I;m sorry for the lad and his situation. But if the doctors are saying it's down to his poor lifestyle, then what they really need to be focused on is how to repvent it happening again in future. Sometimes things just happen. I had a friend in his early 30's, health freak, didn't smoke, didn't drunk - dropped dead of a heart defect nobody ever knew about. Perhaps this is your friends brothers wake-up call that he needs to sort his life out - take heed of the lesson and make some changes, instead of looking for someone to blame.

Why would people find it weird she's not on her husbands visa? Many married couples are the visas of their respective companies - it's not weird at all. In the interest of the child, it would be better if you are married - otherwise many questions can be asked. Whilst cohabiting with someone of the opposite gender is illegal unless you're married or related, the authorities mostly turn a blind eye - so long as you don't annoy people or get into trouble. People tend to scare monger about this issue A LOT. It's better to have the facts and the reality, then make up your own mind. But in your case with a child - it really is necessary. <em>edited by FairyDust on 08/09/2013</em>

I think part of the problem is that many women use EW as a source of information when they're new or even before they move, but are not necessarily forum savvy.. If you're not used to the ways of message boards it can be quite a shock to see how some types of women "talk"... I don't think that's the case. I think some people are just mean for the sake of it. Certainly people on twitter call frequenters of this forum worse and have a right laugh at some of the threads.

I can recommend eMovers. Have used them several times. They rock up with an entire team, dismantle everything, transport it, then reassemble it. They went above and beyond for us. Couldn't fault them and very competitive on price as well.

What reason is he giving for evicting you? If you're willing to pay an increase as per the going market rate - he can't kick you out. Check all the regulations here: http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/can-landlord-evict-tenant-before-dubai-tenancy-contract-expires-2012-12-23-1.488271 It states very clearly at the end that the notice HAS to come through a notary and registered post. And he can only evict you IF he is going to move in himself. <em>edited by FairyDust on 05/09/2013</em>

With that many dogs - not really. You could try pet sitters like Homely Petz who will look after them in your own home, but that can cost as much as kenneling. I think you need to find a friend who might be willing to house/pet sit for you. Sadly this is the issue with having so many pets - I have the same.

You'll need to contact peoples advertising on Dubizzle or agents for that. From what I gather, many of the apartments haven't been handed over yet and they're being done all the time.

The developer is DPG, but Taziz have taken over as the management company. I have a 2 bed - there are 3 different 2 bed layouts, some have bigger balconies/terraces than others. The thing that gets me, is we have a huge terrace yet it's out the master bedroom?! Bananas! The finishing on the units isn't great at all. I now have plaster bubbling up away from the brick work - obviously damp was in there. People have had a lot of issues to start with. I used Group Seven as the agents for mine - very good to deal with.

mwashington, for your reading pleasure... [url=http://www.khaleejtimes.com/Displayarticle.asp?section=theuae&xfile=data/theuae/2005/april/theuae_april946.xml'>link[/url'> Over the decade i have been here, i have brought in Nurophen plus more times than i recall... Have yet to spend a night at the Hilton. But just because you haven't been stopped, doesn't make it right. The point is, people shouldn't brag that they've done it and encourage others. Everytime you do it, you take a calculated risk. Encouraging people to break the law is not right. Once a person has all the information and knows the risks, it's then up to them to make up their own mind. But for some to actively encourage it, is just wrong. And again I'll say, bragging and encouraging it on an open forum - not smart! Admin should remove this thread. <em>edited by FairyDust on 02/09/2013</em>

There's no need to be rude quite frankly. Any responsible traveller would research what is and isn't allowed and do the necessary, either in terms of not bringing those meds or if they need to, have the correct paper work. Codeine is on the controlled/banned list - getting caught with these carries a potential jail term of up to 4 years. That is the LAW!!! Encouraging people to break/ignore the laws is irresponsible. IF you're going to live here, I suggest you learn to respect the laws of the country you choose to live in. And suggesting people break the law on an open forum - not a smart idea either. <em>edited by FairyDust on 02/09/2013</em>

The worse that will happen is that they will make you discard it when you get here - but that is seriously unlikely. If it happens, you just say sorry and move on. Honestly, how do you all get through life paranoid like this? Sadly that definitely is NOT the worst that can happen and people are paranoid, because people have been jailed here for less!!!! It simply is not worth taking the risk. edited by FairyDust on 02/09/2013 No they haven't! Name one instance where someone has been jailed for bringing in a small quantity of a prescription cough syrup? This is precisely the paranoia that people get when they don't understand where they live. Not cough syrup but people have run into issues bringing in controlled substances without the correct paperwork. You can just be the wrong person that they pick on. Rules and regulations are in place. It's not wise to encourage people to ignore them. Plus I've lived here for over a decade - I understand EXACTLY where I live! I have also, myself been prescribed controlled drugs here, so know fully well what paper work is required for them. <em>edited by FairyDust on 02/09/2013</em>

To those who lecture on how one should never take loans, how do you suggest people pay for 6 months or a years housing if a company does not give a lumpsum years worth housing allowance? Given this option, I would think the better option is not to accept the job offer if it means starting off in debt. Most newcomers dont know about the absurd 1 cheque system until they come here. Ignorance is not an excuse - that information is readily available. It's not much better in other countries. The difference is, people can protect themselves with payment protection insurance - which isn't readily offered here. You can negotiated elsewhere. The UAE isn't geared to deal with certain issues - yet.

I love the girls at Salon Ink and have only ever had good experiences with them. Yes, they can be a bit on the pricey side, but having had so many hair disasters in Dubai, I'm prepared to pay a bit extra to have someone do a good job on my hair. Kelly and Delma are my go to girls there.

The UAE has it's own Autotrader, so you can advertise there. Also what is really useful, head to autocheck.ae - put in all your cars details, as much info as you can, and it will tell you the value of your car and how much you should be selling it for. It even gives breakdown prices of what a dealer would offer you, private sale etc etc. On your advert put 'strictly NO time wasters, the advertised price IS the final price and is NOT negotiable' - usually gets rid of the tri-hards.

Sadly the dirt road is no longer an option, unless you have a 4x4 as DEWA are building a substation right in the middle of it. I would assume at some point a connecting road will be built, as it is at the moment, you come out, use one under pass to head towards Sharjah, then the next one to head back to Motor city - takes about 15 minutes. It's nice. A big mix of nationalities, families, singles, couples etc. The apartments are pretty good, but the finishing isn't great and EVERYONE has ac issues when they move in - it can take a while to get everything sorted. The swimming pools, childrens play areas etc are nice. There are places that deliver from Motor City, which is good.

Nothing stops you just getting on a plane and leaving - if nothing has been registered with the authorities, they won't know. It's a really tough one. So many people have got into trouble and tried to negotiated with banks and tried to do the right thing, only to be basically held hostage in this country, with no way of working to even begin to pay off a debt - so I can fully understand why some people leave in a hurry. I think for international debt collectors to be involved, it has to be over a certain amount owing and then most won't have jurisdiction to do anything other than threaten people. I feel sorry for people who find themselves in this position. I guess the bank will repossess the apartment.

Judging by your typing, I'd say your English is excellent! I can't remember what it's called, but there is a group who meet and do a sort of language exchange. So basically you speak to native speakers to improve your skills. Which might be more beneficial to you than a formal class.

The creams usually take 6-8 weeks to get rid of them, they're not an overnight cure. Seeing as you have these, have any of your doctors recommended you have an HPV test to see what strains are causing it? I only ask, because several of the HPV strains, put you at a higher risk of cervical issues.

Sadly much of the process supposedly driving increases is speculation. The media/agents/owners are all guilty of that. People buying and 'flipping' properties don't help either. Dubai is heading for another bubble and crash. It barely survived the first one. Everyone is 'assuming' Dubai is a favourite for Expo. We'll just have to wait and see on that one. But the palce is becoming too expensive again and the authorities need to start putting caps on rent and prices otherwise it'll spiral out of control.

I hate to say it, but I would tend to agree with TDB. Sometimes our bodies become symptomatic becaue of stress/pollution and a whole other range of reasons. I will give you a really good example. My father was very ill his last year in Dubai, you could set your watch by the heart palpitations he'd have, hot and cold sweats, big veins, lots of other things going on. He spent 3 weeks in the Welcare hospital, had every test under the sun, sw every specialist - they even consulted a cardiac specialist in Germany - NOTHING! When he left the UAE, all his symptoms suddenly disappeared. We now put it down to a stressful job, bad climate, too much pollution etc. Maybe you need to take a holiday somewhere 'clean', fresh air, relax and see how you are then. My mother also suffers enlarged veins and swelling in the heat - it's pretty common. If you can stand it, have you tried support tights to restrict the blood flow? <em>edited by FairyDust on 27/08/2013</em>

You wouldn't prescribe Lamictal for insomnia. It's used to treat epilepsy and bi-polar disorder. It's used as a mood stabilizer. I suffer terribly with episodes of insomnia. As mcsk says use only prescribed meds as an absolute last resort. I drink hot milk with honey, it's a natural relaxant. Also having a set routine helps. Having a bit of time to relax and calm the mind is very important.

Who defines what the caliber *should* be? It's a word that puts my teeth on edge with it's connotations of elitism. This board represents a massive spread of population, all of whom bring to it a wealth of very different lifestyles, backgrounds and experiences. Who is to say that any ones views are wrong, or not good enough just because they don't come in line with your own? *LIKE*
