Not sure if Emirates still gives the furniture allowance. With regards to driving, do you have a license? There's a list of countries where you can directly transfer your license to a UAE one, without having to do lessons or a test, so check on that. Otherwise Al Ahli is very good. With internet providers, there are only two - Etisalat or DU and normally you won't have a choice, it's whoever is available on a specific area. Sorry Yose your info on US Netflix isn't correct - I have a US account and access it with no issues using the 'you know what'. Netflix hasn't banned anything. It's the tecomms operators that will have banned the specific 'you know what' people are using. But you do need a US address and sometimes a US credit card to subscribe to it.

Sadly he's right. Much of the piping is very narrow, so you have to use less paper or do a couple of flushes. Want to know the best plunger to use? Get a mop, wrap a towel around the head, cover with a plastic bag and use that as a plunger - works better than any shop bought one.

I think people are confusing an internship and a job - two totally different things and it's only for 6 months. You're here to learn, that's the whole point of it. What happens after that though? Would the company offer a permanent position? Would you go back home? You need to 'outsmart' the system to use whatsapp? er no you don't it's freely available to use.

I have a six month rental through Budget at 1400 dhs a month. WiFi / TV - tv packages are expensive here and it's mostly constant repeats of US shows. There's a few UK channels. UAE Netflix is available, but many people have UK / US accounts using a 3 letter device that can't be named. You can stream UK tv shows through various apps and download also.

Well it really depends what the business is. To legally sell anything, you need a trade license. If it's anything to do with food - although lots of people seem to do it, you should have licenses for that as well. It's not about FB rules, it's about trade rules of the UAE>

I think the UK is a good option for many reasons. Is your husband a British citizen/overseas citizen? Or is the company going to sponsor him? It's worth noting that they're really clamping down on the citizenship rules and you have to have intent to stay in the UK permanently to get it. Staying 5 years, expecting to get the passport, then wanting to move on - it's not going to happen. As others have said, cost of living varies greatly depending on where you choose to live, but certainly people aren't as materialistic so you save plenty on what people consider the 'norm' in Dubai. Public transport in and around cities is also very good, so you could forego the need for a car for a while, that's also a big money saver.

LT, it was the dismissive tone of OP's post 'I'm not aware...nor believe' - so can't even be bothered to entertain it. This isn't tolerant at all. Some cultures have many such beliefs, so to just sweep it aside really isn't nice at all. How hard is it to change her schedule so she doesn't do these things one after the other? It isn't really is it?! It took me all of 5 minutes to Google what it was and to realise that a whole country basically has this belief. Perhaps if people stopped to think that others might have different beliefs etc to them and had a bit of understanding towards it, these issues can be avoided. Why should she be 'convinced' of something? Honestly, people have to stop this train of thought, that just because someone believes something different to them, it makes them wrong.

Basically there's a limit as to how much weight all the equipment can take. The more weight, the bigger canopy (parachute) you need, commercial chutes don't come as big as military ones, so they have weight restrictions. Don't forget you have to add in the weight of the instructor, all the equipment weighs a lot, plus the harnesses also have a limited weight tolerance. One major factor is, don't forget in a tandem jump, you are strapped to the instructor - he has to take ALL the weight on landing - that can cause injuries to them. This is why drop zones have weight limits. It's really not personal, it's for safety reasons for all involved.

Well I'm shocked by some of the replies. Aren't we taught to be tolerant and respectful of other peoples beliefs? IF you actually bother to research it, it's a VERY common belief by Filipinos and it has a name - Pasma! It's the thought that sudden changes in temperature i.e. going from a hot activity - like ironing, doing laundry, to using cold water, going to a fridge/freezer causes shaking and circulation problems in the extremities. It's studied and acknowledged by medical professionals in the Philippines, who can't yet decide whether it's an actually medical ailment or a psychological belief from old wives tales - but many Filipinos believe it. Koreans have something similar - it's called 'fan death'. So before you so rudely disregard someones complaint or belief, maybe look into it. Here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasma Just because YOU don't consider something to be true, doesn't mean it isn't 100% FACT for someone else.

People 'letting it go' is why they take people for a ride in the first place and get away with it. Don't know where 'bomb threat' came from - at no point was that ever mentioned. A threatening phone call was received that sparked an evacuation. Curious what the threat was if it wasn't a bomb threat? Point is, you can't actually say that unless confirmed and mentioned in an official statement from the police or Dubai Media office - and it wasn't.

Well there's a couple of trains of thought on this one. Dogs are happy to just be with their owners. But if like you say, does your dog get lonely when you're out - the answer is undoubtedly yes. The advantages to having two dogs, is that they keep each other company. They socialise better with other dogs. Because your dog is older, it's not really recommended to have a puppy, as they can be too active and annoying for older dogs already set in their ways. Because your dog is female, some would say a neutered male would be the best fit - but again, depends on your dog really. Why don't you try fostering another dog and see how that goes? Or take your dog to one of the shelters to meet other dogs and see how she gets on? You'd just have to be really aware that if you brought another dog into your family, that your current dog might get a bit defensive as another dog is 'invading her territory'.

To be honest I think that's scary wording. There are so many variables and the laws have changed a lot. As I said previously, if you have a degree and earn over a certain amount, you don't need to complete two years and can leave at any point after probation, giving 30 days notice, without penalty. The 6 month labour ban has been lifted for many people and just doesn't apply and isn't an issue anymore. Therefore there simply is no breach of contract, unless it's a limited contract or the employee or employer does something to put themselves in breach. All the recent changes to the labour law, are to free up the labour market and make it easier for people to move from one position to another, at the same time encouraging employers to treat their staff better, to avoid them being poached or leaving for a better position. Things are a LOT more flexible these days.

Marriage is a life term commitment but there is divorce. There is no such thing as a contract you cannot get out of - the issue tends to be what you are going to have to pay to get out of it. And I believe in this case you will have to pay 1 month salary and some employment created costs. Your contract is clear. You have been told that you have a contract of 2 years but if you would like to end it, you may do so by following this procedural steps. Many companies have their own contracts alongside the Ministry of Labour contract, and these normally outline the condition of termination from your side. Those contracts are not enforceable by the MOL, they are enforced by the employer or employee in the civil court (breach of contract). Let's liken this one to a prenuptial agreement that differs from the actual contract of marriage. But OP says her contract is for a MINIMUM OF 2 YEARS - therefore it's an unlimited contract, renewable every 2 years. If it was simply a 2 year contract, the employment would end at 2 years - which this doesn't seem to be the case. Ah sorry OP - lightbulb moment. It just means that after you've completed your probation, should you or the employer wish to terminate the contract, you give 30 days notice - this can happen at any time and is pretty standard. So long as you'd complete the 30 days, or they'd give you 30 days pay instead of notice, there's usually nothing to pay and you wouldn't face a labour ban under the new laws, so long as everything was done properly. Don't worry about it, it's standard.

There have been recent changes to the labour laws, that came into effect on 1st January. People are normally required to complete 2 years with their company before they may leave and look for another job, without incurring a labour ban. This does not apply is you have a degree and/or earn over a certain amount. The 30 days notice is standard and now certain workers, are not committed to completing two years and may leave and change jobs - that's CERTAIN workers, not all. It's all about as clear as mud really, but that's about as clear as I can make it.

I completely agree with you about the shocking value for money offered by Du. But a solution to your Emmerdale fix is to install FilmOn on your iPad and record it directly from ITV in the UK. And it sounds like there's a problem with your Internet speed or router signal because even Du isn't that bad that you can only use one device at a time. Are you in a villa or an apartment? Thanks Ava Marina I do hav Filmon already installed and have managed to catch quite a few of the episodes already. It's just remembering and being at home when it's transmitted that's my problem? I just mentioned your tip about the router/ speed to my husband and he's said that he's checked the speed and our router was quite an expensive one. We've noticed that this issue has occurred since he brought me an IPad Mini from the UK. Strange!!!!!! The cost of the router makes zero difference. We have a dual band router and usually have some devices connected normally and others to the 5g. There are definitely certain times of the evening when the speed slows down. But we usually have 2 laptops, an ipad and an apple tv connected with no issues. Also you definitely do not get the speed you pay for. It's shocking.

You see, I'm confused. I heard it was illegal for me to freelance as a journalist. But then along comes Uber and all those drivers must be freelance, right? No it's not. There are freelance media visas and journalism is covered under them - I know several people who do this. Or you set up your own company and put yourself as a Media consultant, which covers everything. The actual issue with working from home, is it's illegal to carry out a commercial business from a residential property. It puts you in breach of your tenancy contract. This is why language tutors have been caught and fined. Right but my point is without a specific visa, it is not legal. And the visa is quite expensive for the rate of pay that one expects as a freelance journalist. But the big question is, how is it legal to be an Uber driver? Well I do know that many of the Careem drivers are employed by companies, who offer the chauffer services to hotels and then the drivers freelance for Careem/Uber (as many work for both) or themselves. No idea how it works under those conditions.

It's a personal opinion, that I don't think it looks nice on young children and that they should have the choice. Everyone's ears are different, some close, some don't. Some are sensitive to certain metals, others aren't, because, gosh what a shocker - everyone's body is different and reacts in different ways. Also it's not recommended to use these numbing creams for certain procedures, as it can actually affect the way the skin takes to something. Just FYI.

Tessa, I think you'll find it can be a cultural thing- personally, being British I find babies or young children with pierced ears totally bleurghhh and would no way inflict such pain on my own children, not to mention the general faff they are too young to understand (keeping the wounds clean, remembering to turn the earrings, not getting them caught and tearing the lobe etc..) but here you will see other nationalities who find it quite normal...Ironic that mums complain about their precious babies having to endure horrible sharp needles for vaccinations lol but each to their own !! DT, while I agree with you that it is very much a cultural thing, I find your post a bit judgmental. The actual ear piercing is pain free if you use Emla cream. My DD didn't even wince! She happily looked around and played with us while the doctor did the procedure, which really took about half a minute. We kept the wound clean for her (she's only a year old) and it just takes seconds to swipe around the earring with an alcohol swab. I don't know why you would need to turn the earrings? You have to keep them in for a month and then you can change them. As for getting caught, it's probably more of a concern with hoops rather than the stud earrings which are commonly used. BTW, there is a recent law in Dubai which only allows doctors to do ear piercings. Nurses are not allowed to do it, and definitely not jewellery shops. I had mine done by a licensed jeweller when I was a teenager and it was horrible and painful at that age. I wished my parents had done it for me when I was a baby. If my DD doesn't want to wear earrings in the future, she can simply choose not to and the holes will close on their own. You turn earrings in new piercings to rebruise the hole and make it heal faster. It also stops the skin getting stuck to the piercing. And no sorry, sadly the holes DON'T close. If you've had earrings or any kind of piercing for that matter, for years, they never close up completely and you'll always have a hole. I had a second set of piercings in my ears, I haven't worn earrings in them for years, yet I can still get an earring through if I want to, and the holes are still very much visible. Personally I also think earrings in young children look awful. They should have them when they're old enough to decide they want them, IF they want them.
