DD also had a heat rash that was pretty bad around that time. It went away on its own. However, I would go see a doc anyway. WHere are you located? I can give you nos of docs in Bur Dubai if you are nearby.

I know Baker and SPice is going to be at Al Manzil. I dunno about the veggie guys tho. I really do hope they come. My MIL spoke to one of them and they said they would be there but I am unsure whether inside or outside.

DD was also very constipated (esp after we introduced carrot), we gave her prunes, etc, etc and finally what helped was WARNING THIS COULD BE TMI my MIL sat down on the floor, legs in front of her slighting apart with newspaper below her, put DD astride (one leg over each leg) and that gave DD pressure to poop. Poor thing could not push it out without the sitting position. That also helped us get her used to pooping like that and now she rarely poops in her nappies (unless ofcourse we are out in which case mom goes through nappy changing H E L L)

Hiya. Just to put your mind at ease. DD was born 9 weeks early and we have ALWAYS worried about milestones and development. She started turning both sides on her own at 7 months actual (4.5 adjusted), started sitting up on her own at 11 months actual (8.5 months adjusted), started army crawling at 10 months actual and proper crawling after 12 months actual and pulling up and cruising very unsteadily at 13 months actual. She is extremely vocal and only recently said her first word (APPLE.... where the heck is mama?). We always ask her paed if she needs physio or EI and she says No. Everytime I worry she wont do something, two weeks later she is doing it. Oh and she is cutting her first tooth just about now (14 months actual and 11.5 adjusted... at least I did not get bitten while bfing). With regards to milestones, believe it or not there is a + or - 3 months range for each milestone! We mums worry about everything. Dont worry, BUT if you do not see progress and mum's instinct is telling you to check thing out, go and do it. Your son sounds like he is doing fine.

Lightweight is the bugaboo bee.Although it does not go TOTALLY flat, it does go almost completely flat. What I love about it is that can also be forward and rear facing. We have taken it onto flights with us and it has done great.

Having the same issue with DD. Waking up for her morning bottle at 5.30 instead of 6.30 and out of bed at 7.30 instead of 8.30. Couple that with constant advice and comments from MIL and I am going to check myself into a hotel away from them for a few nights.

0.5% of the property value (you submit you contract/ title deed to DEWA to get your connection) for the entire year. So if you divide by 12 you get charged monthly. I was told this by DEWA (needed to liaise with them for a work thing on the housing fees), but I have to tell you that the application is not consistent and sometimes ppl get higher and lower rates. Its very odd

My Fav: Heat some olive oil, chuck in a little crushed garlic and let it brown a bit. Add a can of whole peeled plum tomatoes with the juice and smash em up. Add in chopped basil and salt and pepper to taste. When the mixture comes to bubbling and smells cooked, take it off the gas, put in a block of goats cheese and shove in the oven at high temp. The cheese should start to melt, but hold its shape in the tomato mixture. Serve with tiny toast or toasted pita chips.

I fully support the farmers market. I do hope the more popular it gets, the more products we will see. I went there this morning (second time) and spent a fair but (but will last me a couple of weeks), I got (organic): Aubergines, Spinach (made it for lunch and it was creamy and yummy and not metallic), Tomatoes, Red and purple pepper, Parsley, Cilantro, strawberries, Basil, Thyme, carrots, Zucchini, Eggs, chillies, rocket, lettuce, celery (and probably some more). The only complaint I had is there was no Broccoli (I think its too hot to grow right now). I am so happy about it. However, they told me it was the last one because its getting hot outside.

@Crystil: I hope I am never a MIL like mine. While she is a nice human being, her level of insecurity is just unreal (read going through my things, stealing my cupboard keys, breaking into my cupboard, never asks to borrow my things- just tells me to give them to her, changes my instructions to my maid, nags nags nags and thinks everyone else is stupid and she knows what is best for DD to the extent that my maid cant stand talking to her anymore). After going through this rubbish, I will do my best to ensure I am a hands off MIL. @Fretty: your hormones ensure you have loads of milk for the first 6 weeks (or so I have read). Maybe your baby just went through a growth spurt and your body needs a few days to adjust. Just say "we'll see" and do what you want.

My fav is this easy one for Hainanese Chicken rice (its the easy version from what I gather). 1. Add a spring onion and chunks of ginger to water in a put and bring it up to simmer 2. Put into a whole chicken cavity 1 spring onion, ginger and garlic. Rub chicken with some dark soya sauce and salt if you want more 3. Put chicken into the water (if should cover the top of the chicken) breast side down and simmer 4. Turn chicken over after 20 min and simmer for another 20-25 mins (depending on the size of your chicken) Make sure water is just simmering and not boiling. You can skim off the fat and chuck it or use to to make some simple fried rice. Once the chicken is done, remove it from the hot water and IMMEDIATELY plunge it into an ice cold bath (this is a critical step). I think this makes the meat more dense or something, it just turns out yummy. Once it is cooled, take it out of the ice bath, hack it up and eat with your fried rice and some chilli sauce.

I emphatize and sympathize. My MIL is here right now and I could just ************** (fill in the blank). Just ignore it and do what you want to. I do and though it kills me, confronting her wont change her mind. Frankly, if you ask me that generation has no respect for the medical profession and think they know EVERYTHING about everything esp raising children.

I love the UK format (unless its changed to the same format of the Oz and US shows). I actually dont like the Oz and US versions. Not enough focus on the food (only one dish?) too many contestants. Too much like any other reality show. The US version has Gordon Ramsay as a judge and that in itself is a put off for me. I was completely addicted to the UK version (more focus on the food, the process and the contestants are really put through some cool challenges).

DD is 13 months old and the thought of trying for another is slowly taking hold in my mind. I have been advised to wait until the end of this year. I really really want a full term pregnancy!!! Feel cheated that the last one ended as it did (got the most awesome kid out of it though!) My husband is not a 100% convinced he wants another (DD not sleeping through the night yet might have something to do with it) edited by kcinthecity on 30/03/2011

Thank you for the wonderful post Sandy. I just finished a lunch episode where DD refused to eat and so I let her just play with her rice (she tried stuffing it into her mouth but none of it went in), we spent the afternoon cleaning the kitchen floor which was under a layer of rice and then she just downed 5 oz and am praying she naps soon I can lie down too!

Its not just bikinis. Just look at some of the clothes they have on sale for little girls. Its just ridiculous. DD got a one shoulder pink top (tight as heck) for her 1st birthday and DH and I were just disgusted by it. The clothes I see young girls wearing (think 7-12 ) are just ridiculous - tight tight tight, flashing their mid riffs, off shoulder, insanely short skirts, trashy black outfits with studs on them! Aside from the terrible language of the message, I really dont understand how this is blackmail (maybe I am not seeing something here). Kid has been through a terrible ordeal (not judging whether it is true or not), suspects on trial (not the school, or is the school on trial here), mother says girl is suffering from not going to school (parents might have been happy with the environment at school and the education, child has to go to school cant just stay at home all her life), mother afraid to leave her little girl alone (I did not want to let DD out of my sight when I read the story, many Indian women study to become teachers) and suggest that she work at school to be near her child also says she she will not worry if she cant be there. How is this blackmail again? for a job? Seriously ruin her child's life and the life of 3 men to get a low paying teacher's job? I am not trying to be combative but I fail to understand why this is blackmail.

Sorry but the porblem is your husband, you can't ask a maid to look after your kids and raise them for you just because your DH doesn't appreciate the work and the effort you put in. At the end of the day, you are the mother of the children and you have the right to raise them no matter what he thinks... Kids need their mother and not a foreign maid even more if you do not need the money of a job. Live your dream. god burnsie, what ever you do don't listen to the above advice...no mum needs extra added guilt with sprinkles on top. Giving up work (way back when) was one of the most difficult things I did. So hard to get used to. We see our value through our work so often and when all of a sudden we're not in it, we fail to see the value ourselves of what we do and who we are. Add in the sudden one income, I havent earned it palaver, and the husband reverting to caveman mentality and you have a struggle on your hands. My husband still, 6 years on has to be pulled up short....this thankless (and it is thankless...our reward is sensible grown up children at some point apparently) job of ours is not a walk in the park...it is hard yakka and never finished. If you really feel that you would be a better mum if you worked outside of the home then you need to give yourself permission to so. Not all mums are cut out to be mumsy at home, I'm not and I know it. If something gives you fulfillment outside of the home of course it is going to enrich your life and add value to your childrens purely because they will have a fulfilled and happy mum. Good luck and best wishes for whatever you decide to do. LIKE a million times. Aroha's post is spot on.

I second RosyPosy's idea. I bought the Fisher price bath at Mothercare (comes with a stand and a net for the baby to lie on) and it made things so much easier. The net was wide enough to hold her and she was suspended above the water. For the first few days, I sponged her while she was lying on the net and as I got confident, I started putting warm water over her very slowly. Once your baby outgrows the net and has head control, you can seat the baby in the bath tub (there is a small seating area at a recline) for the bath. Dont be scared. :) edited by kcinthecity on 24/03/2011

Loved the zoo part of it. V. exciting to see the big cats. They had so many lovely animals. The food part is very badly organized. Please take something with you or be prepared to sit in a makeshift area to eat fast food. There are NO vegetarian options (or they were finished by the time we got there) Signs to the zoo are few and far between so take a map or your trusty GPS! (We spent quite a while looking for it with an irritable 12 month old in the back!) Avoid going at peak sun times. It is quite hot in the afternoons. Aside from that, DD LOVED looking at the monkeys! They have a lot of them.

Thought the original post was quite toungue in cheek but exposed an underlying bitterness. I might not agree with some of her views but those are her views based on her experiences. Its not the same for everyone. Perhaps the OP is leaving on a low note. We all go through phases when everything looks bleak! Honestly, I could have written this post last year, but since I quit work, I am really enjoying Dubai (had the year from **** last year). I also LOVED Dubai when I loved my job (think 2006 to 2009). We are probably moving home this year to try our luck at starting something that has potential. Initially I was so happy about the move (because life was miserable here) but now I am very ambivalent about it. Good Luck Mamaballs. I moving home makes you much happier than when you were here.

I just quit to be a SAHM. I do have a maid (who is a god send as DD is a hyperactive child who needs a LOT of attention all the time!). By 7 pm I am exhausted completely from doing all DD related work and groceries, bill payments, appointments (oh yes, apparently I double as the PA), giving the squirmiest child in the world a bath, organizing and cooking dinner, ensuring laundry is properly sorted, closing all closets and drawers that DH has opened in order to get out 1 shirt 1 trouser 1 pair of undies 1 pair of socks, picking up his MESS (MIL never kept a neat house). DH comes home in the evening and is irritable. I ask why "because I have to work and you get to sit at home all day and play with DD" Really? ok, lets swap places then. Then wants to know which friends I have planned activities with in the evenings and why do I look so tired and dishevelled (I dont get time in my day to make PHONE CALLS!) I might be responsible for homicide soon. Grrrrrrrrrrr
