Nomad, no need to be so defensive! I was merely asking if anyone has had experience with BHRT, either good or bad. I have not yet made up my mind on whether to go down this path and will keep an open mind while I research further. The facts are that BHRT is not recognised by many medical bodies, including the FDA and that it is classified as an alternative medicine that has not been definitively established through scientific testing. So on this basis I am interested to hear any stories - yes it is my body (and my wallet) and that's why I'm taking this seriously!

Hi Geordie Expat, have just called Nicholas & Asp and he no longer works there! Do you know where he's gone?

I am looking for a qualified, adult math tutor who would be available for home tutoring for my girls aged 7, 9 and 10. They are in the IB system. We are in the Ranches. Looking for once a week, preferably on a Tuesday night. Many thanks.

ClairA- I feel your pain! Over past week my weight has also been really erratic even though I'm following it to the letter.... I think I'm reaching the dreaded 'plateau'. Still, it's generally heading in the right direction and I just need to be more patient- I now have lost 9 kgs in 6 weeks!!!! Only 4 to go. I really am thrilled, and its honestly one of yhe best things I'vd done. Hubby has just reached his target (lost 12 kilos) so now onto consolidation. Try not to feel too disheartened- the weight will eventually come off and enjoy your 3 weeks!

Xmasbaby- well done to you!! Have you reached your goal? And to all those who have started, great work and keep it up, this diet (altho hate that word for it) really works. I've now been following Dukan for 6 weeks and have lost 8 kilos! Started at 78kg and goal is to get to 65, so another 5 to go! I feel great and soooo much better for losing the weight and have never been more determined to see something through. My advice would be to really try and stick with the programme - the reintroduction of all those yummy foods is just around the corner! DH has been doing this with me and has lost 10kg, now he's 2kg off consolidation phase which is a real incentive for me to get down! Only real problem I've had on this is a bout of terrible constipation about 4 weeks in, so I now take half a tblspn of pure wheatbran each morning with my oatbran and so far no more problems. Love also that my appetite has reduced over time so I'm not really raiding the fridge on my vege-protein days. edited by Fresia on 09/05/2011

Island Girl: thanks for the recipe. Bread is stage 3 for us, so will try this bread then! Icfcfem and Ashleigh: Totally agree with your comments. As you say the main thing is you are giving this your best shot and you both deserve all the support and congrats that everyone can give you. I don't think anyone takes going on a diet lightly, especially when it is a lifestyle change for good. I too read up a lot about it and a lot of detractors do focus on the attack phase which indicates to me that they probably haven't read the book. I have only been on 2 real diets in my life (Jenny Craig and Marisa Peer) and while both worked the weight eventually returned (albeit after 5 years on J/Craig). The most appealing aspect of Dukan for me is the care he puts into the last 2 phases to ensure the weight stays off and in a very manageable way. This really is working for me and I am very excited about it. Each day the scales seem to read just a little bit less and it's exactly the motivation I need. So far, 5.6 kg in 24 days and I feel great! Have another 6.4 to lose. Mmm, vege day today, I made a bolognaise sauce last night and chucked all the allowable veges into it, it makes for a lovely filling meal. Keep going ladies, you are all doing so well.

..... and if you DID read the book you would realize that this diet is not just about carb and fat restrictions, that the bulk of the diet alternates between protein and vegetables, that all foods are gradually reintroduced in a controlled manner, that it was 30 years in the making and that it is made up of 4 phases, 2 of which are there for maintaining and keeping your true weight for life. Muurtje, I know the low fat yoghurts are tastier than the no fat but you will very quickly get used to the no fat and they are a nice sweet pick-me-up. Personally I would stick to what he prescribes because you will eventually be able to go back to whatever dairy you want when the weight is off- you've got to make these small sacrifices! Glad you are reading the book, I think its a huge help in understanding how this diet really works and its very motivational. Good luck and let me know how you go!

Well Chocs01, this is no fad diet and maybe you should read the book before making such claims. Don't scaremonger with claims such as getting gall stones and muscle wasting when being overweight or obese is INFINITELY more unhealthy. Good for you that you've lost your 6 kilos in a way that works for you, but try not to be so mean spirited. Great going Ashleigh and Piggle. Hard at times I know but keep it up. I'm now just into week 4 and have lost 5.5 kgs! Im loving fitting all my old clothes now. Weight loss is slowing down but expected that, all up feeling great!!!!

... and that is the beauty of this diet. Quick weight loss at the beginning and then stages that are long and steady to ensure the weight stays off. I love the way that each new stage introduces more food which incentivises the weight loss and will feel like a treat. Muurtje- I did quite a bit of research on this before I started and didn't find much negative press about it at all- except from those that clearly hadn't read the book. I love that this one is not just another diet and a lot of thought has been given to when you've lost the actual weight that you don't regain. Read the book and good luck! Another weigh-in this morning and I've lost 4.1 kg in 15 days!!!!

Just to be sure, you can buy the Quaker Oat Bran just not the rolled oats..... mmm just made the muffin oatbran recipe on the back of the packet for the kids and was so tempted to tuck in but didn't! BTW, has snyone seen the fat-reduced cocoa here? So many of the protein-veg day desserts have this in them and my sweet tooth is kicking in.... haven't checked the supermkts yet but just wondered if they stock it. Nadadanada and Pepps would definitely recommend this diet, the Attack phase will give you such a great start. Would definitely recommend you read the book if you haven't already and the Dukan diet book v. handy. Good luck!! Icfcfem- I'm only recording my weekly weigh-ins, love to weigh myself daily but scales are all over the place.

Icfcfm- good on you!! What a great loss so far, just the motivation you prob need to keep going. I'm still really excited by it too... Day 14 and I've lost 3.5kg which I'm thrilled at, feel so much better. Still got 9.5 kg to go but determined to get there. Loving the vege+protein days but need to get more creative- end up making big bowls of soup. Still, no hardship at all and managed to go for dinner last night and stick to it. Also loving my 30 minute walk each morning. DH also doing it and he's list 6.5 kgs in same time!!!! Piggle - thanks for the info. Am getting my oatbran at Spinneys but still haven't managed to find any plain Quark, any luck anyone??

Icfcfem, my pancakes are terrible! I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong but they always end up a scrambled mess. Feel like such a novice and I've made plenty of pancakes and omelets... I've tried turning heating up, down, making them bigger, smaller, thicker, thinner, but I can't seem to get them right. I do only one at a time-- would love any tips on how to get them right because they are still tasty! Kids are eating them for breakie too despite looking like a car wreck. The sauce is in the book and has no cooked ingredients- mix 1 hard boiled egg, 3 finely diced gherkins, 1 small onion, 2 tblspns each chives, parsley, tarragon (altho I leave the tarragon out), 2 small pots yoghurt, 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard and salt. Quite tasty and can be served with fish, meat and veges. Good luck with rest of Attack, you're doing really well! I'm sneaking in another 2 days on Attack 'cos scales keep fluctuating wildly- think I've lost around 2 kg.

I have just finished day 5 of Dukan (Attack) and must say - so far - I am finding it no real hardship and feel quite excited about getting to my target. This is a while away so hoping I'll have the same attitude then! Have lost about 2kgs but real loss isn't clear because I started during my cycle which I wouldn't recommend Sophie. What I love about this diet is the fact you can eat as much as you want and that it doesn't hang you out to dry after you've reached your goal weight- a programme for life which sounds quite scary but actually seems do-able if you continue with a few key things. My advice would be to DEFINITELY read the book and maybe wait on signing up to any paid coaching on the website unless you start to waiver on it- the book should be enough to convince you!
