Having a child in car without a proper seat and belt should be regarded as child abuse. Only front seat passengers must wear seat belts by law.... for such a family oriented country this area is so sadly lacking.... :( I agree. We were on the Palm at the weekend and a big 4X4 zoomed past us with 2 small heads poking out of the sunroof. Imagine if the driver suddenly braked. In instances like this the parents should be prosecuted. But people who allow this simply don't care. I can't count how many times I've spoken to people who do it and they just tell you to mind your own business. Even if something tragic happens, they'll never learn.

Sadly it's a lack of education - not knowing the dangers - and ignorance - people just don't care. Buckle up UAE do a fantastic job of going round schools giving lessons and educating the children as to why they should wear seat belts. Maybe you should contact Lesley (the lady who runs it) and ask her to come and speak at your school.

Do the police really care about these small town scammers? Yes, they take it very seriously. It's not small time at all - it's a huge scam gig. You can hear loads of them in the background.

Mmm seems they are 'over buffing' my nails then. I find biosculpture far more hard wearing. The thing that ticks me off, is that 'certain' salons will only the do 'everlasting' biosculpture on short nails, for longer nails, they do a refill as it's more of a gel-like product that Gelish or Shellac. You go, you basically contribute to the industry. There are many things I'd love to see, but I won't contribute to cruelty to do it. Um does that even exist? lol Not on my I Phone it doesn't It wouldn't even connect at Atlantis on Fri :-( Same - there tends to be a lot of 'blackspots' at gigs. None of my phones have ever got decent data and that includes BB's, iphones.

This rules out hotels and golf clubs as they require a license for every performer who will sing or play at a cost of dhs750 each!! Its meant to be a casual affair with friends singing or playing acoustic music as and when they want to. Not correct actually! They only have to 'pay' for the licences if it's a public performance. The hotels can get the permissions done, without charge for private events. I did this for my wedding reception.

To say I am absolutely fuming would be an understatement - long story short - due to the incompetence of the bank I have my mortgage with and dragging their feet, we missed the deadline to pay the registration fees at 2% and are now being copped for the 4% - no small increase. The article in Arabian Business was incorrect and it's still 4% for the initial registration from the developer. At every turn, it's been the investor who has been penalized, even though the developer and bank are both in breach of contract - there's not a thing that can be done about it. I suppose I just have to count my lucky stars that after 6 years of waiting, at least we get a property. Anyone else fallen foul of this?

Gelish/Shellac/biosculpture will protect your nails? Yes and no. Whilst it's a great covering and lasts ages - I now use Biosculpture as it's even more hard waring - the fact that the technicians files down the tops of your nails and nail bed - as the covering can be quite thick - will obviously weaken them. I can only use these products for a couple of months at a time, before I have to give my nails a break. And my nails are hard as anything and virtually grow over night.

While i agree with the sentiment of getting rescue animals, if i have small children then i would never get a rescue dog just because you do not truly know their history and would only buy a puppy from a recommended and visited breeder. . Sadly this is a gross misconception and plenty of rescue shelters have PUPPIES - so they haven't had the chance to develop behaviour issues etc. Rescues don't all come as fully grown animals. My rescue boy was 12 weeks old when I got him.

Whilst an outburst and insulting people isn't justified - I find it utterly pathetic that 'some' people can't fight their own battles and go running to 'daddy'. Seriously, aren't there real criminals that need to be dealt with by the police and the courts, instead of wasting their time and money on silly things like this. The guy needed to grow a backbone!

Please don't 'buy' a puppy. There are no ethical breeders in the UAE and all the pups in pet shops are imported from puppy mills, mostly in Eastern Europe - coming from vile conditions. There are literally hundreds of dogs, crying for their forever homes in shelters and foster homes across the UAE and many many litters of pups in desperate need of homes. Take a look at K9 Friends, Animals Action Abu Dhabi, Sharjah Cats and Dogs Shelter RAK shelter, Dubai Dogs Trust, Dubai Senior Dogs project. All have animals desperately seeking homes. Also, hate to say it, but animals as presents are never really a good idea - you could possibly be the one who ends up taking care of it. It should be a family discussion and agreement and then IF you all decide that you want a dog, you need to consider the time, care and financial implications - the biggest will be taking the animal with you when you leave the UAE, whcih will start at anything from 10,000 - 20,000 Dhs. Please think carefully.

As others have said, impossible to give opinions without knowing exactly what happened. But as someone who has worked in a nursery school, things like that aren't normally done without the parent being informed or for very good reason.

Well I hate to say it, but that's the risk anyone takes when they buy property! Far too many people thought they could make a quick buck. Rent prices cannot continue to go up, when people aren't getting paid the salaries to afford it. Many companies now don't give separate housing allowance either. I rent, but am just about to be handed over a property I bought in 2007!!! THere's no way, I the rent I can charge will cover the mortgage, so I just have to suck it up for the time being. And that's the way it goes. I admire your realistic attitude, but just wonder why you wouldn't stop paying rent and move into your own property? Bit less to suck up that way, surely? Because I bought a 1 bed back in 2007, when I was single. The apartment is only just being handed over now and I'm married with 3 pets and lots of stuff! Not enough room.

Why don't you try one of the second hand dealers, like the Al Futtaim Automall - that way you also get a 1 year warranty with any vehicle and they can sort insuracne etc out for you as well.

I just think tattoos are offensive !! lol I don't understand why people have tattoos in a foreign language, if they do not speak or understand that language. I am not against them though. :-) Because it's more aesthetically pleasing. My brother has his wifes name and the names of his children all in Japanese - they look fantastic. If you need to call apple service, they know from the serial number, where and when the device was bought and they also know which market it was ring fenced for. For instance, I purchased my iPhone 3GS several years ago from Etisalat BEFORE Apple were officially distributing here and consequently they will not provide me with technical support because of this. No, but the shops selling them all have technicians who could probably resolve the issue anyway. It's up to individual people. Buy and unlocked UK/US one direct from the apple store then and have it shipped.

Saying uou can't do anything and sitting idly by, is far worse than at least trying! Can compassion and empathy be taught? Unfortunately the lesson I would like to teach these people is perhaps not strictly legal. Of course it can! Being cruel to something is a learned behaviour afterall.

Correct, you only get FaceTime with unofficial import phones. Government rules require that all iPhones sold through official channels (e.g. from Etisalat or Du outlets) cannot have FaceTime. Grr - does anyone understand the consequences of buying an unofficial import? Does it affect the guarantee etc in any way? When paying that kind of money I need it to be above board. The shop you buy it from, would probably give you the warranty. How would anyone know where you bought it from anyway? And it's not like your buying the phones illegally - they are freely available for sale in electrical stores in shopping malls. It's all completely legal. <em>edited by FairyDust on 12/11/2013</em>

they are still repeating the same episodes of series 1 of KUWTK on OSN from 6 years ago! I thought the whole point of having this recording option on the remote control is so that each programme isnt repeated on a 4 hour cycle! UAE tv is one big repeat! Drives me mental. Yep, just set it up to record and watch at your own leisure - great idea :-)

And yet everything they've stated in the press and when you call them says 12 months! *insert cuckoo rolling googly eyes smiley here* Makes no sense.

are you able/is it possible to have it installed on UAE phones at all? No! This is what many of you are confuesd about. FT is not an installable application, it either comes pre-installed on the phone or it doesn't. If a phone (UAE spec) doesn't have it, it cannot be installed. Hence the need to buy an unlocked phone from another territory.

Loads of threads on this at the moment. Go to one of the little electrical stores and buy and unlocked US or UK one HERE. No need to buy from apple and pay extra tax etc. They will work fine elsewhere.

wild_cat, just to note that making the basic salary minimal (so they pay less gratuity) is standard across the board. The majority of peoples salaries are made up of allowances.

Is it a lie? Yes and no. It's true that they changed the whole enployement visa thing from 3 to 2 years and stated that only certain people can change jobs before the two year mark without being penalised. Companies are liable for all visa costs etc - also not necessarily true. They're supposed to be, but I've worked for two companies and footed the cost of the visa - it happens more than people realise. (and these are government companies I might add). They brought in the 2 year rule to stop people jumping from job to job and also to make it easier for people to move within the job market - work for 2 years then you can find another job without being banned etc.
