Zara Home has sheets that will fit a 2M x 2M bed and also the pillow cases that will fit 1M or 90cm pillows. Have no idea what the thread count is like but I think they have nice bedding. If you are used to high tc sheets I think you would be disappointed with Zara ones. I just bought some pillow cases and they seem very scratchy. A lot of the brands don't seem to list the thread count.

Does anyone have their Tempur mattress on slats? We got ours about 6 weeks ago and it is not anywhere near as soft as in the store. When I phoned, the salesman said it would soften in time but not so far. Wondering whether its because of the slats?

I'm sorry you didn't love our beautiful city. I have lived in Melb, Syd and Perth too and I think they all have amazing things to offer, just as lovely Brisbane does. The weather in Melbourne is cr@p though so wild horses couldn't drag me back there. ;) lol ... Also note that the Queensland education system is not on par with other Australian states. Even the Queensland school adminstrators admitted this to me..... That is simply not true and any "school administrator" who said that to you is an unprofessional twit. As a teacher in Aus, I have never understood why we don't have a national curriculum, but it's in the works and will be here soon. The fact each state has it's own curric is my only criticism of education in this country because we have huge numbers of transient families and it's hard switching from one system to another. To suggest one state is in any way worse in general than the others is ridiculous. I'd be nervous of the schools you spoke to, but not the system as a whole in Qld. Anyway...the OP won't have school age kids here so it's not really relevant. :) You're right about Buderim...it's a pretty place and is quite central on the coast. I'm 15 mins north, just outside of Noosa and feel pretty blessed to live here. There's no way I'd commute from anywhere up here to the Brisbane CBD though! ;) To be fair, Michymat didn't actually live in Brisbane so is not really in a position to pass judgement on our beautiful city ;) I'm sure if she had spent any length of time she would have discovered all the wonderful things "Australia's most liveable city" has to offer! :)

I'm a Brisbane girl born and bred! Great place to live! I grew up in Coorparoo (Southside) but my husband grew up in the inner West (Ashgrove) so we had to compromise a bit and ended up in Red Hill. I love Red Hill as its so close to the city and has a bit more of a cosmopolitan feel about it being next door to Paddington. I would suggest inner city living if you have no children and then it is an easy commute to either Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast on weekends with all the beautiful hinterlands to explore. My sister just relocated to Southport and lives in a beautiful apartment overlooking the marina - we stayed a couple nights Christmas and it was just heaven waking up to that beautiful view. Could be an option if you really want beach living as its not too far from Brisbane (took us about 35 minutes, but wasn't peak time). Good luck! realestate.com.au is a good website for househunting and it also has a bit of info about the suburbs.

DD is currently in year 2 and DS is in FS1 so thoughts experience about primary schools would be greatly appreciated! Also any thoughts about the area in general would also be gratefully received! Go to Sharjah Blue/central souk, pick out some matching stones, and have them set. They'll be all the more special because you chose the stones and designed the ear rings.

If you can get to the metro you can go to the Bin Sougat centre at Rashidiya - there is a good shop there with all the blingy accoutrement to flashy up your dress! Also quite a few good textile shops with some really nice silks that I haven't seen elsewhere. ;)

I've just watched the recording and in a way knowing the outcome because of this thread made it all the more hilarious. We laughed our heads off at Rachel's antics but if I was her 'mom' and had rushed on to the stage to comfort her I think I'd have washed my hair first. Lol - I have given up watching the show (too much extra guff on it) but I do love reading the threads on here!

There are heaps for rent along the desert (71 st) that are 3 stories so I assume are 5 bedroom. I think the best thing to do is just keep an eye out for one you like the look of and call the number on the sign.

Don't you find them outrageously expensive for what you actually get? No at all. This year we're in Aus and the school photos REALLY are cr@p and cost the same as the gorgeous ones we got last year in Dubai (presumably from the same local photographer.) Last year, my son missed his photo day due to illness, as did another little boy in his class. The studio was only too happy to have them in on another day and process their photos with the rest of the class. I found their staff, service and photos to be second to none. edited by Green-ish on 06/12/2011 I agree - the school went with a different photographer last year (read cheap) and it was woeful - the colours were all washed out and the pose was ridiculous. I, for one, would prefer to pay the extra and get decent photos. We've got another photographer this year and my son's photo is *ok* but he has a stupid expression on his face. Can't blame the photographer for that!!

Sorry to hijack but ... I have a 3 year old boy who is fully potty trained - we waited until he was almost 3 incidentally and he got it pretty fast. BUT we had an incident in a mall toilet where the automatic flush went off while he was sitting there and it frightened the life out of him. Now he will ONLY use the potty unless its for number ones, in which case he has to stand. Number 2's he will only do at home and in the potty. Any tips for how to address this fear? DH says we should just throw out the potty but he gets hysterical every time I try to get him to use the toilet.

I've had 2 bouts of Bells Palsy. I understand the only treatment is steroids and they're only effective if treatment starts in the first 1-2 days of symptoms. My first bout was no problem - just had to tape my eye shut at night to ensure that it didn't dry out too much. The second time I was pregnant and it was much worse, I had a very excruciating pain just behind my ear that would come and go. That bout lasted for months, until after I had my baby. I don't remember tiredness at all. The first time I just continued life as normal. HTH

Saphire I went to Craft Land today and wanted to let you know not to bother. They don't stock Anchor or DMC - just an obscure brand I had never heard of. They can match colours but not exactly - no good for me as it would be very obvious if its not exactly the same.:(

Small correction re Gems. Sent in individually wrapped treat to gems school but told not allowed and sent home. Just incase any other mum thought of doing this. Our school is Gems and we do the party bags / individually wrapped treats. Key here being that its given at the END of the day and eaten / played with at home. Think some of the older Gems schools still do cake? edited by Purple on 29/11/2011 It was given for the end of the day, To be taken home. Still not allowed according to class teacher :( My DD is at a Gems and is constantly coming home with cupcakes/ treats. Annoying when icing then gets spread all over the car :) edited by Embo on 29/11/2011

When I had DS there was a mum of twins in the same special care room. One had two teeth - one was loose and the other was not. The doctors (not sure if it was even a dentist) removed both. I was there when it happened and it certainly was not easy to get that second one out. I'm not sure what the reasoning was for removing them but I know the mum was relieved as it made breastfeeding much more comfortable!!

We had parent teacher conference today for my FS1 son and the teacher said that the first term is all about the emotional and social aspects of interacting in the classroom. They haven't even started looking at writing! I would be a bit worried about pushing too much too soon - after all they have another 13 or so years at school! Don't want to burn them out and make them hate school so young.

I've had mine for 3 years and have developed lumps in my breasts (fybroid cystitis [sp?'>) which are not linked in any way to cancer but can be a little painful. I can't sustain another pregnancy so need a very effective contraceptive and am useless at remembering pills so this was the best option for me. I love not having periods so am happy to put up with the minor side effects. Have lost over 14 kg in the past year so definitely no weight gain effects for me. Agree though that you need to look at all the options to find the one that suits your circumstances best. HTH. Just wanted to add that I have type 1 diabetes and have definitely not experienced insulin resistance and am more susceptible to yeast infections but have not experienced an increase since having the mirena implanted so I think 3pinplug's doctors were probably right that her symptoms were not related to the mirena. edited by Embo on 21/11/2011

If you don't mind me asking ;) Also, did you go back to the Tempur showroom and ask if they would match the price? edited by Embo on 28/10/2011 It was in the Arabian Center, I did think about going back to Tempur but the lady in the pharmacy was so great, and said that my old mattress would be taken away for free, have written confirmation of that, i thought just do it. Thats great! Definitely going there then.

I couldn't find a park there today! I checked with our local pharmacy and they quoted a price about 600 dhs less than what Gaby quoted over the phone. She said she *may* be able to take a further 5% off that too but wasn't sure. Just something to bear in mind if you decide to get one. Every dhs helps! Which pharmacy is that? Tempur have a promotion on until the end of the month, 15% discount, but you have to buy the bed. So for the basic mattress and the frame, it is up to 13000dhs. :) SupaCare (sp?) at Arabian Centre. She wasn't sure about the extra 5% though.

Just to put my two cents in...;) I used to manage a big mattress chain at home and we sold Tempur (and sleep on one now). They are 1000000% worth it! The biggest mistake people make, though, is getting an "off brand" one because it is much less expensive. The reason the knock off ones are so much less is because the quality of foam is not nearly as good. Tempur uses a patented process to create the foam which causes the density to be very high. The off brand ones use foam that will feel the same for a very short while, but (believe me) it will lose the feel over time and oxidise and "turn in to" a regular foam. Tempur also has a 20 year warranty. Take it or leave it, but in my experience you end up having to keep buying replacement beds after the knock off beds lose their feel...so you end up spending the money anyways. Also, Tempur is great for any back problems.....I have a pinched nerve in my shoulder and a bulging disk in my lower back..and am almost pain free because of the bed... Anyways...stepping off the soap box :) Lol preaching to the converted! you may or may not have seen my thread on memory foam mattress - I got well and truly suckered but am hoping to get my money back tomorrow. What I bought only had 5cm of memory foam not the 20cm they told me. Partly my fault for not knowing that even Tempur only have 9cm!! Its all about the quality of the remaining foam. After doing some research I have worked out that all other mattresses are locally made by 1 or 2 companies. The 4000dhs one I had almost decided on as a replacement is made by the same company as the cr@p one I bought! Now its just a matter of convincing DH that 9000 dhs is worth it!

Can i ask where the 4000 dhs mattress was? I am also looking for a good memory foam mattress and the Tempur ones start at 9000 (feel AMAZING though). ETA: I looked at Homes R Us today too but their memory foam one is from Silent Night and only has 3 cm of memory foam. edited by Embo on 27/10/2011
