Well you can just buy cheap low prescription reading glasses at any opticians for a couple of hundred dirhams. However, if you want them specially made, depends entirely on the lenses and frames you choose.

Yes, it's perfectly correct. This has been the right price for quite some time. I take the unfortunate taxis regularly to the Malls and yoga. Whenever I order a taxi, it starts anything from 12 AED before 1000 and 8 AED after that. At Dubai Mall, the charge is 8 AED before 1400 Ithink but from later afternoon, it is 12 AED. Beware that you may get a longer ride inside any shopping Mall car park and the driver takes you round in circles. Very few drivers I have had will go to the right entrance. They say they know where to go but they haven’t got a clue. The more mileage they accumulate, the more commission goes to their salary. I always check with the drivers if they know where to take me when I open the door without getting into the car. I automatically go for the next taxi when they don't know the way. I have called RTA a few times and gave them a hard time. Remember, the registration of the taxi is marked on both sides of the internal car in case you don't have time to take the car reg number down once you get down. If you have a problem, always take a photo from your mobile. I arrived back from London yesterday morning and as I was travelling solo, I was directed to a female taxi driver. She asked me if I could help her with my one luggage. My reply was, 'don't worry, I will get someone who can lift my luggage' Pointless being a driver who can't lift a normal 20kg luggage! I need to correct you on something. The drive DON'T get a salary, they ONLY work on commission and they ahve to put something like 350dhs on the meter before they make anything. THIS is the problem with the entire situation. If they were given a basic salary, then earned commission on top, this wouldn't happen.

I have an UAQ visa and live in Dubai. Never had any issues. So long as you prove you live in Dubai i.e. have a tenancy/DEWA contract in your name then it's fine. In regards to your maid sponsorship, no I don't think that's possible. If you have an AD visa, then she has to be sponsored under an AD visa, as you are her sponsor.

Sun 'block' is much higher SPF than that, hence the name sunblock. Herbal Essentials do really good natural, organic sunscreens around 30/40 SPF. I use them myself. You can normally find it in pharmacies.

nothing to worry about, for one that goes two arrive. Of course people made redundant or leaving will start ranting about the place. It's ok, they should just go, nobody forced them to come here in the first place. Wow what an unhelpful, rude and ridiculous thing to say! No, people made redundant can't 'just go'. Many have loans, or mortgages and other commitments that have to be dealt with and actually end up trapped in a vicious cycle they can't get out of. The 'if you don't like it leave' attitude is a very poor one. I sincerely hope YOU don't find yourself in this position one day, and then have someone say the same to you.

Difficult age, when peer pressure and stress over many things can really get to teenagers, especially girls. How is she eating? What is she eating? You could do a two pronged approach and rule out anything medical, as well as going to see a psychologist. When you say it's a difficult topic, does she avoid the subject completely? I don't want to jump to the conclusion of an eating disorder, but it's not uncommon and people with these disorders are VERY good at hiding it.

Hello everyone. So I am here to help my dear friend about her problem. She's been my friend since we were in college. We're really close. To cut the long story short, her husband wanted to buy a new car. Since she loves him so much, she is very supportive wife. She would do whatever it takes to make their life a happy one. Her husband wanted to buy a Porsche so she is asking which Porsche car will suit a married couple. In addition, they still don't have a baby. Can you suggest guys? Thanks I would imagine that if the Husband wants a Porsche then he will know exactly what model he can afford Your question is an odd one. I would also imagine he will go to the showroom and test drive the models he can afford, I have never heard anyone ask which model will suit a married couple?? And a Porsche will make a happy marriage? Riiiiight.

Hi ladies, I am looking for recommendation for a hairdresser who can cut hair well. And won't charge ridiculous amount for that. I am not looking for fancy salon recommendations. So excuse me all ladies naming and faming roots, salon ink, slam, pastels, sisters Etc Anyone charging ess than 200 Dhs please? I had a chat with my hairdresser who is one of the salons above and asked her why the prices are so high for services here She said it is because of import costs of products, rents, staff salaries, rents and medical insurance. Because they pay the stylists more here the salons have to sadly offset the costs to the customer. There are many freelance ladies who come to your house, perhaps they charge less as they don't have the salon overheads. Plenty of 'freelance' work from home, or come to you hairdressers. But still doubtful you'd find one charging that low - they'd never make any money. Lowest I found was about 450 for cut and partial colour.

It depends on the treatment, how long your hair is, how much the salons are getting the products for, how much their overheads are - sooooo many factors.

Aliza, formerly of Beauty Plus is your 'go to' lady for any kind of treatment like this. She does hair botox, keratin treatments, brazilian blowouts, rebonding and she's excellent. Butttt her prices have gone up sooooo high. What's happening in Dubai? Everywhere they are talking about recession and people increasing service charges of everything. Yes I know she is excellent but services starting from 1000++ Dhs is too much Try going to one of the mainline salons for any of these treatments! They start at 1,800 dhs!!!

Sadly with many people in this position, they don't 'wake up' until they have a health scare. Maybe drag him to the docs for a general checkup and get the doctor to lay out the health issues that he could end up with if he doesn't make some serious changes.

Seems a bit odd. Their reasoning - 'Justification for the purpose and conditions of the intended stay was not provided' 'Your intention to leave the territory of the Member states before the expiry of the visa could not be ascertained' - suggested that you hadn't provided these details, but clearly you have. I would say you have no other option but to actually go to the Spanish embassy and deal with them directly.

I also had friends who moved back, husband was a UK national, wife Indian - he didn't have to go first, but did because they took so long with her spouse visa. They had to jump through so many hoops, to the point that I had to send them pics of them together, to prove it was a legitimate marriage. All worked out in the end, but was a long and painful process.

Giving a day off later because you've 'decided she has to work' NYE doesn't really make up for her missing out on spending the night with her friends and possibly family does it? Which is the point. If you've sprung it on her and only just made plans, it's unfair to expect her to work it. Besides, aren't these occasions meant to be spending time with YOUR family? Not ditching the kids to go out on social jollies.

Thank you all once again. I finally got to the bottom of it yesterday, by sticking to my guns and demanding 'politely' to speak to ONE person who would go and find out what's actually going on. Turns out that due to a mistake in the beneficiaries names, the money was never credited and held in the middle bank here in the UAE. Apparently they're allowed to hold onto the money for 21 days before they have to return it to sender (sitting on it getting interest I guess), unless the senders bank demands it be returned immediately. We requested it to be returned a week a go, they didn't initiate it - typical. Such a shame that they couldn't just explain this to start with and we had to raise complaint after complaint. I hate banks here.

Hello again. I know, I know, it never rains it pours lol So as a follow on to my tenant issue post, one of the other major issues right now that's causing us problems is a huge banking issue. I payment was sent to my husband on the 1st November, he got a call saying there was an issue and some details needed verifying, which he did and was told that the amount would be credited - it never was. The bank now deny there was ever a payment. We checked with the senders bank and have proof it was sent and they say that the payment was refused by my husbands bank, but the money was never sent back to them. We have called and visited the branch, escalated it to investigations. After 3 weeks this issue is still not resolved and the money is still missing. My husbands bank have even blocked us on social media - how completely unprofessional is that? They never call him back, it's complete silence from their end. We've now got Central Bank involved, but even they've told us that it could take 2 weeks for a response. I've have NEVER known anything like this? How can a bank do this? Effectively just lose your money?

Unfortunately November has not been kind to us, there's this, then a wonderful bank here 'lost' my husbands salary - which still hasn't turned up, 3 weeks later (he's been unemployed for the best part of a year and this was only his second payment and we've been living off our savings, which are now pretty much exhausted). I have the mortgage on the apartment to pay, I'm being harassed for service fees and I have our rent to pay. I'm just at a loss as to what to do next. I literally feel like the world is against me at the moment, as NOTHING is going right. I have so many companies that owe me money and I've resorted to threats to get them to pay up.

Apple iphones and ipads meant for the UAE market and stocked by Etisalat and DU won't have it. You need to buy from the grey market stores in the malls that stock the imported UK and US phones, which will have it. Mac laptops will have it, wherever you buy them from.

Well before you go down the route of involving the authorities, have you actually gone and spoken to the owner? That should be the very first thing you do. If they're out, they might be completely unaware that their dog barks when they're not home - most are mortified to find out that their pets do. If you involve the municipality or indeed the police over a noise complaint, then the dog could well be confiscated - and that's a really bad thing for the dog here. So this should be your last action, if you've exhausted all other methods to resolve the issue.

I'd say it's definitely still worth going to see a sleep study specialist. My mother is fit and healthy in every other way apart from the sleep apnea. For years we just thought it was 'snoring', and sorry to say but your average Dr or GP might not be versed in the underlying causes and effects of the snoring, that a specialist would be. Nothing to lose by getting it checked out.

My mother was diagnosed with terrible sleep apnea and it was the cause of her horrific snoring. She sleeps with a machine, but she got it in Australia, where you can try out loads of different machines and masks of varying sizes and find the right one for you. Her machine is so quiet, you'd never know it was there and she only has a tiny mask that just covers her nose. IF your husbands do indeed have sleep apnea, sorry to say ladies but you really do need to get it treated as at the end of the day it's very damaging to the body. My mother would stop breathing in the night because of it and the amounts of adrenaline her body was releasing to get her breathing again was damaging her heart - long term this causes heart damage and other serious health issues. Sleep apnea also raises the blood pressure. Your husband might have to suck it up and get used to it, for the sake of his future health. ETA - what the machines basically do, is make sure there is constant airflow into the lungs, so that they don't collapse when the person stops breathing and they send a boost of air to keep them breathing. It's honestly worked wonders for my mother. She takes her machine everywhere with her, as it's small enough to travel with AND she doesn't snore anymore. I really can't emphasise how serious a health issue sleep apnea is. PLEASE get it sorted.

But didn't our great grandparents die young ?? Nope. All mine lived to late 80's early 90's. All were fit and active all their lives, they were 'doers' and very much lived off the land, growing their own fruit and veg. Getting milk from the local dairy farm, before it had all the chemicals and pasturisation done. Even though two of them were heavy smokers for much of their lives, as many were 'during the war' but because of their healthy living in other ways it helped a lot.

Well that's not true at all. They have to give you a valid reason for terminating the contract. They can't terminate you for no reason. Contracts can be terminated with the mutual consent of both employer and employee, but if there's a problem, then they would have had to issue you with warnings etc, prior to terminating your contract.

I think there is a time and a place and children should be restricted from entering such places... We have bars that don't allow people underage to enter (for obvious reasons), why can't the same be applied for fancy restaurants? Even at weddings, a lot of weddings the bride and groom will ask that the event is not child-friendly... I just wanted a quiet night out away from my kids for a change but i ended up getting stuck with some one else's kids instead... Totally agree with you. I do know one particular venue that changed their policy to 'No children after 10pm', as all the adults were complaining, that they were trying to have a 'grown up' night out, with a few drinks and listen to some live music and didn't appreciate all the kids running about. There's a time and a place for children and some venues and atmospheres are completely inappropriate.

Sounds very much like Prickly Heat. My mother gets this a lot and it's pretty common if you've just moved to a hotter climate that you're not used to. Wearing tights won't help either as your skin can't breathe. The areas you say are worst are where you have the most sweat glands, these are blocked and tat causes the itching,a s the sweat becomes trapped under the skin. To help you need to wear loose, cool clothing - ditch the tights, these are only going to make it worse. You can buy antihistamine tables over the counter, these will help with the itching sensation and calm the rash down. Here you go. http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/prickly-heat/Pages/Introduction.aspx

My question is... How did you find them 'by accident' in [i'>her[/i'> bag? Did your hand accidentally rummage around it? Valid point? Why were you looking in her bag to start with? Also, given that you can just buy contraceptive pills over the counter with NO prescription, she may not be able to provide you with one. There are many reasons women take the pill. Best thing is to sit down and ask her straight out - I understand the implications - but also you'll have to be prepared to explain what you were doing looking in her things to start with.
