Saw this published over the weekend. Seems to make it much fairer towards LL's. Increases can now be made if the difference is 10% NOT 25%. http://www.emirates247.com/news/government/mohammed-issues-new-decree-on-dubai-rental-increases-2013-12-21-1.532067 For ease of reading (taken from the Gulf News article), increases can be as follows for all new rental renewals: Landlords can raise rents on renewals by: 5 per cent if the earlier rental is 11 to 20 per cent lower than the average rent for a similar property; 10 per cent if the rental is 21 to 30 per cent lower than the current going rates for properties of a similar scale; 15 per cent if the rent is as low as 31 to 40 per cent than comparable ones; and 20 per cent if a property’s rental is more than 40 per cent less than the average. edited by FairyDust on 22/12/2013

Like a car, you will need to register the boat in order to sell it.It is proof of ownership. What kind of boat is it ? Speedboat or sailboat ? Dubizzle is a good place to advertise. edited by fjcruiser on 20/12/2013 Actually, no the boat does not have to be registered. You can have the de-registration paper. All you need is a bill of sale, to say the boat has been sold to you. You do this at the Traffic department and have it notorized. Dubizzle is a nightmare and absolutely put no time wasters or free riders - we've been trying to sell ours for the best part of a year now and it's a nightmare. We've now got a broker involved to deal with it for us.

Hiya. This is such a common thing and my best advice to you is CHUCK THE SCALES AWAY!!! Ignore them! Go by your measurements, how you feel, how your clothes look. If you doing weight training, then you will automatically build muscle mass, BUT it's a common misconception that muscle weighs more than fat - it doesn't. 1lb of fat = 1lb of muscle, but muscle is more dense and leaner than fat is. Also if you're training hard, then your body needs more and better fuel, lean meats, low or good carbs, lots of veggies. Most people I know who get into training, go to 5 small meals a day. If you are seriously training, then you will (hopefully) start to see a noticeable difference at around the 4 week mark - don't expect results overnight. People get far too hung up on weight and not what is actually happening to their body. To give you an example, when I get really stuck into it, everyone tells me I look slimmer and leaner and that I've lost 'loads of weight' - in fact I haven't, I actually put on because I naturally build muscle, but my body shape changes quite significantly. Your body will also still be going through some hormonal changes, but again, perfectly normal. So to reiterate - check the scales away :) Good luck. edited by FairyDust on 10/12/2013

Well the whole set up is a website, the forum is only a tiny part on that. How many people on the forum have actually navigated around the 'site' to see what's there? Lots of useful info. EW also has fb pages and twitter accounts. But there's lots of competition out there these days and I've seen posters here, post the same questions up on at least another 1 or 2 sites.

Is your holiday calender days? Or working days? Normally 30 days in calender days, so taking 14 days makes sense. If it's working days, then total annual holiday is usually 25 or so days as you discount the weekends. Sounds like they can't make up their minds. What does it state in your contract?

Hi All, Long story short, after a YEAR of trying to get hubby's visa cancelled - he's since been working elsewhere and every time he's come back to the UAE he's given in all his documents for cancellation, but people seemingly couldn't be bothered. Now, the company - finally - have decided they will start the cancellation process. They've taken photocopies of his PP and visa and have said they will contact him when it's done, to bring in his EID and PP. Now, here's the issue, he is flying back to the UAE on Wednesday and we are meant to fly out for vacation on Thursday - what are the chances of him getting stopped and not allowed to leave? Does he need some sort of paper? Can they remotely cancel his visa? This is all very annoying/frustrating and is likely to screw our anniversary vacation :(

I really do feel your frustration and I honestly can't answer that. Are there any kind of networking events or gatherings for people in the sector you are looking in? I've had friends make great contacts and find an 'in' that way.

Personally I wouldn't bother so much with dubizzle, but you need to use reputable HR agencies and head hunters. It can be very difficult to find work here. You're not doing anything wrong, there's just so much competition and I hate to say it, but you're up against people who would probably expect a significantly lower salary than you. Try companies like Clarendon & Parker.

You don't haev to unfriend people. There are plenty of optins to hide their posts or put them on a limited profile. Sadly some people have a habit of 'over-sharing'. People don't need to know what you;re doing every minute of every day. There's twitter for that! Facebook has a very different purpose now, to when it first started. It's just some people haven't evolved with it.

It can be a bit hit and miss with FF to be honest. I used to be a member in Mirdiff and the PT's weren't great, although the facilities were fantastic. I now go to Motor City and find that much better. No, PT should EVER make you feel bad or make rude comments - that's not their job, nor should it be their aim and I would be complaining about that! The PT I had at MC was very good. I really like the new Myzone, system FF have installed - it's a great motivator. My only gripe is they always play the music far too loud and most people are always plugged into their individual ipods and it can be really hard to zone their music out - I'm forever complaining about it. It really doesn't matter what gym you go to. To get results, you have to put in the effort.

Salmon are fish that swim thousands of miles - obviously they can't do that in giant tanks Except, yes they do... Think about it, they're still swimming thousands of miles, they're just doing it in a smaller area. You could walk or run a thousand miles on a treadmill in your house and it would have the same effect on your body as walking or running a thousand miles outside. It's not the same. The tanks are small and cramped with so many fish, they not swimming against currents or jumping up waterfalls in rivers - zero comparison. That's like comparing a cross country runner to someone who hobbles along. edited by FairyDust on 30/11/2013

Yes, they do check all ID or passport copies. Another thing is if one or both are Muslim, this will play a large part, or even with an Islamic name. I hear of on average 5 cases per year, mostly residents. But tourists have been prosecuted for this also. Yes 2020 is coming, but does this mean their moral standards have to drop? It's not about dropping moral standards (let's face it, a bit of a contradiction here, so let's not get all pious hey). It's about being realistic.

Enforcing the laws would have a negative impact on the revenues of certain bars and nightclubs! Remember the story of someone buying the world's most expensive bottle of champagne in a nightclub here? As a reminder the purchaser was a Saudi. And Dubai expects 25 million visitors during the Expo 2020 - all of whom they expect to be married to stay in hotels? er not likely.

I agree, whilst technically it's illegal, if they enforced this rule the tourism industry would be dead over night. Just use your common sense really and don't do anything stupid. EmmaRitz, I totally get where you're coming from BUT the UAE has opened it's gates to tourism and all the 'infulences' that go with it. It is a fine balancing act, that for the most part the UAE does very very well. I'm sorry for the issues your children are having, but that's the problem of others, not them. I also find it hilarious when people harp on about 'respect' - how about certain people respecting OTHER counties rules when they go there? You can't have it all one way. Plus as I always say, respect is earned, NOT demanded. edited by FairyDust on 29/11/2013

Hi Another rent question. Our two year contract is about to expire. Landlord is renewing for another year but serving us 12 months notice so his friend can move in (not allowed). He is insisting on a 5 per cent increase on the rent which isn't in line with the rental calculator. I just want to check whether because it is the end of a two year contract if he is entitled to put it up or if he still has to be guided by the rent calculator? Thanks No nor can he ask you to move out so his mate can move in I don't understand this, why not, he has given her 12 months notice to move out? it has to be the LL or an immediate family member moving in, NOT a friend.

I've also done rebonding and it really depends on the products used, some are very gentle these days. The point of Keratin is that it's not harsh chemicals - your hair natually has keratin in it anyway.

I was just reading up on it. Doesn't last very long - 10 washes they say. I'd stick with the Keratin, at least that lasts months and not weeks. Thank you, FairyDust for your response. With so many views and no feedback; I better drop the idea of doing keratin or botox again. Thanks again. Nothing can beat the feel and look of untreated natural hair! Personal exp. Try having MY hair lol. NikitaD, I do the Kerastraight and I love it. Usually last 4 - 6 months before it needs redoing. My hair is always in fab condition afterwards, the frizz goes and it's manageable. It also greatly reduces the dreaded hair fall that many of us suffer from here. I haven't seen anyone offering the hair botox here, so I can only go on what I've read about it.

Why is salmon farming so bad? Its better than decimating wild salmon, no? Farming Salmon isn't bad, it's that farmed salmon aren't as good for you - they have a much higher fat content. Salmon are fish that swim thousands of miles - obviously they can't do that in giant tanks and therefore build up fat content. And you can absolutely taste the difference.

I found this article in gulfnews. http://gulfnews.com/uaessentials/ask-the-law/can-my-landlord-refuse-to-renew-my-contract-1.1146376 It makes me question the 12-month eviction notice. That's a completely different scenario though. 8 years and no rent increase? Who does that? No one. Plus the contract was only valid for the 8 year period and that was made clear. I think in that case, the LL is being completely fair. Unless the tenant is will to pay the current market rate, which I would imagine, be quite and increase.

He also said he would get his US lawyers onto me but i did tell him that that is irrelevant in the UAE and that the UAE tenancy law applies. Nice try. He's clearly trying to intimidate you. Obviously he just wants you out to put the rent up as you can put a property for sale with a tenant there. Stand your ground.
