...and our temperature gauges seemed to rise a bit too when pregnant, well mine did, so it's not easy to tolerate too much heat as youre already hot. One has to hope that most people now are sun safe concious whether pregnant or not. I too don't get this 'parade' business... cover up/decorum/show off/discretion etc? In a bikini you are at pool or beach no? Not waltzing through a mall or whatever. Swimwear of anykind is suitable attire for such places and it's a personal thing as to whether you would cover up or not. I do get it if someone feels their full of baby belly is a private thing, and to cover would be their most comfortable choice for themselves. Whether you are small, fat, inbetween, roll covered, marked and scarred it is no ones business but each individuals as to what they themselves feel good in and want to wear at a beach. Cultural and religious conciderations aside, of course. We've had the thread on fatties in bikinis, now the pregnant one...whats next? gonna ban everyone over the age of 60 from wearing a swim suit at all? Personally, as I have said before...there is nothing more beautiful than a pregnant tum. Love it and love to see women who do embrace it and enjoy their pregnancys doing things they love, and if thats the beach with their belly out...more power to them. and if its the beach with belly covered...fabulous too...whatever is most comfortable and 'right' for each individual. Well said aroha! "...whatever is most comfortable and 'right' for each individual"

Sorry about this ladies, totally disagree with showing off pregnant tummies. A friend of mine was warned NOT to bare her bump to the sun, but didn't listen. She went on to have a baby with severe sunburn. Can't tell you how guilty she felt :(. Her DS still bears the scars. Needless to say she kept covered for the 2nd one. Really?? I'm genuinely astounded. Since reading your post I've done a (superficial) scour of the internet and can't find one reference to sunburn in an unborn baby. Plenty on avoiding sunburn because of the usual health risks including dehydration affecting the baby, but nothing on the baby getting burnt. I just can't imagine the UV rays getting through all of the layers of skin, fat, fluid, abdominal wall, fluid, uterine wall, lining, fluid...

I'm not gettting the parading around and showing off bit?! Just because you are wearing bikini with a bump?! I don't think it's "showing off". I also don't think women should necessarily do it specifically because they are 'proud' of their pregnant bodies. I just think that if a woman normally wears a bikini at the beach, there's nothing different in wearing it pregnant or not. I am genuinely surprised that (taking cultural and religious issues aside) women here, other mothers, find the exposure of a pregnant belly offensive...more offensive than one that's not pregnant. Pregnant or not, all who spend time in the sun should do it safely but yes, pregnant women's skin can be more sensitive.

Can someone please explain why the Wiggles tickets are soooooo pricey here. A minimum ticket price of AED 200 for a toddler and this is for back of the bus seating. Good tickets are AED 350. In the UK the price of tickets is £16 which is less than AED100. Why why why do things have to be double the price here??? My little ones will be very disappointed but I just can't justify it - we will have to stick with the DVD's for now! When we went to see them last year in Dubai, at least one, maybe two of the guys weren't there and the other guys looked sooo old. They didn't do any songs that I knew and I was pretty disappointed - so don't feel so bad about missing it. Anyways, maybe they needed to up their fee to save for their retirement? Oh my...NO!! I'm so sorry you were disappointed. I thought they were brilliant and even though there were many songs my children and I didn't know we had a ball. Only Murray was missing...I was slightly gutted 'cause he's one of my favourites. Funny, funny man!! But the fella they had standing in for him did a great job. Lol...they are old. :D Half of the jokes were about Geoff finally getting his pension card. For blokes who were 20's to 30's when they started and this year is their 20th anniversary, I think their energy levels and fitness are awesome! I'm with WaxMuch. High ticket prices will be due to the ridiculous costs enforced on them but the powers that be in the UAE. With a complete sell-out in no time at all last year, those who control these things will be seeing a way to further line their pockets. It will also not be the Wiggles insisting that infants pay. That will be the venue or Municipality. edited by Green-ish on 12/04/2011

Hatta Fort Hotel is lovely when travelling with young children. It's not flashy, but also not too expensive. The rooms are GORGEOUS. It's a good spot to stay for a couple of nights and spend your days lazing by the pool or exploring the area. http://www.jebelali-international.com/properties/hatta/hotel/Overview.aspx

.....even if your baby has not yet dropped? Yes...best to see your Dr if you're not sure. ETA - Ah, if baby is still moving as normal, then possibly not. They tend to go a tad quiet before the main event. :) The 'show' can happen days before true labour sets in. Maybe try to find a few minutes to sit somewhere quiet and really focus on your body and what it's doing. If you can still yourself for a while you'll get a better feeling of what's going on. edited by Green-ish on 11/04/2011

Absolutely wear what you feel comfortable in, my first preganancy was horrible and you wouldn't have caught me dead in a bikini or even partically dressed in the sun haha my second was totally different I had a great neat little bump and wore a bikini and felt good about it. Later in pregnancy its more about feeling comfortable so maybe an all in one would give your belly support or you might be luckly and not need any :) Do what you feel good about :) In really interested to see the comments about not wanting to see a bump in all its glory, I had no idea people were put off by it, I mean there are surely much worse things to be seen on the beach ;) lol edited by JShepherd on 11/04/2011 Oh, HALLELUIAH! My first pregnancy I was the size of a small condo and I hated, hated, hated the way I looked. I am hoping this time round I'm going to have one of those neat little bumps and reading your post gives me hope! Hurrah! I really don't get what's so distasteful about a bump. I honestly don't. To me, distasteful is butt cheeks hanging out the bottom of shorts; thongs; budgie smugglers; that kind of thing. Not the most natural thing in the world. A - completely agree with you. I don't understand what's distasteful about it either. Being comfortable in your skin when pregnant and dressing appropriately to the occasion does not equal being an exhibitionist. B - SO EXCITED FOR YOU and Mr Cat!! Congratulations lovely lady!! xxx

I don't know what the specific manufacturers recommendations are, but we have one (BEST budget highchair out there I think! ;) ) and my 13kg, 17month old, tall, chubby girl is very comfortable in it. In fact, when my 26kg almost 6yr old thinks no-one is watching, he climbs in looking for a reaction. ;) My middle girl used it until she was over 2yrs and little miss will be in there as long as I can use it to contain the mess. :D It's very stable, very strong and safe WITH close supervision as it has no decent harness. If it's available, the tray is a cheap must-have. That way the chair can be used anywhere in the house or clip the tray off and push the chair up to the table with the family. ETA - stores easily too as you can pull the legs off and tuck it all away in a cupboard. edited by Green-ish on 11/04/2011

Does he watch them already? None of mine have been even vaguely interested in the TV until at least 18 months and not really 'watching' anything until at least 2. If you already have a few DVD's, why not just take those and not spend the money on something he may not even pay any attention to? :) Otherwise, buy a few lovely music CD's and he may enjoy those more (Wiggles, Justine Clarke, nursery rhymes etc). Some of the Baby Einstein DVD's are good just for background sounds. When mine were a little older they loved the Baby MacDonald and baby Beethoven.

I have this one - http://www.booninc.com/products/PottyBench and it's been fabulous! It used to be available at Just Kidding...don't know if it still is. I originally tried the basic fit-under-the-toilet-seat jobbie but my son, who was a very big boy for his age, just couldn't get comfortable on it and wouldn't sit long enough to get on with the job. The bench was fantastic for him. I've never used it as anything but a potty (ie the side storage and toilet roll holder were wasted on us) but the wide, comfy seat was perfect. It's also not too ugly and lid closed, slid nicely into a corner. Since it will be soon used for the third time with toddler number three, it's also been money well spent. Still looks like new, is dead easy to clean and is rock solid. ETA - I've just looked at the JK website. I can't see the potty bench there, but they do stock other Boon products so may have it in the store or be able to order it in. edited by Green-ish on 11/04/2011

(ETA - oops...just realised you've answered my questions below already! Sorry. :) ) I apologise if I've missed this, but is your little one breastfed or on formula? Has he literally not done a poo in a month or does he get constipated between poos? Is he uncomfortable and unhappy? I have a good friend who's breastfed baby did a poo only once every three or four weeks. While that's pretty unusual, their Dr decided that was just her 'normal'. The baby was not uncomfortable and was thriving in every way. When she did go, her stools were absolutely normal. Just particularly efficient use of the breastmilk! ;) Of all the suggestions below, glycerin suppositories had the fastest results for us when my son had troubles. They are safe, easy to use and they work. I hope all is well. :) edited by Green-ish on 11/04/2011 edited by Green-ish on 11/04/2011

What's the end result of a labour with no pain relief? Your baby. What's the end result of a labour with an epidural or any other drugs you can lay your hands on? Your baby. You don't get a medal for doing it au naturel. Do whatever you need on the day and don't [i'>ever[/i'> let anyone make you feel bad about it. Agreed...as long as you go into it educated about the possible implications of using those drugs. I am not anti-pain relief, but I am very much pro-education. There are possible negative consequences for both Mum and Baby, so as long as you make informed decisions, you can approach labour ready for whatever it throws at you. My personal experience after two labours with epidural and one without was that I had a FAR faster recovery time after no drugs. Of course, every woman, every baby and every labour is unique so there are many, many factors that decide how your birthing experience and recovery will go. Best wishes to you! edited by Green-ish on 11/04/2011

Hi Shaniqua. ACE usually has crates in stock. Make sure you do your research on how to use it properly so you and your puppy have success from the very beginning. I'm no expert but we found having a crate gave our dog a safe 'cave' when he needed time out from my two small children. It must not be used as a punishment or associated with anything negative.

I read Water For Elephants a few years ago and found it extremely frustrating. With every single page I had this weird feeling of déjà vu. Not just once, but every time I picked it up. I could also 'see' it all happening, like I'd seen a really old movie of almost the exact same story. I could predict chapters in advance what was going to happen with bizarre accuracy. No, I had not read it before. No, I'm not usually that perceptive. ;) Lol. For a while there I actually expected there to be some public outrage about plagiarism!

Have you spoken to your neighbour about the problem. I can only speak personally as a dog owner and to be honest if my dogs were barking when I was away, well I wouldn't know unless someone told me :(. On the other hand I would never ever leave my dogs for 8 hours on their own - its just far too long. I sympathise with your predicament, constant barking is just awful to put up with. I agree...it's only fair to give the neighbours a chance. If they're not there and haven't been told then it's only fair to give them a chance to fix the problem. If however you tell them, they know and don't care then it's time to take further action. I feel for you, and for the poor dogs. Content dogs don't bark for long periods. :(

We also had a Mirdif LL who would not negotiate rent down so we moved out to a bigger villa for less money. It's worth adding up the costs of moving, agents fees etc to work out how much cheaper a new villa would have to be to actually save anything in the first year. Funny thing was our old villa stayed empty for almost 6 months and the new tenants got it for many thousands less than we had been paying.

do you have 2 adults and 3 children (5 people) or 5 adults + 3 children in the car? If first option you can book in advance and ask for a 7 people carrier that will fit everybody & everything :) This describes our last trip to the airport exactly...with tonnes of luggage. We pre-booked a people mover and a regular cab and really didn't need the extra car. My tips - book the day before for an hour before you really need to leave - call them again an hour before the booked time make sure they will be on time

I think letting go for some people is very hard. Perhaps it's made harder if your life is not hugely full. I don't care if people who left continue to post, but I do notice that there are a few who seem to do so only in a very negative way. Major Dubai bashing goes on which seems to come under the category of flogging a dead horse. Edited to add that by hugely full I mean the difficulties of resettling and finding a new circle of friends, feeling part of a place again/ setting up in a new location etc. edited by mejane on 06/04/2011 This is probably 75% of the reason for me. If my life was a full as I'd like, I might not have time for my old mates in here. The other 25% is that I genuinely enjoy EW. I like contributing where I can, I like hearing what you're all up to and I love reading the latest scandal and having a giggle at the 'ridiculousness' of it all.

Interesting post Greenish, can I ask why you left Dubai, did you want to leave or did you have to? We are about to leave Dubai and although I always thought I would be happy to leave I have really mixed feelings when it comes to the crunch. Without realising I guess Dubai has become home for us! Also having the kids here makes it special. We did want to return to Australia but we wanted to do it on our own terms and in another year or so. My husband was made redundant and that being his second below average employment experience over there we decided enough was enough. Also, my son was due to start school here this year so we figured we might as well come home and settle him in. Two of my children were born there and that definitely creates a special connection. I cannot tell you how much I miss seeing dish dash and abaya everywhere. I want to hear the call to prayer and eat an Ikea shawarma. :( (LOL...I do love Ikea and sharwama in the same sentence. :D )

LOL monkeys. you dont drive through the al ain wildlife park, you walk. they have many shops for refreshments etc so dont worry, but be prepared, it's BIG. our first time there we got lost around the first roundabout, but phoned the park. the arabic gentlemen was extremely friendly & helpful and went out of his way to assist with directions. perhaps phone them beforehand, and then correlate what they said with the map you have? enjoy! Overpriced, cr*ppy refreshments though. I'd suggest taking a picnic...there are loads of lovely lawn areas where you can sit under the trees and relax. Have lots of ice in your esky and leave it in the car as you can go back and get it when you're ready to eat.
