I did loads of research on koh samui, both tongsai and four seasons look good for kids, though tongsai doesnt have a kids club, ended up looking more at villas as all the hotels ended up being super expensive, partic if you dont want to all share 1 room! If you have thenbudget, i would choose 4 seasons..

I'm sure you've done your research, but be aware that it can be VERY wet at that time of year, there is regular bad flooding in the north during rainy season

We are in a similar position, only solution that we found that was reliable was to hire our own driver

Oh Kristina, I am so sorry to hear your news, especially knowing how much work you do for them. As others have said, you were only doing what you thought was best, and you could never have predicted what would happen. I know that probably doesnt help, but please try not to beat yourself up about it.

chiang mai will be rainy season, and could get really wet (see flooding from last year). the best place to visit is on the East coast ie koh samui. it will be hot, but nothing like here, and you will have the advantage of all that lovely greenery....however it is peak season there, so flights will be filling up and accomodation expensive....Phuket will also be wet as its rainy season, but it is usually in short bursts of an hour or two, which can be nice living here! and you will get good deals at that time of year if you do go there, consider renting a villa, a good option with young children. enjoy!

be careful to differentiate in the service - maintenance companies will offer quarterly A/C cleaning, water tank cleaning etc. For the A/c, they will clean the filters and check gas levels etc. The other service people are talking about here is a full A/C clean and sanitisation - like someone like Saniverve do, which is more expensive. This is a full clean of the whole system, followed by a fogging. this takes longer and is more expensive. ideally you need to do both!

hi ladybird, congrats! just wanted to add my thoughts, as a working mum (also out of necessity!) i have 2 boys, 2 & 3, so close in age. We had the same debate you had, and ended up chosing nursery, as i would much rather my LO be with trained people, especially in first aid, in the event of something happening. we did also hire a helper, as if your LOs fall sick, then you are in a really tough position if you have to keep taking time off. I dont buy the 'if the go to nursery they'll always be ill' theory, mine did well, and have built up their immune system ahead of going to big school. if your child is going to fall ill, he can just as easily catch a bug in a mall, playgroup etc as at nursery the most important thing is to chose a nursery that will follow your routines, and is really an all year round nuresery, and has the ability to take them all day. what i did with both kids is supply my own travel cot, with bedding and sleeping bag for them to sleep in, so that i alsways knew they were sleeping properly, hence a nursery's sleep facilities are really important at a young age. i know the nursery in DFIC, my first went there for a while. good for small babies, but THE most expensive out there!! where do you live and work? we are in AR, i work in DIFC, and we have chosen to send ours to Blossom Village, because we felt that was the best option for our kids. definitely not the most convenient in terms of proximity, but the kids are happy there. another solution if you do hire a helper, is to put them in mornings only, then nip out to take them home in your lunchbreak, then they can have a good sleep/play/have tea with your helper at home. lots to think about, good luck!

i did mine with Belhasa in 2006...its quite easy, the theory is the same as cars, so if you can drive, that's simple. main thing they do is the test, figure of eight, and then a drive...enjoy. what are you going to get? i have a vespa , so easy, i sued to use it for work commute, and also have a harley for more fun :) enjoy and good luck!!

We just had it done on tuesday ( and i am so glad we did, house smells great and the report they sent me is shocking!) and we tipped them 200, they looked v happy with that. There were 8 guys, on and off, and they did a very thorough clean and tidy job.

hi, enasoso, who did you go with in the end? be prepared for a big mess in your garden, but so worth it!! for the actual pool tiles, we chose Ezzari glass mosaics, from MAK pools, gorgeous. for the surround, we have gone with concrete tiles (sounds werid, but it looks great, we were going for a very industrial/contemporary look) with some teak decking as well. if you want something more traditional, then yes sandstone is fine. trust me, ALL tiles and even decking will get hot at midday if in full sunlight!! we have an opening/closing sail shade that can keep the pool covered in the height of the summer and at midday... go and check all the tile places in Al Quoz, or ask him to bring you samples in the colour scheme you are thinking of.... exciting!

Hi victoria, lots of people including us have filled in their entrance halls in the 3 beds and converted them into a study, we have even built in a bond style bed that comes down from the wall in the formal living room so we can have guests! (we bought and now have 2 DS, but cant sell due to mortgage!!),. Lots of people in similar positions who have done lots of work on their saheels, ie outside rooms etc, so i think you would find a solutioin if you make it clear to the agent. Personally i think saheel is the best community, we love the big windows all over the house, and its so quick to get in and out of the ranches from saheel as well...

VictoriaM - we're in Saheel. There are small parks attached to the pools, but in Saheel there are lots of other parks, entrances are marked by red and white posts. We have 2 literally a stone's throw from our house, both of which have big grassy areas and seperate play areas, one is relatively small but the other is a good walk from one end to the other. I dont know about the other communities, except for al reem where they have a massive lake linking all the al reems together, which is great to walk or cycle around. re the walkways, you can pretty much do a circuit of the whole of the ranches on walkways, rather than going on the main roads, really nice to cycle on through trees etc... good luck with your search

nams_new, first of all your baby doesnt hate you. you are the most important person for him, and always will be. maybe he just wants to be put down to sleep by the time you finish ? if i can offer any advice, it would be to try and encourage your baby to settle himself to sleep, rather than you or anyone else having to assist him. i would finish his story, give him a cuddle and tell him its night night time, put him in his bed, lights off and leave. you may have some protesting for a day or too, but he will soon get the message and will learn to settle himself. there are various techniques you can use for this, do a search and you will find them, remember crying is his only form of communication, maybe he is just rebelling at being put to sleep!! try to relax and remember you need to be in charge, and that no way does he hate you! good luck, i'm sure you're doinggreat.

we went to the banyan tree in the seychelles at around 31wks for babymoon #1, and sri lanka at around the same time for babymoon #2 (although with DS1, so not quite the same!!) if you fancy going abroad, then consider your journey, as it is tiring. try to go somewhere with a reasonable flying time, and where the time to get to the hotel is relatively short on the other side. check the medical facilities where you are goign just in case, and also remember to get your doctor's letter. personally having done jordan pre kids, i would do it some other time, lots of walking and travelling by car, and next month it will be hot as well. Banyan tree and anantara options here are good, but for no more than 3ish nights max i would say, unless you combine the qasr al sarab and the other anatara on the island. zighy bay good but also i think would be a bit boring for more that 3ish nights. HTH, for what its worth! enjoy it!

Debsdebs, do you have lunch with her most days at 1762? i work in DIFC as well, my eldest DS used to go to hummingbird and I did the same thing! it makes me smile when i see you with her, brings back memories and makes me miss mine!! (if it is indeed you!! and not to sound like a stalker!!!) yep good to take her to the doc, hopefully she will have a mild case like my DS2, and other than the spots she will be fine. she will have to stay home though. good luck, hope she's ok. edited by JulesLC on 02/04/2012

my 2 DS are at BV, and generally (*touches wood*!) they are fine! they have both been at nursery since they were 6 months old though, so have built up fairly good immunity. it is normal when they start for them to pick up bugs, but my thoughts are best now rather than at big school! mine have a teaspoon of manuka honey almost every day

sounds like hand foot and mouth. DS2 had it a few weeks ago. wasnt overly bothered by it ie carried on as normal, but he was off nursery as it is highly contagious, and some children suffer badly with it. he did not go back until the blisters cleared.does she have any on her hands? can you see in her mouth? i would take her to the doc to be sure. which nursery is she at? mine is at blossom village, they needed a medical report in order for them to officially communicate it to other parents. HTH

Just spoke to emaar. they told me that this is an RTA decision, that they agree is not right, and that their project mgt team are trying to work with the RTA to come up with a solution, as they are well aware of the traffic in the mornings...lets see.

my 2 DS are at Blossom village (i personally prefer BV over B, although same mgt). they do french and arabic each week, have come home singing and counting in both languages.....when DS seems either teacher he comes out with Bonjour madame or marhaba, and both seem to love the language options. am annoyed that DS1 will lose this once he starts at big school!
