Here's a crazy idea. Is the mum on her own? Or does she have a partner? If she's on her own, why not ask HER to come and join all of YOU for Christmas and just have one big family affair? Surely people can put aside their differences for one day and for the sake of the children.

From what I know, the tenancy agreement doesn't circumvent the tenancy laws. He HAS to give you 12 months notice to vacate if he wants to sell.

Gosh no, you can't have someone come in just once a day - that would be terribly unfair. Unfortunately, when you have pets, you have to realise the cost of looking after them. Homelypetz would be about as much as kenneling them and I seriously don't think they'd be happy only seeing the dogs once a day for all that time. Actually, if you check their website - they INSIST on two visits a day. One just isn't enough. <em>edited by FairyDust on 25/11/2013</em>

Hang on- isn't one major factor being missed here? OP's agent and LL are doing all this AFTER the agreement has expired? So they ignored the 90 days notice for making ANY changes to the contract? Doesn't that mean, that they HAVE to renew under the old conditions and at the old rent?

I don't get why so many people get so hung up on these holidays. Those that actually get to have them, should count themselves lucky - many people don't get them at all, otherwise the entire country would grind to a halt - someone has to work. It would be nice if all the shops etc were shut for the day just like old times in Europe :-) Not a chance - think of all the lost revenue from shopping spending. So this makes NO sense at all. Those who normally get a 1 day weekend, now get a 2 day weekend. Those who normally get a 2 day weekend, now get a 3 day weekend - clear as mud - as usual.

Having hunted around myself, you'll be hard pressed to find many places doing an evening Christmas dinner - they all do brunches. ANother option might be to get dinner catered for you by one of the hotels.

I hope that it does increase rents and property prices, many landlords and business owners have been waiting a long time to be able to make the kinds of money that Dubai is famous for. It will also squeeze a lot of the mid-class residents out, which has become a too large sector. Winning this bid will give a dubai the opportunity to redeem itself after the bad fall a few years ago. So you want Dubai to only be for the ultra rich or the ultra poor? Uh huh becaues that's totally realistic now isn't it? I often wondered what life is like in LaLa land. And who will be the backbone and do all these middle sector jobs then? No, read properly. I said it was too large. These at mid level are not moving the property market fast enough. I dont get this - why would people buy adult dogs? I mean if you are going to spend thousands on a pet, you would want a pupppy. Many people do. But again, reinforces the argument NOT to buy a dog! People who do it only increase the demand and this sort of thing continues. Sharjah animal souk has been a prime culprit for this for years now. The conditions animals are kept in are vile. How that place is still open, I have no idea.

It's great if Dubai wants to host the expo and uses it as an excuse to expand some of the infrastructure, but this sentiment that the expo will somehow jumpstart another enormous boom and justifies the enormous rental and property price increases is simply bizarre and unrealistic. Well said, a lot of stuff will be built based on the Expo, but I think Dubai would be better off building quite a few of them regardless of the Expo. Personally, the Olympics would have been a better "coming of age" event The Olympics would never happen here. Summer Olympics in 50 degree heat? Not a chance. Look at the problems the World Cup is now having with Qatar and they are regretting that decisions BIG time. I mean, honestly, how many people had even heard of an Expo before Dubai put a bid in? Well you wouldn't use the same stuff for both. For clothes and others things - try ACE hardware. For skin sprays and paints - the costume shops will probably be your best bet, like Mr Ben's.

Hiya, Yes I live there. Lots of children in the community. They're currently putting speed humps in, so access to the dirt road to Motorcity is currently blocked off. Instead you just go out on the 611 and take the first underpass, then the other one to get to the Waha turn off and head to Arabian Ranches/Studio City. I like it here and it's not as far out as people think it is. If you're on facebook try joining one of the community groups where people are happy to answer questions. Residents of Remraam - or just Remraam.

Many Emirates staff will tell you NOT to link it, they have so many issues with the EID being linked to e-gate. Far better to keep the cards seperate.

I would just love to see all you excellent and safe drivers on SZR. Most problems there are caused by inexperienced and insecure drivers. Lots of them are only used to the empty roads in Australia or US. Agree with BubblingCreek. If you refuse to adapt, stick to the ranches or beach road. Clearly you've never driven in AUS or the US! It's actually usually the drivers sat pootling along in the 4th lane, refusing to move over when they're doing less than the speed limit and forcing people to overtake/undertake them that cause many of the issues. The problems come when there are so many different standards of driving - Jordan/Lebanon/India/SriLanka (to name a few) - all far far worse than here.

What I don't understand is why they stay living in a foreign country when there is little or no advantage when they could live a similar lifestyle in their home country surrounded by friends and family. If it wasn't significantly better for us financially, I would be packed up and gone from here immediately - I would love to be living with my family. edited by mrsb. on 23/11/2013 Quite simply, climate, life-style and other reasons. I have quite a few friends who have returned to the UK after being expats for a great many years and they're treated worse than illegal immigrants - can't get bank accounts, can't get loans/mortgage/NHS treatment etc. Let alone being able to find a job in the current situation. For many people, you simply go where you can get work these days. Many people might be 2nd or 3rd generation expats and their families no longer live in their 'home' country, so to go their is like being an expat anyway and where is 'home'? <em>edited by FairyDust on 23/11/2013</em>

A white car UPSIDE down in front of the hotel at the MOE - how? I would love to know the answer to that question. Always remember driving through Sharjah - car unside down in the middle of the road, no other vehicle involved, driver walking about on the phone - how do some people do it? It's clearly a skill.

ARancher are you saying the amount your tenant pays doesn't cover the cost of your monthly mortgage? Lots of owners don't get the cost of their mortgages covered by the rent. I'm still waiting for my apartment to be handed over, IF it was handed over when it was supposed to be, I would have had to pay a difference of 2,000 dhs a month to cover the mortgage - now because of the delay, the rents have gone up and the mortgage will 'just' be covered by the rent - but it won't go anywhere near to touching the service fees and other payments that owners have to pay - so still around 20,000 dhs coming out my own pocket each year. Sadly this is what many tenants don't realise.

First off, why would you NOT report dangerous drivers? The more people who report these idiots and get them fined the better - otherwise they keep doing it. Second - you are absolutely fine to take a photo of the vehicle and number plate and send it to the police! What IS against the law, is sharing it on socila networking sites. But the police actively encourage you to send them photos/videos of dangerous drivers - evidence helps the case.

I hope this happens in Dubai. As a landlord here I have a tenant paying just under 24% per cent of the market rate according to the Rera calculator. So I can't raise the rent. I know many of you will be horrified but why should I, as a private individual, subsidise the lifestyle of almost a complete stranger? No one has given a clear answer to this except to say the laws are in place to protect tenants from greedy landlords which is not an answer to my question. The usual refrain here to almost every problem is "if you don't like it, go home" and it's just as applicable to housing too. If you can't afford the market rent, don't expect a private investor to subsidise your accommodation. I invested that money for my children's future and really resent the income I'm missing out on that should be going to them. Ladies, when you are in my shoes, you might change your point of view. edited by A Rancher on 22/11/2013 Itotally get where you're coming from. I invested hard earned cash into something and why should I have to subsidise monthly payments and be at a loss every month due to rent laws. It has to be fair to BOTH sides. There are limits.

Well the percentage rises allowed in Dubai are linked to how far out the current rent is with the surrounding market rate - for Dubai it sort of doesn't exist that much anymore anyway.

And the old chestnut 'there are other more important issues' - what and people are incapable of discussing and caring about more than one thing? Shame. Fairydust, i ran businesses involving animals for years and faced these same issues, i have little sympathy for those who dump their animals or debtors. As i have just spent over 5 k at the vets last week saving one of my rescue cats from poisoning I would hardly believe i am not compassionate when it comes to animal welfare. However, i am able to prioritize and this "case" in the scheme of the worlds issues is IMHO is seriously at the bottom of the list. It is not an animal welfare case, the animals are dead. If so many were concerned then why did they not step froward and pay the bill prior to this or rehome the animals? The answer lays within the story. I totally see your point and as I asked previously, why did the owners not ask for help earlier - all this could have been avoided to begin with. I still don't think the whole story is being told.

Strict with ratings??? I've seen people take toddlers into 16+ movies. Never known theaters here to be strict with anything. I believe some of them wont let kids of a certain age in after a certain time of night Did Grand Cinemas not start this ruling. I am sure i read it somewhere edited by sarahlou123 on 21/11/2013 Yup Grand Cinemas - no kids after 10pm. Good on them - wish the others would do that as well.

Why do you need to go to Etisalat? Just go to any retailer. But bear in mind UAE spec phones won't have FaceTime installed - do a search as this topic has been discussed so much recently and lots of suggestions as to where to get them.

Hi any reviews for good gents saloon for a good clean up or facial. I think it is called 1847 it is the Male version of the Jet Set chain There is one at JBR and Grosvenor House Hotel ( I think) Also one in Emirates Towers and Mirdiff CC - hubby goes there - very good.

OMG - I'd call him back and say you will file a police report for threatening behaviour, harrasement etc. Honestly he sounds like scum of the earth. Mostly these guys are all talk and nothing else. The LD wouldn't do anything, as he'd be breaking the law - his brother would also be breaking the law and abusing his power as a police officer and you can clearly state that you would make an official complaint against his brother if he tries to do anything. Do NOT let these people intimidate you.

With respect, we do not need a breeding controlled association in this country - there are enough pure bred dogs requiring homes every day because some (and I mean) some are so irresponsible they cannot take care of them. Additionally, a fancy dress dog competition - whatever next!! I have to agree with this. And where are the categories for 'rescue' and 'mixed' breed dogs? Is there a link to the organising website? Can't find anything online.

It's absolutely real. If you look carefully at the road, you can see the white lines on the left, which guide the left-hand truck to move away - the right truck stays straight.
