His basic salary is 12,000 AED a month. he has expenses plus a 'housing allowance' of 3,000. He works for an onshore company (not freezone) and he has a degree in carpentry and joinery. Hope this provides more info. I appreciate your help here :)

Hello Ladies! my hubbie is currently looking for a new job in construction (to cut a long story short he came out with no job (I had one) and he took something that doesn't pay well at all because he just needed something and we panicked)! now we have been here 8 months and ive been applying for lots of jobs for him but have heard that there may be a labour ban if he leaves before 1 year service? his company aren't in a position to pay him more even though they would really like to and he needs to put his family first so we can start paying back our debts and live comfortably. Rent out here is killing us (and he receives no allowance) Basically my question is I have heard that new laws state that if you move to a higher paid job then they cant impose a labour ban on you. or does anyone know of how to get around this ban?? Thanks :)

I'm going to wait until tomorrow thank you! No one can accommodate me. I'm not sure what's wrong but it's 6 weeks after insertion and I have abdominal pain and a general not feeling well - headaches back aches and it's worrying me now. Thank you! :)

Hi OP! I don't doubt u for a minute because I know which school u are asking about I think I may have even spoken to your husband about this! I have already lodged an email complaint and waiting to hear back from the school as my little girl also attends this school and I do not for one minute agree with male cleaners being anywhere near the toilets esp when some of the locks are broken??!! We need to take this further?? I've been trying to see the original post here but can't on my phone or some reason I'm not sure if u are the lady who noticed the male cleaners (I spoke to her husband on Thursday as I was also worried) or if you have just heard from them what was happening. But this is def not a "dodgy thread" because I too have a little girl who's 5 in that same school and have written a letter of complaint to the school and want answers edited by LannyDuff on 05/10/2014

We both start work on Sunday (only found out today) I need somewhere for my lo to go for a few hours after school- the bus can drop her. Can anyone recommend a nursery that take children after school for 2/3 hours? HI there! im 26 but in diff circumstances to u as im married with a little girl. i move over next week :) i am well into the interview stage with 2 big law firms in the UAE as I am a legal secretary (luck i think- there seems to be a shortage at the moment). have u sent your CV to a few different agencies?? I sent mine off and within an hour I had someone on the phone asking to help. I say take the risk- apply to some agencies and see where that takes you. i am working with an agency now and as I said I have one skype interview in the morning and a test for the other company on thursday! But best of luck :)

no probs at all it does sound a bit mad! and its somewhat confusing but yes we have decided to up and leave without work! now saying that we have money behind us enough to keep us going for 6 months we have it all discussed. my husband does have work lined up and also something to fall back on if that doesnt work out we also have family out there who are willing to help if this doesnt work out. we are just hoping he gets something better than what he has lined up as it may only be for 6 months work etc. we are looking for something permanent. the recruitment agency is very reputable i have done the research on them. you may think me mad (lol i am) and have been trying to get to dubai for over a year now and its been slow so we are going out on a whim. but we do have saftey nets and contacts if we dont secure work and also some money behind us if all else fails :)

Ladies im really sorry for jumping on this post when i dont have any advice for OP but i am just looking at some of the comments re work per month between me and my DH we will be earning approx 45,000 AED a month and reading this now im not sure its enough :( we have one little girl who will be going to year 1 and looking to get a 2 bed flat in dubai land for the first year. we arrive out in 2 weeks and can you all shed some light if we are punching way above out weight with this wage for 3 of us? You should be absolutely fine with this salary, it's good, assume up to 5k a month school fees, up to 15k a month for rent and perhaps another 2k for bills, so quite a good ammount left to pay for everything else. Thanks Cornish Pixie!! i got a bit worried whne i read some of the comments. now its the fun part of trying to find childcare :/

thanks ladies!! the interview had to be put off until next week as they are short staffed due to Eid which suits me fine as i was a nervous wreck lol! My husband flies out next week (the 10TH) looking for work and he is really hoping not to come home. can I ask do you all know how long it takes for a residency visa to come through? (i mean once he has secured a job - we wont be going anywhere until that happens and his visa is being processed) can we go over on our 30 day visit visa and wait for our family visa to come through or would u advise not to do this. also just looking at the RTA to see if i can transfer my licence to an emirates one but i cant read arabic as of yet :/ any one know if an irish licence falls into this category?? edited by LannyDuff on 28/07/2014

Thanks Lolacat! I said previously that when and only when a job is found and i find a place for my girl in a school will i bring her over. we are very anxious to move but as i said i will not do anything until everything is in place. i was hoping this may be before the 28th August (when she is due to start school) but looking around its very unlikely to happen. the recruitment agency is Miller Hay - they specialize in legal as far as i see and they have plenty of jobs on offer for me so i will see how the skype interview monday goes maybe? the girl is british who i spoke to on the phone and she rang from a +971 number?? please tell me this sounds normal or did i get my hopes up here? :/ Ireland is a very expensive place to live also but we have been to dubai a few times and it equals it in some ways (besides alcohol and rent everything seems about the same) as much as it looks like im jumping on the bandwaggon here we have been considering going to dubai for years just was never feesable us not being married. also with regard looking over the world dont think i want to live anywhere else.. :( he already did 2 years in afghanistan and that was torture me being here and him away. :)

IM not up to speed with the various requirements on the UAE Visas but understood that i would have to go in as a wife to get a job???

ive heard the construction sector has taken a bit of a down turn?? he has middle east experience so hoping it might stand to him a bit if this interview doesnt work out :/ I know a good company looking for someone but they would have to have some design or architectural experience. thank you! he wouldnt have the design element unfortunately he has CAD drawing experience but mainly his work involved the reading and implementing the designs/drawings :(

ah thanks that really helps! that would be our max budget for the first year but after that we would probably move to somewhere a bit bigger (hopefully) luck might be on our side as we will be arriving the 2nd or 3rd week of august and i know its when most are away as its unbearable. can i be a pain and ask how did you manage a 4bed on similar to this budget anything ive seen is near enough a studio apartment- im obviously not looking at the right areas lol! thanks again ;) OP, there are plenty of safe, nice and affordable areas as long as you are flexible with your requirements. For your 100K budget you can afford an apartment (1-2 bed) in a nice but slightly remote area. You will have access to landscaped grounds, kids play areas, private parking and a communal pool, so I'm sure you won't find the lifestyle too bad to suffer for a while. You may have to forsake living in a villa, having a garden, living close to central areas (remember Dubai is a city of hotspots, not just one central area, so you can live centrally but at completely opposite ends of town to someone else who also lives centrally) and some of the glam that many seek in Dubai. Schools are tricky and it may take considerable time, effort and funds to secure a place at a good school, so remember to not leave it too late. If you spend some time looking for a place to live, there are some gems out there. My husband and I live in a 4-bed with our 2YO at roughly your budget, and we have a little garden and all the usual amenities (pool, gym etc.). We spent LOADS of time viewing and negotiating to find this gem so my advice to you is to do the same! Also, we found it easier to do this during the summer when the rest of Dubai were still in Europe... Best of luck!

Judging by these im guessing im better off finding a school first then deciding where to live?? i think the New GEMS is situated in Motor City so once visas are sorted etc put her name down for a place here and go from there?? thanks for the info :) edited by LannyDuff on 28/04/2014

Ladies ive been reading some of the posts about the new regulations of LL's being able to charge what they want for rent. its making me a bit nervous. my husband has a job lined up for september but could anyone please throw a few names of areas popular with expats that are nice/safe and preferably not too expensive. we are a young married Irish couple (well we are getting married in 7 weeks) with a 4 year old girl. so somewhere close to a british school - ive seen a few new schools being opened (GEMS) and was hoping to get her into one of these! Thanks in advance :) P.S our budget would be about 100k max!!
