Guiness, seriously cinnamon? That's so interesting! So you just sprinkle it as a powder around the ant trails? Does it just put them off or does it actually kill the little critters? Love natural alternatives to toxic chemicals!

Sounds good Shaks, and that's a good price too. Out of interest, since I've already brought this kit, has anyone heard of/used SANTE (organic) to colour their hair before? Any good?

Thanks for the tip Shaks. I've never actually coloured my hair before, did those dodgy wash in wash outs that left my hair with an orange or purple hue a couple of times in my 20s, but nothing since! Am nervous to try anything but am seeing some grey hairs these days that need addressing! Has anyone heard of the German brand SANTE, 100% herbal hair colour? Any good? I brought a packet from the Organic Supermarket. It claims to add natural shine and volume but I haven't had the courage to try it. Shaks did the Koleston foam by Wella turn your hair the colour indicated on the packaging + how long does it last?

Thanks for your responses ladies. Everything about these two men just felt wrong. For some reason I noticed them the second they walked in + hoovered around quietly observing children outside Toystore. It was as though they were pretending to be tourists. In the interest of warning other mothers I shall attempt to describe them. Though hard to say I think they were of Eastern European origin (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan perhaps), both in their 40s. One man was tall + slim (6,3ft or there abouts) with darker brown hair peppered with grey, while the other was shorter, not so slim and with a rounder face wearing a rose coloured tshirt. Both white but tanned + both had professional cameras the type with zoom in lenses. I telephoned 901 to report the incident because I decided to trust my gut instinct that this was not innocent. I have in the past been more than happy to have my DS+DD held, talked to + even cuddled by friendly child loving strangers who have asked permission first. This was different though. The agent who picked up my 901 telephone call said he would report it to IBN Battuta Mall management + if I see them again to immediately report them.

OOOh Redlesley I didn't realise they brough this lot to you: "They deliver a HUGE chilled box of food ready to cook, deliver a BBQ and then light campfires around the area and leave you to it. It is calm, peaceful, bats were flying around and it's the most relaxing thing ever." Sounds amazing. I'll definitely consider camping there when my youngest is 2years. I'll email Marilyn at Dreamland, thanks for the tip Shamat! Dreamland is something I'll do in a month of so because actually it turns out that I saw his dealgobbler deal today for RAK Iceland for 339AED a Family Package 2 adult tickets + 2 child tickets inclusive of a nights stay in City Hotel. Came at the right time, just hope it's a good for little ones as I hear Dreamland is. Will report back on Iceland incase anyones interested. Thanks ladies :)

Like HAK says, it's good to encourage the children's interest in animals, but under your terms + conditions. You need to protect your pets from harm but also nuture their interest so that they grow up respectful of animals. Be firm + confident in laying down the 'how to pet the pets' rules, then praise them when they are gentle. You'll be doing the animal world a service, maybe they'll go on to be loving pet owners themselves in the future. No education is ever lost. Re the mother, your friend, if you teach her kids kindly but firmly she'll no doubt be grateful. If it doesn't work at all then put the cats in another room when they come over for playdates, say they have been at the vets for jabs or something + mustn't be disturbed :)

I'm in the same position + I take my littlest one with me in a wrap fr daytime meetings. If it's an evening meeting then either myself or my husband stays home with the children so only one of us attends. I think parents + teachers are understanding.

They do free flow cosmos for Ladies on Thursday & Friday from 8 till 12 and on Tuesdays free strawberry Daiquiri. Plus the Main bar (dance floor bit) and lounge are smoke free. Check it out Rebecca it's good fun, but don't go too early in the evening.

Old fashioned girls sleep over party? Borrow/rent/buy a big screen for a couple of great girlie movies to be watched while in their PJs in sleeping bags munching junk food, popcorn, nachos, hotdogs, chocolate etc. Buy a candy floss machine + let them make their own or chocolate fountain. A bit of freedom from watching adults for sure. I just ran this idea by my 11 year old niece + she said she'd like this.

[i'>OH had it done here, no problems and very good aftercare. Had it done at Lasek on the beach road opp JBH. No pain, back at work the following day.[/i'> Grumpy, you had Lasek not Lasik then? Back to work the next day sounds good! Is it the norm then, just 24 hour irritation? I have Atlanta Vision Clinic vouchers for Lasek on both eyes (4,950aed all in) but am considering selling it cos I'm worried about the pain. Just gritty eyes + back to work the next day sounds bareable though.

TheProf: wow that's pricey 12,000 to 14,000 AED at Moorfields!? I purchased a really good deal then from The Atlantic Vision Clinic from Groupon, for only 4,950AED BOTH eyes. Done my research + the Ophthalmologist is top notch with a great reputation. I have to the end of this year to go for it. Except I am really funny when it comes to eyes and I want to chicken out! Tried to talk myself round to giving up the irritated red short sighted eyes but my scremishness has won though I think. Anyone want to buy the voucher off me?!

What about buying an Ergo carrier + wearing him on your back so your hands are free to get stuff done? Maybe share his naptime with him + just fall asleep cuddling, it's really soothing + comforting to little ones to have physical contact like this :) ANd a great excuse to catch up on your sleep too. Before too much longer I reckon they'll be approaching their teens + we'll be the ones wanting more cuddles! It goes by so fast..

I like The Address Dubai Marina Saturday family brunch cos aside from the food being amazing, they also have a bouncy castle with slide, face painting, a cornered off soft play area in the middle of the dining room, balloons, wii, + the staff are really lovely + great at entertaining little ones. Mine run riot + they seem to be cool with it :) Kids under 6yrs r free, they do tasty kids options made fresh + adults I think are 195AED including non alcoholic drinks (but double check this). Also heard great things about the Westin Brunch, but think it's quite a lot more expensive?

Most people have some odd behaviour they repeat for a supersitious or otherwise reason. Had this conversation with girlfriends once, everyone of us had something! One admitted she needed to fold her toilet paper 7 times before wiping, another said the last thing she needed to look at in her bedroom before leaving it had to be a certain foto, I have to align cutlery in my dishwasher when I'm loading it just so (if someone puts a fork in the 'spoons' section I have to put it back in the correct place before turning it on). Another wouldn't hang laundry on a particular rung of her clothes horse for fear of bringing bad luck etc. Was really funny to discuss out loud as I never really gave it much thought before. Jennifer Aniston got loads of stick once by the media for admitting she liked her toilet rolls facing out when hanging up. Everyone has something if you think about it long enough. I scored high too, yikes!

Just read an article in a magazine about colours, about the importance of wearing the colours/shades that suit you+your skin tone. Colours were catagorised under Winter/Summer, Spring/Autumn + then between warm + cool. Has anyone experienced a colour consultancy session either here or abroad? How did it go? Was it money well spent?

I searched Reel Cinemas website for a number I could telphone that wasn't just a recorded message, no luck. So I sent an email to their general enquiries. Hopefully it gets to Management. Interesting that it seems to be common practice. Just don't want children exposed to this kind of violence, that whole eye clampin thing was really disturbing! Let's see if I get a response.

Icoolie the Groupon deal was with 'Atlanta Vision Clinic' (close to Burj Al Arab on Jumeirah Beach Road) it closed last night at midnight. Because I only had an hour to decide before the deal closed I think I may have rushed into it somewhat + am worried about whether I have made the right decision! Thanks so much for the USAEyes link Bianca72. May I ask the name of your Doctor + what do you think of his/her standards? Did you also see the USAEyes: 50 tough questions for your Lasik Doctor? Just hope Dr. Huba + Dr. Ashraf at Atlanta really know their stuff. When will you have the corrective surgery Bianca72 + if you wear soft lenses how long before surgery were you advised to keep the lenses out? So many questions, sorry!

Rach28 my DS goes to Willow + is in one of their FS1 classes + we totally love it. I was a nervous parent at first because he'd never been away from me before. But they were really gentle with us both! :) All the teachers there are fully trained, enthusiastic + highly experienced, all lovely. The staff/pupil ratios are great. Jan Webber the owner has had decades of experience running top notch nurseries in Dubai before she decided to set up her own. I have so much respect for her + so do her staff. Parents are made to feel very welcome + I genuinely feel the children are loved. The only negative feedback I've ever heard is that older kids don't have beds/palettes to stretch out on if they want to sleep, though they can sleep on soft mats + cushions if they wish. The nursery is kept clean + tidy which is really important to me. Refreshingly non money grabbing too! I think I visited over 10 nurseries before I chose Willow + I'm so grateful I found it because my son is obviously thriving :)

As in, don't want to get pregnant again so DH has a snip? I know of friends' husbands that have had it done in the UK. Always wanted to ask them about it but felt it might not be very tactful. I want to know if having the snip is 100% fool proof + if it alters the male libido at all? Anyone shed some light?

We rented our place out using an agent a couple of years ago. Attached to the standard rera conract was an agents page stating terms + conditions. One of the terms for renewal stated that there was a renewal fee, a HUGE one actually. We were shocked at the amount so told the tenant that we would be happy to go it alone so that he didn't have to pay this agents fee. So we spent ages writing up a new contract that would offer us both protection. Then a week before the end of the contract our then tenant told us he was leaving Dubai (mid summer). Left us high + dry to rent out our place during the quiet season. Had we used an agent we would have had a bit more protection maybe. Guess it's more security for your landlord to go through an Agency, certainly less work. But the agency won't charge the landlord as the landlord could always go with another agency. So they charge you an 'administrative' cost. Are they charging you a lot? What can they do anyways if you refuse to pay it?

Nope think in Dirhams now. When I go to UK I convert back into AED to work out what I'm paying. Haven't lived in UK since I was a kid getting pocket money, so if I look at UK price tags everything seems REALLY expensive :) But when I convert it back to AED things seem cheaper. I can shop more when things seem cheaper ;)

Congratulations Blueblogger! I was just about to say Welcare Hospital in Al Garhoud :) I had my antenatal care there with Dr. Medhi Santi who was just fantastic. Never rushed me, amazing listening skills, very caring + an excellent OB/GYN. I delivered my second child there + will always have lovely memories of the whole experience. I was treated with such respect, as were my family. I hmmed + ahhed about whether to have a Doula as I wanted my husband to take care of our first born rather than be in with me. I didn't have a doula in the end, just the midwives, the 3 of them were like sisters + gave me loads of support. edited by KT on 12/04/2011

Moby Wraps are just the BEST ever invention for Parental sanity + infant happiness. I didn't hear a peep out of my newborn DD when I put her in the Moby. She just couldn't stay awake :) It meant no colic (as we were warm tummy to tummy + her ear was to my heart) + my first born wasn't jealous because by wearing her he couldn't see her, I just looked pregnant still. Hands free + calm snug bubba, bliss! I brought my two Mobys off Dubizzle.

This is common + IMHO I don't think it's anything to worry about. You should look at what he comsumes in a week rather than daily, because some days he will eat quite a lot + other days nearly nothing but milk. As long as you are offering some variety + he is free to chose to eat it if he wants then that's enough. Their tummies are tiny at this age. Breast milk is their main staple until 12 months + you're obviously doing a great job on nourishing him with this. Is he happy + energetic, gaining weight + height consistently? If yes then I wouldn't worry! If you're worried about choking, I brought a little plastic device with a net at the end of a little handle. You pop a chunk of food into the net (banana/apple etc. + snap it shut + the baby holds it + chews + sucks the food through the net, so no lumps get through. I brought it from Mothercare + like it a lot. Other thing to think about is teething, it affect appetite + also I've noticed when a number 2 is due that can affect how my LO eats. If a poops is due then he has no apetite at all.

Not a silly question at all MaxandMe. You should wait for hot food to turn to warm before you put it in the FRIDGE (the lid should not be fully on, but slightly ajar). When the food is cool then you can put it into the FREEZER with the lid on fully. This is the recommended safe way of doing it.

Your chances are higher if a) you live in the Greens, b) you have a sibling already in the school + c) English is your child's first language. That is what I was told by the School. They charge 500aed to register your child for the waitlist, but then another 500AED to do the 20 minute assessment in groups of 4 or so. It's the only school I know of to charge another 500AED to assess. You may stand a chance because lots of parents put their child's name down for several schools, and with Regents reputation (whether earned or unfair I can't say) which isn't the best there's a chance that a lot of those names on the waitlist are just using Regents as a back up just incase? They have I think 7 FS2 classes, so if you don't get a place this year you could ask them to role your registration on to next. But you have to let them know this.

I take mine to the little hairdressing salon behind the softplay section of Fun City in Ibn Battuta Mall. They pop the LOs in a high secure chair + put teletubbies on to keep them still. 30AED + I am happy with the outcome. Oherwise for 70 or so AED you could try Favourite Things in Dubai Marina Mall (Marina). They will give you a little certificate with a lock of your child's hair if it is their first hair cut, very cute :)

LOL! Mine enjoyed the assessment too. If you fancy getting our boys together so they can make a friend before term starts let me know + I'll post my email address. DBS haven't allocated classes yet, but I hear there are 4 FS1 + 4 FS2. I was reassured by a lady working in admissions the other day. She told me they have a careful settling in period. The first week or so of reduced hours, they bring in the more confident children first (probably the slightly older ones or the ones who have already been used to nurseries) then when the core is settled they bring in the younger ones. Or something like that.

We love the Saturday Family Brunch at Mazina in The Address Dubai Marina. Aside from the food being awesome they have a big bouncy castle, balloon bending, face painting, colouring tables, various toys, a wii + some really marvellous staff who totally take care of them if you fancy having some adult conversation. We keep going back because it recharges our adult batteries as well as makes the kids sleep well that night.
