Thank you all for your feedback! We got the Summer Infant Large Baby Bather from Mothercare @ AED 160. A bit pricey but it costs almost the same in the UK. Should have gone to babyshop to look for one...

Yup both rick dees and casey kasem had similar styles. Eitherways - a loss to the radio fraternity. Made my friday evenings in the 80's. We have to deal with ryan seacrest these days... :(

I would have loved ikea, but my mattress size is 70 x 140. Ikea is either too big or too small!

Well, to be honest I met the employer and he was a bit weird. He did not make eye contact while talking. He did not give us the maids passport copy when we asked for it. He even went as far as telling us, why should the maid have a phone, when there is a house phone for her to receive calls. It was a sorry state. I think the maid has just had enough, and wants a day off in the week, and to be able to use a personal phone (I'm not even going towards her current salary). I would be very happy if she left. And the best part is that she actually waited for her visa to expire (It's been 3 years with the current sponsor) - filled with broken promises. I also felt a bit more comfortable when I saw the sponsors kids hug her and say that we will miss you - and please visit us. I will try and call the sponsor and ask him the next course of action. I guess the way she can avoid a renewal is to just refuse to do her medical test. Let's see how this plays out...

[b'>Dear Ladies,[/b'> I'm in a bit of a quandary. I was recently interviewing maids for our house (Via an ad posted on this site), who we would like to sponsor. We found an ideal lady - whose visa with her current employer is about to run out - and she has expressed to her current employer she would not like to continue there [u'>(As she is not given a day off and works 365 days a year).[/u'> I met the maid with her present employer who said that you can take her onto your sponsorship once her grace period is over. Today the maid called me and said that the employer isn’t letting her go, and said that he will cancel her visa and send her back to the Philippines if she does not want to stay on. We really like this maid and seems to tick all the right boxes for her - and she seems to like us with the increased salary with the weekends off. Now my question is, if she decides to NOT renew her employment - can I employ her in Dubai, while she is on her grace period? We do not want to get her back from the Philippines as this again becomes expensive, as though we are getting fresh help, and I believe that it will have to go through an agency (With even more expenses), though I am not too sure. Can any of you advise on what's my best course of action? If she does go back to the Philippines, do you know what the charges are to get her back via an agency (And do I HAVE TO use an agency to do so? My best option is to pick her up here, once she decides NOT to renew her visa. I just hope I can do that. Kindly advise me on your thoughts – or the legal route to take to get her on our sponsorship locally.

One of my favorite places is Minato at the Radisson Blu in Deira. They used to have an offer of AED 220 for all you can eat and drink (Sushi, Salds, Teppanyaki, Tempura plus Grape, Soft Drinks and Malt). Not sure of what the offer is now. They also have a large selection of A La Carte - But it's best to call them to check. I remember that if you have a Carlton Loyalty Card (Which you can sign up for free in the hotel lobby in 5 mins), you get between 15% - 25% off your total bill. Again, I would check this before I go. Enjoy! [url=http://www.radissonblu.com/galleries/radisson/PDF/DXBZA/dxbza_minato-menu.pdf'>Heres a link to their menu [/url'>

I've had good experiences on their newer aircrafts, with manageable delays (45 - 60 minutes). It's a good carrier, and cannot be compared with EK who are the leading global carrier for years. [url=http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/trip_reports/read.main/162095/'>Here's a good review [/url'>of the entire flight experience for a long range flight in Economy with photos. Bite the GA bullet and save yourself AED 10K. It's worth it.

It all depends on what you are looking for. I did a lot of research on watches before picking one up for my partner. There are huge variations in brands, materials and movements. As Mother Inferior mentioned, stay away from fashion brands. These are usually brands like D&G, cK, Burberry, Gucci etc - which are strong in fashion, but unfortunately have no experience in watchmaking - and give out manufacturing licenses to companies in Hong Kong and China. You would be paying between AED 800 - 2000 - for a cheap watch that has a brand monogramed on it. The higher end watches who are pure watchmakers like IWC, Breguet, Rolex, Patek Phillipe etc are out simply on the basis of cost. They are by far the best made with complicated automatic movements and hence are the most expensive. I would look at entry level automatic watches from smaller watch house brands to be honest. Quartz watches are cheaper and do not appreciate in value, and are completely machine made - And I would go as far as to comparing a quartz to an automatic watch, by saying it is like comparing zircons to diamonds! An important thing to consider is how the watch wears in size. Depending on your DH's wrist size and strap preference (Leather, rubber or metal) could also greatly affect your watch choice. Most standard sizes are between 39mm to 42mm. So heres a few phenomenal watches to consider given your budget (Watches will be around + / - 20% of the given AED 6000 budget): 1. West End Watch Co. - Sowar 1916 Collection - The classic WW1 watch that was seen worn by military men between Europe and India. Wonderful vintage look with a crystal back to see its moving parts. This was the first watch that Ahmed Siddique, the largest luxury watch retailer in Dubai started out with (Much before Rolex!) - [url=http://www.westendwatchco.ch/index.php?p=1916'>Collection is here [/url'> (Available at Ahmed Siddique for around AED 2000). 2. Oris - Divers or Aquis Collection - These are big bold chunky watches built like a tank and have Swiss Pedigree (It's a 110 year old watch making company)! These can be worn daily and are excellent for rough use including water sports, extreme tempratures and board room meetings! This collection is stocked by Rivoli and the range after discount is between AED 5000 - AED 9000 with a lot of models). You can see some of the [url=http://www.oris.ch/en/collections/oris-aquis'>collection here[/url'> 3. Tag Heuer - Aquaracer Automatic Calibre 5 - As mentioned by Lou101 - these are amazing entry level automatic watches into the Luxury watch industry. Their brand is well known, and worn by the likes of Leonardo Di Caprio, Lewis Hamilton, Shah Rukh Khan and more! It was my first luxury watch as well and I still have it and wear it (Since 1992!) - [url=http://www.tagheuer.com/int-en/aquaracer/aquaracer-models'>The classic Aquarace collection[/url'> I could go on about many more watches, but these three represent the best value for automatic watches with pedigree. It may also be wise to check out Longines (Rivoli), Raymond Weil (Al Futtaim Watches), Hamilton and Tissot watches to keep in your budget! Also make SURE YOU HAGGLE FOR A DISCOUNT as the UAE has slightly inflated prices, and you will be shocked to see how much the dealers are ready to move down. All the best! edited by g_bharat on 20/03/2014 <em>edited by g_bharat on 20/03/2014</em>

xclusive yachts I know is around 13 - 15 K for 4 hours (75 to 80 foot yacht). With a captain and crew to help with drinks. Would accomodate 30 - 40 people. Food and alcohol not included in that amount. Checking with my friend and will let you know. Approximate date please? His would probably be 3 to 4K less. <em>edited by g_bharat on 19/03/2014</em>

I was confused with the statement below, but I guess if the calculator gave an output of 20% increase, it makes sense. Mine just gave 5%, and everyone other LL gets 23% more rent :( - Unhappy LL. The maximum rental increase you can receive is now 20% rather than 5%, and it's all predicated on how far under the "market rate" your rent currently is. If the calculator is saying you are due an increase of 30k, then presumably you're *well* under the current going rate for your area. Sounds like a 20% increase on a rent of 150k, is that right? Yes, the LL has to give you a minimum of 90 days' notice, and if he doesn't, you're entitled to renew at your current rent - but s/he probably won't just roll over and accept that. <em>edited by g_bharat on 19/03/2014</em>

A bit confused here. I would love some clarification on the case in hand. Currently I have a flat out on rent for AED 44K, but the RERA Calculator Says the following: •The rent for a Studio apartment in **** of 50000 to 60000 AED per year. •Rent is lower by 18% of the average rent for the type of unit you have chosen . •According to the law governing change, your rating category is (form 11% to 20%) •The rate of increase for this category is 5% •Amount of the increase recorded by the rental value (AED 2250) Does this mean I can only increase my rent to AED to 46,250 (Old rent of AED 44,000 plus the rental increase of AED 2,250), when everyone else in the area is leasing the flat for AED 60K +? What does rating category mean? Thanks in advance. It seems that the landlord (i.e. Us) are getting jipped! <em>edited by g_bharat on 19/03/2014</em>

Do you have a budget? A friend of mine used to lease yachts - so I can ask if its within your budget. It might also be important to know if you need a captain to sail (Or it stays parked), catering with staff, and time you will need the yacht for (Hours) along with the timing. <em>edited by g_bharat on 19/03/2014</em>

Unfortunately you will not get double benefits in terms of annual tickets, school education etc, but they may build the rental into part of your salary allowances. Good luck.

We have a top end Washer / Dryer - which at its best, gives out warm damp clothes. The drying cycle is ridiculous - 2 - 3 hours for a small 4 Kg load, which used to take 45 - 60 mins in our standalone dryer. Most washer dryer combos have a condenser (A device that turns water vapour into water), and cannot truly air dry the clothes like a conventional dryer. We now hang our clothes in the house after the wash / tumble dry cycle. What's nice is that the laundry done at night, usually dries out by the morning in the A/C (A/C has dry air) and leaves the area / room where they were left them, smelling laundry fresh!

I recently dropped off new toys at Dubai hospital, and they were very accepting (Though my quantity was about 800 pieces). Latifah Hospital will also accept them. Dubai Hospital Contact - Ms. Laila Abdulla Alhadad Email: [email protected] Phone: 04-2195828 Latifah Hospital - Contact – Dr. Abdulla Al Khayat’s secretary Nuzat Ali (04-2193366 [email protected]). Good luck! I also had some negative experiences with a few small organizations that deal with special children or cases - where I was asked to pay money to accept the free toys as they would 'need storage'! Needless to say we stuck to the big hospitals who handled this in a professional manner.

I too have a Canon 550D and it is a wonderful camera. Keep in mind that the Canon 1100D and Nikon D3200, are not the same level camera! The Canon 1100D is Canon's most basic model. If you are comparing it to the Nikon D3200, you should select between the Canon 550D or the 650D. Just curious, what do these cost today? My DH used to get amazing discounts for cameras (SLR only) a little while back. Maybe we can advise on where to get one.

Just typed a long message here that I lost! Anyways, I will type it as a summary now. 1. Get a cover to cover up the scratch at the back! I have OCD and got somthing similar for my iPhone to cover the scratches on the back (Out of sight, Out of mind!) - [url=http://img1.etsystatic.com/004/0/7296674/il_570xN.379248105_62yn.jpg'>Cover[/url'> 2. Get the back completely changed. It costs between AED 300 and AED 450. I was contemplating doing this, till I got the above cover! 3. There is a company that may be able to polish out the scratches and add a clear coat of protection to the phone. I may be wrong (As I cannot access FB from work), but I believe that this is their website - [url=https://www.facebook.com/ClearCoatProtection'>Clear Coat[/url'> All the best! edited by g_bharat on 06/03/2014 <em>edited by g_bharat on 06/03/2014</em>

Under normal circumstances it is one year (Non eviction). Also look under the original housing contract that was registered with RERA. Mine says notice from Landlord to Tenant for vacating the property is 60 days for breaking terms in the lease contract.

A Filipina helper in our office got sick and was admitted to a government hospital. Upon conducting the tests, the hospital confirmed she was pregnant and asked who was the father of the baby / husband. Her husband came forward (A driver with our company as well), and provided their marriage certificate from Pakistan (Where they got married), that was not legalized here. They were both arrested for having *** outside of marriage, as the document provided had no merit here. The couple served 2 months in jail (Yes, the pregnant mother as well), and were then deported. I know as I was there with our helper in court. It is a freak incident, but yes, it could occur to anyone, so it would be best to pack her off, before any other unseen circumstances occur. Just my 2 cents, as this could escalate very quickly. Best of luck. <em>edited by g_bharat on 04/03/2014</em>

Also review GIA vs. IGI as there is a huge difference in quality and grading scales. http://www.diamondreview.com/forum/topic/3169-gia-vs-igi/ I wanted to buy my diamond in the US, but ended up buying an equivalent diamond that I could touch and feel from Lifestyle jewelers in Lamcy on the ground floor. The specs were identical, and I only paid 5% more for a 1.6 carat diamond in Dubai =(At the time, was AED 1300 more, on a total of AED 36,000 - was AED 34,700 in the US). <em>edited by g_bharat on 04/03/2014</em>

I think the sendoff bonus is a great idea. The latest news for gratuity for maids is still a draft law and has not been formalized. "In the UAE, the Federal National Council last year passed a new draft law that aims to regulate the domestic worker industry in line with international standards. President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s signature is needed before it can be implemented. The draft law ensures protection for domestic staff as it pegs the minimum age requirement for maids to 18, requires a written contract between the sponsor and maid and guarantees end-of-service gratuity for maids. It also states that sponsors should shoulder recruitment agency fees, monthly payment of salaries in cash, and a weekly day off." - http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/society/special-report-abuse-pushes-maids-to-the-edge-1.1178909 <em>edited by g_bharat on 03/03/2014</em>
