I don't know the answer but I do agree with you! I wish we had a John Lewis here; I always manage to find things in there that are very nice, good quality, useful and not too expensive. *Note to self* stock up next time you go home! johnlewis.com and shop n ship :) Brilliant - thank you! Why did that never occur to me ? - goodness knows my CC is in ICU after all the online purchases I make for myself ;)

I see it as not only being childish but also as "punishing" you like you were a naughty child or a pet that needs to be taught a lesson - whatever the reasons for the original fallout. I hate that mentality - you are his OH and he should be giving you the respect you deserve even if he is angry or upset with you. Maybe tolerable for a short time if you have had a really big bust up - but someone carrying it on for 4 days shows a very mean and controlling attitude; IMHO of course. If this is not the first time he has exhibited this behavoir I would be really thinking about the relationship before getting in any deeper.

Around 110 (wash & blow dry only). The ones offered by Hair Works are overpriced and generally not as good as others. How odd - I think the exact opposite. IMO it is one of the only places that the hairdressers actually listen and do a good job. I never come out looking over styled with "big" hair or with so much product on it is completely flat like a lot of places do here. I have been to cheaper ones but regretted it as it often end up looking like I could have done a better job myself.

Why not try to clean it before making such an expensive decision? Empty, remove all shelves, wash thoroughly with water & vinegar then, if it still smells, wipe it out with vanilla essence. Leave it open to dry and air thoroughly. If it's still a bit smelly, wash again with water and vinegar or vanilla, dry thoroughly then put an open pot of bicarb inside and shut the door. edited by Green-ish on 07/09/2011 Just to say - I did all of the above and more and nothing worked. But I suppose it depends if the inner workings of the fridge became contaminated, like mine did, or not. I was so reluctant to throw mine away as it was new and I could not really afford a another new one, but ended up having to.

I say buy a new one. I had the same thing happen to me and I went the clean it out route and I never got rid of the smell. My problem was that I had one of those that had a freezer section over the fridge. The disgusting black, slime from the rotted defrosted prawns got into the metal covered polystyrene layer that seperates the fridge from the freezer. Even though I had a technician take it apart so that I could clean it, the smell would not go. It took about a week to get rid of the smell from the fridge but the smell from the freezer would not go and when I went to get rid of it, black slime seemed to ooze from everywhere when I moved it a few inches! edited by Genie on 07/09/2011

I phoned there about 2 months ago for a delivery and was gutted when I got no answer as I presumed they had shut down. Very glad to hear it's just a refurb - though as it was not open 2 months ago it seems to be taking a long time!

As I said previously the child custody was not an issue but the money is a nightmare. I think this is what needs specifying in a will. A family friend died here and his wife could get no access to their accounts. In the end my brother, who was his business partner, had to come over to help sort it all out. It took months and they never recovered all of the money as he had left no will.

I know of one unfortunate couple where the husband was killed in a road accident. They had one daughter; this never even came up as a suggestion from anyone - let alone happened. I worked with her and amongst all the grief and things she had to contend with this was not one of them. They couple were European, non- muslim.

Thanks Genie. Problem is I am not a UK but EU national. Still have friends who live there (UK) but I know DVLA asks for proof of residency i.e. utilities bills etc I saw the thread talking about this issue but there was no answer for my situation ... I was not asked for any proof of residency - but then again maybe that is because I am a UK national?

The same happened to me last year and I have renewed it. Not really meant to but I needed it to get my drivers licence here (my old one UAE had expired and if I had known i could just renew it without my Uk one I would not have gone to the trouble I did to get the UK one). Basically if you have one of the new passports they can renew the photo ID from the photo on record, you just send off you photocard ID with the DVLA form - you may be able to do it online also I think - may be worth checking. If not then you need to send an attested photo and your passport. I was not willing to do that so waited until I went to the UK and had my photo taken at one of larger post offices that has this facility. The new ID ws then sent to my UK address. Took about a week. All of this should only be done if you are resident in the UK of course - I am not but like many other expats risked it. I do not use my UK licence here or in the UK - I use the UAE one. You will to need provide a UK address . There was a long thread recently on this topic with a lot of good information - try a search.

Thanks Genie I will give the cream a try, can I get it in any chemist? Sorry to be a pain but I really need to sort this problem out sooner rather than later. Sorry been offline for a while. If you go to the link for the cream it takes you to the website and you order online. It comes from the UK though I think the product is originally from the USAI have had two shipments sent over without any problem and the postage does not cost much as the jars are light.

Do i have to get all the accessories from craftland like threads, buttons, wadding, fabric chalk etc or is there a cheaper shop that sells all your accessoories like that? tia There are harberdashery stores in Satwa that sell that stuff cheaply. On the main street where the material shops are (not plant street) There is one near the main Regals on that street.

This happened to me a while ago but thought I would add it here.. Starving hungry at work one morning I went to the snack bar; perusing the menu I thought I would like an egg sandwich but wanted to know if it was hardboiled, egg salad or fried etc.. Me: What is in the egg sandwich? SB: Egg ma'am Me: yes but what else is in it? SB: Bread ma'am Me: Yes but is there anything else - salad or tomatoes or is it just fried SB: It's egg ma'am with bread Me: Fried or hardboiled? SB: It's cooked egg ma'am Me: Never mind - I'll just have toast please SB: White tost bread or brown tost bread? ME: White please 5 minutes later I get handed a plate with two slices of hot white bread - just starting to go a bit crisp around the edges but completely untoasted Me: What's this? I asked for toast this is just hot bread SB: It's your tost bread Me: But it's not toasted - it's just hot bread SB: Ma'am you asked for WHITE tost bread - that is WHITE tost bread ETA - forgot to say - presumably if it had actually been toasted it would count as brown toast! At that point I just gave up and had a coffee instead :D edited by Genie on 20/06/2011

I have done lots of driving around the last few weeks and seen very few 'to let' signs or even phone numbers for management companies. Seems there aren't many people vacating though I suspect there aren't as many 3 beds as 4 beds. I have seen several To Let signs on Umm al Sheif Street in Umm Sequeim,(the beach rd end of it) in fact everytime I go up there seems to be a new one. Some are on older looking single storey villas. They have been there for several weeks.

LD - I forgot to add - often babies with oral aversion demonstrate exactly the same behavior as if they have reflux; arching and pulling away, gagging etc. They do this in an effort to avoid what they feel is a negative experience. Some prem babies associate the rubber feeding teat with the negative experience of suction tubes etc as the texture is the same; it could be the same with the syringe, Some do well when a new feeding experience is introduced i.e. solids but especially finger foods. (though some with severe aversion do not tolerate any new experience). It is all trail and error to find out which catergory they fit into. If you google "premature babies oral aversion" you should find a lot of information, hopefully including support groups of other mothers who have experienced the same. Good luck and keep your chin up. Genie, your posts are so heartening to me.......to realise that neonatal nursing has come a very long way since my daughter's time..........then there seemed to be a total denial of any adverse effects on preemies, once they were "potted on" it was job done, and the baby would be fine...... I can understand a certain amount of denial on the part of neonatal care staff.........because so many procedures are traumatic and painful (though I still hear professionals insisting that the babies aren't aware/don't remember etc) but to read your posts make me wish you had been teleported back in time. These little babies have a very traumatic entrance into the world, and there are long lasting side effects for many, to have that fact recognised must make it much much easier for parents to cope. edited by Livelytrish on 08/06/2011 LT- did not see your post before as logged off soon after posting last night. You are right it has come a long way and there is now so much recognition of the adverse affects of NICU on prem babies both sensory and behavoiral. Good NICU's will limit as much noxious stimulation as possible, including light, sound, handling and keeping all interventions to the absolute minimum possibe, although it is impossible to cut them all out. The average baby will experience 400 painful procedures in a month. This can have long term adverse effects on feeding, sleeping and behavoir, all mothers should be informed and helped with coping strategies - alas this is still not the case everywhere. I have memories of battling with one consultant constantly over givieng adequate pain releif- she used to prescribe homeopathic doses as she believed that prem neonates did not feel pain. As an unwilling inflictor of that pain I used to do daily battle with her. Finally one day she rushed in with a research paper showing that prem neonates in fact feel MORE pain and it has more consequences for them. I could have beaten her around the head with it. To LD and all mum's never give in to the "anxious mother" label. Trust your instincts they are always correct when it comes to your own babies.

Have you consulted with Nadia Bhayat? She is a speech-language therapist and a feeding specialist. If you can post a mob no or email I can pass her contact details on to you. She is based in Al Ain. I also highly recommend Nadia, she is an ex colleague and very highly qualified and experienced.

As an ex NICU nurse I have seen premature babies develop feeding or oral aversion. Did you DD have a lot of oral procedures whilst in NICU? oral suctioning, intubation, oral feeding tubes, mouth care etc? Some babies develop severe oral aversion because they associate anything going in to the mouth with distress and trauma / pain, which may explain why you can only feed her when she sleeps. I would thing that if it was a physical cause, i.e. eosinophilic esophagitis then you still would have difficulty feeding even when asleep. Treament for oral aversion is difficult but there are programmes run by speech and language therapists. Some of this involves facial excercises, touching the area around the face in a pleasurable way, slowly working towards being able to put things in the mouth - but in needs an expert to guide you. In the worst case of oral aversion I saw the child was 5 years old before she would eat; most cases I have seen resolve after a few months of dedicated treatment. I am not saying it is this but I think it is something you should consider, try googling oral aversion and specifically SALT therapy and Beckman oral motor excercises for more information. If you DD is 6 months (even uncorrected) I would try to move to solids and cup feeding as soon as possible. The syringe may be another reminder of trauma - if in fact that was the reason for oral aversion and if she has it, but it does sound like it. If you have explored all this and discounted already then please ignore - just trying to be helpful. I have seen quite a few mothers going through what you are experiencing and I know how difficult it is, I wish you all the best in trying to find a solution.

You need a pain managment service but I am not sure if any exist here. They are usually headed by an anesthetist but offer multidisciplinary support to help control pain. You could try some of the private hospitals to see if they have this service - but sadly, I doubt it. Try this link, it is the pain managment webiste of the NHS and offers self help tools on coping with pain etc http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Pain/Pages/Painhome.aspx You could try contacting one of the pain management clinics in the NHS when you are at home, most trusts run this service

it's only the same as the UK's National No Smoking Day - only more effective !! lol Not really - no true smoker whould ever be caught short or outwitted by a few supermarkets and garages not selling cigs... only the "casual" smokers would get caught out - and they don't really count as true smokers :D i know people who've used the no smoking day to kick-start them giving up... Good for them ... only makes me smoke more. Now Ramadan is a good time though...

Another vote for YSL Touche Eclat. I find other concealers too heavy, they sit in the fine lines around my eyes and exaggerate them plus show up ones I did not know that I had. The other benefit is that you can use it to highlight as well as conceal.

I did it and found it hard work as I was working full time. It involved being in college for 1 full day (on my day off - yuk!) and then one evening a week teaching a class and then having a meeting /feedback with the tutor - so quite a long evening. I found it took a lot of committment as there was a lot of lesson preperation for the teaching sessions and also coursework that counted towards your final assesment to complete. If you are not already working full time then it would be easier but if working it is do-able - though hardwork. I did not use it to find work but to complement the job I was in at the time. I was offered part time work though after the course but did not take it up (one job was enough for me!). I do know that people who were on the course with me used the qualification to find jobs. edited by Genie on 30/05/2011

I just wish cheddar wasnt so fattening but at least Marmite is calorie free :-) Yes it cancels out the crumpets, butter and cheese completely - that is my theory :D

Hmmm i have to disagree... i love Marmite, although it is the variety in the UK that i love... On my trip to NZ i was pretty excited to find marmite albeit with a different looking label and it was FOUL! thumbs up for UK style maramite MAJOR thumbs down for its antipodean cousin! :-) Yes! That is the reason that they hate marmite in NZ and OZ - it is because they are eating the NZ version which is sold thropughout NZ and OZ .. it has caramel added and had 10 times more sugar and a lot less salt than the original UK one! No wonder they prefer Vegemite. Vegemite lovers - try the [i'>origina[/i'>[b'>[/b'>l UK one and you will be converted :D

The best one I have found is the Boots No.7 heavenly hydration moisturising mask. I use it after exfoliating and my skin feels soft and hydrated for days afterwards. It usually sinks right into your skin without hardly a trace (if I have not used it for a while) and just tissues off. I sometimes use a little of it as a moisturiser if I have run out of my usual moituriser I have been using it for several years and find it much better than most of the more expensive brands.

Yes, it's a no competition clause. We would like to know how the employer can enforce it with the DOH - can they actually prevent a future employer from licensing her? I have never heard of someone actually doing this though cannot vouch that it does not happen. I think the best thing you can do is phone the licensing section at the DHA and ask them. There is a specific licensing section on their website.

You are correct in that health professionals can change employment at the end of their contract without an NOC. However some private health care institutions put a competition clause in the contract stating that you cannot go to work for a competitor. Years ago even the government did that; you could not move from one government hospital to another in the same emirate, but they stopped that when the shortage of health care staff hit the region. However I have never heard of stopping someone working for two years after their contract finishes and I have many friends and contacts in healthcare in the UAE. I suspect it may not even be legal; they should challenge it before signing. Having said that, in my experience of healthcare contracts here I would say it is the sign of bad employer and would imagine worse to come when he/she starts work!
