Hi grayling, thanks for the post! We just moved to Cairo (after 15 years in Dubai) and while my husband is Egyptian (I'm not) I must say, I'm finding it a wee bit hard to get into the groove of thi...
Hi zeezee, unfortunately the expat social scene is very driven by Facebook in Egypt. There is Internations, but due to their bizarre policies, it's completely dominated by young Egyptian men these days. Meetup is getting bigger in Egypt but still tiny compared to Facebook. If you don't do Facebook it's really hard to know what to suggest to be honest.

How are things there? Is it safe to travel in Egypt? I was thinking of visiting this summer. Also, if you can advice when is the best time to travel there will be perfect :)
It's as safe as anywhere else, to be honest. I feel perfectly safe here and I've lived here four years. The summer is incredibly hot though, so if you're not good in heat it's probably not the best time. It depends what you want to do really - beach/diving holiday, ancient Egypt, Nile cruise etc - when the best time to come is. Definitely not Ramanda though.

Hi pinksushi, sorry for the delay in responding to your post, I only just saw it. I don't spend much time on Expat Woman because there is no Egypt Expat Woman. I live in Cairo and can understand completely all your frustrations having lived here for nearly four years. I don't know where you live or what you do, but if you want to meet up for a coffee sometime, let me know. Also, are you a member of Expat Women in Cairo, the Facebook group? It's a bit of a mixed blessing. I also run a group called Expat Social Stuff and also a book club called Cairo Reading Group. I'm also a member of a writing group if any of those would be of interest to you. Let me know. Carol
