Hmm .... I dont know ... I haven't experienced this with my elder one. I have no clue what to do. The areas between his thighs seem to be dry and healing. If it doesnt get better soon, I would take a second opinion. Thanks janesul for your advice. edited by hiccup on 05/12/2011

It was prescribed by my pead. And on the cover it does say that it "heals" nappy rash. Not sure!

Thankyou everyone. We were at the Peaditrician in the ranches yesterday. Im going to try the cream Janesul gave me and hope it clears it up. if it hasnt in a few days (or as long as my nerves can stand) im going back up to the dr to get a second opinion. There were more tears (hers and mine) when i went to bath her tonight and as soon as the water touched the area she screamed. it really is soul destroying to see her in such pain, she is usually such a happy wee soul. :-( My DS is going through the exact same thing as your DD. He had diahorrea for 5 days and it was rotavirus (he has been vaccinated for this too). The diahorrea has settled, but it left him with bad nappy rash. It has healed to a great extent (with sudocream and changing the nappy as soon as its wet) but he still cries bitterly everytime I give him a bath :( .... He used to love his bath time. I hope your DD feels better soon. Hate to see the LOs in so much pain :( edited by hiccup on 05/12/2011

mine has his nap every day, cause our daddy is at home during his lunch break and he makes us all to take a nap so we won't disturb him :D LOL! Ditto! When daddy wants to sleep we all HAVE to sleep! My 3 yr old takes a nap too (for about an hour) on some days. But when he does his sleep time goes from 8 pm -7:00 am to 10 pm to 7 am.

I tend to find that I wear about three different sizes depending on the brand and/or cut. I find in particular with M&S that I will sometimes try a size bigger then my normal size and it won't fit and sometimes I will be able to fit in a size smaller in a different garment. So frustrating!!! I bought 3 tops from M&S. Size 10, 12 and 14 :/: It is frustrating especially when DH surprises me with tops that are all the wrong size!!

I try to make my DD's lunch box the opposite to mine as it was soo unhealthy ( I was brought up on so much sugar and processed food) and luckliy both my lo's are pretty good with healthy food and vegs. The only bad thing I sent in once, was a few ghost crisps for Halloween as I thought it would be something sweet for my DD, they came back and were NOT allowed to be eaten! :( I wouldn't mind but usually her snack box is so good, fruit, brown bread sarnies, yougurt, carrot sticks ect ... have never put chocolate, sweets, cakes ect incase I am shot at dawn lol They were not allowed to eat?! I hope they dont start imposing fines for sending "unhealthy" food in OUR children's box! ;)

Children with severe allergies have to be constantly monitored whether in home, school or birthday parties. Cakes could be banned. What about home made lunch boxes? What if the child takes a bite out of his buddy's lunch box? I dont understand. How could you possibly control this? I am sure banning is not the answer. Educating the child is. And responsible elders (parents, teachers) play the key role. The school seems to be taking a short cut. I am not insensitive. I am a mother myself and I know how it feels to see your LO in pain. I am just being sensible and practical.

So swimming causes tonsilitis? NO Doesnt! But you could catch loads of viruses in there and may be thats the reason why they have said no swimming! DS is allowed to 'sit' in the water but not put his head inside! Weird I know! I think you need to seek a better ENT and pead Hiccup. There are ways your child can enjoy the water, and i would check at the nursery about their pool cleaning program. Yes, I know I should and I am already in the process of doing so.

hiccup...has your son been assessed for possible surgery? Poor little fella. They (his paed and ENT) have asked us to wait for another year (he is 3 now). He's had 8 courses of antibitotics this year for this issue alone. Not sure why they want him to suffer another year! I am going for a third opinion. Thanks for asking Greenish :)

I am not sure when the trend for cakes started ... but when I was a kid about 20 yrs back, children did bring in little toffees and chocolates as birthday treats. And IMO there is absolutely no harm in a little treat once in a while! As about children with allergies, dont you think it would be too much to ask 25 children to adjust for one child? DS is restricted from things like cold drinks and swimming, as he suffers from severe case of tonsilitis and everytime he catches a sniffle he ends up with white pus filled patches on his tonsils leaving the little fellow in severe pain. They have a weekly pool day in nursery and he is the only child who has to sit in the class while other kids enjoy their time in the pool (and DS loves swimming). I wish they banned swimming in the nursery ... not. I would be selfish if I wished that! Whilst I feel really do feel sorry for your LO missing out, you could choose a different nursery that doesn't have pool time on their curriculum if he suffers so badly from missing out, however, I think it's a bit different if a child could die or become severely ill from accidental exposure to something that has nothing to do with their education. Their parents can't really choose not to send them to school (I suppose they could home school, but that is not really practical for everyone) so I think it responsible for a school to ban such items, even just on the off chance. I don't mind if my LO doesn't get 'extras' at school if it might save another childs life. I would hope all parents would agree. Where do you draw the line to allergies? Every child might be allergic to something! My 'extra' was only an example.

I wish they banned swimming in the nursery ... not. I would be selfish if I wished that! All due respect, I agree about the cake thing too. A piece of cake is fine as a treat, I have no issue with that! But I do think 25 children need to adjust to one child's need if it is an allergy, as that can be life threatening!!! I would be more than happy for my DD to "adjust" for this reason! I am sorry if my post came across as laid back. It is the responsibility of the parents and the teachers to ensure such children do not get in touch with their allergens. There are lot of other suggestions given here and that seems reasonable enough. I wont send nuts in my child's lunch box ... since I know it could kill some child. But banning a cake is OTT. A cake without nuts is reasonable. Banning cake???? We are not talking nuts here are we?!

The locals I have met are mostly friendly. But I have never had the opportunity to be *friends* with them. I think there are not many locals here which is weird! plumie ... sounds very much like DS when he is not well. He had ear infection and heavy cold / cough with 39 temp. He would throw up at nights (mostly). I would suggest observing DD (chk if fever returns or if DD is pulling her ears) and take her to the doc again if she doesnt feel better soon. Insist on a blood work and a stool test if required (to check for tummy infection, which is common once they start crawling)

The men are keeping me totally busy! I must say that the little men are easier to handle, the big baby is the one that takes most of my time! LOL Teething can also make children fussy and cranky (especially molars) ... so it might be that. But LOs sometimes go through a phase of not eating well and then eating like little monsters! It might just be a phase. Dont worry about the weight loss too much unless it is associated with obvious issues like fever! They would pick up as fast as they lost it :) Atleast that's how DS has been. He's been just recovering from a severe attack of tonsilitis (thanks to DS1). And he lost 200 gms in 4 days! And gained them back in two days again! So that's where you have been hiding! Hope the running around has helped you shift the baby weight though ;) Tonsilitis has been doing its rounds, a friend had her baby hospitilized last week-end as he become dehydrated due to not wanting to eat or drink any solids or liquids for days :( Will monitor and go with my instincts! And the bacteria on the round is the infamous strep. DS1 had white patches all over his tonsils! Poor guy cried for 4 days whenever he ate / drank / swallowed his saliva, before he felt a bit better :( DS2 refused to even BF for 2 days :( ... and his bibs were always wet with drool as he could never swallow his saliva. Hard to see children suffer.

Hiya plumie!! DS had severe loose motions and vomitting when he first started teething. So much so that he was almost dehydrated and he lost weight very rapidly. Is this DD's first teething experience? If yes, then weight loss shouldnt be of much concern. I have observed that DS is particularly fussy with food, when he is coming in for some kind of infection. Hope thats not the case with your DD. I hope the poor little bub feels better soon!

Today we were in a Yaris ... rent a car (not that we have our own car just yet! ;)) .... in Dubai Mall waiting in the never ending queue for the SZR exit (I am not sure why the powers of Dubai Mall thought it would be a good idea to have floors and floors of parking and one exit? Or are there more exits that none of the drivers are aware of?) . And we felt like a little kitten being bullied by a bunch of ferocious dogs! Ok .. that was a weird comparison ... but really thats how I felt!! All the 4x4s were flashing, pushing, shoving, honking and basically scaring the wits out of us (and we had 3 children in our car)! Then there was this Maserati that wanted all the cars in front of it to vanish :/: Must have been a VVVVVVVVVVIP shopping in Dubai Mall ;) Money does make people inconsiderate and rude! Oh my - you are opening a big old can of subjective worms with this question! You might find that you have very little choice in the end because you will remain waitlisted and have to settle for wherever you can get places. Do you know where you are on the lists? LOL! I was going to say that as well!! I thought all these schools had waiting lists until 2050? :D

I found the terrible threes far worse than the terrible twos. It's the same with a wiser, more knowledgeable twist! Nightmare! We had and will be implementing again soon for DC3, a naughty towel. It works on the same priniciple as the step/corner but it's portable so you can whip it out in C4 if necessary! A naughty towel??? LOL Innovative and brilliant :D

I think I have been out of EW for quite some time now! :/: Yes indeed! But that was the fastest pregnancy in the history of pregnancies :D. I well remember those conversations. It seems so surreal that it was such a battle to fall pregnant with DS and here we are with two of them... I have one of those with a 5 year older sibling. I have "I don't love you anymore" type comments quite regularly. I have stomping off in sulks and blue lips from screaming so hard oxygen is lacking. Seriously, maybe I am weird but NORMALLY I just find it quite funny and do normally try to ignore. There are some occasions, however, when my stress levels reach the max - normally out and about. Not much advice except to try as much as you can to laugh it off. Normally start to be really silly, blowing raspberries, tickling, running around like a nutter to try and distract. I also always answer back that I love him evn if he doesn't love me, blahblah. Good luck and deep breaths. I love this idea! I think I am going to give that a try. Hate to give him the ignore and silent treatment!

Thank you ladies for your replies. DS is only starting school now ... so I am not really sure what he would want. When I see him ... he doesnt really look like a science / maths guy :-/ ..... More of the creative type, I think. I too loved the idea of independent learning and that is what made me choose IB. And if it does leave the children with time for some play ... I think I would give it a try. Being a parent is soo difficult!
