That's the international standard. They're only doing what everyone else does. As FD rightly points out, the grace/buffer/leeway or whatever you want to call it is in place for a reason and exists all over the world. It is legal and the police do not hide it. In fact, publicising it makes much more sense. The quality of the newer roads here is outstanding and the limits and buffers are put in place accordingly. Bigger, wider roads have bigger buffers and smaller, narrower roads have smaller buffers. The people who cause speeding accidents are either driving way over the limit or way under the limit, actually! Plus, how often do you get a chance to even drive close to the speed limit with the traffic jams we face on a daily basis, thanks to all the lovely drivers who feel the need to change lanes every five seconds because the other one seems faster  Urgh the lane changers do my head in and they NEVER get any further either. It's very frustrating to me that in the UAE you have massive 6 lane highways, but so many traffic issues on them, because people don't drive properly. Yet in somewhere like Germany, where you have a two lane autobahn, with NO speed limit and everything moves and is great with no issues, purely because people are disciplined, courteous and stick to the road rules.

The speed limit is 100. There's usually a grace limit of 20km above the limit. They do this because it's very hard to expect people to drive bang on the limit - cars all run differently, plus people can be slightly over or under. They have been putting sneaky temporary cams about though. The Police and RTA are running a 'black spot' programme and will be reducing limits on certain roads.

The temporary UAE license doesn't exist anymore. The general rule is, no they can't. Some insurers will tell you yes, but if they have an accident, it would be down to the police officer dealing with the situation. The usual advise is - don't risk it.

Advertise cheaply I just started my own business and i would like to drum up new business - where is the best and cheapest (read free) place to advertise? Congrats Izzy. Social media is the way to go. Create a facebook page for your company and twitter account. Follow a few good 'influencers' contact them, get them to review your products/business. Word of mouth and good endorsement is far more valuable and easier than paying for advertising these days.

You'll just have to go and pay for it yourself. I believe usually consultations cost around 350 dhs. But you can call your usual practice and ask how much they charge.

It's not what it's cracked up to be, as they're leaving out all the 'add-ons' that bump up the prices. So not really cheaper at all.

Having just gone through this with HSBC, they WILL freeze your account - well you'll only be able to do basic transactions on it - once they receive your EOSB. I avoided this, by requesting my old company to give me two cheques, one which was my salary, holiday pay etc etc which they gave directly to me. The other cheque which was the gratuity which they send directly to the bank, stating that it's your EOSB. I requested they ONLY send the EOSB cheque once I had my new visa and had updated all my details with the bank. I did all this and avoided all these complications. DON'T bother talking to customer service or collections as they send you round and round. It was only after I vented on social media, that a decision maker got in touch with his personal details and assisted me in avoiding all this hassle. It varies from bank to bank whether they will use the cash as monthly payments or use the entire amount towards a lump sum payment. Basically I was told they wanted the entire thing paid off in one go - I actually managed to do that. Always have a secondary account with another bank.

If the company refuses a salary certificate, then she will have to provide 3 months bank statements - for whatever it is - stamped and certified by the bank.

I can't get Skype to work for me in Dubai. When I make a call, it sounds like the other person is under water and if video is on, calls keep dropping. Also, I can never make Skype to phone calls. Any suggestions on what to do to get around this? Skype to phone calls are blocked, as Voip services are illegal in the UAE according to the TRA. You can only do pc to pc calls with it.

Dr Jaffer Khan, he's the 'go to' man for many. A friend had them done with excellent results. Think she paid about 16,000 - 18,000 dhs for the procedure. Prices depending what hospital you choose to use, what implants and other factors.

For the visa run change, you actually have to go into the Oman border control. Basically a guy will stamp the entry and exit stamps in your passport at the same time. Then when you come back to UAE immigration, you give them your passport with the big pink entry work permit - that then changes your status. I went mid-morning on a Saturday, getting to the border for about 10.30 and it was dead and very quick. You need to make sure that they stamp the pink sheet, as you have to present this along with your passport for the medical. Do the medical in Dubai at the Al Baraha hospital. You do your Emirates ID application at the same time and make sure you get your government health card there too at the same time. I hope that helps.

There's probably a loophole in the terms and conditions allowing for it, there usually is in promotions. Usually something like, the company has the right to change the terms of the promotion at any time without notice blah blah blah.

I did the Hatta run to change my status as it was easier and quicker than waiting for UAQ to do it. It has been reported though that you no longer need to exit the country to change status - check Gulf News. Don't forget aht after the visa change, you have to do the medical - that takes about 3 days for the results to come through, then you have to inform UAQ. My visa stamping took 2 days - but allow up to 5. It was actually my EID that was delayed - it should have taken 5 days after visa stamping, but took 3 weeks as immigration forgot to register my change in status. Always allow extra time. I used a company to do everything for me and they said allow 5-10 working days for each part of it.

You can STILL go to the Hatta/Oman border: Expat Route to Hatta Turn left at the Al Madam roundabout and get onto the E55 heading to Al Malaiha. Turn into the Sharjah/Kalba road (signpost – Shawka). Turn right towards Hatta onto the E44 after around 25-30 kilometres, thereby avoiding Omani territory and moving on to the Al Wajajah border post. Which is exactly what I said - take the Sharjah/Kalba road and get back on the E44 at the Hatta Fort Hotel - easy. If you use google maps, it will even take you the alternate route. Did it a couple of weeks a go. No drama.

can somebody help what is the best thing to do. this company who offered me a job back Dec. 21, 2015 took my passport in exchange with the offer letter. but until now they are not processing my papers so i opted to find a new job. but the thing is they dont want to give my passport back. what will i do? thanks Tell them you will go to the Police. It is illegal for them to hold your passport. Yup, plus according to the new labour laws that came into effect on 1st January, a company has 14 days to finish processing all your visa paperwork, if they don't the ministry of labour say you are free to look elsewhere. Report them. They don't a leg to stand on.

I'd follow that up. Sometimes if you're connected after the current billing cycle, then it doubles up. You should get a bill every month. Online enter all the details and make sure the account is correct. Give them a call to check it.

It would be easier to give you a better idea if you can state what profession you're in. Better to come here for a while, check the place out, look at what potential opportunities there are and then decide.

Sadly the answer to these questions are pretty much 'how long is a piece of string'. It's definitely easier to job hunt if you're actually in country, as opposed to applying from outside. I would say it's also better to apply to companies directly, rather than using agencies, as many of them are hit and miss.

Don't worry about missing out on Shakespeare token as they are not honouring the deal fully. Tried using the app for two burgers today and was told they are not listed as main course. Staff agreed burger fries and salad is not starter or dessert but mgt have agreed on very few dishes being a main course. would have happily went elsewhere if we had known. Then you must tell the people at the Entertainer that, so they can deal with it.

Forget it. It'll take you hours to leave. Plus don't forget that if you intend to go to Downtown, they close off all the roads in and the metro doesn't stop there after a certain time. Roads I think are all closed off from about 6pm. I wouldn't even risk that. No way you'd be getting out quickly.

Well it really depends how complicated the treatment is and how badly misaligned the teeth are. Invisalign are good at minor adjustments, but braces are far superior for complicated issues like closing gaps and realigning teeth, plus braces work a lot faster. I had train tracks top and bottom for 9 months. I had ceramic brackets on the top teeth, so they looked white. No big deal. Many adults wear braces these days, so no one really cares about their appearances. Really the only person who can advise is her dentist, as invisalign might not even be a suitable treatment. But for sure, she will require retainers after the treatment to keep her teeth in place, as an adult, if you don't they just move back. I have permanent retainers cemented behind my teeth.

Read Cheeky Monkey's answer as it is fantastic, and avoid advice from people who use the word "clean" in relation to food. Sorry but what rubbish! Eating 'clean' simply means you stay away from processed foods and eat more naturally, making more healthy choices. Eating clean doesn't mean depriving yourself of treats, the odd glass of vino etc. At it's base level it just means it's a way to refresh your eating habits. Also healthy fats are 100% required, so you don't cut those either. People get scared of the term 'clean eating' which has basically become a buzz term and depending who you speak to, you'll get umteen different answers. I simply use it as a term to clean up your diet and make better, more healthy choices. It certainly does NOT mean depriving yourself of things. And sorry but no losing weight is NOT an exact science, as everyone is different, therefore different things work for different people. It's NOT simply a case of eating less = weight loss. In fact if you suddenly go into calorie deficit, your body holds onto the excess weight as it doesn't know when it's going to get fed and goes into starvation mode. If you're exercising and working a lot with weights, you actually have to eat MORE. Much more protein, to fuel the muscles. Building lean muscle is a super fast fat burner, but it requires a lot of fuel. So many factors come into play, there simply is no one hard and fast rule.

Just note that detox and cleanses are short term fixes, and what you're probably losing is water weight. The minute you start eating normally again, the weight usually goes on. Best way to lose it, is clean eating, reduce your calorie intake and exercise. Quick fixes sadly are just that and the effects don't last.

Ah the Nay-Sayers. Sorry AdventureB, I met my husband online - he was fresh off the boat, didn't know anyone and was looking for people to hang out with initially. I got bored of 'meeting' people in all the usual places. I can't tell you how many of my friends have met their current partners/husbands/wives online, but it's LOTS of of them. Sure you have to trawl through the people just looking for flings etc, but there are many genuine people who're looking for something serious and are too shy/busy/don't feel comfortable putting themselves out there. I have two friends who are in serious relationships that met people on online , so it does happen. Don't poo poo the idea, meeting online has and does work for so many people.

It seems visa run is not anymore possible to get. people have to exit country after 90 days and some just fly for the day and back. rgds Nope - that's only certain passport holders. You can't do a visa run at the RAK / Oman border as it's not technically a border, just a check point. You have to go to the Hatta / Oman border. The army checkpoints on the E44 are currently closed, so you must take the Sharjah / Kalba route across to it.

A difficult situation, but is there a genuine reason why he can't accept four cheques? The tenant could well feel bullied into accepting something, they genuinely can't commit to, hence all the avoidance and probably waiting until the contract expires, then just going to RERA and let them deal with it. The tenant not communication isn't acceptable and it's far better to be honest and upfront about a situation, but when you have someone who isn't willing to negotiate, very often you can feel trapped - totally been in that situation with LL's here before. Scenarios like this is why is will NEVER, do this to my tenant. Good ones are hard to find and I've negotiated with mine. He's happy, I'm happy, no issues. As it should be.
