work. Here is a FB status from my maternity leave days: [b'>"My last week as a stay at home mum and housewife. If anyone thinks this is not "work" they best think on. Today I have taken XXX for jabs, made the bed, washed up twice, sterilized 8 bottles, done 6 feeds, changed 5 nappies, bathed baby, made dinner, ironed 48 items of clothing, done 2 loads and hung out the washing. They don't call it house "work" for nothing."[/b'> So Pikachu I don't mean to toot my own horn or make anyone feel inadequate but a lot of the threads on here are very critical of the working mums and that's not entirely fair. Everyone should be proud of their contribution whether that is working a 10hour day in an office or doing the above (which was on one of my particularly productive days - obviously the remainder of the time I was having my nails done and "doing lunch") ahaha! .. Or on EW. ;) Your job sounds fantastic. Great pay. And you get to hang out here all the time. lol!

Right. Next time, I will say, "TDB, you are great, wonderful and a perfect parent ... but you might consider putting your child first?" I can't work out how going out in the evening when your child is asleep is somehow not attending to their needs or doing them a disservice. Why do you think it is Quinn10? Likely because this is what Quinn10 has been led to believe all this time. Please dont hate because somebody is mature enough to identify they need adult time for their marriage. So many mothers totally forget they are still wives as well and don't understand when their marriage falls apart after years of neglect for their partners.

I dont like to disrupt my sons routine at all and if we do we pay the consequences. I don't see why I should drag him out to get the chores/monthly groceries and such done? Once he is fast asleep me and DH go out and do everything we need/want to. Most nights it will be spot shopping for him but if the maid tells us hes fast asleep and has not been stirring we will take advantage of that and have some dinner out. I was raised the same way and I can tell you i appreciate my parents not lugging me around stupid o clock just because they want to go out and wont arrange adequate care at home.

To answer your question. I'm a stay at home mum and DH works. He usually doesnt get home till 8pm. By the evening time I just need some time out even if its just going for a drive. Once I have bathed DS, read some bed time stories and rocked him to sleep me and DH will usually go out. Not necessarily a date it could be going to get some groceries, baby shopping for DS or having dinner out. We are lucky to have an amazing maid and a very trusty nannycam which is usually one beside us on the dinner table :D

Thanks ladies for the advise. Its not for me its for DH. I think hes chosen to do an MSC instead through distance learning. The CIPD requires you to dedicate 4 x 5 days full time and thats just not possible for him with work commitments.

Wouldn't you need to take them as soon as most of their teeth where through? Yes. You should take them even from when a few teeth pop out. I'll be taking DS from 1 year old. Hes certainly have about 4 by then.

For her baby you could pick up some tiny baby clothes from mothercare and some premmie nappies. I was expected DS to be so small and I hated being left alone while DH had to go out shopping for suitable clothes and nappies. For her you could pick up some relaxing body bath sets. She'll be stressed in NICU so when she's forced to go take a shower she can relax with some nice products.

I have no idea why anyone should find this their business. Ever. Because when you are a parent you care. Not only about your own child(ren) but also of others. Children don't know how dangerous things can be! Why not channel all that care towards your own child(ren) edited by Dubai_City_Chick on 06/02/2013

I think what people mean by that is that to have children means giving up pretty much all of your freedom especially in the beginning and if your not someone who wants to give up their current lifestyle then it wouldn't be the right thing for you.

I work extra hours all the time and I am not paid for them. I am systematically called in when they need me or called to Saudi at the last minute. Argh.... DCC, Maid contracts do not fall under the labour law you know. It is an entirely different thing. Ahh sorry I thought what you did was employment and what the maid did was employment. Must be mistaken. Both are employment indeed but not the same category of employment as per the UAE Law. Until this changes, I am not doing anything "outside the law" if I don't fix an OT rate for my maid or give her the notice she is due. Voila! Its funny how quickly people who come here forget their roots.

I would not discuss the following with a maid except to say that they will all be decided upon depending on the circumstances: Holidays, Days off for Xmas, Eid etc Notice periods Overtime I agree with the above100% Really? Would you also agree if your employer told you the same?

I am due to give birth to my second child in a few months. My mother is visiting again and I would like her present at the birth. I am delivering at Medcare Hospital (opp Safa Park). My doctor informs me I can only have one person present during the labour. My doctor said the same thing last time I gave birth. Just want to ask, is this correct? Sometimes they allow a second. Depends on your reasons.

I've kept the display off since then. One of my fav album though, love love love it. We must be the same age. Dr Dre's The Chronic was one of mine!!! I think were all the same age here unless I was exposed to this music really young!

I don't think its a decision that can be made through a list of pros and cons. The real reasons to have kids are intangible, basically because life is just more fun when you share it with others. Words can't really describe how it feels to love somebody so fiercely, so unconditionally and with the whole of your heart and to know that you are their world, that they think you can do anything, it sort of makes you feel like a super hero, and then, when you wonder if you could possibly love a second child as much as your first, you have that second child and your heart doesn't divide, it multiplies. [b'>[/b'> I absolutely miss my old life, I miss the freedom, the spontaneity, having complete ownership of my body....I do not enjoy every moment of my day, I but even at the darkest moments if you were offered that life back, but it meant not having your children you wouldn't even have to think about it. Being a mother gives you a sense of purpose, I feel like raising my children is the most important thing I could ever do. Before I had kids I didn't know it would feel like that, I was worried probably for the same reasons you are, but I did know that when I cuddled a 4 year old or held a tiny two year old's hand in mine that I felt like I was missing out on something important. I think you would know if you didn't want kids and if you feel that way, then its better you don't have them. You can certainly live a happy life without them but if I look back at my old life, there were so many good aspects of it, but I didn't have nearly the same level of love in my heart. I guess you do it for the love. Funny you mention this I was talking to DH yesterday about our second baby and I was saying to him I love DS so much he has my entire heart how will I give a part of that to another baby? :D

I dont think anyone here can give you the answer your looking for. This really is something you need to figure out yourself. Yes when your 65 you may regret not having them but if you dont want kids now do you really want to wait till 65 to feel good about it? Too many kiddies out there in families where the parents weren't ready for it. Its your choice. Good luck.

My DS also hates being in the car and so did my DD until she was 8 months-old. You just have to learn to tune out the screaming. I know DH says this all the time but I'm still so sensitive to every cry. I sometimes even find myself annoyed at how easy DH can take it when DS is screaming in the back :( Men can switch off. Perhaps play some soothing music that LO may like I cannot imagine you are in the car for too long So many people here use that excuse for not strapping kids in and having them on their knee front and back No no we'd never do that. He always goes into his car seat no matter how short the journey. I just wanted some information on car seats in the front because back home (UK) thats not legal but so many people here do it. Then again so many people here do so many non legal things!

There was a thread on this recently: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic198086-is-it-allowed-to-have-small-baby-on-front-seat-in-dubai.aspx?Page=1 Have you tried putting a mirror facing him so he can see a bit more than the seat back? Or some carseat toys to play with? Any music he likes? I hate using the term but as many people have put it DS is 'high needs' ? and no matter how many toys he has in the back or even the maid playing with him he wants me or DH. When I'm in the back with him he isnt so bad. I was hoping by now he would have become used to his car seat but I guess not.

A life without children is one I caould never fathom. Once you give birth to your little gem, you will never look back and wish that you could live your former life. They are part of you and make life so much more fulfilled. Really? I know I look at DS everyday in awe he certainly completes us but through all the late nights and disciplining do mothers here never miss their baby free days? I must be the only bad parent...
