Thanks, I've also said to dh that he should stick it out for now and look out for another job. The new RM worked for the company a few years ago and he's based in Qatar so I think the company is hoping he can win a lot of new projects. If he has worked for the company before, maybe your DH can try to have some information about him, to check if he likes controlling everybody or only your DH.

I bought the Seb actifry 5 years ago and I really like it. The taste of the French fries is better and the fries are healthier. You really need only one spoon to fry them. After 5 years, and a travel to Dubai, it's still working. Fpr homemade fries, it takes 30 minutes to cook them.

Hi Sara, as I am in a similar situation as your friend, I was wondering how this has developed? I will possibly go to Europe to marry my fiance but am afraid as we are of mixed religion that the marriage will not be valid in Dubai and thus I won't obtain my residency permit under his sponsorship? Any information would be very helpful!! I know one muslim lady married to a christian guy while they were residents here and have children here and their marriage is considered as valid by the UAE authorities.

Sorry for your son. Maybe, you can organize a very nice week-end with all your family for his birthday. If I were you, I will not speak about that with the guests who didn't come, if they're so insensitive, they will not understand your son's pain.

It's better to explain them what you want them to do. For example, I only ask them to mop and to clean the bathrooms. If you want them to do everything, tell them. Check they're using hot water for mopping.

There is no one-month salary bonus. She's entitled to one-month salary during her one-month holidays plus a ticket back home if she completed her 12 months contract. She's not entitled to two month salary. But if you wish to do, you can. I understand from your post that she's going on holidays before she completed her 12 months. Was it your choice or hers? If it's hers, I would not give her a one-month salary but only a salary calculated pro rata temporis to the period she was working for you. For example, if her salary is of 2000 dirhams/month and she has worked only 8 months for you, I woulde give her 2000x8/12. Then, at the end of the 12 months, I would give her the remaining amount, i.e. 2000x4/12. If you choose to let her go now for holidays, then choose what is suitable for you. edited by KB75 on 19/05/2011

You have to pay for an adult place if you need to keep the car seat with you in the place. But if you prefer to pay only for an infant ticket, then you can send it as luggage. Be careful, our was a little bit damaged during the flight even if it was sent with the fragile items.

Since I need some help at home these days, I contacted several agencies to have information about their rates and availabilties. I used information provided in Expat Woman and contacted only agencies which are supposed to charge 25 dirhams/hour. I noticed that first they asked where I live and then they told me they're charging 35 dirhams/hour. When I ask them why they're asking first the location. They told me because they don't offer services for certain locations. When I told them that they can give me the price without knowing my location, they told me no it's necessary. I also noticed that one of my friends who lives in a nicer area (but still very close to mine) was charged 40 dirhams per hour by an agency which charged me 35 dirhams. Do you have another explanation?

When do you need it? Sorry for the hesitation, but while I DO have a wheelchair at home, I may need it myself and won't find out until next week if so. IF I'm all clear and won't need it, it's yours. One careful owner [but I'll need it to be returned!'>. :) Thank you very much. Let's keep in touch. I'm still interested in. edited by KB75 on 13/05/2011

Thanks a lot, I've been in their website and noticed that the rental price is of 351 per month. It's expensive compared to what I found on Dubizzle, where I can buy a wheelchair for 200 dirhams. I will contact them if I don't have any other option.

Sorry for that but you have to be careful when choosing your MBA and make sure you can really change your career. As you know, the market conditions are not good now and it's not easy to change from a career to another. One of my former colleagues back home did the Georgetown University MBA, which is a very well known MBA, and failed to change his career after his MBA. Since, it's a very big investment, it's a pity that he did not succed. So, I would advise you to prepare carefully your change of career. Maybe, you can contact recruitement agents, headhunters to speak with them about your wishes and try to have their feelings about that...

Hi, I met a maid for an interview whose grace period after the cancellation of her visa expires soon. What do you think is the best: going back to her country and apply for a visit visa, her husband is working here but doesn't earn the necessary amount to sponsor her for a residency visa, or pay the fees for extra stay (I don't know if it's possible?). If she has to get a visit visa, how much is it, how long it takes to get the visa done?

Just curious...why does a maid whose contract is governed by UAE law have to be paid a UK minimum if she is there with her employer? Because laws relating to minimum wages apply to all the territory, whether the contract of the employee is subject to the application of the UK law or of a foreign law. It also prevents employers from applying foreign laws to the employment contracts to avoid the application of the UK employment laws, including minimum wages, maximum hours rules...So if you"re working in the UK, then you're subject to the application of UK employment law.

Thanks a lot. Now, it's still very difficult for me to decide. So, I thnik that we will have two week-ends: one in the Cove Rotana and the other in Hitlton. I will let you know which one is better. Bella: I saw the Cobone offer, I think I will buy it also. I've never bought anything from Cobone; how does it work. Can you choose the dates when buying or you buy a voucher and then you contact the hotel to make a reservation?

I don't know if your sofa cover is removable but if it is, you could try the cobblers in Satwa. They work in Leather and have repaired a leather jacket for me. Unfortunately, it's not removable. She was eating the same meals than us. We were spending around 700 dirhams per week for groceries. So, we were spending around 900 dirhams per month for groceries for her But I heard that persons who are providing a food allowance give around 300 dirhams per month, which I think is not a lot. But it depends on the eating habits of your maid.

You're welcome. When we cancelled our maid's visa, my husband went himself to the immigration office and had to show his passport to confirm he was the sponsor. You can check by calling the immigration office at the following number: 8005111. They're very helpful. You have to know that even if you cancel her visa, she's still under your responsibility until she leaves the country or finds another sponsor. It means that if for example, after you cancelled her visa, she decides to work part-time, you can be fined up to 50,000 dirhams. edited by KB75 on 04/05/2011

Hi, I think it's not a good idea to create such list. Given my very short experience with a live-in maid, I understood something: before deciding to hire a maid, I decided to call her first, and asking her all the relevant questions regarding her experience, but also regarding her current salary, the number of days-off she has, the working hours , then I call her former employers and ask them the same questions. If the answers are the same, then it's a good thing. If I am interested, I call her for an interview. If the answers are different, then I don't call her for an interview. In any case, I decided not changing a lot her package. For example, if with her former employer, she has one day-off, then I will give her one day-off. If she's paid 1,200 dirhams, I will pay her 1,400 dirhams...I will not pay her 2,500 to 3,000 dirhams. If the difference is huge between what she was offered by her former employer and you, she will think you're just stupid and she can do whatever she wants with you. edited by KB75 on 02/05/2011

FMC is not the only place you can go for NT scan. I strongly recommend dr George from American Hospital for the 12 week scan and the 20 week scan. He is a fetal specialist with the same training as dr Mirza from FMC and he is amazing. He is actually the nicest doctor I have ever met in my entire life. I had very bad experiences in FMC eventhough I was about to take a whole maternity package over there. I recommended dr George to all my friends and they all love him. Same here. I've been also to FMC one time and with Dr. George one time too so I can compare. Dr. George is much better. He's very qualified, professional, nice...In fact, he's the best doctor I saw in Dubai during my pregnancy.

There are the maids with their own visa, Aren't "Maids with their own visa" actually illegal maids? I thought maids were not able to have their own visa Yes, it is that's why I'm not happy with that, they just make me loose my time. I don't want to hire a maid with her own visa.

Unfortunately, I don't have the choice. I'am chasing them for several days now without success. I'm sorry but I still find this is unprofessional (I don't speak about all the agencies but only 2 of them). Maybe because I'm new in Dubai? Im' not used to chase service providers. ummm maybe you shouldnt get a maid then.... My friend got one through Explorer and she had to chase them about ....the agencies are not gonna chase you thats the way they are they over here...Also they need to make money they are not going to pay them a higher wage because they want to be nice lol they are a business. Howdra also supplies maids, the people i know are both happy with the service perhaps they have just been lucky and had a good maid to start with.

Of course, it's my choice and to be honest, I also think it's not good to have a maid look after children but nurseries do not accept young babies full-time and I want to find a qualified nanny but it's not easy. I found a very good one but unfortunately she cannot be sponsored here because she's not from one of the countries which can provide maids/nannies. KB75, it was only a suggestion just because it doesn't suit you doesn't mean it won't be good for someone else. Not everyone wants a housemaid to look after kids. It's their CV and its your choice whether you want to interview them. If you look at the classified section most of the maids/nannies there actually specify that they only want to work for western families. This is Dubai people put down what they want. When I was interviewing before I wish I had sight of their CV that way it would have saved me alot of wasted time with certain people.

My husband really wants to go through an agency who will sponsor the maid. I contacted them but I met 2 problems: (i) you pay them 2,500 dirhams and the maid receives only 750 dirhams, I don't like this idea, or (ii) they are not professional and don't send the necessary information. So, I'm afraid that if they're not professional now, they will be worse after we sign the contract and will not assist us in case we have any problem with the maid. Hahaha these maids think we are bliming thick if we belive all this...they end up interviewing u to see if u are suitable for them lol Go with what anon says if u dont want agency sponsor one ureself through an agency...Good Luck ladies....I gave up after my maid broke the law, and relised it was too stressfull having a maid... edited by KB75 on 26/04/2011

Have you tried www.backtobasicsuae.com. Maids load their CV's on there and some even have the odd picture. Personally if mine left now I would only take one who had never worked in Dubai before. I saw their CVs, almost all of them are asking to be paid between 2,000 and 3,000 dirhams. Several don't want to take care of children. A lot want to live in a villa. Almost all of them want to work only for western families.

I've never heard of a person paying his maid 4,000 dirhams. I've heard only 2,500 dirhams plus bonuses. 4,000 dirhams for a live-out (so you don't provide accomodation, food, ...) for a qualified nurse seems to be a good salary. It's not far from what you pay for your maid whe you provide her a salary of 1,500 dirhams, plus accomodation, plus food, plus toiletries...

Does anyone have good interview questions? Good idea, I would be also interested. I have the same problem than you, it's really difficult to find the good person. There are the maids with their own visa, those who are looking for a part-time job, those who ask first from which country or religion you are, those who cannot provide any reference but want a villa and 2,500 dirhams per month, plus food plus accomodation, plus toiletries, those who are saying their employers really like them, and when you call rheir employers you have another story...

If you're not confortable with the c-section, just refuse. She can't oblige you to accept, it's your body and your baby. I don't understand these doctors who decide early in the pregnancy that they will practice c-section. Maybe, you can check how many c-sections are done in this hospital and compare with other hospitals. In my country, there are official statistics and if you analyze these statistics, you can notice that c-sections are mostly practiced in private hospitals whereas public hospitals are usually in charge of risky pregnancies. The explanation: money, money and money. hey everyone. im also seeing dr aziz, met her for the 1st time last week...im 30weeks pregnant with identical twins...shes ok i think, seems to know her stuff and has a lot of experience from the way she talks...and apparently she used to work in the same hospital in the uk were my previous 2 childern where born..and infact even i was born!!! lol... but i have slight concern coz im expecting twins she sounds more certain that i will require a C-section coz in my case there identical and share a placenta so its high risk for me...but ive read up on many other women having there twins through normal birth...at around 36weeks...she says that its likely they will give me a c-section and set a date for me around 34-35 weeks...i hope this isnt just a money making sceam... ...dosnt anyone have experience with her so far???
