Hi RRTNICU, My contact is also Olivia from Cavendish - she is very nice and helpful! Thank you dra! Bambii, How are you liking Doha so far? How did you move/send your staff? Did you used any particular company or? How was your experience going through immigration on the airport? I will be leaving NYC for Doha on November 9th and I have no idea where to start with packing and organizing everything. Does anyone knows if I will need to take a driving test if I have US driving license? What is a procedure for long term lease/rent a car? Do you need to have PR before you can lease a car?

Hi. My husband works in construction and I know that many jobs will never be advertised through these channels. You need to try researching as many of the international project management companies who operate in Qatar such as Atkins, Hill International etc. who will all have their own websites with positions advertised. Applying directly is always better and my understanding is that they are always searching for people with experience. Best of luck with the search. Hi goodytwoshoes, Thank you so much for your replay and advise. We figured this strategy is not working since he applied for more than 50 jobs and got no answer from anyone. He spend much time researching for companies but since there is over 400 of them in Qatar this is really time consuming. I would really appreciate if I can share my husbands resume with your husband if he knows of any openings with his or any other company, or even if he knows of recruiters or recruiting companies that knows about these internal jobs. My email is [email protected]. I really appreciate your help.

Thank you Fajer. He already applied for multiple jobs with Gulf Talent, however, we did not hear anything from anyone. We will definitely look through monster and Bayt.com Thanks again.

Hi Shaky2014, I will be moving to Doha end of October. I am originally from Croatia, as well as my husband, but have been living in New York City for the past 10 years. I am 30 without kids and looking for a fun group of ladies to hang out with too. What does your fiance does? My husband is currently looking for a job in construction (he is a project manager/mechanical engineer) but no luck as of yet… I got a great offer with Sidra Medical so I will be moving and he will hopefully be following 2-3 months after me.

Hi Bambii, Thank you so much for all the info again. My recruiter just got back to me with little more detail about housing allowance even though nothing specific. In my contract housing allowance and policies are clearly stated but there is nothing about specific amount... Anyway, I hope that everything is going smooth for you and your family and that you are enjoying your first days in Doha. Keep us posted on anything you think we (people who are moving in short time) should know. Dasni, Congratulation on your successful interview! Solway22, I am not a midwife, I am registered dietitian and certified lactation consultant (I am huge on breastfeeding promotion, protection and support !); I am sure we will be working together. I look forward to new job with Sidra!

Hi Bambii, Thank you for all of this information. This is very helpful. I have no kids as of now so no worries about schools placement, but my husband will be joining me after 2-3 months so we will go through a regular procedure. We were told that we will be in Al Rayyan Oais, I am assuming 2 bedroom apartment as they only have 2 and 3 bedroom apartments. I have the same question as Abby86, did they tell you how much your housing allowance is? I asked this question couple of times but never got an answer. My recruiter just emailed me today in re to housing allowance… she keeps telling me that I should stay with Sidra’s accommodation at firs (which I do want) and than if we want to move out to talk to housing department about housing allowance. However, I want to know this before hand and will ask them to add housing allowance amount in my contract. What are your thought about this since you are already there and have more insight? I am really excited to move! It seems as Doha has a lot to offer, but as you stated Bambii it all depends of what you make out of it. I am glad that they are into sports and have plenty of fitness classes. I am planning to go to kite surfing school, as well as scuba diving school :D Are there people who are roller blading? My husband and I both enjoy roller blade, we go almost every weekend to Central Park, NY, and are hoping there will be a nice area for roller blading in Doha. Cornice seems a good place. Thank you again for the information Bambii!

Hi Bambii, I hope you had a smooth relocation. How do you like Doha so far? Are you by any chance in Al Rayyan Oasis? How do you like to live there? I also heard that Al Rayyan Oasis is full (somewhere on the forum)...I was however told by Sidra that I will be living there. Any insight would be very helpful! I should be there sometimes in October. Thank you

Fauna, Thank you for your answer. I also asked about housing allowance, but got no answer yet. I am thinking of living in arranged housing at first, but would like to have an option to look for an apt. myself once there. I currently don't have children so did not asked for details about the schooling. Last winter was very long and cold in NYC, not quite like North East Ontario but still, and I am looking forward to warm Doha winter! Good luck with everything and lets keep in contact!

Hi Fauna, I will be working for Sidra as well; will likely be relocating sometimes in October. If you do not mind me asking, did you only negotiate base salary or you were negotiating vacation and other allowances? My agent recommended to negotiate only base salary. However, I was at first told that I will have 40 days leave/year + national holidays, and once providional offer came they said it will be 30 days leave/year + national holidays. I was bit anoyed by this...

Hi Naokal, You might want to check your thyroid function next time you go to visit your primary care doctor. Sometimes hormonal imbalances or thyroid dysfunction can be the cause of the hair thinning and falling. I am not implying anything but you might want to make sure with your doctor that your health is all good.

Hi Abby86, I asked my recruiter for this info but got no answer yet. Last week she said she is still waiting for Sidra's housing department to get back to me with this info. Where you offered any compound as of yet? I was told that I would be living in Al Rayyan Oasis, however, some women on the forum have mentioned that Al Rayyan Oasis is all filled up...I will have to check on this again as I do not want to end up in unattractive compound. By the way where are you moving from?

Rubyblue and Parkclark, Thank you for your insight advices. How far is Al Rayyan Oasis from Sidra? How far is it from West Bay? Cornice? I agree with Rubyblue that living, working, and commuting with the same people could be bit much, however, I think it is the best to live in the prearranged housing for a month-two and then see what are better options. How much does two bedroom apartment cost in West Bay or Pearl? Or what neighborhood would you recommend for a couple without kids? Parkclark, What role does your husband have in Sidra? You mentioned working long hours? I spoke with two of my colleagues that are already there, and they said there is no overtime and that they really like it there. One has been there for two years and another for 11 months. Also, after what time was your husband able to take time off? I should definitely ask about this. Abby86, Congratulation on your successful interview. There is a lot of paperwork that you need to submit so do not be freaked out by this. I am still submitting my paperwork (last two pieces: a letter of a good standing from my credentialing agency and getting my BLS certificate renewed before my visa is finalized). I got my offer before reference check, however, yes the recruiter check my references and also a third party agency is checking my references/criminal background now again. There is really a lot of paperwork, however, I think this is how it should be. There should be all this paperwork as they want to make sure that people that they are bringing are qualified. When I was moving in the USA from Europe ten years ago, I went through overwhelming amount of paperwork as well so for me this is not surprise. It would not be good if they were not doing all these checks and requesting all this paperwork to be quite honest. In terms of work before the hospital opens, I was also told that I will be working on policy development and recruiting people. As I mentioned above, I was connected with two of my colleagues that are already in Sidra and they said the same. They both also mentioned that there is a lot of work as they need to get the hospital ready for the patients and they said it is very interesting and unique opportunity to see all the work that needs to be done before the hospital can open.

Hi Abby86, I can choose if I want to live in SIDRA's arranged housing or to get housing allowance. I choose prearranged housing for the beginning as I do not want to deal with searching for an apartment when I first move...I was told I will be located in Al Rayyn Oasis - it looks nice. Latter on I might decide to take housing allowance ( I am not sure how much is this). I am married, however, my husband is currently looking for a job there too. We are planing for him to move ~2-3 months after me. My basic salary offer is higher than what I currently make pre-tax. I got a very generous offer.

Fauna, I received my provisional offer end of April and after I send negotiation letter, Sidra responded within a day. I submitted all of my documentation necessary for visa application by mid June, so right before Ramadan and that is why visa processing is taking time. My recruiter told me during Ramadan majority of Sidra's employees were off therefore everything was moving really slow. I am not in any rush anyway. Good luck with your negotiation! Bambii, I agree with you that Sidra will at least meet your current pretax salary and I do not think that they do not want Americans. They just look for qualified people mostly from western countries.

Happyfamilies, I am not sure what position have you applied for, however, I was offered a very competitive salary from Sidra, ~$30,000/year more than I make in NYC, including all other benefits. I was not looking for a new job, but a recruiter found me on Linked In and contacted me first... After my Skype interview with Sidra people they seem to really want me so after the first offer (which was also good) I negotiated and got what I wanted... Currently, I am in the process of getting my visa now and should be ready to move sometimes in October.

Hi PolePole, I am in the same boat. Will be moving to Doha in October and from my research and couple of different forums, it seems as there is no Bikram yoga in Doha, however, as you stated you can just leave your apartment and practice Bikram outdoors, especially during summer months lol.

Duds, Thank you for your response. I will definitely keep in touch. I was told by my company (Sidra Medical and Research Center) that they will be providing furnished accomodation so we do not have to worry about major stuff for moving. I am glad to hear that you like it there. I am so excited for this move. I am originaly from Croatia, have lived for 2 yrs in San Francisco, and for the past 8th years in NYC. I LOVE NYC, however, its time to move on. I am so excided for Doha!

Hi goldenshores, In terms of interview they asked me a lot of case questions that are related to my offered position. I am a Registered Dietitian and I was offered a supervisory position. Also they asked me some management questions about how to deal with my team etc. They also asked details about when am I available to come, who am I coming with, am I married, and all those personal questions that you would not get in the USA or Canada. However, they need to know all that so they can arrange visas and accommodation. In terms of accommodation, I won't be sharing housing; I will likely be in Al Rayyan Oasis compound. Ivana

What is cheaper, leasing or renting? I am assuming leasing... I do not need a fancy car, just something basic... What would be my best option? My company offers QR 2000 for transport allowance. Thank you.

Hi purplelips71, First time a recruiter contacted me was beginning of March. I first interview with her (just a screening), then I had to send all the paper work for Sidra to review. They invited me for a Skype interview on April 16 and they offered me a job ~2-3 weeks after that. I just accepted the offer yesterday so they now have to send me an official contract etc. It does take some time. Be patient and I hope your hear back from them. You can also send a follow up email.
