Ahh that explains why a facebook friend just posted this... The BBC News channel just displayed images of the three women who claimed that Jimmy Savile interfered with them sexually. They showed a current picture of each of the women and a picture taken of each of them from the 1970s. The caption read: Now, then. Now, then. Now, then I know one shouldn't laugh given the nature of the subject, but couldn't help myself, that is funny - sorry

Time Out Dubai lists evening buffets & brunches, as well as loads of restaurant daily deals, friday brunches, saturday brunches, happy-hours, ladies nights, club-nights, events etc, happening in Dubai every week. Always 8 dizz dozz's well spent for me on a weekly basis. edited by Kezzler on 27/09/2012

I use one at work to drown at the terribly annoying communal office noise. That being said, I can't see a damn thing, so frequently make mistakes, especially when attempting to move about, but, being padded, I suffer minimal damage to the head and wear knee, shin and elbow pads too........:) Love your sense of humor! :D Someone's got to I suppose, if you throw enough mud, some of it's got to stick ;)

I recently travelled to Afghanistan on business, I flew straight into Camp Bastion and security is very high and I felt very safe. I would say it really depends on where in Afghan your DH is going, my boss would not allow me to go to Kandahar as this has more attacks, however, I would say that you're more likely to be badly hurt on SZR than you are going to Afghan. HTH.

"Minutes" in most malls (MOE, Ibn, Dubai, MCC, DCC etc). I have heard about a very good bespoke cobbler as well, albeit haven't tried myself and can't for the life in me think of the name, but I'm sure other ladies on here may be able to help with that one. Minutes provide the usual heel and sole service, a little like Timpson's in the UK. HTH

I'm sure you've all heard of 'Chinese Whispers'. I like to abide by the law and would just like to know what the 'Law' say's in writing rather than rely on someone else's perspective and what they've heard or read in the paper. Common sense really!! Whilst I don't usually get involved in these debates, I'm curious to know why you would ask on a public forum, if you don't want to 'rely on someone else's perspective'. If it is the exact letter of the law you are asking for, the only way you can get this is to go directly to the Ministry and hear it from the horses mouth so to speak. JS like.

Excellent! Thats what i was hoping! :) Royal Mail takes 2-3 weeks Yes it can be a luck of the draw, I've had a couple of orders that only took a week, but received my latest last week, nearly 4 weeks after order, I know it arrived in the UAE only 2 days after the order was placed, but what little trip it went on for nearly 3 weeks whilst it was here, I have no idea. However, it did arrive in the end, so if you do order and the retailer ships using Royal Mail, make sure you give yourself plenty of time.

I have medication sent to Dubai from the UK, I order from a website called pharmadoctor dot co dot uk. They send Royal Mail registered and are usually checked by customs (well, every time my package arrives, it has tape saying it has been opened and checked), as long as it is not restricted, banned or illegal :\: it should be fine. For a friends 50th recently, instead of buying the usual type of gift, I put together a book of all events that happened in the year she was born - Films, TV shows, Number 1's/famous songs, famous people born in the same year, major or notable events. I bought a pretty scrap book then pasted pictures on the inside with a little explanation, and a pic of the birthday girl herself on the front and inside called it "That was the year that was", name of said person and "unleashed into the World". I thought it was a little more personal and didn't take too long to do. Just a thought and hth. :)

I'm not sure if there are different rules for the US and UK, I'm a Brit and don't have a UK bank account anymore, only a local one here and I order loads of stuff from UK websites - netaporter, mrporter, moonpig, pharmadoctor, harrods, harveynichols - all on-line and have items delivered direct from those sites to either myself here or gift recipients in the UK. I thought as long as you had secure on-line banking and a proper debit card, you would be fine. That said, as it works for me, I am ignorant of issues with other types of card, but perhaps worth looking at the type of bank card you have. I hope that helps, but apologies if not.

I've been using Moonp** for the last 5 years I've lived here (in Dubai), in fact, I've just ordered my Dad's birthday card about 10 minutes ago, it's the only way I know I can make sure everyone in the UK will get a card from me. However, if you mean for delivery of cards in Dubai, then I don't believe there is, but perhaps Google will offer up a different answer. Sorry if it's the latter and so not much help :(

Same for me, the smell used to come through the bathroom and into the master bedroom, the neighbours had a penchant for partying with lots of friends over starting just as we were going to bed. Now I'm a smoker myself, however, don't smoke in the apartment and the smell from theirs would drive me insane, horrible, especially in the bedroom. It turns out there were big holes that hadn't been filled in, in between the apartments, so the building management came and fixed it. Since then, there's been no problem, hoorah. So, I suggest you get in touch with the building management to investigate and fix the problem. Ours tried to charge us for it, however, we pointed out that there shouldn't have been holes there in the first place, which they begrudgingly accepted.

I don't think you can write off a whole area based on the faults of some of the buildings and their management (or lack of). I have lived in JLT for 3 and a half years and whilst I have moved a couple of times, I have stayed in the same building - SABA 2. The facilities are excellent, the maintenance of common areas is very high, we've never had any issues with insects and nasty critters(albeit now I have just tempted fate), windows are cleaned regularly, rubbish goes down the chutes and is always cleared away (we never see any evidence certainly), we even have recycling facilities. As for our apartment, we're pretty lucky in that our landlord owns a few properties and has his own maintenance guys, so as soon as anything goes wrong, OH e-mails LL's PA and it is sorted immediately; just last thursday the microwave packed up (not that it is used very often) and the AC began leaking through the ceiling, by saturday we had a new mic and the AC was fixed. The only issue we have with JLT is the inane road layout which causes horrendous traffic, but I leave for work earlier than most people so it isn't such an issue for me. That being said, for people who leave for work from 8.00 onwards, it would be something you need to think about. If you find the right building, JLT is a great place to live, close to the Marina and beach, if you live on a high floor the views are cracking and there are more and more shops popping up if you've forgotten something in your 'big shop' :)

If it's just simple trouser shortening, the best answer would be 'Wundaweb', you simply iron on with a hot cloth and boom, trousers shortened with no sewing required .You can pick this stuff up in most supermarkets. However, if you definitely wish a tailor to do it, most dry cleaners offer this service and there are lots in JLT. Hope that helps. If it was me, yes. This is a single man, here alone, working all day. Not sure he'd even know what to do with it ETA didn't think about dry cleaners - thanks, that's probably the easiest solution. edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 26/07/2012 Ah yes, man = complete lack of ability when it comes to simple tasks :)

Not sure if they can do water damaged, but may be worth a try - Minutes. I've been putting off getting my Nokia fixed, (I dropped it and since then haven't been able to hear anyone who calls or I make calls to) as I couldn't be doing with the hassle of being charged what I thought would be the same price as buying a new phone (as it's out of warranty). However, I popped to Minutes in MOE yesterday and they took my phone, told me to come back in 20 mins and lo and behold, it was fixed and even better, they only charged me 20 dhs. I was very very pleasantly surprised I can tell you. Hope that helps and there are Minutes outlets in most Malls.

I have used DHL when sending contracts and deeds etc for the sale of my apartment in the UK. They were very good, if you go onto their UAE website, you will find their local number, they will come and pick up from you and you can pay cash to the courier (at the time my office was in DIP and they found it no problem). The documents arrived at the solicitors the following day on both occasions. I don't remember the exact cost, but it was about 200 or 300 dhs, certainly not a big amount for peace of mind. Unlike mich72, I have had nothing but good service, unusually for over here, so can't really comment on that.

Hi There I had augmentation (under the muscle) exactly 4 weeks ago, with Dr Imran Tahir whose office is based at the British Lasik clinic on Beach Road. The op was carried out at Medcare hospital near Safa park. I cannot recommend him highly enough and the aftercare has been second to none, I have had 3 post op follow up appointments since and my next one is in 2 months. The price was AED 28,000 and that covers everything pre, during and post op. I didn't have to wait on a long waiting list for an appointment either and he booked me in almost immediately. It was fairly painful, but it is more complicated and intrusive if they do under the muscle, so apparently this is pretty normal and I have to say, 4 weeks later and I am thrilled with my new twins :) You can google him and find the number for the British Lasik clinic very easily. Hope that helps

Is N Bar the same as N Style? If so then I agree...they aren't very good. I have used the one in DIFC and my nails are usually chipped within a day or so. I've now moved to Tips 7 Toes in Jumeirah Hi Suze63, No, they are 2 different companies, but to be honest, you've seen one, you've seen them all. I've also heard good things about Tips & Toes.

Hi Newby, Welcome and sorry to hear you're not settling in, can I just say it does take some time, I didn't like Dubai at all when I moved here (5 years ago), but now I would much rather be here than the UK. I was head-hunted and came here on my own without any family, it was lonely and hard at first, but eventually I met some good people and also my now fiance. As for the wedding advice, I can't help with that, but just to say, does your Arabic partner know how you feel and would he be willing to move and live in the UK? Good Luck with whatever happens, but try and stay optimistic, all places have their good and bad points, so try and look towards the positives.

Just a word of warning, a lot depends on the individual nail person, I've been to N Bar Grosvenor House quite a few times for a pedicure, unfortunately the last time I went (last weekend), the lady rushed, didn't do a very thorough job in terms of the hard skin buffing (yuck I know) and also cut my toe when she was doing my cuticles :( They also have a very limited choice on colours only using Essie products. I can thoroughly recommend La Sirene in the Al Fattan Towers JBR, but it can be a b**ger to park nearby.

Hi Xmasbaby, I've been in the same predicament, having been given these as the best type for me by specialist running store Pro Feet in London for my last marathon and having run the living daylights out of them, I tried the same search as you and came up with very little. I did actually go to Leader Sports and whilst they seemed to have the latest mens version, they didn't have decent ladies ones (I can't upsize to mens as I have small, narrow feet) and they tried to palm me off with a pair that looked as though they'd been languishing in their stock room for 15 years. No joy anywhere else, so I ended up switching to Saucony, which are OK, but not as good as the Wave Rider. So, if you find some, please do let me know :)

I would suggest avoiding spending too much time waiting around between your flights as there is absolutely nothing to do at CDG, the facilities are very poor. I've had to endure 5, 6, 8 and 10 hours between flights there and it's just the worst airport I think I've been to in terms of size - facility ratio. Good Luck whichever you choose.

In the numerous places I have lived in the last 5 years, the general principle has been 5% unfurnished, 10% furnished. However, there is no official rule governing the percentage value (as far as I'm aware), it's a usual case of like it or lump it. edited by Kezzler on 02/07/2012

Was there a couple of weeks ago for a pals birthday, personally I wouldn't recommend it, but everyone expects different things from a brunch, so here are my positives and negatives: Negs - Food was ok, but not brilliant, disappointing for the Armani; The starters are quite nice as you choose any of the salad deli options you like, however, there was only 1 person serving at the counter, so it took a living age to be seen (you can't help yourself). The next 2 courses are brought to the table, pasta, which was lukewarm and very bland and then the main course, grilled meats, fish and vegetables; akin to what you would get at a large catered awards or wedding in a middle of the road hotel, very uninspiring. Dessert selection is quite good. Atmosphere; very very quiet indeed, I think there were only 2 other tables in there (we were booked from 1 - 4) and it basically just didn't have an atomosphere. Pos's - Whilst the sittings are for 3 hours at a time, we were supposed to be done by 4, however, we didn't settle up until 6.30 and they didn't ask us to leave, kept topping up our glasses and didn't charge us extra for the additional 2 and a half hours of drinking we enjoyed. The P**k room. And they brought us huge platters of this sinful indulgence to our table ;-) As price goes, it is reasonable, but it does lack that bit of spark and fun you want from a brunch (and when I say fun I don't mean your Yalumba, Saffron, rowdiness, as they are really not my cup of tea). Enjoy wherever you end up going.

Minutes in MOE, Dubai Mall and Ibn Battuta all do this. If you have spare heel tips already (Louboutin & Gina provide a set with every pair of shoes), Minutes charge 15 dhs to put the new ones on, if you don't have spare heel tips, they charge 25 dhs for replacement and fitting of the heelp tip. This is based on stilletto heels though, if you need anything larger, they will probably charge more. HTH.
