I suffered with fat foot for so long and thought it was hereditary as my grandmother had it. Had loads of tests at home and showed nothing. I have even purchased some "special" shoes as a celebration of my new skinny foot! I cant wait to wear them, such a simple pleasure.

Hi Simoralu44, Most of the cost was covered by my insurance as I had pain and swelling, but I didnt have a visible vein. I dont think they do what you had done anymore as I thought this was what I was having done, but I had no stitches just a little plaster where they went in! The cost I was quoted was between AED 15k and 22k, the main costs out of my pocket is the ultrasounds. I guess it depends on the medical insurance you have, I have a 10% co-payment so Im sure Im up for some more at the next appointment. I dont care how much it costs as I am so happy with the outcome, I dont have a "cankle" anymore and my fat foot is almost non-existent, seeing as I am a shoe girl i am a happy camper.

Glad I could help, as I was freaking out as well. Yes I had laser and Dr Sobeh was incredibly sweet and caring during the operation and just so gentle. The op took 20 minutes in total but I didnt have one of the proceedures as it wasnt needed but Dr Sobeh said in our pre op discussion that it would take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour depending on what needed to be done. One of my work colleagues went to another doc for the same procedure and had a completely different experience, he was in support stockings for 2 months and still has numbness and his bruising was much worse. I think it depends on what you have done and how you heal in general. I just made sure I did everything the Dr Sobeh said and didnt deviate from his advice at all.

I had mine done last week with Dr Sobeh and I am incredibly happy. One week post op I have minimal bruising and am out of my support stocking and back in low high heels. I had an epidural although I had an option for a general, the anaesthesits recommended that I have the epidural rather than the general. Both my doctors were superb and gentle and caring. I was at City Hospital and the staff were amazing, although you do get differing reports about the hospital. I was sore and tender for a few days post op, but I rested up and went for little slow walks. You are encouraged to get up and moving as soon as you can. Other than that you just feel like you have been given a whopping great kick in the leg, then it feels like you have a pulled muscle which is just annoying but not uncomfortable. There is a little numbness around the incision area and that is slowly getting better. Its all managed with anti-inflammatories and pain killers, plus a little love from your DH. Good luck

Yes, when my usual hairdresser from sisters beauty lounge was away on holidays for a top up! Over the course of a year i went from brunette to blond ombré, it wasn't a once off thing because my hair threw red/orange. I have stuck with Sisters as I can't afford Salon Inks prices and I thought that sisters did the same job, if not better.

Loving my Bag at Palm Strip Mall dyes shoes. Unfortunately I thought they were "restoring" a pair of my shoes but they actually dyed them very sad as it completely ruined my natural untreated leather shoes. However, the workmanship was very good and clean with no overspray and an even coverage of colour. They had done a great job, if that was what I wanted.

Ours did the same, gave us 12 months notice is going to sell but we know he is going to re-let it at a higher rate....or so he thought.....there are some nice cranes going up in front of us and the building site should be in full swing when we move out in December. Karma.

Absolutely you are well within your rights to ask for another gardener. He is just taking you for a ride. We had a similar situation with a maid and at first I felt sorry for her coming from an impovished region until we caught her out, by chance. She was sent home by the company because she was doing the same thing to others. The company was pleased we had raised the matter directly with them because it ruins their reputation and ultimately their business.

I was home last month, $1.50 a litre for petrol....and you have to pump it yourself! Went to Red Rooster for a family chook meal....$39.00 for chips, chook, coleslaw and potatoes and gravy. Wow I was shocked. We have decided to stay here for a while longer its cheaper by far.

I miss the occassional downpour or thunderstorm. When I first arrived here it was 12 months before I saw rain, never realised how much i missed it until then. It cleans the air, washes the trees down and I love the smell of rain.

I think its the view aspect and the road facing as well. Plus there are some complete twits of agents and always IFA are more expensive than the idenpendent agents. We were showed our apartment twice and the price difference was 40k between IFA and the agent albeit that was 2 and a half years ago. edited by littleone on 11/04/2013

Nikki63, the type of apartment in GM varies. For example there are 2 styles of 2 bed's in GM and the prices vary between the ranges you mentioned below as some are larger than others, some have maids, some dont. Also depends if there is or isnt a sea view depends on the building number, whether there is signficantly more traffic noise, which depends on if you are near a speed bump. Some landlords include capacity charges in their rents others charge the tenants. Some landlords just dont have any idea of what the market is dictating as value and believe the hyped up media.

I am exactly the same, never had these issues in Oz and I now hate this time of year and have a load of Telfast in my medicine cabinet. I went to Dr and he said its an allergy to the dust, coupled with spring pollen and I am a pink and swollen eyed snotty nosed mess. Its more bearable if I have the air purifier on at home 24/7.

Bugg3r! Marina residences are nice though and a good option as the layouts are fairly similar. Or try going through a real estate agent for GM, they are always cheaper than IFA! Good luck with your move. edited by littleone on 09/04/2013

There are fake and real HCG drops. If you google HCG forums they provide heaps of information on the different types of HCG and their effectiveness, but its each to their own type of HCG they take, injections, drops, sprays and tablets. There is also a you tube video by Dr Oz on the positives and negatives of this protocol. I have done one round of HCG (drops) and lost 10% of my initital body weight and maintained it for over 3 months now. You must follow the diet strictly during each phase, you slowly reintroduce foods back into your diet. I know now what I can and cant eat, what I can eat freely and not have reactions. The principles of the HCG Diet are also found by doing some serious research and taking the time to completely understand the protocol and how much this will impact your lifestyle. It was hard...its not easy. Do some research before thinking this is the miracle cure for weight loss. edited by littleone on 09/04/2013

hey littleone... are u in GM2 - apparently we are planning to book an apartment... which we are told is sold to a new LL and will be vacated by 26 april? Nope saggi_1, we are not. Our lease isnt up until the end of the year and we will relocate to another apartment in one of the other buildings, either GM or another on the Palm. Just need to a landlord that has some common sense and wants a great tenant who has a fur baby with references. edited by littleone on 09/04/2013

The cladding on the sides of the balconies can be highly flammable. I agree Hamar but there is no cladding on GM. I think the biggest threat for highly flammable cladding buildings are the idiots that flick their lit cigarettes over balconies or down rubbish shutes.

No, personally I dont BBQ in the apartment, but some numpty in our building did with a coal BBQ. Really some people have no idea. Saggi, we are moving not by choice but because our LL gave us the appropriate notice and he is apparently "selling" the apartment although we believe his real motivation is to get more rent.

Go up a size at least...if you are a 10US you would be a 12 to 14UK depending on the cut or manufacturer. Some UK brands are very small sizing whilst others are more generous. Most companies provide a comparison on their websites. There should be universal sizing!

In response to your questions. 1. Riva isn't that bad and there is a lovely restaurant. Don't hold your breath for GM facilities, they told us 3 years ago they were opening in a month!!! 2. Concierge has all the numbers, but Milk and Honey deliver. A bit pricey but there are a couple of other places on shoreline that also deliver. 3. Drop off laundry to concierge they have a pick up with Dubai Laundry which is good. 4. Yes only one space but concierge can arrange a second space. In all, the GM concierge service will arrange just about everything and the staff are lovely.

Hi tweeters, i think each woman is different and I know that mum went straight into self preservation mode after her diagnosis. Mum didn't have restoration following the mastectomy and her primary objective was to get better. She was also very matter of fact when it came to the mastectomy, it just has to be gone. We had never had BC touch family or friends before so mum wanted information, as much as she could get. We have a cancer council in OZ that helped with information, beauty, prosthesis and counselling, they were amazing and provided support for the whole family. Mum did find it very tough following the mastectomy as her "girls" as she said were one of her best features and she had breast fed her children. Her body image was definitely low, her self esteem yes it was dented but she was so strong and determined to get better. During her chemo there were good days and bad. She got books, Internet research and spoke with survivors to arm herself with knowledge, some good and some very dodgy but she was able to decipher what she needed and wanted to hear. She now speaks to women who are going through BC and treatment, she helps husbands understand what is happening to their wives and partners. Mum wasn't strong at the beginning but my lord now this woman takes no prisoners! She is amazing. Tweeters, my offer to chat is there if you want too, I was lucky to have a lady to talk with during Mum's treatment so I could ask questions and talk with, cry with and who understood what mum was going through.

tweeters, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a mastecomy within a week of her diagnosis. I am not sure what stage she was but it was very aggressive and there were some affected lymph nodes, I can check if you like. She was 50 years old when she was diagnosed, that was well over 10 years ago. I am happy to talk with you about my experience as a daughter of a breast cancer if you would like to chat. sending you and your mum good thoughts and strength and a cyber hug

Maybe check with RTA/insurer if an International Drivers License will be valid. You can get those at RACV/RACQ or your states equivalent. We arrived with both and the car rental company wouldnt accept my Aussie License but would accept the International License and for DH they accepted the Aussie and not the International!!! OID.

Oh sandfly, please dont get me wrong, I think that anyone who can foster a dog is an amazing person and I hope my posts didnt come across wrong, it wasnt my intention. I couldnt foster a pup because I couldnt bear to see it leave and I would be so picky about who would end up with the dog that I would probably cross examine them and want to see where they live and their bank accounts! Unfortunately I had such a bad experience when I was looking to adopt another dog as it was all about the money and not doing the right thing for the dog. I do hope that you find a family for life for your foster dog and someone who will cherish her.

Hi littleone, What I was trying to say was, I am supposed to ask for vaccination costs (which is pretty standard across the various rehoming organisations) but don't think I can as I can't find the receipt. Of course the person would get the vaccination book, and the municipality tag, (and her favourite toys, and her blanket......) However immediately after replying to 'mary Smith' I had a message from EW saying 'advert not accepted, blah blah' which seems to be on the basis that the dog isn't 'free'. So now I think mary Smith was not a genuine enquiry - but I also don't think the not accepting is fair :( are you saying Mary Smith was someone from EW admin ?? My "mary smith" was a lady who advertised on EW, but not admin and had nothing to do with EW other than as a member. I would have been prepared to pay the costs of the vaccinations but not the cost to purchase the dog, which was ridiculous it was over AED 10k, and she was apparently moving abroad and desperate to "rehome". In the end I think it was more that the puppy grew up and she couldnt handle or train the dog. It was nearly 2 and not toilet trained didnt interact well with other dogs or people. We lived in the same complex and I knew the dog. I guess I am also extremely biased when it comes to dogs as I would NEVER let my boy go, even when we moved to Dubai I said to my husband if the dog cant come we arent going. If we move home, he comes with us and we have a "plan b" if anything ever happens here that would result in expats being evacuated and we wont be leaving with assistance of our government. Dogs arent for life, not just christmas or birthdays or until they become big. Really annoys me that many people here abandon dogs once they cant control them or they grow up.

Hi Sandfly, I see where you are coming from and also the other view. For me personally if anyone is looking for reimbursement of vaccination costs I would need to see the proof of the vaccinations and also costs, ie: a vet bill or the vaccination card for the dog. I had looked at adopting a dog from someone in Dubai to be a buddy for my boy and part of our family but when she told me she wanted XYZ Dirhams I was furious and queried why she put an ad on EW that said "free to a good home". If I was in your position I would interview "mary Smith" and see how she interacts with the dog, arrange it at a mutually convenient place and if she deserves to be the pup's carer/parent/owner. Or maybe "mary" is just a tight ar$e!

the report in the paper said all 3 were loaded with oil... Boat 3 was a shell, there was no cabin and was being worked on. Boat 1 most definitely loaded with something because it was on fire for ages and was the last one to be put out, it was the one that had the explosion onboard. Boat 2, quite possibly. It made for an entertaining morning though! Just thankful that the reports were that no one was injured but someones livelihood has been destroyed, its rather sad.

It is under control but the fire is still burning on the first boat. Boat 2 and 3 are essentially out, although they are smouldering they are no longer out of control and had been contained earlier this morning. Boat 1 has been beached and the authorities are still dousing it, there have been rumours that there was either diesel or very flammable cargo onboard. Its been interesting watching it from work!

My car is imported from the US through a reputable dealership in Dubai and the only issue that I have is that I cant pick up certain radio stations. I know my car was from a hot climate in the US because my Sat Nav is for that location and I am not willing to pay the money to have it updated for Dubai, but that is irrelevant here as the road changes on a whim and everyone sends a map anyway! I love my car and have had some mechanical issues but that is more to do with the age. My AC works on artic settings for the summer and now that I find anything below 22 degrees freezing I use the heat warmer as well, what a bonus! DH is going to import a car from the US but the purpose is to send it back to our home country when we eventually leave, we will have to change from left hand to right hand drive and we are aware of the challenges we will face. Its his dream car and ridiculously expensive at home, he can drive it here for a couple of years and then bring it in the container with us!

Two boats on fire, a third about to be engulfed, very intense and there have been explosions from what we can only assume is fuel. Traffic on the bridge either way is congested due to rubber neckers, please avoid.
