I didnt realise asking people to tie a knot on their rubbish bags was such an extravent request. I thought it would come as normal practice to most. Would you leave your bin bags un sealed on your front door for your rubbish bin man back home? I certainly didn't realise I should 'suck it up'. I'm not asking for me. I was requesting for my LO who really needs the extra sleep right now.

I have a sick baby getting disturbed all day long. I dont think its funny or anything to suck up. I dont think my request is unreasonable or maybe your one of those residents who has no care for their neighbours. With the best will in the world there will always be something with the potential to cause disturbance to those who dont need it. I think, and I do understand what with my boy, that if we have particular requirements as to how others around us should live - then its up to us to chose the correct place to live in the first instance in order to minimise disturbance. I would imagine that human nature being what it is, that an apartment wouldn't be an ideal place to live with a sick baby who needs considerations. We moved here when I was still pregnant. so it was a case of thinking it would be ok, then finding out its not. Is there anyway you could move at the end of your lease, not just for your little ones sake but also for yours because none of this can be doing you any good either. I imagine you're trying to get him to sleep or he just went to sleep and then all **** is let loose in the shape of an open bin bag coming down the chute. Also, as MC said, others are perhaps having to live with your little ones crying which and its more than what could normally be expected I think it would get to them after a while. That isnt good for you either because you must think about it at times and I know when my son would be doing what he did best ;) I used to be a nervous wreck thinking about the neighbours. Oh no DR we had no idea of the noise before we moved in. In fact it didnt start till a good 2 months into us being here. We would have never thought it would be ok if we had heard it then.

one of the reasons why I wouldn't choose an apartment...conversely, nothing more annoying than a crying baby above or below you so at the risk of sounding unhelpful, life is mostly a case of give and take.. i'd try the white noise suggestion - supposed to be great for getting babies off to sleep..but otherwise I don't think there's much you can do.. A sick baby I cant do anything about but console. On the other hand 13 floors of people being disturbed because somebody doesn't have the common sense to tie a knot on their rubbish bin is clearly avoidable.

I was really young when I watched a documentary on the rosewell conspiracies and although it shouldnt have been much to scare me I still had nightmares for ages! Sorry your DD is going through this. All I can say is that going through these stages of life, feeling and understanding fear for example is all a part of growing up. Before you know it she will forget all about it. Till then you could have some mummy/DD time with some funny cartoons, popcorn and a chit chat about 'happy memories' to cheer her up. Good luck!

Thank you Appetiser and Fairfield. I've only ever lived in apartments in Dubai but this is the first time I'm having this problem and its really very loud. Somebody complained some time back, notices went up and the noise vanished. Now its started again. I've already complained to DIRE who will be putting up notices and knocking on doors to speak to people personally. Hopefully whoever it is will soon start closing their rubbish bags.

Yeh you seal a bin bag and chuck it down not chuck it down the chute opened so everything pours out on the way down and makes so much noise. Clearly thats common sense ?

I've said it before and i'll say it again. After trying insurance providers such as BUPA, DAMAN etc I will now never shift from our RSA insurance. Absolutely fantastic.

Thats because DAMAN have been running a special promotion in which they give your child free medical insurance till your medical insurance expires. DS was also covered for a good few months free of charge when I was on DAMAN. This is not their usual practice though so best to check in advance.

Who is your appointment with? I have found peels to be really worth it. I started off with light strength which was really enough for me. You will be really pleased with the results. Granted, I have never had one outside of europe or the states so let us know who you chose and share the information! yes, not as exciting as maids but less likely to be deleted :-) Ah I got a reply! What strength did you do the first time round? I'm tan skinned so I dont want to go too high. I'm going to Dubai Cosmetic Surgery in Jumeirah.

think it would be much better just to eat healthily. Cut bread, wheat, sugar cut down on fat, dairy cut out processed foods. Do more exercise. Most of the above I already do. Exercise is tough because of my back though. I've always struggled with weight loss perhaps due to pcos and thyroid issues? Either way it will take alot more to save me!

Hi lou86 Just to offer an alternative, I've never found going to classes a easy fit around children etc so I have an exercycle at home. Soon as the children are in bed I do 15kms. It makes it much less boring to do watching TV or listening to music and you can also do spinning class type routines to mix it up a bit. I would love to get one. Spin cycling is so great for weight lose. But I can just never get my butt on that seat! :(

I dont check our maids room but she doesnt have a lock on the door and during the day keeps her room door open. DS goes in there, the cat roams around in there and if I need her I walk in as well. Shes kept an open door policy without being asked and for that reason it doesnt seem she has anything to hide.

Absolutely gorgeous kittys! Please be VERY careful when finding them a new home. I personally wouldnt give them up for adoption. There will be too many lunatics with no idea of how to look after an animal who will try to convince you otherwise just for the sake of the kittys being for free. Sell them at a high price. At least that way you will have only those who can afford and know what theyre doing contact you. Hopefully.

Why does anyone rely on taxis? we know that they are unreliable and useless. If you need to rely on a taxi then at least fine a semi decent one and get his mobile number. Exactly.

Why would you waste your time booking a taxi here? Its much easier to go looking for one. Because not everyone lives on a road or area where taxis frequent? edited by Sakhifa on 08/01/2013 Yet 90% of the time the end result will be going out and looking for a taxi.

Also not been to Bandos but in my uni years me and DH (BF at the time) visited Kuramathi Island on all inclusive and will also agree it was one of the best holidays knowing everything was included. If you dont drink alcohol then you may not be so fussed about all inclusive. Half board may even be sufficient.

I hear you. Back in the US, elementary school starts at 9, and is only 5 minutes away! Makes a HUGE difference in little ones' ability to get enough sleep. We've been here 7 years, though, so only my oldest remembers anything but an early start. I don't buy the reasons for early starts here. The heat? One hour makes no difference in freaking 100 degrees, and all schools have a/c anyway. Business hours need to be changed to accommodate drop-offs/pick-ups? Most people have either a non-working parent, driver, or bus service. Couldn't be bothered to do things differently? That's the only reason I believe... It's the routine here in the region. Don't forget people wake up here between 4.15 in summer and 5.45 in winter for the morning prayer. So the day is just different than what people are used to in Europe or US. I wake up now at 5.45-6.00 for Fajr and then just get ready for the day. [b'>I love early mornings, and usually I am in bed by 10[/b'>. Wow Maroosh. Since DS was born 5 months ago I am still struggling with waking up at 6am to start our day even though I'm also in bed by 10pm. Apart from the exercise that my body badly needs for better energy levels do you recommend anything else? :)

Daza I'm sorry I certainly didnt mean to start a thread about women going to work loving their kids any less. What I was trying to say was that it must be so difficult and I cant imagine being able to do it myself. Mostly because our DS has been so ill and is still ill so it would be near enough impossible for somebody apart from me or DH to take care of him. Sami I cant believe how tough your LO's start to life has been. Its so heart breaking. I spent so much time in hospital just staring at my LO with needles and things in him feeling nothing but guilt as if it was my fault. I cant imagine not being able to even touch our LO for 2 months. Your so brave. How is your baby getting along now? Much much better I hope. I agree we have been through alot which is likely what steers my trail of thought towards babies being left alone at home with other people but as Daza put it everybodys circumstances are different.

With everything going on these days why do people create facebook accounts for heir babies? I have a few friends on facebook who have created accounts for their under 2 year olds. Considering how easy it became for sexual predators to target children online is it really a good idea to be sharing all your baby pics/photos online and giving your child their own Facebook account. I don't think I would introduce it to my child or am I over reacting?

If you want a good health insurance I'd highly recommend RSA. They cover literally everything on direct billing including all baby vaccinations, major diseases, even my sons neocate is fully covered and no insurance companies out here cover that. Get your insurance sorted through DH's work so you can get 'group policy' prices.

I find expats become so sensitive and particular about everything when they come out here. So what if a sales assistant calls your DD a baby? Shes 4 years old not 40! They are only trying to be friendly. She is a baby! Its only natural for kids to get uppity when their called babies you dont have to get in a hissy fit with an adult over it. So many over sensitive expats wanting the whole world to be 'their way'.

DH worked in the service industry here for a little while and he was not able to handle how his juniors were treated. As the Op's Manager he was very nice but firm also with his staff. If they done well he was happy to reward them, give them incentives to work towards- even if the reward was as simple as lunch on him. But DH's Senior Op's Manager was very much against DH's way of working. They insisted that DH needed to make sure he doesn't get them too big for their boots. On slave labour salary working 14 days straight at times and 12 + hour shifts I'm not sure how big their boots could have become. He would barge in once every few weeks, totally disregard everybodys hard work and just barrad them all on how useless and insignificant they all were. He would say things to the junior workers like 'I'm going to break your neck next time you do this' and 'Is your dads f*****ng company?' and just lots and lots of belittling comments and threats infront of all the other staff. It an awful negative place of work and I have stopped shopping at this store every since. Let me just add this was a 'new to Dubai wealth' British gentleman treating his staff in this manner. Disgusting.

Sorry to advise on a completely different spectrum to everyone else. Rather than making it about you (which us women are fantastic at doing) why dont you understand why your husband feels like this. Surely if it were the other way round everyone would be expecting your husband to make an effort again and show he loves you so why is it any different if he feels like this? We always lynch men on here but the truth is when a man really does love a woman he can becoming emotionally just as fragile as a woman. If your going to start feeling 'betrayed' and 'insecure' and perhaps he is feeling the same way then your just both a recipe for disaster.

My friend has 4 kids and over the years shes put on an unwanted 35 kilos which she has always struggled to lose. Her schedule is very busy and shes a working mum and when shes home she dedicates all her time to her very energetic children. After trying to shed the weight with no luck for years now she's thinking of having gastric band surgery to help her lose the weight. Can anybody recommend a good doctor or for or share their experiences please. Thanks! I had the band done but not in Dubai. I've never regretted it. As far as I'm aware its not so much as to how overweight you are but what your BMI is. Also, a gastric band isnt just something you can say you'll have, it also very much depends on what kind of an over-eater you are and this is why a person is asked very detailed questions regarding what they eat, how much, and when. They will even be asked, if the person they are talking to is good , whether they chew their food or just gulp it down without it touching the sides so to speak. So a person could want the band but get told they'd be better off with a gastric sleeve procedure or a bypass. This is a topic that is liable to bring people out the worst in people because it seems so many know someone who knew someone who knew someone etc etc etc who had a bad experience. Its not my experience, or that of the people I know who've also had the band. [b'>Suffice to say if this topic does not go pear shaped[/b'> :D I'll be pleasantly surprised :) edited by DesertRose1958 on 18/12/2012 :D

I just loved the suspense of whatever was going on at the drake. I really liked it too, just beginning to understand it and now it's cancelled :( What did you understand about it so far? The Drake is some sort of a prison so nobody can ever leave. Jane has been in the Drake since she was a little girl so she's been unknowingly trapped their all along. I didn't really get much else so far!

We just moved into a huuuge 3 BR flat on Sheikh Zayed Road (near Shangrila Hotel). Rent: 100k!! It's really accessible so I'm sure the school bus would go there. Try JLT as well. Were due to move soon and on a strict 100k budget for a 3 bed plus study/maid. Where did you find the advert for your current apartment? Dubizzle? I cant find anything in this price besides Mirdiff..
