Hi there, After being let down by our maintenance guy repeatedly. Can anyone recommend a company who work or will travel to Sharjah? My oven has died and it needs urgent attention. Thanks.

That's great. The greens might be a little further than I would like to travel but it's a good option if I don't have any luck nearer to home. I'll look into both suggestions. Thanks.

I'm reading Spell of The Highlander by Karen Marie Moning. It's the last one of the Highlander series and have some very "delicious" characters. A great read and the author is fantastic. It's been good to feel her writing develop with each one. I've never been a "romance" reader but after Twilight I'll give anything a try. The "Fever" series and is more dark and is for adults. (It follows the Highlander series although I read them first). They are the best novels I've read so far I'm completely hooked (hence reading The Highlander series). Everyone I've passed them onto is hooked too. edited by KMFS1107 on 10/07/2012

I saw some at Decathlon in Mirdif City Centre the other day. Not sure of the price but doubt they'd be too expensive.

Good thread. we're considering getting one of these pools but not sure about the maintenance. Can you get guys in to clean it as you would a built in pool?? Don't mind doing it myself as long as it's easy enough. Are they okay to be placed on concrete or should it be a softer surface??

I'd love to be a little bit taller. Being 5'3 is a pain when all jeans need to be petite. Makes me feel even shorter!!! I've always hated my toes too. Don't know why. If I saw them on someone else I probably wouldn't even notice!!!!;)

Hi, Kids who usuaully have Chickenpox might be a little unwell for a few days before any signs of spots appear. It's more common for runny noses etc but not too sure about vomitting. You'll only really know if it's chickenpox though once the spots start to appear. Very small red pimple type spots which can vary in amount. They increase in amount and size to look like lots of little tiny pink blister filled spots quite quickly. Once the spots have dried up then they are no longer contagious. I would imagine that if your child has had the vaccine then it's more likely to be a vomitting bug?? Not sure how effective the vaccine is. Hope your little one gets better soon. Kerry

My daughter loves Hello kitty, I did it mum, Peppa *** and Lets Draw. All are very easy with lots of mini games to keep her amused. She's 5 though so maybe a little young for what your after.

Great, this is all good to know. We have a viewing booked for a villa in Halwan and some other suburbs around it this weekend. It's great to hear what is working for those of you who already live in Sharjah. The wanderers club sounds very popular and a good place to meet others. Thanks all.

Hi, I have some issues with my 4 year old, I really feel frustrated that she is just being labelled and would love to know which school you settled on,the head at my current school has been helpful to be fair but I feel the class teacher is just not fully supportive and can be negative...It has all been very stressful when school is supposed to be fun and the child needs to feel secure and happy.....Would be very interested to hear of any good schools accepting of the individual child .:) it is just sad when your child does not really fit the mould yet is a smart bright fun child... Hi there, I'm sorry you're having issues with your child and their school. Trust your instincts as a parent on this, you are the person who knows your child best. Your child is only 4 and has plenty of time to blossom. We send our children to Sharjah English School and so far all is going well. It seems a family focussed and easy going school and the communication has been excellent. My daughter had 20 mins support each day back in the Uk but is requiring a "shadow" over here to assist her settling in (This will be reviewed after one term) and she has also been placed in the year group below. So far the school are very keen to do what is best for my daughter rather than what works best for the school and the rest of the pupils. Obviously what is right for one child may not be right for another but I am happy with the decisions made at this moment in time. We didn't even consider looking further than Dubai for schools until my husband found SES through a work contact! I hope things all work out for the best and that your little one is able to be happy and enjoying school very soon! Kerry

Hi there, I know exactly how you are feeling as we have been in the same position with my 9 year old daughter. I'm not sure where you are from but for us coming from the UK with a child needing mild learning support meant we had to search high and low to find a school to suit my daughters needs. We have only been over here for a few weeks but my daughter has settled into her new school very well and after months of stress and anxiety it feels as though we are getting somewhere. This was not our first choice of school (I couldn't even tell you what number on the list it was!) BUT I am so happy with this choice and thankful to the other schools for their rejections. Be prepared to search for schools further away than you might initially have anticipated. Come over for a visit (if you can afford the time and money) and bring some strong supportive information over with you from your childs current school (as positive as possible regarding behaviour and needs!!). Don't dispair. It can all be achieved with perseverance and a bold approach when dealing with schools. It took us a few months to get it sorted but we have done it and I'm sure many others have too. Good Luck and stay strong. Kerry

Thanks all. It's good to have some positive feedback for a place, especially when you don't know anything about the area!! I believe another villa is coming available very soon so we will be going to view them again. Although it's not available yet so we're waiting patiently. How are communications with the landlord? I read a thread on here from a while back saying he wasn't particularly keen on European expats?? It did make me think twice.

Hi there, I'm a British mum of 3 who's just arrived over to Dubai to be with my husband. We're looking for a villa in the Mirdif area and wanted to know if there is anywhere in particular to try for or avoid. We have seen a lovely spacious villa at Al Shafar and we love the Shorooq villas although they are smaller. All agents are saying that the prices are non negotiable but I find this hard to believe. We have 3 young children 9,5 & 4 and would like to be in a community where we can make lots of friends. If anyone has any advice it would be gratefully received. Thanks Kerry
