All the problems you are having are exactly why we moved from DSO to Mirdif - best move we ever made! There were quite a few threads at the time about the problems. WRT the pool emptying and disinfection, yes it is absolutely required and chlorine alone will not treat faecal matter. All public pools in Brisbane have to go through the same process if there is an "accident". This was one of the many things that used to annoy me, not the pool closure, but the number of times people obviously let their children poo in the pool was just disrespectful. (I know it was not you Purplerain, so not a dig at you).

accordng to their website I think it is 230dhs (so you would need to sell a lot of stuff!) If you can find someone to share the table, it makes it a much better proposition! I recommend getting there as early as possible to make sure you get a table with good visibility and a little bit of shade. I got there right at 1 and most tables were gone.

That would really be nice if the laws changed for the better! omg, I saw a sports car flying by with a child sticking his head and shoulders out the sunroof, standing on his mom's lap this past weekend!! Just when I thought I couldn't see something more screwed up!! Just yesterday i saw a child sitting on the window sill of a car! So sitting with his legs in the car but his back, head and arms out of the car! That is definitely the worst thing I have seen here. :\:

I have had a table and sold everything on it, a lot before I had even set up the table! I sold kids clothes and toys and that seemed very popular but be aware that people want to spend the bare minimum Nd brand names sell for the same price as max/ h&m clothes. I ended up selling everything at a flat rate of 5 dhs each, to give you an idea. People still wanted to haggle! For me it was ok because I would have given away anyway.

anyone have any experience of the AC in the Ford Explorer? (The new one) Me! I had an old Explorer (2005) for 6 years and the AC was OK, it took a while to cool down but my new one (2011) has a far better AC but I have to agree with the poster about Prado's and Pajero's - they are better than the American SUV's, it's just a shame that they cost more! The Explorer has vents in the middle and far back but the control for these seats is at the front, though you can vary the temperature. We have a 2010 explorer and the ac is great, cools down really quickly. Oh and it's for sale too!

You should not pay them until they unpack your boxes as per the agreement you have signed. If they refuise to do that then call the management and have it out with them. never hand over cash if you are not happy with the work or service that they have provided. Gives them more of an incentive to put things right as they need to wait for their money. totally right , my husband had it with them and the way they were treating our goods and just wanted them out by that time , and that was the reason , but i know now for next time Its never easy to withhold payment with 8 sweaty men breathing down your neck in your own home but very easy to say "you shouldn't have paid them" when you're sitting behind a computer. Don't beat yourself up for paying them and you have every right to try and get some compensation. Let me know if you want some help with writing letters etc. I agree they were very unprofessional, totally blocking access to our villa and making no attempt to clear boxes out of the way, just enjoying watching us try and climb over them to get to the door!

Just look in shops on Satwa road? I'm not familiar with the area but am willing to go and explore! Thanks for any guidance. I will need thick wire, clay, beads, etc. edited by Suzieq123 on 24/03/2012 Don't think I have seen clay at Satwa but definitely at Dubai Library Distrib. Sounds like you might need to go to a couple different places. I miss bunnings!

Where/What is craftland? my DD just told me she needs to make a model of DNA and needs all sorts of supplies and I have no idea where to go, thanks! Craft land is a very small shop in one of the malls on Jumerirah Beach Road. It doesn't have a huge stock, mostly quilting stuff. You're probably better off going to Satwa, but to be honest there isn't really a great place for craftwork supplies in Dubai.

Chocs mentioned in her OP that she said something to the woman prior to all this ruckus about belting her child in. No good deed as they say, and the woman probably saw it is an attack on her parenting on went left, determined to catch Chocs in a bad moment. Ah yes, forgot about that. That would be it then. Still, by being conciliatory there may be a peaceful outcome ... no point meeting crazy with crazy edited by Embo on 20/03/2012

I don't know, it all sounds a bit strange. If it was just one or two isolated instances (dog barking and dog poo) it would be a colossal over-reaction by the neighbours. I can't believe anyone would follow someone for 2km to film them with their dog. Do you think perhaps there is more to it and the neighbours have just reached their limit? Perhaps your dog is barking all day and the noise is really upsetting them. Perhaps there is loads of dog poo in the area and they think it is all from yours. Either way, their response was wrong and it must have been really upsetting for you to be attacked like that. Maybe you could write them a note saying you are sorry that they are so upset and asking for more information about what is bothering them so you can try and address the problem. No one likes living in a conflict zone so I am sure they would appreciate the gesture of you trying to remedy whatever is the problem. If they don't respond, well, you've done all you can and there's not much point worrying about it. At least you will come across as the reasonable party! For industrial design, QUT is definitely your best bet. Like Basil said, QUT is mainly in the city but they do have campuses in more far flung regions like Carseldine and Kelvin Grove but there are shuttle buses betwen them. Actually Kelvin Grove is not far. Check out realestate.com.au for property to rent or buy. Also check out ato.gov.au for your entitlements as residents to HECS funded places at university.

I did a business degree at QUT and then a law degree there as well. My sister did an engineering degree at UQ and then post grad at Griffith Uni. She said that Griffith was no where near the standard of UQ. QUT was fantastic and I chose to do both degrees there because they have a more practical approach that the more esoteric approach of UQ. all unix will have post degree employment rates for comparison on their websites. I'm not clear on your son's citizenship status. If he is not a citizen then he won't qualify for HECS but can still study in Australia (in fact overseas students are a huge source of income for universities/ government) but will need to pay in full and upfront. They also pay a higher rate than citizens. QUT does not have on campus accommodation but there are loads of low cost apartment buildings in the city which are designed for students. I imagine as a young student it would be lots more fun to live in the city than out in the sticks at UQ! Plus you wouldn't need to worry about funding a car for him which he would definitely need at UQ. Austudy is the scheme which assists wi the additional costs of studying in Australia. Again this is only available to citizens and is means tested so I doubt this would be available but may be worth looking into to offset some of the costs. If you provide more info about the courses you ds is looking at applying for we can probably give more advice about the right unis. HTH.

Have you seen a GP? I had something similar, very painful, and it was a staph infection which was easily treated with some topical antibiotics. You may not need an ENT to deal with it. If you do, I can highly recommend Dr McEwan, was not impressed with Dr Shukar at all.

I am on the Paradigm Veo Medtronic pump. Will I be able to get infusion sets etc in Dubai does anyone know? My husband lives in Dubai and I am hoping to move to Dubai at some point. I will have Gold Plus Bupa care but I am unsure if I am able to get the resevoirs and infusion sets whilst in UAE. The pumps are given out under the NHS in the UK so I may have to buy one to come to Dubai as I may not be able to take it abroad. Does anyone have any knowledge on these matters. Hugely appreciated. Oh, and it is fantastic! Hi there I am on a Paradigm pump and can get the sets and consumables here but they are very expensive. You have to go to Healthcare city and pick them up from their office so it is a bit of a pain as they are not widely available. Do a google search to get their contact details and email the rep - actually I will look for it and post for you - and ask whether they have the ones you need. I would definitely recommend buying as many as you can before you come and on any trips home and just use the local ones as a back up. I'm not sure how much they are in the UK but I know in Oz I can buy 4 months supply for about $80 but one months supply here is almost 1000 dhs ($300). Same goes for the insulin - $30 for 5 vials at home versus $30 per vial here. Even the doctors tell you to buy at home! Hope this helps! Do a google search for voltages to see what voltage is used in different countries. Most UK and UAE items are 220-240 voltage and US ones are 110. you cannot use items of the incorrect voltage, even with a travel adaptor. in general, most portable electronics like computers, iPads, phones erc are 100-240 volt and can be used anywhere but bigger electrical items like fridges etc are region specific. It's easy to check, all items have the voltage on the cord or plug. Our tv is 100-240 so we can take with us to the US, bizarrely I can take my hair straightener but not my hair dryer! HTH

Sorry but this is one of the things that really irritates me. We have gotten to the point where we won't take anything to the park that we're not happy to lose. We've had sand toys, shoes, balls, and scooters "borrowed" without so much as a by your leave. One day, a small child took a fancy to my daughter's dress up shoes so her maid took them from next to my mother and put them on the child. My mum was so shocked she didn't say anything but watched until the child took them off and then she collected them. The maid then came and took them off my mum again. This time my mum said no but couldn't believe the front. We've had boys bury the sand toys and then pretend not to know what I was talking about when I asked for them back. We've had children ride off on our brand new scooters and then say to our faces that they were theirs. We've had children ask to borrow toys and then go home with them. In each case there was not a parent to be seen. I'm more than happy for children to play with any of our possessions while at the park, but I do think it is polite to ask, and I do expect to be able to take them home when we're leaving but it would appear this is too much to ask. Phew, rant over!!

Yes, my daughter had her 12th birthday party with them in November. All the girls had a blast and still talk about it now. Highly recommended ;) Is it done in an age appropriate way? as in decent clothes and minimal makeup? I have to admit my first thought was "ick!" but I suppose if its not over the top it could be fun for girls.

it really depends on which airline. I tried to book for my mother with Emirates and the website wouldn't allow me to do it so I ended up booking with KLM. There are many airlines who don't allow this, you will have to go to the airline's office and book there, which will cost you extra. Weird - I booked a flight online for my SIL with Emirates and there was no problem using my credit card.

I'm not sure about this- I can't imagine relying on a courier (or work schedules) for milk for my baby. Friends that I know went back to work while still breastfeeding always had a stock in the fridge. With 2 premmie babies and an indifferent milk supply, I spent a loooong time expressing and always had stacks in the freezer/ fridge for those occasions where I was away from the baby. I would never have been comfortable in a position where my baby was waiting for me to express in order to have a feed IYKWIM, much less waiting for me to fit in expressing in a work schedule, then waiting for the courier, then hoping the courier got there on time. I agree with Tanya that there may be circumstances where it would be an option (and a lifesaver!!) but not sure whether it would be a viable business? HTH.

Sorry Spiritgunner but I have to take exception to your remark. Buying anything in any souq is up to the purchaser to make their best price that they are comfortable with. It is also up to the purchaser to do some research and get recommendations. Should the OP take my recommendation at face value? Maybe not. But if the OP asks around she will discover the I do agree about going with someone who has experience, local or not. I agree, I remember a RE agent valuing my house once and saying that really, the definition of value was what the buyer was willing to pay and what the seller was willing to accept. No one else's opinion was relevant. I always have a niggling suspicion that I am paying too much in souks but then, if I think it is a fair price for what it is that I am buying, and I love the item, who cares if the next person pays less? thanks again for your recommendation, we will definitely check out Shebas.

We lived in red hill and before that Bardon. I liked both areas and both had good primary schools. Red hill is an easy run to RBH and not far to freeway for access to Mater, PA, and Greenslopes hospitals. Not sue how old your children are or whether they are Catholic, but if you need High schools, there is one very good boys catholic school in Ashgrove and a couple of good catholic girls schools in the area. State high schools in that area are a little scarcer. As Greenish said, most of those suburbs are pretty expensive and the inner city ones will be smaller blocks with a lot of apartments. I can give you more detailed info about Ashgrove, Bardon, Red Hill, Coorparoo, Greenslopes if you need ...
