Unfortunately the B&B in Jumeirah was shut down but there are lots of decent hotels in Barsha to stay likes of: Holiday Inn Express Golden Tulip Coral Boutique Seven Sands To name a few :) :) Barsha is a safe area plus the ones i mentioned above are a 5 min walk from Mall of The Emirates and the metro station :) Hope you find something you are looking for. Also the suggestions the ladies made below are great ones also!

This is just a quick thank you to such kind people on here. My husband and I have recently moved to Dubai and have had so much help on here. We have had some wonderful things donated to us to get us started and this has been such a fantastic help whilst we find our feet and have been low on funds whilst job hunting. I start my job tomorrow and thanks to some amazing people on here I am ready and confident to begin doing what I love - Working with children. The advice on places to go has also been so great!! Thanks to everyone!! I shall certainly be looking to do the same for others :D Thanks again x You are just so wonderful to post such a lovely message. Have a fantastic first day at work and hope you find your feet and your way around Dubai quickly. Best of luck to you :) x

Hello! I had to go through a similar scenario for my A Level, GCSE & Uni Certificates, fortunately i did my GCSE's and A Levels in Dubai so the school attested them for me, and as for my uni certificate i had that attested at my university in the UK prior to my departure back to Dubai. The MOFA accepted these no problem and stamped them there and then. Therefore, to make a long story short, i am sure that the stamp from the BC should be sufficient, if not the BE is just around the corner from MOFA and i am sure they will do it there any then. Hope that helps :)

I'm sure it you take it to somewhere like Clara's or Cleo in the Gold & Diamond Park they can do it for you. As for price, like you mentioned it will definitely be based on size etc

I struggle with eye drops and eye test ( when they blow air in your eyes). I literally have to be pinned down on the floor to get eye drops applied. So, cannot even contemplate the thought of having an operation for something like this. Although, I would love to have super long and thick lashes. Ha ha love your post, made me chuckle - i know the exact feeling!!!!

Oh what a shame, that must be so hard for you!!! I will ask around to see if anyone is looking for a cat to adopt, i would offer but unfortunately i have a dog who does not like cats in the slightest! Regarding 'Cat Sitters' from experience with boarding my dog when i go on holiday, i would recommend either Dubai Kennels & Cattery or Posh Paws :)

Saudi German or Al Zahra in Barsha (not sure if Zahra is open yet) i think they are the closest. I would not recommend Med Care i and many people i know have had absolute disasters there! For either if you have LO's maybe call and check if they have Pediatric emergency doctors yet as they are both new :)

I've heard of this new treatment where you can implant hair from your natural head hair that grows permanently onto your eyelids so that your eyelashes will be permanently longer. Supposedly it only takes an hour to do. Can't say I have not been intrigued even though the idea of plastic surgery is a bit scary. I know a girl from back home who had it done and her eyelashes are so beautiful, thick, and long now. does any one have any experience with this? doctors in dubai? price? Ohhh your brave..... a bit extreme for me, i would just prefer t stick mine on!

If you are willing to invest in one, there is a kiosk in festival city (i think there is one in ibn batuta as well) that covers your iphone or ipad (front, back, and sides). The cover has a lifetime warranty so if it ever peels, take it back to them (with the cover still on) and they will replace it free of charge :) i paid 130 dhs to get my iphone done for just a clear film.. They have some with designs at the back for 180 dhs. Not sure of the price for the ipad though. The one at festival city is on the hyperpanda side of the mall. If burger king is to your back, walk straight towards damas etc and it will be on your right (i think by the elevators). Its the only one there. These are great! i get mine from Hotline Mobile Phone in Satwa for just AED 30 :) great bargin if you are willing to lug yourself down there!

I know this may not be very helpful but in my experience you just know when you know its time, you just have to follow your gut instinct on this one unfortunately. It is hard in both matters and it is wonderful of you for thinking about your cats comfort before your own :) I understand it is hard to leave a poorly cat behind when you are at work all day maybe give it time and see what happens, my friend had a dog recently which they thought he was going to pass 4 times over and was in a lot of pain and they were really considering putting him to sleep but all it took was a change in medication and he has bounced back dramatically and is healthy as an (old) ox lol! So you never know what will happen! Have you possibly considered giving her to someone else who is at home more often for her to live out the rest of her days? P.S what an amazing life, 20+ years old that is phenomenal - you must be a very good mummy :) Sending hugs your way :(

Unfortunately girls the best British schools here are extremely hard to get into especially mid-term, they probably already have a waiting list up to their eye-balls for current Dubai residents. The only thing i can suggest is to wait it out in the UK until the new school year in September and see if you can get on the 2013/2014 waiting list. But be aware, to put your name on a waiting list there will be a non-refundable fee which can be up to almost AED 1000. Aside from that, if you are ok with an international school, i think Gems Wellington is quite easy to get into, a friend of mine was in a similar situation and had to get her LO in a school mid-term but she is from oz and had no issue with her LO in an intl school, i know us English def prefer British schools. I wish you the best of luck, maybe you can do some hunting, here is a list of some of the best British schools in Dubai: Jebel Ali Primary School English College Primary School JESS DESS JPS Primary Also Horizon School & Safa School are ok :) Safa may be an English Curriculum school but there are 40 nationalities of pupils !! I don't know if you listed it together with Horizon to imply they are affiliated but they aren't any more.... no no i just remembered the both of them just before i posted so quickly added them on the bottom lol!

@Pikachu...are you English? The poster did not ask for a school with only British/English pupils she asked for an English Curriculum school. The line in your sentence sounds as if you are averse to having many nationalities in a school...I don't want to Judge, incase that's not what you meant..but in case you haven't noticed, the world is FAST becoming a global village... No no that's not what i meant in the slightest, i meant that it seemed as though she was specifically looking for a British Curriculum school, as the international school curriculum is slightly different. I'm sorry you took that the wrong way, when i was putting my son in school i wanted a British Curriculum but made sure that the school had a good international base of different nationalities, we live in a mulit-cultural/national environment and i want my son to experience all of that. Sorry i wasnt clear and sounded like i was saying something otherwise!

If you are married then no they dont need to provide anything, if you are divorced or widowed and you are the sole provider for your children then some companies do provide. Generally no though, single women get a flight hope and medical though.

Just a quick one for all you trusted girls out there, after being in dubai for 6 yrs ive decided to set up a first aid training company as its something i think is very much needed, what i wanted to ask was your thoughts and comments on where you think i should target and advertise, and which areas could benifit most from us. We are a uk accredited company aswell as HAAD approved and at the moment a very small but dedicated company, whos main goal is to help change the mindset on how first aid is taught and precieved. I dont want to use this post to promote the company, i would just like to know peoples thoughts and ideas on the subject! Thanks for having a read, looking forward to see your suggestions. Jessica Fab idea! With all the new ministry of ed laws getting stricter, i am sure school staff and nursery staff would great clients of yours for pediatric first aid training, you could even do some for maids/nannies. Good luck :)

Sounds like a pretty pointless place to go to. I couldnt agree more, just looks like a bunch of tack to me, i would go to Safa park any day over visiting a kaleidoscope of mishmashed colours of flowers. Looking at the photo's made me dizzy! Could you clarify? I think i might have misunderstood your post. All courier services require you to fill out an AWB but it isnt usually enclosed in the envelope, it is given to the courier service and you can pay cash upon collection of the package for sending. Sorry if i misunderstood what you meant? Anyway good services which courier to the USA are: Aramex DHL FEDEX UPS Or are you looking for registered mail? That would be Emirates Post..

At 18 months they learn all they need to know through play. Buy lots of crayons and paper, chalks and a blackboard, lots of paint and brushes, playdough, glue and glitter etc take them to the pool with lots of buckets and watering cans and squirty toys, take them to the playground and push them on a swing until they laugh so much you get the giggles wth them and just have tons of fun wth them! Kids go to school so early now - what's wrong with having fun, running and jumping and climbing and just being a little happy go lucky free spirit..... they just need lots of interacton - this is when they are learning to talk and chatter - let them focus on that before bringing in structured learning. I've kept loads of the pictures my 2 little ones did when they were tiny - I look at them from time to time and smile and chuckle at the memories of those carefree happy unstructured times. Getting up at O it's so early O'clock for school will come round so quickly - let them chill. I would love to have those years back again - no pressure to get homework done, no set tmes to be at any place, no answerng back - Oh you ladies are so lucky - I loved trying to understand all the babbling and felt so triumphant when I could understand the toddler incessant chat! Enjoy them while they are young and they need you - it goes past soooooo quickly. I couldnt agree more! Let children be children and have fun in the short childhood they have these days! Kids are pushed to grow up too fast in the modern day, it needs to be slowed down!! I think learning through play and arts and reading wonderful books are all they need in their first years, LO's are like sponges and learn through all different 'fun' activities at this age. Good luck in whatever you decide to do, you can get some wonderful books on art projects for toddlers at the childrens bookshop in the Meadows town center, im sure your LO will have a blast :)

I asked my friend in RERA, he only has to give you 3 months notice like any other rental property in Dubai unfortunately. Errrrr - I don't think so...... luckily for the tenant they are protected. If the landlord says he wishes to sell (he usually means I want to get you out and put others in at a much higher rent) then he has to give you 12 months notice from renewal of your contract - fact. If he says he wants to move in himself (another great scam) then he has to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that that is what he wants to do. If he doesn't move in and puts the property back onto the rental market for more rent then he will be fined and have to pay compensation to the tenant who has moved out which could equate to the equivalent of the years rent (never heard that anyone got that though!). Our Landlord tried both options. we filed a case at the rent commitee and won in 2 minutes. Our LL was told in no uncertain terms that we have to be allowed to stay in the property. He was told he should never have put the property on the long term rental market. He was also told when he said he needed to move in himself (yeah right!) that if he had a problem with his LL then he should file his own case against his own LL! thanks emlsnre - I so remember your stress and am glad that my experience helped you to stand firm and quote the law. Good luck OP - you should be fine unless the laws have changed dramatically in the last few months but we would all have read about that...... Yes sorry about that i was incorrect, this applies to Emiratis only....

Well the summer is the summer and if you are not used to it, it can be tough but unfortunately if your moving here you must get used to it at some point lol! With regards to childcare, there are a lot of nurseries here which run all year round apart from the weekends and regular public holidays so i am sure you will be fine on that side of things. Now the nanny issue is a whole different ball game, i am like you and would want someone qualified, unfortunately there are no rules or regulations on training nanny's to look after your children. People normally hire maids (which are house keepers) to take care of their children. Absolutely bizarre to me, i would never ever leave my child with an unqualified child minder, but people seem to think thats ok here. You may be able to find a UK qualified nanny but be prepared to pay an absolute fortune, you will be looking at at least AED 5000 per month MINIMUM! I would recommend a nursery, the ministry of ed is very strict here with staff at nurseries and they all have to have some form of early years training and pediatric first aid training. Also if you and your husband would like to go out for an evening there is a company that you can hire a professional (qualified) baby sitter for short stints. Hope that helps and wish you the best with the move, i know if can be extremely stressful, i cant even imagine with two little ones!! :)

I was under the impression that all employers Must provide Health Insurance by Law. And if they say it's included in the package, they still have to organise it. Well they have to provide you with a government health card in Dubai otherwise you cannot get a visa, maybe they consider that as medical. As i dont think the law is to provide employees with 'Private' medical, just any medical.

i would recommend AXA Medical they are fab. The first year you have to go down the reimbursement route but after being with them for 12 months you automatically change to direct billing. If you dont want to pay an arm and a leg they also have regional coverage also if you dont want to pay for global :) they have info on their packages on their website www.axa-gulf.com :)

Try MedNet or similar as they seem pretty reasonable. Use Nasco as a broker to get good rates. In the meantime you can pay AED300 and get the UAE Govt Medical Card at any government hospital, its will be valid for one year and is there in case of emergencies til you get sorted. Sorry I pop in like this, but can I take UAE Govt Medical Card and pay AED 300 even though I am not working and I am on a tourist visa? Because, all the companies from my country have offered me travel insurance that is way more expensive... No unfortunately you cant, you are only eligible for a government health card if you have a valid UAE residency visa.

I would be careful with this, there was a lovely one in Jumeirah after running for many years, the government shut it down and there is now a law that no hotels or anything of that sort can be run out of villas in the UAE (thats why there are many hotel apartments in barsha now) so unfortunately, though it is a wonderful idea, you will most likely not be able to get a license.
