If you buy an unlocked UK or US one here - then yes. Getting a UAE spec one I don't think has FT on it. COuld be wrong though, but that's usually been the case.

Ladies, with all due respect, do any of you actually report these incidents to the police? Or just write them on here? No one on here can do anything about it - the police CAN.

Reminds me of a letter in a certain paper recently 'things newbies tell us that we already know!'. Joking aside. Welcome to Dubai - sadly you just have to get used to it. Expect things to take a long time and for many things to be completely inefficient.

ANother thing that might be useful, is that granted certain questions come up so many times - why not make them sticky threads? So the information is readily available and easy to find and posters can just add new info as and when it changes. Save the same thing being asked a bazillion times.

Pretty much what FBJ said. It's meant to heckle some people who seem to do nothing but sit and vent, rant etc at others all day. Go and get your own life instead of meddling in others.

Try a diet of totally unprocessed foods (Ie. nothing from a packet) with a balance of carbs: 20-30% protein: 30% fats: 40-50% Fats should be good fats such as EVOO, Grapeseed oil, Avacados, salmon, oily fish etc etc - not a slab of butter and a spoon of cream. I hate it when people put percentages like this - it doesn't work for everyone, because everyone is different. See those would be a disaster for me! I'm more like 50% protein, 30% carbs, 20% fat. And Yes Izzy, GOOD fats.

Sad that SM got banned. The banning thing is all a bit silly. Warnings are a better way to go. The same questions just get asked over and over and mostly things that can easily be googled. I also think the idea that people can't 'chat' either ruins it for many people. Also, these days, what forum doesn't have a PMing system? None that I know of.

I know it's too late for you guys now, but next time careem.com - private taxi company. Pre-bookings or NOW bookings. Yes they are more expensive, but they turn up on time and it's more like a private driver service.

Those calling TDB have clearly never had to organise anything like this - weddings are stressful. It can be one of the most frustrating and stressful things you can ever organise. I basically did everything myself, but decided to just do something small, with a few close friends - couldn't be bothered of the drama of something massive. TDB, find someone else to deal with everything on the day - you are meant to enjoy it, not be running round after people making sure everything is perfect. Guests trying to invite others? No way! You have a list, it's a wedding, they can't just bring anyone. How hard is it really to understand that it's a wedding - dress codes apply - don't look like a tramp or a clubber - it's not brain surgery. I do hope you have a wonderful day and good luck with everything.

It's hard to recommend anything as perfumes smell different on different people, depending on the acidity of their skin. One might smell lovely on one person can be absolutely vile on another. You're best bet is to try lots of different ones out - and don't forget the coffee beans to 'cleanse' the nose.

HotRice, funny you should say that. The thought did cross my mind. I go up an average of around 3 kilos the week before, so it could very well be the case for mrsbiju. I second, myfitnesspal - it's a great way to track what you're eating.

Things like this very often boil down to eating the wrong foods. Things that fill you up in the short term, but leave you hungry later on. BMI is VERY rough estimate, as it only takes inot account weight vs height - not a persons build, activity level etc so don't put too much stock on that. There's nothing wrong with eating, it's about eating the right foods at the right times. Working long hours always tends to make people eat more as well, as you can be bored during the day and just eat stuff without realising you don't actually need it.

I'd like just a few minutes in a room with whoever is doing this! wow - how do you know that this was there intention to kill dogs? Maybe it was meant for rats - and was just an accident that dogs were killed. No! It;s intentinal, given that several were found covered in petrol as well!

Thank you, Ladies. What do you Mean by referral From my GP, Amelia? Thanks! For screening tests like ultrasounds and mammograms, that are quite expensive - a GP needs to refer you for it i.e. there has to be a reason to do it, rather than just an exam performed by your doctor.

I have to say, I thought it one of the most irresponsible and ridiculous promotions I've ever come across! People were likely to crash diet and do stupid things, in a bid to lose a lot to win some gold. People aren't monitored by nutritionists or health professionals. Losing weight and being healthy is a lifestyle - not a quick thing. This is up there with that daft radio ad 'discounts based on your waist size' - stupid, stupid, stupid!

The UK/US phones are available on the 'grey' market as they call it. You won't find them in the big national retailers or from Etisalat or DU, but the small electrical stores.

Well I hate to say it, but that's the risk anyone takes when they buy property! Far too many people thought they could make a quick buck. Rent prices cannot continue to go up, when people aren't getting paid the salaries to afford it. Many companies now don't give separate housing allowance either. I rent, but am just about to be handed over a property I bought in 2007!!! THere's no way, I the rent I can charge will cover the mortgage, so I just have to suck it up for the time being. And that's the way it goes.

Is it common for landlords to be open to negotiation on the rent price or do the majority stick with the advertised price? There's always room for negitiation! If you don't ask, you don't get. The 'advertised' price might not be a true reflection of the surrounding area and just someone trying their luck. Always try to find out what others are paying for similar properties in the area. edited by FairyDust on 05/11/2013

This is getting very serious now. Posted on the City Vet FB page: WARNING TO ALL PET OWNERS: In the past 2-3 weeks at least 12 dogs have died due to poisoning in the Al Qudra / Arabian Ranches area. We are also aware of similar cases in other areas of Dubai. It is believed to be either Strychnine or Metaldahyde poison that is being used. It is a fast acting poison, taking effect in less than 1hour and results in death. Symptoms include: Seizures, muscle contractions, foaming from the mouth, vomiting and diarrhea. We ask you help spread the word and be extra vigilant when walking your dogs in all areas. Where possible keep your dogs on a leash and do not allow them to eat or lick anything whilst out. Should you suspect your dog has been poisoned you should contact a Veterinarian immediately.

I think to be guaranteed FT, you'll need to go to one of the little electrical stores and get a UK or IS unlocked one. The store I got my iphone 5 from in MCC, said they were going to be selling the 5s for 2,500 - 3,000 - they hadn't worked it out yet. But I bartered over the price and got free stuff with mine.

Except it's not really about supply and demand here, because the Dubai property market is manipulated and artificial. Yup and this is the problem - people believe it and take the Mickey. Salaries aren't going up to compensate - the 2nd bubble and burst is coming if people don't watch it.

Certain nationalities have to be 'invited' by a resident and sponsored by them. Not sure, seeing as you're not related, that he could do this anyway. I believe security bonds have to be placed aswell. Bascially he'd be responsible for her whilst she's here. Certainly not a responsibility to take lightly.

I thought that I read a while back that non-renewable contracts weren't allowed, as it's basically giving LL's the green light to turf people out and hike up the rent. Might be worth putting in a call to RERA about it. From doing a bit of googling, it would appear that you can ONLY be given a non-renewable contract IF the LL has given 12 months notice to a tenant - and then he is not allowed to rent out the property for two years. edited by FairyDust on 03/11/2013

The rent prices have gone nuts and to be honest, the majority of it is all based on speculation - it's not a real reflection of what the market is doing. People are trying their luck. There are so many projects being released now, supply still greatly outstrips demand.

Do they even still exist? Everyone uses MP3 players these days. A personal CD player would be so big and clunky in comparison. Any particular reason why you'd choose that, over ripping your cd's into a digital player? To help you out - look at ebay - lots listed on their - many in original packaging. edited by FairyDust on 02/11/2013

If it's a UAE spec phone, it's unlikely it will have facetime. You need a UK or US unlocked one. IF you buy from souq, make sure it's a BIG retailer, not an individual - as there will be no warranties should anything go wrong. Personally, I bought a UK unlocked Iphone 5 from one of those little electronics stores ( I went to Mirdiff CC) bartered over the price and go free accessories. You might want to look at that as an option instead. I've only ever had issues with souq, won't ever use them again. edited by FairyDust on 02/11/2013
