It depends what you have agreed. With my former nanny, we have agreed that she will take her holidays at the same time as us which means that she will go to her country twice a year. When we went on holidays, she refused to go as she didn't want to spend money there. We have agreed that it's okay, she can stay in our house, she will get full pay for her holidays, she doesn't need to work during that time but needs to clean after herself. She got the money for one ticket at the end of her contract. It worked well. Have you discussed the holidays at the time of hiring?

I think that you have a legal as well as a moral obligation to take her to the doctor. The symptoms you are describing sound very serious. I'm not in the medical field but I suspect she may have a spinal issue. It's really important that she sees a doctor and gets proper care as soon as possible. I don't think that sending her back home is a good idea unless you have a full picture of her health issues and know that this trip won't worsen her health.

Hi, Doctors tend to push for C-sections here. All women I know who had their first baby here had a C-Section. They may have just been unlucky but... Public hospitals should be fine. Good luck.

Hi Wife777, Sorry to read that about your daughter. Please check with your doctor if the pollution can worsen your daughter's health condition. Do you have to move to the UAE? If not necessary, I would advise that you stay in France as you have probably more experienced doctors there than here. Otherwise, it's not that far from here, and you can plan a trip there every holiday to check your daughter's health with her current doctors. You can also check with your doctors if they know any good doctor here they can recommend. Just a positive note: A cousin of mine had the same issue as your daughter at the same age, now almost 30 years later he is perfectly fine. Usually, the group insurance we have here through our employers cover pre-existing conditions; however you would need to check this with your employer. Also, you would need to check the total coverage as well as if there is any specific coverage for cancer treatments.

Hi, I have colleagues who are Syrian and who did not have any issue getting their visas. I understand that women can sponsor their husband and children if they hold certain positions or if they have a very high salary (there is also a minimum salary that you would need to have to be able to sponsor your family, you can check that on the DNRD website. I read that teachers are allowed to sponsor their husband and children. Personally, I know women who are sponsoring their husband and children but they all hold senior management positions. I suggest that you call DNRD, they are usually very helpful.

Hi Thanks for your messages. In fact, I have only 2 children, one who is 4 years who is at school almost the whole day and the other one is an infant. We are offering a very good package by Dubai standards (2500 per month plus accomodation and benefits). But we are Muslim, and they do not want to work for us because of that. Of course, I don't tell them about the package until I see they are interested in working for us.

Hi carambar, Mine left just after I delivered. I managed well until I went back to work. Don't worry too much about it. You hâve few months to find another one. If you know Arabic, there are lots of Indobesian maids who are willing to come and work hère. Otherwise, you CAN try to find one hère but it's not easy as they don't want to take care of babies. Good luck.

Hi, My husband and I are both working and we have 2 children including a baby. We have been looking for a maid/nanny for some time without much success. I'm thinking about not looking for one anymore as I'm fed up of their lack of professionalism (they agree to come for the interview and they do not show up etc.). Although I'm sure we can find a way to handle both our jobs and the children when the nursery and school are open, I'm not sure how we can manage during the holidays. Do you have any idea? I know that it will be tiring and difficult as both of us have demanding jobs but I want to try and see if this can work. We are both used to clean the house and cooking as we grew up in countries where people do not have maids. The only difference for us is that back home, we would have somebody who can pick up the children from school and take care of them until we come back from work, which I understand is not an option here. Instead, I would need to leave the office early and work late at night to catch-up. Thanks for your advice and tips. edited by KB75 on 02/01/2015

Hi, I have a very good friend who lives in Istambul so can respond to few questions. Worst thing about Istambul is the traffic. If you don't know Turkish, it is difficult to communicate with locals. With regards to schools, I've heard that you do not have much choice. If you are French, I've heard good things about the Lycee of Galatasaray. Last time I went to Istambul, i was told it was burnt: not sure if it's true and if yes, don't know if it was fixed. You can find easily part-time housemaids who come and clean your house on a part time basis. Good luck.

I recommend that you check with the Immigration. I'm sure that your maid can find a job very quickly if she takes the time to look for one. My former housemaid was not good at all. When her new employers asked us what we think about her; we told them that she doesn't have a good attitude and that if you do not check what she is doing, she will not work but they were happy to hire her. So, I think that yours has good chances to find a job too. People are so desperate to find one that they are ready to accept any person. Take the decision that is the most convenient for you and your family but you would need to get everything sorted before you leave the country so that you can get back your deposit. Once you leave the country it becomes difficult. Good luck.

Hi, I am 20 weeks pregnant and need to find a gynecologist and a good hospital where to deliver. My insurance doesn t fully cover for American Hospital and City Hospital. I have the choice inter alia between these hospitals Welcare, Canadian Specialist, Lifeline Jebel Ali and Saudi German. I would like to be with a doctor and a hospital that encourage natural births and do not overmedicalize. Which one do you recommend? Thanks.

I think Gorobattie is right with regards to the remuneration there. I am with WT. this maid is taking you for a ride, 2k USD is way above any one in Israel, a tiny online research shows that 2kUSD equal almost 7k Sheqal, that average jew family will be earning what 14,157.(USD $3,795) per month, and an arab Israeli family will be earning 8,151 (USD $2,185) per month. don't believe me have a look at this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_of_living_in_Israel#Housing I don't think there is someone is going to accommodate her demanded salary in Israel.... so I will follow Whistling Trees advice to re home the stray cat after the maid leave... edited by Gorobattie on 13/12/2013 edited by Gorobattie on 13/12/2013 edited by KB75 on 13/12/2013

I have heard of expo before and am looking forward to the possibility of a [b'>[/b'>Dubai winning this bid. Yes, Dubai is already a great city and well known, and this brings the opportunity to promote expo a swell as enhancing what a Dubai already has to offer. I hope that it does increase rents and property prices, many landlords and business owners have been waiting a long time to be able to make the kinds of money that Dubai is famous for. It will also squeeze a lot of the mid-class residents out, which has become a too large sector. Winning this bid will give a dubai the opportunity to redeem itself after the bad fall a few years ago. If the middle class leaves, you will have nobody to rent to. Anyway, companies will not pay the housing allowances they used to pay. If they can t keep their middle class employees, I think they will just decide to move elsewhere. Good luck then for any landlord who wants to find tenants.

I think she should spend christmas with her mother as she doesn t see her mother during the year. The fact that you are paying for her flight, education is irrelevant because you are the ones who moved abroad not her mother. I also suspect that her mother does not earn as much as your husband, so maybe she can t even help. It is weird that she accepted that her daughter moves here, if I were her I wouldn t. However, I don t know her personal circumstances and maybe she thought it was better for her to live with her husband for different reasons. This is also irrelevant here. I also suspect that her daughter wants to spend Christmas with her, otherwise she would have told you clearly that she doesn't t want to.

Hi Bella - congrats on your other thread for finding out it is a girl, they are so sweet and you will adore the mother-daughter bond. I do hope she is OK, just to set your mind at ease, I know plenty of people who have had these sorts of minor scares during pregnancy, myself included which have turned out to be completely benign (in our case, baby measured small and after Googling all night I was convinced she had all sorts of diseases - she didn't!) I have been to both FMC and Nine clinic and preferred the Nine clinic - Dr George is lovely and reassuring and did my growth scan to confirm baby was OK. Virtually next door to the FMC in Healthcare city. Good luck x Hi bella, I second that. What I like with him is that he will not try to scare you just to have you go through expensive exam. He is thorough and reassuring. edited by KB75 on 20/11/2013 edited by KB75 on 20/11/2013

If I were you, I would not prevent my daughter from playing with this girl. I will just ensure that I m always around when they are playing together. This girl needs obviously help and I don't think that ostracizing her will help her. I would have a serious discussion with the mother and if I feel that there is anything wrong with her behavior, I would involve the police.

Hi SidneyGal, I personnaly prefer Family & Friends. Unlike few other nurseries, I found the personnel there down-to-earth. The personnel of Family & Friends is also very good with the children. It is relatively small and the teachers know all the children. You can call them at any time; they're always reponsive. My child is attending Family & Friends and is very happy there; the other children seem to be very happy there too. It's just a pity that they do no have an outdoor facilty. However; if he stays there only in the morning, then I don't see it as an issue as he can go to the park in the afternoon. They are also very flexible in terms of timing and helped a lot when my child's nanny had to leave without notice. Good luck. edited by KB75 on 09/06/2013

Certain freezones require that all employees based in the freezone be sponsored by their employees. I ve heard this is the case for example for DIFC.

I think you're in a free zone in which case the legislation will be slightly different but with a limited period contract (which I believe you have as you say it is 3 years?) you're ordinarily entitled to up to 3 months salary as compensation for arbitary dismissal ie a reason not relating to your work/performance. Also - you say immediate effect does that mean they've not given you notice? You're entitled to minimum 30 days. Forgive me if this is impolite but as a senior HR professional shouldnt you be familiar with the relevant employment legislation? Perhaps the freezone is very different and I'm just being ignorant.. I believe kates01 is correct regarding the 3 month salary compensation but you would need to check whether this applies to employees based in jafza

Dr George (long Greek surname) at Nine Medical Centre in Healthcare City is the bomb! He's a Foetal Medicine Specialist, he managed to predict gender of our LO @ 12 weeks & he has such a lovely bedside manner. Also they claimed direct from our insurance company, which is nice.. I fully agree, he is excellent. I saw him when he was at the American hospital.

Hi Nippy, I feel very sad for you and your children. I hope this is a blessing in disguise and you will be much happier soon. At least now you are in your own country where you know better the rules and thus can fight better. Good luck. I think that any woman who raises her children should ensure that she has her own bank account with enough savings in case. My mother is a housewife and my father has always ensured that she owns half of all his belongings. He used to say that he doesn't trust anybody including himself and that's the reason he has done this.

Why don t they seize and sell the property of the landlords. I m sure that they would not even need to sell them the simple threat of selling them will be sufficient to convince them to pay. This is what I be noticed back home. Also, there must be a law prohibiting the year advance payment. Also good agents ensure that the tenants are informed in the event the landlord hasn t paid the fees. The first time we rented here, our agent did this.

I met / interviewed a maid recently who was accustomed to a v high salary (3k?!!) plus as part of the 'package' 3 months salary as a bonus at the end of the contract.............. oh right - see you later! GULP Don't believe her. Check first with their employer. She's allowed to one-month salary only in the event she chooses not to take her holidays or if you terminate early her contract. That's all.

Horrible situation and all i can think of is "Before criticizing a man, walk a mile in his shoes". I have to feel that morally to take a years rent and not pay a dime back when a tenant gives notice is for me morally wrong. Completely agree, I feel very sorry for this guy. If I were the OP, I would investigate and if I discover he was fired, I will give him back 9 months rent. If he left his job, then I would apply the law, and give him 6 months rent. Or you can decide to apply the law and give him back 6 months rent in any case. For the bills, ask him to provide you with the documents according to which he paid all the his accomodation related bills. edited by KB75 on 21/09/2011
