I tried to check if I could give DS's to you (he has 2), but unfortunately can't find the * wings* for one of them. Sorry :(

That's the point!!! The other day DS ( who's 4months) wore a very cute baby pink jumper with little heart motifs to the mall and most of the people goes , ooooo..... She is soo cute! When it got irritating , I told it's a he and the lady goes pink is for girls!!!!! edited by Mom.an.me on 08/02/2012 Yeah that's for girls .. Lol ... Pink with hearts :D .. But at 4 months my DS used to wear a tshirt that read 'baby girl' (in tiny letters of course :D) But They do lovely macho pink for boys! My DS has one and he looks the best in it! But very hard to find it (I got DS's from Next) because of the stereo typing probably.

Works for me and I also know he is not going to be this way when he is 25! The problem is, if a child is brought up eating in front of the TV, this is EXACTLY what he'll still be doing when he's 25... especially when he's 25, in fact! There have been studies that have looked into eating habits and obesity and apparently, eating in front of a TV, or in front of any other distraction, does make us eat more, and eat it faster, without paying attention to quality or quantity. That's one thing if you're a toddler being spoonfed healthy stuff (but they won't know that), but the point is it creates a lifetime habit and once kiddo moves out of home, it'll be a large pizza, soda and all sorts of junk. So, it's fundamentally unhealthy. It also shuts down social interaction. I was actually really deprived as a child because my parents didn't have a telly until I was about 4 (severe sarcasm there). We always ate in the dining room together and although I can remember times when I fussed and refused to eat something (and didn't get my way), I also remember that some of our best family moments were around mealtimes. Like some of the others, my parents were Old Skoool when it came to meals - you ate what you were given, no one was allowed down from the table until you'd finished and if you fussed and it went cold, you ate it cold. Puddings were a treat, and we didn't have one every day. Actually, the first time I was allowed to refuse something because I didn't like it was when I was 11! I would have a fit if anyone I cooked for brought out an iPad or similar whilst eating the meal. edited by Hello.Again.Kitty on 02/02/2012 Sorry I had not seen this message! My point is HAK, I am not *bringing* him up that way (like it may seem or is it?!)! DS2 (1 yr) eats without the need of a distraction, while DS1 is the opposite (from as long as I can remember)! I also must mention that DS1 is underweight (13 kgs at 3.5 yrs) and I am worried sick if he misses a meal! I rather have him eat something than nothing!

My one year old also says dada. And that's the only real word he says. He calls everyone dada right now. And with experience I can say it is absolutely normal! DS1 started saying proper words only when he was 2. He started calling me mama at 1.5 yrs. When he did start to speak, he started singing entire nursery rhymes! It is normal to get worried sick looking at other children or reading on the Internet. I have posted a thread or two on the same earlier! But with my second I know it is normal and he would pick up words in no time. Relax :) and enjoy the days while they can't speak. Honest to G*d you will miss these days when they would call you 'mama' a thousand times a day! :/:

I once told my 3.5 yr old and 1 yr old that I want to run away somewhere and never come back! Their frightened look said it all. Now everytime I am about to burst ... DS1 would blurt out "Mama, will you run away and never come back?" :D I hate the parent I am *almost* everyday ... these little b*ggers can be taxing. I am certain every parent at some point of time does snap. If they dont they write parenting books :D

I'm not sure that honey is "good" its basically just another form of sugar (so empty calories) but it is considered a "safe" treat in small amounts after around 12 months. I was always told that honey has medicinal properties (for common cold, cough etc) and hence it is good. It is used in many ayurvedic medicines.

sound kicking never worked. How can one eat when crying :( My dad had to do it only once. After that someone only had to mention the word 'Dad'!! The use of TV or distraction for dinner is with DS1. I also have DS2 who will eat without it.

I wonder how our parents managed to feed us with only 2 tv channels back in the day? Or how their parents got them to eat with no tv at all? Apparently I was also a fussy eater and we had no TV either. Sound kicking is what set me right :D May be that is what DS needs ;)

I can't believe some of these responses - why don't you just get your maid to run around after them and spoon food into their mouths? Then you will have a really socialised child who will really fit in well at school or nursery - oh wait, you will be posting on here about how they are getting kicked out of there ......... This is a wind up, right? SM .... I dont think its a wind up. I have got myself into a similar situation *gulp*. There you go .... I confessed! But I also know that what I am doing is wrong and I need to correct it. After running around for hours behind my now 3.5 yr old DS to eat, I just took the easy way out and put him before the TV. He eats better, but I am not happy I have to do this. BUT I would have felt worse and irritated if he never ate after me trying to make him eat for 2-3 hours. He is fussy, underweight and I sometimes feel if it was me who has made him this way. Whatever it is, I feel guilty enough that he is fussy and underweight ... and honestly can do without criticism on how I make him eat his dinner! Works for me and I also know he is not going to be this way when he is 25! That does not mean I do not try and change this habit of his, which was created by 'me' to help 'me' remain sane. As mothers we have enough to feel guilty about. If this is the worst thing I could do to my child, it would be a feather in my cap.

Don't forget "Maybe you should fly a jet" by Dr Seuss ... Maybe you should fly a jet, maybe you should be a vet! :) It's nice to see his 10 year old face discovering new things he can do when he grows up. ("No, not everything in life is about the army and rifles and shooting!") It's a boy thing isn't it?! Shooting, fighting, cars ... all seem to come naturally! edited by hiccup on 31/01/2012

Never used Gulf Air so not sure.) And as about Mumbai Airport it is ok for an Indian Airport ;) Jet Airways is supposed to be the best in India.

5'4 and 54 kgs is normal! Even if it was not ... nobody has any right to comment on your weight! Or on your tummy (like it mostly happens with me...after 2 kids it is I think a bit normal to have a little fat around your waist?) When does it get easier? 1 yr and 1 month and counting ...... Lol! But nothing compared to the first 3 months which were a nightmare! It definitely gets a lot easier as the second one grows up! DS1 is now 3.5 and he is so much more matured than what he was at 2.5! He is a lot more independent and he can keep himself busy. My day is still bustling with energy though. Now my role has changed from the tired sick mother to the referee. When will this kids stop walloping each other? Argh! I think it never gets easier. We just get used to it. Lol!

Gave this to my 12 year old and heres her answer 2/5=4/10=10/25=14/35 She gave me the how too, but in one ear out the other :) It's pretty simple. 2/5=x/10 I.e 2*10 = x*5 I.e 20 = 5x I.e x = 20/5 so x = 4 Then proceed with all the rest similarly.

Thanks slobber knocker for your reply. I refreshed this page so many times to see for replies! I think I just want to hear I am not a failure. Hate being stuck here alone without DH (while he enjoys his vacation) and being judged by his entire family. I did say I love him and so does his baby bro. But he just kept saying 'I don't love you mama'. My only comfort is this little chirpy guy .... And today he just broke my heart. We have had this 'I don't love you' episodes earlier and it always ended well. But today I couldn't comfort him. I think that is a part of the reason why I feel like a failure.

Hitting might possibly be the worst thing you do to him now. He needs more love and reassurance. Giving him priority over baby will work wonders. Trust me on those lines. Been there done that.

Oh DC! I am with you with the no hitting policy. I was met with a lot of negativity and the bad parent tag everytime DS did something wrong and all I did was take him out of the situation immediately, divert his mind, calm him down first and then talk about why what he did was wrong ( they understand a bit even at that age). I always made sure he knew I was upset. Today I don't have to resort to hitting (i would confess to shouting) for anything. He is a very loving child and he would apologize immediately if he knows mom and dad are not happy. I am sure its a phase and With new baby in house tantrums are pretty normal occurrence! Hang on there and follow your heart. Thankfully DH and I have the same parenting style!

I settled DS's toys a few weeks ago. Action figures in one box, puzzle pieces in another, building blocks, lots of teeny tiny cars in a big box. Everything was looking perfect until DS started playing. :/: everything was a mess again in about 10 mins (considering I took an hour to sort things out) Now I just chuck everything into his play tent and save my time and sanity. :D

I tell my 3 yr old the hansel and gretel story where the witch is a description of a real life stranger. He mostly follows and knows he shouldn't do anything without asking mom and dad and that strangers can be dangerous who might give you everything you like, like candies, icecreams etc only to make witch soup out of you! I think DS does concur a bit now! I hope I never find out if it works in real life situations.
