Is there anywhere to check that an agent is legit before handing over a deposit cheque? Yes, they should be registered with RERA and have a RERA number that you can check.

Brussels in the H Hotel is NO smoking, and right at Trade Cente r/a - lovely chairs, good drinks and food menu! ZING - was just going to say the same thing. Lovely place.

I just came back from Jordan, spent two nights in the Movenpick in Petra - it's the closest hotel. We spent an entire day in the site, you really need two to see all of it. Walk right upto the monestary and then up to the rocky view point - you sit and overlook the West Bank boarder - amazing views. Make sure you have sturdy walking shoes as we probably trekked about 12 kms and the terrain is very steep in parts. They have donkeys to take people about, but it just seemed a bit cruel to me. I don't know about the night tour, but we went first thing in the morning and started at around 7am - it's quiet and not busy. Also used one of the registered guides - he was very good. Amman is not particularly pleasant. Don't expect to get taxis - they just don't stop and they don't speak English. <em>edited by FairyDust on 28/01/2014</em>

Dictionary.com disagrees, this is their definition for cluster: I didn't say it was incorrect. My point is, native English speakers won't use the word in that manner as it just sounds wrong.

I certainly wouldn't be happy if this is what a teacher in teaching. Whilst it might be grammatically correct, no one actually speaks that way. There is a difference tho between learning the "correct" grammar and usage of words, and colloquial English. When I studied Spanish, we learned the formal way of speaking and correct use of difficult words, but the slang Spanish I learned while living there was completely different. I honestly don't even think you'd find people in a 'cluster' in formal English. It just doesn't make sense. Cluster is typically used for objects, certainly not people. <em>edited by FairyDust on 27/01/2014</em>

You know what? I've given up buying chicken breasts and freezing them. Every single time I defrost them, even after only a few days, they have this sweet smell - the start of the flesh breaking down. Meat just doesn't keep here. <em>edited by FairyDust on 27/01/2014</em>

I wouldn't rely on that at all. If your contract states 'no pets' - a LL can actually use it as a reason to evict you, as technically you are in breach. I live in Remraam and the community rules are 'no pets' as it is with all Dubai Properties Group developemtns, BUT so long as you have a clause stating that your LL allows pets in the contract, there's nothing they can do. As a pet owner, I would NEVER have a contract without it stating that I can have them.

The number of cheques are purely at the agreement between you and your LL. Many will increase the rental amoutn by about 5,000dhs for more cheques.

I did this last year, ended up quitting because of fast day grumpiness and headaches. Thinking about going back to it, just deal with the negatives. The negatives are your body detoxing - stick with it and after a couple of weeks you won't have those side effects. I found it much easier to do Eat.Stop.Eat and just fast for 24 hours twice a week. You just drink water or clear teas on the fasting days. Doing like 7pm, to 7pm, you sleep most of it anyway.

I will say though, that this new law about not smoking with children under 12 is a joke - why? Because it's illegal to now smoke with children in a vehicle and yet they still HAVEN'T passed a seatbelt law for children! Riiiiiiiiight.

To be honest, it's about time they started clamping down on smoking in the UAE. You can't go anywhere without ending up stinking of fag ash. So glad more and more smoke free venues are starting to pop up, it is literally a breath of fresh air. With Shisha, it's far more harmful than cigarettes - you might aswell chain smoke and entire pack, which is pretty much the equivalent. And I say this as an ex-smoker.

I understand that this has stopped broadcasting It is really hard to drive a radio station out of business, particularly in a vibrant economy such as dubai. Wonder what happened. Actually it's very easy! If there were no ads etc - it's making no money and just to run the transmitter costs about 200,000 dhs a month. Why on earth would you run a station at a loss? Makes no sense at all. And it's not a vibrant economy for the stations when you have several, all pretty much doing the same thing - no enough advertising revenue to go around. Advertisers = income = being able to pay wages and cover running costs. People seem to forget that. Radio stations are a business, just like anything else. <em>edited by FairyDust on 21/01/2014</em>

Try the wedding shop in Jumeirah Plaza on Beach road. www.theweddingshop.ae I found the staff there lovely and they have dresses there to suit most budgets. Just arrange an appointment and try on loads of lovely dresses.

I think it depends on the companies. I used to be under my father's sponsorship - Emirates and I had to cancel my visa to go onto the new company's sponsorship. It really doesn't make much difference to be honest which way they do it.

But I see you say you are still paying for the car, so it sounds like the car is still owned by the bank or finance company, in that case you do not own it so you cannot sell it until you clear the debt in full and get the clearance letter from the bank. That's NOT true at all! You can find a buyer, who then goes with you to the bank and pays the amount to the bank to clear the loan. SOme banks will do the clearance letter on the spot, then enabling the transfer of sale, others just take a couple of days. But you certainly don't have to pay the loan off first.

You can call the gas delivery guys you use and they will buy it back off you for 100 dhs. OR sell it. Given that the larger ones cost about 450 dhs to begin with, it's always worth trying to get a bit of cash back.

My husband got fined in Deira somewhere...same plain clothed police man. DH actually thought it was a scam and asked the police officer for his ID. Maybe that's why he got fined 400 instead of OP's 200! What? Your husband had every right to ask for ID.

Just can't figure out why it's on the net but not available in the car, 'tis all. That's dead easy to answer. To have an online station costs virtually nothing, compared to paying something like 200,000 dhs a month to keep a transmitter running for a station that brings in zero revenue.

Radio 2 is excellent, highly recommend tuning in there - a real mix of oldies and some new stuff, and Interactive Lunch from 1pm you can request your own music! 99.6FM er actually 99.3 and 106 for Abu Dhabi!

I'm kinda sitting on the fence with this one though. The new rates on the rent calculator came into effect on January 1st - meaning many LL's are now missing out on being able to increase for another 12 months. [b'>Maybe as a 'sign of good will' if you REALLY want to stay, negotiate a lower increase[/b'>. and that is why rents go crazy....... just proves that LL can get away with it and negates all of rent committees / reras power. er then following that line of logic, if the rent calculator says he can put it up by 15% - then why shouldn't he/she? Because they still have to give 90 days notice.... even if it says "increase as per rent calculator" saying now, that he wants 15% for a contract to be signed either this month or next is not allowed I think you missed my point Izzy. Nevermind.

I never had any issues with the depo injection and used it for years - it's totally hassle free. Cerazatte is the pill closest to the injection, so doctors tend to try people on that first to see if the depo is suitable..
