I'm not sure if you can find one here. I use Dr Brown's glass bottles and have only used the Avent Sterilizer with them. It's a bit of a pain but i just lay the bottles down on the lower rack and they fit like that!

Thanks ladies - but I am not looking to straighten my hair... I just want it to stop being frizzy if that's possible in this weather! Does the Moroccan oil help with keeping the curls and taking out the frizz? Will check Spinney's meadows - thanks for that! :)

I know this is an old thread ladies, but was looking for some ideas for my hair - which used to be curly but is now pretty much always frizzy!!! I've heard good things about Moroccan Oil - any idea where I can find it now? And Frannie - is your hair still 'behaving' with the new method? Am very tempted to try it out - is that all there is to it? Cut out the shampoos with SLS (which are terrible for you anyway) and silicon conditioners (not sure about that as I have to use a regular conditioner and then a leave in just to get some 'control' over my hair :\: )... would love to hear an update from you!

CK30 I have some wide neck teats for the Dr. Brown's bottles that are still in their sealed packs. I think I have both Level 2 and Level 3 - let me know if you are interested and I'll check for you (too late at night right now for me to go looking for them :) )

CABear - the barking cough is generally a symptom of croup. They can be perfectly fine during the day with just a runny nose normally, but then have the barking cough at night. DD had it a couple times and we were told to hold her in front of the open freezer door as the cool air is supposed to help soothe the airways. We also invested in a humidifier after it first happened and it's never happened as bad since. When I read up about croup, I believe it is quite common in young children and GENERALLY nothing to worry about, but it CAN get serious if their airway gets too 'swollen' as then it can be hard for them to breathe. Generally, however, from what I understand, as long as he responded to what you did and went back to sleep, there should be nothing to worry about.

We were going to go to Caramel but have been there a few times so looking for some new recommendations. Ideally somewhere with music (so Petite Maison etc are out) and ideally not too smokey!! What are your thoughts on Okku, Mahiki, Tora Tora, Siddharta Lounge etc. (these are the names some friends threw out but I haven't been to any of them!) - is the food good? Are they all ridiculously pricey (a little pricey is ok as it's a special occasion but not insanely expensive :) ) There are 10 of us going.

Hi DC how are you doing? I've been going to the Little Gym with DD once a week now since around September and we love it! It's a 55 minute 'class' and the teachers are really nice - the little ones do a little singing, a little sign language, some walking/running, activities with bells, balls and other things. There is some 'free play' which is great and then they do a new skill of the week every week - which is generally roley poleys or walking on the beam etc. It is definitely not cheap but DD really enjoys it so we have just renewed for the next term as well (you don't have to buy a whole term in advance though - I think you can pay by the class or even buy a set of 10 classes).

DC just to add my experience, for us it was just an 'age thing'. When DD was really little, she just hated the car seat and would scream if the journey was longer than say 10-15 minutes. She would also start screaming in her stroller - we would make it half way round the block before she would start screaming and we'd have to take her out of the stroller (she was fine once we picked her up). But once she was around the 5-6 month mark (from what I recall) she just didn't seem to mind it as much and it all got much easier. I think she just wanted to be close to mama and maybe didn't like being restrained in the car seat and it made her feel insecure, but as she got older she was fine. I remember I would read posts on here and there were some babies who still hated their carseats at age 2 and I was really worried she'd be like that, but thankfully she grew out of it!! Hope the same happens for you!

I am having the same problem. DD is now 14 months old and my weight loss has ground to a complete halt! I have been working out (ok on and off!) since DD was about 6-7 weeks old, but I am certain it is more due to my nutritional choices (!!) rather than lack of exercise. I am curious - has anyone really managed to lose weight successfully while still breastfeeding (and I don't mean you lucky (careful!) ones who only put on 10-12kgs for your pregnancy but those of us who put on 18-25kgs during pregnancy). I know many women who have shrunk back to their normal sizes very quickly but none of them bf at all or did it for a very short period of time. So basically I am hoping that the weight will magically fall off once I stop (not to say I am in a hurry to stop as I am happy to continue for some time still... but it would be nice to lose these extra 10kgs that are making me feel like a whale, especially if we want to try for #2 later this year :\: )

Oh dear - I guess you can tell I haven't been visiting the health & fitness section as I only just saw this thread :\: I really would love to start the shred again so let me know when you guys are up for it (DC hope you get the all clear soon :) ) Btw I saw on another thread that you were looking to start Slimming World - first time I heard of that - did you start and is it any good? As for me, I haven't moved a single pound over the past few months - have been working out - at our community gym using the cross trainer and some JM style torture moves :), and more recently going back to Pilates 2-3 times a week and doing Zumba twice a week. Clearly I am eating wrong or my metabolism has just needs a bigger push to get it jump-started again ;) I am still bf DD though so I keep telling myself that the excess weight will magically fall off when I stop! Sigh!

Hey Plumie - DD and I are doing great - I cannot believe our babies are a year old already!!! How is your DD doing? Are you going to any playgroups/activities etc? We have been doing the baby swim with Dawn for about 5 months now, which she LOVES :) and also The Little Gym at Ibn Battuta which is also tons of fun but I haven't made it to any coffee mornings/playgroups yet! I guess I'll give mums and tots a go - any chance you're heading to one in the near future :)

Sorry I should have clarified - she only had the low fever for the 2 days, and the poo seems pretty much back to normal (although she's still going 2 or sometimes 3 times a day as opposed to just once before). Now it's just the fussiness when eating - but I guess that's more to do with her age than anything else? She'll generally eat a good breakfast of oats/fruit/multi-grain cereal/yogurt etc but seems to be very picky with her lunch and dinner. She did throw up again yesterday - it was almost 3 hours after she'd had a good lunch (pasta, peas and pumpkin) but it all came out in the car as we were driving out 3 hours later! Brought her home immediately, put her in the bath and afterwards she happily devoured a whole slice of toast and some yogurt followed by bm :)

Just bumping this up as she is still not eating too well. She seems to only want carbs, fruit and yogurt - should I just assume this is a (teething) phase and give her only those foods or keep trying to feed her other stuff?

Sorry ladies - had some computer trouble so could not log on for the past couple of days. Thank you for your replies - am glad to hear that these are most likely just 'side-effects' of teething. We never really had any trouble with the first 8 teeth (except for a little more frequent pooing before the first one came out, but nothing really since) so I just wasn't sure. I really was beginning to think that maybe she also had a light tummy bug at the same time but her tummy seems better now and if loss of appetite and the smelly frequent poos are a sign of teething then that makes sense. She's been putting her fingers and hand in her mouth a lot more recently so the tooth must really be bugging her. As a matter of curiosity, how did you handle the loss of appetite part? I do realize that they will eat if they are hungry and I do not want to encourage bad/picky eating habits but do I keep offering her loads of different things or should I just give her the 2-3 things that she will eat at the moment, i.e. bread, plain brown rice with butter, plain pasta with butter and yoghurt, oh and she'll eat blueberries by the bucketload :) I've been cooking for her everyday but she'll eat 1-2 bites and then refuses to eat those foods after that :(

I second SweetLily - although we used a regular MaxiCosi for DD until recently as I did not even know about the options of having a rear facing until 4-5 etc, when we switched her into the bigger seat now, we ordered from carseat.se Hakan is super helpful and will answer all your questions and queries and tell you which car seat would be right for you depending on your requirements and the size of your car etc.

Hi Angela - I have just bought the High-way 2 - haven't installed it yet but did a lot of research before buying it. Go to www.carseat.se - if you email them on there, Hakan will respond to you promptly and is extremely knowledgeable about all things related to car seats. Tell him your requirements/concerns and he will recommend the correct one. We have the Axkid Kidzofix as I wanted a heavy duty car seat that is rear facing but has the option to be turned around as I wasn't sure how realistic it is to keep DD in it rear facing until she is 4-5 (although I'm hoping to!) and just bought the Hi-Way 2 which we will use for the second car and mainly for when we travel as it is compact, light weight and fits into most cars (rear facing until 25kgs). All the best!

Have you seen the movie Machine Gun Preacher? Saw it recently and was really moved by what this guy is doing in Sudan. He has been right in the middle of a war zone and has taken these children under his wing and built them an orphanage, playgrounds etc and basically kept them safe and away from the horrors of war as much as possible. He has a website where you can donate directly, buy merchandise to support his cause or help in many other ways: http://www.machinegunpreacher.org/

Just to update, we did put her to bed at 5:30pm recently on a day when she had only had one nap, and although she did get up for more feeds, she slept better, did not cry and was not as restless :) We're still on 2 naps on some days and for the moment she seems to sleep better with that, but the days when we have afternoon activities (we do swimming lessons and The Little Gym once a week each in the afternoons), it becomes harder to squeeze that second nap in, so on those days it's an earlier bed time. Kiwispiers - as a matter of curiosity, what schedule do you follow for mealtimes/bf for your DS? I ask as i am having a hard time fitting it all in on the days with the earlier bedtime!

The one or two times when she didn't take an afternoon nap at all, she slept very badly at night - crying and restless and woke up more than usual so that makes me think she needs even a little 20-30 minute nap in the afternoon. However, I have not tried putting her to bed at or before 6pm (earliest has been 6:30pm) so will give that a try too! Thanks again :)

I'm having a real hard time figuring out DD's naps! She has recently started fighting her afternoon naps, which makes me think that she is ready to go down to just one nap. She goes down easily for her morning nap, and that is very often at 9am. She'll GENERALLY nap for 1.5 hrs in the morning, sometimes going up to 2 hours. But if she's up at 11am, there's no way she can go up to 7pm as it's just too long a gap. So if she gets tired late afternoon, I'll let her nap for 20-30 mins and then just put her to bed at around 7:30pm or 8pm. Of course, it changes all the time - yesterday she woke up a little later than usual, so didn't go down for a nap until 10am - we thought she'll sleep for a good 2 hours, but after 30 minutes she was up and about! So then she slept again at about 1:30pm for an hour and 15 minutes which was fine.

Thanks ladies! The interrupted sleep is not fun by any means but I try to just take it one day at a time and all of a sudden it's been a year already :) Most of the time, she'll wake up and go straight back to sleep once she goes on the b**b so it's not too bad, and luckily I have good help at home, so I catch up on some sleep in the morning. And yes, I keep hoping one of these days she'll surprise us and stop waking up in the night for her feeds. Flymum - thanks for the suggestion, but in the past I did try up to 8oz dream feeds of expressed milk and really found no difference in her sleep or the number of times she wakes up. I did also for a while try night time formula just to see if it changes anything and it didn't, so I just figured I'll go with it and one of these days she'll be ready to sleep through the night. As I've mentioned on here before, she's super active during the day and so really has very little milk throughout the day and when she does, it's really just a snack, so I am happy for her to feed at night since I know that way she's getting her necessary supply of bm. Kiwispiers - I haven't taken her in for an official weigh-in etc recently but she's around 11.5kgs and quite a tall baby and has been growing consistently so I'm quite sure she's on the right track. She also eats 3 good meals a day + a snack in between so she's getting sufficient solids. I'm not quite ready to wean her off bm completely yet (isn't it supposed to be the other way round - that she's not ready to be weaned off yet ;) ) so I think I'll start introducing more dairy into her daily diet. I have already used cheese, milk and butter when cooking her food so I'll start giving her a little milk in sippy cups to see how she likes it. I guess my main question was whether I should be giving her bottles of milk and whether they should be substituting a feed, but I think that's been answered now so thank you :) edited by GreenQueen on 16/11/2011
